Disclaimer: I DO NOT own MLP: FIM. I only own Kaleb.

Chapter 27: Nightmare Night

In Ponyville, everyone and their mother was super excited about the night that was going to happen. Because this was not just any night, this was the night where ponies would put on costumes and go door to door for sweets and also play pranks. This night was called "Nightmare Night". There were ponies buying decorations, candy, and costumes for the foals.

Meanwhile in a field somewhere, Kaleb was trying to run without using his super speed with Rainbow Dash and Gilda flying on each side of him cheering him on. The only problem was he was getting pretty tired and breathing heavily. But then again, he did mention that he wanted to get in shape. He had been running for an hour.

"C'mon, wolf boy!" Gilda said, "Only three more laps to go!"

Kaleb tried his best to keep running, but it was no use. He dropped to his hands and knees, trying to catch his breath. He felt a tap on his shoulder and looked up to Rainbow holding out a water bottle to him.

"Here, buddy. Have some water." She said.

He accepted the offer and took a swig before standing up. He then noticed that Gilda had a timer.

"One hour and thirty-two minutes; that has to be some kind of record. Good job." She told him.

pant* *pant* *pant* "Was it really though?" Asked Kaleb.

"Kinda sounds like it to me." Replied Rainbow.

"Some record. I only held out for one hour. I was hoping I would hold out for more than that."

"Don't worry, KC. You'll get there one day. It just takes hard work and perseverance!" Gilda told him.

The boy smiled a little.

"Thanks, Gilda."

"Hey, that's what friends are for."

Suddenly, they heard growling. They looked around to see what it was until Kaleb chuckled a little and was had his hands over his stomach.

"Sorry, girls. I didn't think I'd be that hungry." He said.

The trio heard a cheery sing-songy voice next to them.

"I just heard someone's tummy grumbling." It said.

They turned to see the happy-go-lucky face of Pinkie Pie.

"Oh, hey, Pinkie. How goes it?" Kaleb asked.

"I'm doing fine, thanks for asking. However, I couldn't help but notice your belly growling. Which implies that you're hungry. Which is exactly why I thought maybe the four of us can go eat lunch somewhere. Somewhere like... The Hayburger." Said Pinkie.

Kaleb raised an eyebrow in confusion.

"The... Hayburger? What's that?" He asked.

"Only the best fast food place in all of Ponyville. And believe me, dude, you have not lived until you've had something from there." Said Rainbow.

"Really?"

"Really really."

Kaleb's face brightened a bit.

"Well, in that case, let's go." He said.

"Goody! Because they have this new Nightmare Night themed meal that you might wanna try." Said Pinkie.

The pink pony turned around.

"Follow me."

Kaleb and his friends started walking to The Hayburger. A minute later, they arrived. The place was magenta and brown with big windows on each side of it. Even the door had glass. It also had roof made of straw and a teal and yellow sign with a picture of a burger and a drink on it. When Kaleb saw it, his jaw dropped.

"Well, what do you think?" Pinkie asked him.

"Holy moly." Kaleb replied, "This actually looks... pretty interesting."

Pinkie laughed a little.

"Oh, you ain't seen nothing yet. This place has a variety of hayburgers, grassburgers, oatburgers, and different types of fries of your choice. Even fish fillet sandwiches." She told him.

"Wow. Now I'm REALLY hungry!" He joyfully shouted.

"Then let's go in." Said Gilda.

And just like that, the four friends walked into the restaurant. As soon as they went in, the aroma of the place hit Kaleb's nose like a ton of lead. He smelled all of the good and delicious food being made.

"MmMM! Man, that smells good. I can hardly wait." Kaleb said.

Pinkie stopped at a table with four chairs and gestured for her friends to sit.

"Have a seat please."

The others did so. Pinkie started to walk away.

"I'll be right back." She said in a sing-songy tone.

When she left, Kaleb, Rainbow, and Gilda started talking to each other.

"You excited, Kaleb?" Gilda asked.

"Boy, am I. I said it once, and I'll say it again; I can hardly wait. I wonder what we're gonna get." Said Kaleb.

"And she said there was a Nightmare Night themed meal. I wonder what that is." Rainbow said as she put a hoof on her chin.

"Wait a minute. Nightmare Night? What's that?"

"You don't know what Nightmare Night is?" Rainbow asked.

"No I don't actually."

"Nightmare Night is possibly one of the best and I mean THE best Equestrian holiday where foals dress up in costumes and go out and either get candy or cause mischief. Well, mostly get candy."

"Oh, so it's kinda like Halloween but for ponies."

Rainbow and Gilda were confused.

"Hallow-what?" Gilda asked.

"Halloween. It's like Nightmare Night but for humans. It's also where people get candy and cause mischief. And the best part, the best part was on TV there's a marathon of a variety of horror movies. Including slasher movies." Said Kaleb.

"You mean the horror movies with all the guts and gore?" Asked Rainbow.

Kaleb nodded. Gilda chuckled.

"I gotta say, wolf boy; with a taste in movies like that, you're even more hardcore than I thought." She said.

"Hey, I'm not trying to be hardcore. I was just letting you know what movies I like during the spooky season." Said Kaleb.

Rainbow looked to her left.

"Hey, here's comes Pinkie." She told her friends.

She was right. The friendly pink pony arrived at their table carrying a tray with four burgers, four boxes of orange hay-fries, and four shakes. Two strawberry, one vanilla, and one chocolate.

"Told ya I'd be back."

She set the tray down. Kaleb opened his burger box first. When he did, he saw the burger had blood red buns. When he looked at the contents, he saw orange sauce, grilled hay, pepper jack cheese, spicy pickles, and jalapenos. The burger looked good, but what was with all the spicy stuff in it? He heard Pinkie clear her throat. The trio turned to her.

"Guys, remember when I said that this place had a Nightmare Night themed meal?" She asked them.

They nodded and she snickered.

"Well... This is it. The Hayburger's very own Super Duper Spicy Hayburger Meal! Complete with red hot spicy buns, habanero sauce, grilled hay with extra spice, pepper jack cheese, spicy pickles, and last but not least, jalapenos! This meal is said to be so spicy, ponies who have ate it were running for the bathroom for a few days. It's also said to set other mouths ablaze for those who can't handle their spice." She said.

Kaleb got a sly look.

"Well, you've given this meal to the right person. Because while I don't want to brag, I can pretty much handle my spice. I'll admit when I was a kid, I couldn't handle it at first, but as I grew up, I was a little immune to it." He said.

"Huh. That's nothing."

They turned to Gilda.

"I beat both Greta and Grandpa Gruff in a ghost pepper eating contest a few years ago. And us griffons, like dragons, can handle our spice." She boasted.

"You can handle ghost peppers?!" Kaleb asked, shocked.

"In my sleep."

"I can handle my spice too."

They turned to Rainbow.

"How so?" Gilda asked.

"During Nightmare Night, I challenged Applejack to a contest where we each had to eat a red hot chili pepper and bean burrito without drinking milk for a couple minutes." She said.

"How did that go?" Kaleb asked.

Rainbow chuckled a little.

"Heh. Needless to say, AJ ended up not being able to handle it. So she ended up drinking her milk first. And I was the spice-handling winner." She finished.

Pinkie cleard her thoat and the trio turned to her. She had a determined look.

"And that is exactly why we're here today." She said, "We're gonna make this a little competition. Here's how it's going to work; each of us are going to try to eat this really spicy meal without drinking our milkshakes. The shakes have to go last. Whoever can handle their spice and eat their food without drinking their shake is the winner!"

"Ha! This'll be a piece of cake. I bet you I can out-spice all of you." Rainbow said, determined.

"Huh. If you think you're gonna win this, then think again, Dash. Like I said, us griffons can handle our spice. I'm obviously gonna win. No questions." Said Gilda.

"I wouldn't be so sure. You're looking at the guy who can handle eating jalapenos. So, I don't see why this should be any different. You're looking at the king of spice. I'm positive I can out-spice all three of you any day of the week. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday." Said Kaleb who was also determined.

Pinkie snickered a little.

"This should be fun." She said mischievously.

The four friends looked at each other, then at their food. Determined to see who would be the spice handling champion.

"Everyone ready?" Pinkie asked.

Kaleb, Gilda, and Rainbow said "Yeah!" in unison.

"Three... Two... One... GO!!!!"

In an instant, the four friends started eating their food at a moderately fast pace. It didn't take long for each of them to start feeling the effects of the spicy food. Pinkie was handling it at first, but it wasn't long until she started drinking her shake. Later, Gilda was the next to cave. The only two left were Kaleb and Rainbow. Kaleb almost ate all of his food and was about to drink his shake halfway through until heard glanced at Rainbow. When he did, he saw that Rainbow's food was all gone and so was her shake. All that was left was her satisfied face and her wiping her mouth. Finally, she burped and rubbed her full belly. Kaleb was surprised. So were the other three friends.

"That is the sign that the belly is full." Said the stuffed pegasus.

"But how did you... how did..." Kaleb stuttered.

"How did you mange to eat all that food without either throwing up or caving? You didn't cheat did you?" Gilda asked half surprised and half skeptical.

Rainbow shook her head.

"Nope. I just took it. I'll admit it was a bit hard, but I used my determination and my strong stomach to win. I know you can say you can handle your spice, Gilda, and you did a great job halfway through. You nearly ate all of your food but then you ended up drinking your shake." She told her.

"I can handle my spice. It was just that... my shake was a strawberry one. You know how much I love strawberries." Gilda said, pouting a little.

Kaleb chuckled.

"Yeah. Whatever, Gilda."

Rainbow turned to him.

"And Kaleb, you and Pinkie did a good job too. You most of all. You nearly beat me. You can really handle your spice." She told him.

"Told ya."

"You're not so bad yourself, Dashie." Said Pinkie.

Rainbow then turned to her.

"I have to say, we really had ourselves on the edge of our seats. I mean, I'm surprised I'm not rushing to the mare's bathroom yet." Pinkie said.

"Yeah. It's a miracle." Said Kaleb.

"Yeah well, there will be a day where I'll prove to you that I can out-spice you, Dash. And I await that day." Gilda said to her friend, determined.

"Heh heh. We'll see." Said Rainbow, smugly.

The friends then heard a gurgling sound. It didn't take them long to find out it was coming from Rainbow who had her hooves over her belly with a worried look.

"Uh oh."

The pegasus frantically looked around until she saw the bathrooms. She turned to her friends with a sheepish look.

"Guys... I'll be right back." She told them.

And just like that, Rainbow quickly ran to the two bathrooms. When she tried to go into one, she accidentally bumped into the door. She looked at the sign and chuckled because she was standing in front of the stallion's bathroom.

"Oh! That's the guy's. Heh heh."

She then rushed to the other door and went in. Gilda chuckled.

"She may be able to handle spice, but not that much." She said.

Saying that caused Kaleb and Pinkie to laugh. Kaleb looked at Pinkie.

"Hey, Pinkie."

"Yeah?"

"You said that the meal was so spicy that ponies who have eaten it ended up running to the bathroom for a few days. How many days exactly?" He asked.

Pinkie snickered a little.

"Oh, nothing much. Just... six days." She replied.

Kaleb chuckled.

"Oh gosh. She's gonna have to take some Imodium for a while." He said.

They heard hoofsteps coming towards their table. They turned to see Rainbow walking back to the table with a relieved look. She sat down and took a deep breath.

"Phew! That was a close one. Also, I may not wanna go in there for a few minutes if I were you." She told her friends.

"That bad, huh?" Asked Gilda.

Rainbow nodded.

"Now how was your food, Dash?" Kaleb asked.

"Delicious... but now my stomach's worst enemy." Rainbow replied.

They all laughed.

...

That night, Nightmare Night began. Ponies of all kinds were dressed in costumes and getting/handing out candy. At Rainbow's cloud house, the oven timer was ticking. Finally, it dinged. Rainbow opened the oven door with her hoof and got a whiff of the freshly baked Nightmare Night cookies. She took the cookies out. They had pictures of werewolves, bats, and ghosts on them.

"Well, Rainbow, you did really well for your first time. Thank you, Pinkie Pie." She said to herself.

She heard someone laugh a little. She looked up to see Gilda who was dressed up as the Bride of Griffonstein.

"Talkin' to yourself again, are we?" She asked, slyly.

Rainbow was a little annoyed.

"What? N-No, I wasn't talking to myself. I was just... trying to get into the Nightmare Night mood. That, and I'm looking forward to eating a cookie at the party." She said, defensively.

"Whatever, Dash. You were totally talking to yourself. I'm looking forward to eating one of those cookies too." Said Gilda.

When Rainbow walked towards her, they got a look at their costumes.

"Whaddya think, G? Do I make a good wolf or what?"

"Looks cool. Just like I make a good Bride of Griffonstein. Although, the wig was kinda expensive. But it was worth it."

The duo looked towards the stairs for a few seconds and then back to each other.

"So, is Kaleb ready yet?" Rainbow asked.

"I don't know. Want me to go check?"

"I'll go check."

Rainbow flew up the stairs. When she got to the top, she flew to the bathroom. She knocked on the door.

"Hey, Kaleb. You almost ready?" She asked.

"Just about, Rainbow. I gotta put on the finishing touches first." Said Kaleb.

Rainbow nodded.

"Okay, but don't take too long."

"I won't."

Rainbow flew downstairs and landed in front of Gilda when they heard the bathroom door open and shut. They turned towards the stairs to see Kaleb walking down in his costume. He was wearing a green long sleeved dress shirt and black shorts with a hole for his tail (obviously made by Rarity). He also had brown makeup painted on his legs, feet, hands, and face along with black nail polish on his toenails and fingernails. His nose was black as well. And he was wearing fake pointy ears on his ears.

"What do you think, girls?" He asked.

"You look like a werewolf." Said Rainbow.

"Ah, but not just any werewolf. I am none other than one of the greatest classic monsters of all time. I am none other than the original werewolf of cinema. I am... THE WOLFMAN!!!! AWOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" He cried.

He then looked down at his tail.

"Although, I don't remember him having a brown bushy wolf tail."

Rainbow and Gilda laughed.

"So, what're ya gonna do now? Are you gonna have us for dinner?" Rainbow asked, jokingly.

"Yeah. Are you gonna make us your evening meal?" Asked Gilda, who was also joking.

Kaleb put a hand on his chin.

Hmm... Tempting... but I don't think so. I like you girls too much." He said.

The comment caused the trio to laugh. Suddenly, they heard a knock at the door. The turned to the door and walked towards it. Rainbow was the first to open the door. When she did, she saw her friends, Scootaloo, and a few other familiar faces all dressed up in costumes.

Twilight and Spike were dressed as vampires, Starlight was dressed as a really scary clown, Discord was dressed as a dead tree, Fluttershy was dressed as a red rose, Rarity was dressed as a mad scientist, Applejack was dressed as a tiger, and Pinkie was covered almost head to hoof in cotton candy complete with a red and white cone on her head.

The Cutie Mark Crusaders were ready too. Applebloom was a bee, Scootaloo was a wolf puppy, and Sweetie Belle was some kind of half pony half fish creature.

The others were Derpy, Bon Bon, Lyra, Dr. Whooves, Berry Punch, Vinyl Scratch, Octavia, and Big Mac. They were in costumes as well.

"Good evening, Rainbow Dash." Twilight and Spike said in unison with fake Hungarian accents.

Rainbow giggled.

"Hi, everypony. Happy Nightmare Night! What's up?" She asked.

Before she knew it, Pinkie handed out three envelopes that were a little covered in cotton candy. Rainbow, Kaleb, and Gilda took them and opened them up. It turned out that they were party invitations to a Nightmare Night party at Sweet Apple Acres.

"A Nightmare Night party at Sweet Apple Acres? Cool beans!" Gilda said with excitement.

"Your damn right, it's cool beans." Said Pinkie.

The pink party pony heard Applejack clear her throat and turned to see her glaring at her while covering her little sister's ears.

"Pinkie Pie, language." She said, "May I remind you that there are foals present? We don't want any of them learning 'new words' if you get my drift."

"Oh, right. Sorry, Applejack." Pinkie said, feeling a little guilty.

"So, what are you supposed to be, Pinks? Not to be rude, but it looks like you had a little problem with a cotton candy machine." Said Gilda.

Pinkie did a scary pose.

"Mwahahahaha! I am The Cotton Candy Glob! Deadly but delicious." She said.

As she said that, she took off a small piece of her costume and ate it. The trio looked down at the kids and as soon as they saw Scootaloo in her wolf costume, Rainbow was surprised. She smiled.

"What is it, Rainbow Dash?" The filly asked.

"We match." Said Rainbow.

Scootaloo looked at her costume then at Rainbow's and laughed a little.

"Oh. We do, don't we?"

Kaleb chuckled.

"Bet you didn't know you two would have matching costumes... mother wolf." He said, playfully.

"Mother wolf?" Rainbow asked, now confused.

"Well, think about it." Kaleb said, "You protect Scootaloo like a mother wolf would protect her pup because you love her very much. So, in a way, in my opinion, you're like a mother wolf and she's like a pup. That, and I thought the nickname would be kind of cute."

Rainbow thought about it for a second.

"Hmm. Eh, I guess you're right. And the nickname is kinda cute. However, how did you know that I protect Scootaloo?"

"Oh, that's easy. She told me. She also told me that she loves having you as a big sister and she wouldn't have it any other way."

The older pegasus looked at the little foal who had a happy smile on her face. Rainbow smiled back.

"Thank you very much, Scoot. That was very sweet." She said.

"Hey, anything for my big sister." Said Scootaloo.

Suddenly, they all heard Pinkie gasp.

gasp* Look at the time! We gotta get going or Nightmare Night's gonna be gone." She said.

Everyone except Rainbow started following Pinkie. When Kaleb noticed that, he stopped and turned to her.

"You coming, Dash?" He asked her.

"Oh. I will. Just gotta get these cookies in a container for the party. Gotta show of my awesome new baking skills that Pinkie taught me." She said.

Kaleb laughed a little.

"Somehow I knew you'd say that." He told her.

He looked towards the group following Pinkie, then back to the pegasus.

"Well... see you at the party, Rainbow." He said.

"See you soon, Kaleb." Said Rainbow.

Kaleb turned and followed the others while Rainbow went back inside and shut the door. A few seconds later, she manged to find a square plastic container to put the cookies in. When she did so, she took one cookie and was about to eat it when she remembered something.

She remembered when she played a lot of pranks on everyone in Ponyville and how they got back at her by scaring her with a zombie apocalypse prank using cookies. She thought it was a little funny at first, but right now she was thinking about how she could get back at them. Without being mean of course. Then she got an idea.

"Well, it is Nightmare Night after all." She thought, "Maybe I can come up with a harmless but scary prank just for the heck of it. Plus, it would be kinda nice to get even."

Thinking about that, she got a mischievous, creepy, ear to ear grin.

Author's Note: Dun dun dun! It looks like Rainbow is going to have to put her prankster brain to use if she wants this be a great prank. I think it would be nice for her to get even too considering how much I dislike the episode the chapter was referencing. Anyway, I hope you liked the new chapter. Forgive me if it was kinda subpar. I'm just a little rusty. I'm just trying to get back in the habit of writing.

Please don't forget to read, review, favorite, follow, and be sure to keep watch for the next chapter. Until next time, see you later, my fellow bronies and pegasisters!
