Unexpected Situations

Chapter 3 The Talk

-Regina's POV-

Emma and I appeared outside Gold's shop. My nerves were going wild. I exhaled, and Emma scratched my back.

"It's going to be okay. We're here for answers."

"I know that. What if he tells me something I'm not ready to hear?"

"Look at me." I looked at her, and she continued, "I told you in the hospital, and I will tell you again. I'm here for you no matter what happens."

I closed my eyes, smiled, and opened them to gaze into those beautiful green eyes. "Thank you, Emma, for everything you've done for me. I appreciate it more than you ever know."

I embraced her and immediately felt our magic connect, making me feel better instantly.

"You know, when you hug me like this, it makes me feel like myself again."

"I'll make a mental note of that."

We shared a laugh, then broke the embrace. She still had her hand in mine as I turned to face the door.

"Well, here we go."

I grabbed the doorknob, turned it, and walked inside with Emma following me. She briefly let go of my hand and placed it on my back. Gold walked in from the back, polishing a candelabra.

"Allow me to be the first to congratulate you, Madam Mayor. You're expecting a wee one soon."

"That's why I'm here."

"Oh, I know that, dearie. Swan, I forgot. Congratulations to you as well. You and Regina will make great parents to this little one."

"What?" Emma and I both asked then Gold turned to look at us. "Think back—both of you. Exactly two months ago, I was dying, and the darkness was taken from me to save my life. I was in a coma. The sorcerer's hat couldn't contain the darkness; therefore, it went to find a new host. It found you, Regina. Emma, you had possession of my dagger. You said something before you stuck the dagger into the swirling dark magic. At the same time, Regina was thinking about something. I am going to ask you both a question. Regina, what were you thinking about?"

I thought for a while, but it all came flooding back. "I was thinking of what I would lose if I became the Dark One; Henry, Emma, relationships that I restored, Robin, a chance of possibly finding the anecdote to the potion I took that prevented me from having a baby…"

There it was.

"Emma, what did you say?"

"I said that she fought too hard. I looked down at the dagger and all around to see if anyone would do anything to save her before I did. Since no one did, I stepped up and promised to give her the happy ending she deserved. That was when I stuck the dagger in."

Oh, Emma. Damn it, I won't cry in front of Gold!

"When Regina thought about reversing the potion so she could have a babe, you promised her a happy ending and stuck the dagger in at that moment. Did either of you feel anything at that moment? A shock? A warm, tingling sensation?"

Emma was the first one to say something. "I felt the shock."

"I felt both. I felt the shock and the warm, tingling sensation."

"That was the moment of conception."

Emma and I were speechless. I tried to find something to say to Emma or ask Gold, but nothing could originate. Gold walked up to us from behind the counter.

"May I?" He pointed to my stomach. Emma got protective and asked, "What in the hell are you doing?"

"Easy, momma bear. I'm only going to see if the babe has magic."

He reached to touch my stomach, but a golden light shield formed. He retracted his hand so fast, and I saw fear in his eyes. For the first time, I got to see Rumplestiltskin afraid of something. Emma and I looked at each other and noticed how quickly Gold reacted.

"That's one powerful babe you have."

Emma was the first one to say something. "Just how powerful are we talking?"

He turned to look at us and said, "Your babe has gold magic. This magic is more powerful than light and dark. It's so powerful that it destroys any dark entity in existence."

"How did the baby get this magic? Emma and I don't have this magic."

Gold returned behind his counter and looked in deep thought. "The gold magic was formed when your magics combined. I know that gold magic existed, but I don't know much about it. No one ever used it before, so I don't know how it originated. Allow me to research, and Regina, you can do the same. Whoever finds anything, we let each other know."

We nodded, and I said, "Thank you for all your help."

Emma and I turned to walk out then Gold said, "Congratulations to you both."

We turned around, smiled at him, and said, "Thank you."

I opened the door, and we walked out.

-Emma's POV-

Oh shit! I'm the one that got Regina pregnant. What the hell is she thinking right now? The baby that we both looked at on the ultrasound was our baby! Holy crap, on a cracker!

"Emma." I looked at Regina, and she said, "We need to go fill my nausea medicine."

I nodded and added, "You also need some prenatal vitamins. Look, I'm more than positive you're mad at me…"

"Mad at you? For what?"

I exhaled and dropped my voice low to where no one could hear. "I know you're mad that I got you pregnant and not Robin."

She looked around and used her magic to whisk us away to her house. We appeared in her living room. She brought me to the couch, and we sat down. She took my hands and exhaled.

"I want you to listen to me. I am not mad at you at all. Emma, you gave me a gift. I am more in shock than I am mad at you. Robin was very special to me as Killian was to you. Now that they're both gone, you and I have a second chance at being a team. We are both Henry's mother, and now," she placed one of my hands on her stomach, "now, we have this little one."

I smiled and joked, "So, you're not ready to fry my ass to a crisp?"

We laughed, and she replied, "No, not yet. Ask me when it's time to deliver this baby in seven months."

I laughed, and I said, "I want to try something. I will let go of you, but I want to see if I can somehow use my magic to help you when I am not around."

Regina conjured a trash can for precaution. I let go of her hands, stood up, and walked toward the stairs. I noticed how pale she was and concentrated on sending my magic toward her.

"Emma, whatever you're doing, it's helping me a little."

That gave me hope. I continued to concentrate on sending more to her. I was losing control, so I walked back to the sofa. I took her hand in mine, and I broke concentration.

"I'm so sorry."

I closed my eyes and shook my head. "No, I'm sorry. I am the one that got you into this predicament…"

"Stop apologizing. I know this wasn't done on purpose. You have done nothing but help me since my first symptom showed up. You are the only one that's ever stepped up to face me at my worse. I was alone for a very long time until you had Henry. I still felt alone when it was just me and Henry. You came to StoryBrooke, and everything changed. You became my dearest friend, and now I'm not alone. I have you that I trust with my life. I'm glad that it's you that I get to experience this adventure with and not someone that said one thing, but actions said something completely different."

I smiled. "I'm glad we had this talk. I feel much better."

"Me too. Let's go to the pharmacy to fill that prescription and get those vitamins."

We got up and walked out to the car.

-Regina's POV-

We arrived at the pharmacy, and Emma began concentrating on sending her magic to me so we could act normal in public. I handed the Pharmacy Tech my prescription and returned to Emma to look at prenatal vitamins. When we went down the aisle with the vitamins, Emma took my hand and took some deep breaths.

"Shit! That was hard."

"I know, but we must keep up appearances until I'm ready to announce that I'm pregnant."

"We need to find one with 1000 mg of folic acid."

We both looked around, and I saw one with 900 mg of folic acid and another vitamin that helps brain and bone growth with 100 mg of folic acid in the same box.

"What about this one?"

I showed Emma the box, and she nodded. "That's a good one. Let's get that one."

"You know what else we need to do."

"What?"

"We need to tell Henry."

We looked at each other then I heard my name getting called. Emma dropped my hand, and I immediately felt her magic on me. I got to the counter, and the pharmacy tech handed me my medicine; then, I placed the vitamins on the counter.

"Madam Mayor, you're pregnant? Congratulations!"

"Thank you, Tina. I wanted to wait until I was ready to say something."

She placed a hand over her mouth, and I waved. "Don't worry about it. Just check me out, and don't mention a word to anyone until I make the announcement."

She checked us out, and we walked out to the car. After we got into the car, Emma took hold of my hand and took a deep breath.

"I thought she never shut up!"

I laughed and squeezed her hand. Our hands formed a golden glow.

"Emma, what is this?"

She looked at our hands, then looked at me. "We need to look through your books to find out what this gold magic is and what it can do, fast!
