Author's Notes
I'm back everyone. Been 3 years since I last updated this story. Sorry it took so long to update just lost interest in writing but slowly getting back into it again.
We walk across the Driftveil Bridge as we make our way to Driftveil City. As we walk I turn to Roxie and ask curiously "You going to go see Clay once we get into the city?"
Roxie shook her head and told me "Nah. I'll just go see that old cowboy when you go challenge him or something. If he's not going to tell me why or when he want's me here he can wait".
"Is needing to be in Driftveil why you decided to travel with Chase?" Cameron asked curiously.
Roxie chuckled then answer "No. Wanted to travel with him to get to know him better".
Cameron nodded but didn't answer. The three of us entered the city and started looking for the Pokémon Centre. As we were walking a voice with a southern drawl yelled out "Where the hell have ya been damn varmit!!".
The three of us turn around and see a man in a cowboy leathers, boots and hat walking towards us. He walks up to Roxie and says angrily "Where the hell have you been Roxie? I told you to be here days ago".
Roxie looked at him angrily. I saw the angry look on her face so I grabbed Cameron by the shoulder and backed away slowly knowing she was probably going to get very loud. She started to poke him in the chest while saying irritably "No you didn't Clay you stupid cowboy. You just told me to and I quote 'Get yar butt over here Roxie', then hung up".
"No I didn't. I told you to get over here quickly," Clay said stubbornly.
"You told me to get over me. You didn't say when or why I had to be here. Just thatI had to be over here".
"No. I know I told you to come to Driftveil and to bring your bandmates and gear and to get here quickly".
"No… You…Didn't…You…Stupid…Cowboy!", Roxie screamed angrily in his face as she poked him in the chest with each word.
Clay stood back a few paces cowed a little and then admitted sheepishly "Ok, maybe I didn't tell ya".
Roxie calmed a little at Clay's admission. She then asked anger still in her voice "Ok, so what did you want me and my band for?".
"Follow me and I'll show you," Clay told us before turning around and heading to the Driftveil Waterfront. We follow along wondering where he was taking us. Eventually we arrived at a large enclosed stadium. He then gestures to the three of us inside. We follow him inside as he guides us to the centre of the stadium which has a large battlefield on it. "This is location of the Driftveil Tournament where the best trainers will battle," Clay told us in a grandiose fashion.
The three of us look around in awe, amazed at what we saw. "This place is huge. It's amazing," Cameron says impressed while I just nod in agreement.
"Very impressive Clay. When you always have been a fan of the go big or go home saying," Roxie says impressed. Clay just humphed as if to say of course. Roxie then asks "I'm assuming this is why you want me and my band here. So we can play for the opening tournament?"
Clay nods and answers "Of course I do Roxie. Live music will be the best choice I feel for the first tournament".
"So when are you planning to have this tournament?"
"Tomorrow".
"TOMORROW?!" Roxie screeches in anger before unleashing a very explicative torrent of insults upon Clay who backs away slowly. Once her tirade was over she said in a voice, ,while calmer, still seethed with anger "That won't be happening. No way I can get my bandmates and the gear here in time".
"I have all the gear you need including a drumset," Clay says in a somewhat cowed tone.
"Oh you do do you that's a great help but," Roxie says sarcastically before yelling "THAT DOESN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF MY BANDMATES GETTING HERE IN TIME".
Clay steps back a pace and then gestures to Cameron and I and asks confused "I thought they were your bandmates?"
"No they're not. They're just friends. Oh and also two of your next challengers,"she then turned to us and asks in a very sarcastic manner "Unless either of you can play the drums".
"I can play then drums," Cameron chimed in. Clay and Roxie look at him in surprise.
"You…you can?" Roxie can stammers in surprise. Her manner becomes thoughtful and muses aloud "If he plays well enough I could make it work,". She then turns to Clay and asks "You said you had a drumset?"
Clay nods and answers "I'll have it brought and set up where I want you playing". He makes a quick call and then guides us to the area he wants to play. He then takes us an spot halfway up the stands that I had no idea was there. Clay then explains that it's a spot can't be seen by people and it's like that so that if and when he wants a band playing for the tournaments they don't distract from the battles but the band can still see the battles while they play. The drumset then arrives shortly and is set up. Roxie gestures to Cameron who gets set up. Once he's set up and comfortable Roxie pulls off her guitar and starts to strum a few notes.
"Alright Cameron if you can follow me," She tells him before strumming a tune on her guitar. Cameron follows her lead and starts playing as well. The two of them play for a few minutes before Roxie stops and signals Cameron to stop too.
"How'd I do Roxie?" Cameron asks curiously.
Roxie thinks for a moment before answering "You pass my friend," she then turns to me and adds "your joining in to Chase. You'll be lead vocalist".
"W-w-w-w-what? Why me?" I stammer out in surprise.
"You have a good voice and we harmonise well. Don't worry I'll join in on the chorus. Plus I think you can handle it," Roxie tells me with a smile. She then turns to Clay and tells him "Get everything set up. We'll spend the day practicing here and problem just crash here for the night".
"Alright Roxie. That's fine by me. I'll leave the three of you too it then," Clay says with a smile. He then walks off and making calls as he does.
Roxie turns back to Cameron and I and says with a smirk "Alright boys let's get to it".
We spend the rest of the day practicing. Roxie occasionally stops us to point out something we're doing wrong or telling us how she actually wants it. Eventually once night time falls Roxie is happy with how Cameron and I did.
"Well boys, I think you're both ready for tomorrow," she tells us with a big smile on her face. I massage my throat and nod but don't say anything while Cameron grins tiredly. The three of us grab something to eat before crashing for the night.
The next day
I grip the mic stand in front of me and tap it nervously in front of me. I look over at Cameron and see him tapping one of his drum sticks against his arm with the same nervousness as me. We both look over at Roxie and see her standing there, hands on her guitar, and she is cool as cucumber. She gives both of us a reassuring smile. We then hear Clay announce the first battle is about to start. Cameron then starts to lay the beat on the drums with Roxie joining in with her guitar right after him. I take a deep breath and then proceed to start singing.
You know I go hard
At opponents like I'm going to war
You know I go rough
Keep it classic
Start with my Bulbasaur
You know I leave you burning up
Yeah, you can call me Magmar
I'll be taking down your Kadabra
When I send my Houndour
Roxie joins me in sing as I reach the chorus
Oh, Braviary
There I go again
There I go again
Flying back to you
Now I'm getting into your head, your head
Like I'm Mewtwo
My moves super effective, so effective
One hit KO you
Got you stuck under my spell, under my spell
Like a Hypno
Better say your prayers Baby don't you cry
But you're Magikarp has only one more fight
And I got you so scared of my Arcanine
But I'll only stay with you one more fight
Try to tell you NO
But you challenged me when I crossed path
That was your mistake
Now you're gonna suffer my Poliwrath
You be waking up having nightmares about my Dragonite
You be waking up burnt, poisoned, confused, frozen, paralyzed
Oh, Braviary
There I go again
Flying back to you
Now I'm getting into your head, your head
Like I'm Mewtwo
My moves super effective, so effective
One hit KO you
Got you stuck under my spell, under my spell
Like a Hypno
Better say your prayers baby don't you cry
But you're Magikarp has only one more fight
And I got you so scared of my Arcanine
But I'll only stay with you one more fight
Now baby give me one more fight
Now baby give me one more fight
We can hear the crowd who is now even more pumped up from song and the battle. We continue to play through the whole tournament. As we watch the tournament from where we are playing I am amazed by the skill of battles. I saw some trainers were commanding their Pokémon with just hand signals while others were using letters or phrases to command them. The battles were amazing and made want to sing harder. I looked at Roxie and Cameron and saw they felt the same.
Eventually it got to the the final round. As the battle I saw one of them was the old man we'd encountered in Nimbassa City. The other trainer was a young man who seemed around my age but he had strange Pokémon. He team was a blue Ninetails, a rocky Mightyena and a Pokémon that looked like it was wearing a green hood. The battle was fast and intense and as the young man easily defeated the old man. Clay then declared him the winner. The three of us then exited and made it into the lobby before we ran into Clay who looked extremely proud of himself.
"Well that went off extremely well," Clay exclaimed happily.
"Indeed it was those battles were amazing. The level of skill was impressive," Roxie said excitedly.
"I'll be holding them frequently. Though how frequently I don't know".
"Well don't expect me to always be available to play because I want participate in them too. That got me fired up".
"Me too, seeing those battles made me want to get strong enough to match those guys," Cameron chimed in a somewhat heated manner.
"Same here. I'd like to participate too someday when I get stronger. Watching those battles gave me some ideas on how I could," I chimed in.
Clay looked at the two of us before speaking and told us "You two should focus on being able to beat m' gym before thinking about participating in m' tournaments". Before either of us could respond his Xtransceiver starting ringing so he walked off as he answered it.
"I know you two will be that old cowboy easy," Roxie told us with a smile as we walk outside.
Once we walk outside I spot the winner of the tournament so I walk over to him. "Hey, excuse you're the winner of the tournament right?"
He looks at a little surprised but answers "Yeah I am. Names Kukui".
"Chase. Nice to meet you. Your battle skills are amazing. And where are you from? I didn't recognise any of the Pokémon you used except for your Ninetails. But even that confused me since it was blue".
"Thanks. And I'm from the Alola Region. All my Pokémon are from there. Even the Ninetails which is the Alolan variant of it," he tells me.
Before I can ask where Alola is I hear Cameron yelling "Get back here you damn Plasma scum".
I then see Cameron run past me chasing a person in a black and grey suit with Roxie not far behind. I let out a sigh then follow them until we arrive in front of a strange looking ship.
A/N
I hope you all enjoyed that chapter. It was fun to write. As you can guess I'm doing some events out of order since they work better for my story. And you finally know why Clay called Roxie to Driftveil. I feel like that happened in game since you encounter Roxie immediately after completing the tournament. I didn't include all DVT battles since i was like mid 30s from memory and the npcs where like 25. Felt boring to include.
Hopefully the next chapter won't take me over 3 years to do.
And the song I used is One More Fight by Nate Wants To Battle.
