Interval Event #4: Kirara
"Hey, Kirara," Kururugi inquired, his voice carrying a tinge of curiosity, "Are you by yourself? Where's Sango?" The response he received was a melodious meow from the feline. Kururugi's gaze shifted to a small offering of dried fish. "Hey, Kirara, do you want some dried fish?" he continued, his tone playful, "Where are you going?" The question hung in the air as Kirara dashed away, The Kururugi boy following behind.
Kirara led Michiru to a clearing, where Sango was standing there lost in thought. The tranquility was momentarily interrupted by the arrival of the boy and the nekomata.
"I was looking for you, Kirara," Sango's voice carried a blend of relief and tenderness.
"Sango!" The Kururugi boy exclaimed, a mixture of emotions in his tone. As Sango approached Kirara, her attention shifted to the one who had been tending to her cherished companion.
"What? Oh, thanks for feeding Kirara," Sango's gratitude was evident in her voice, "You've made Kirara very happy, I can tell." Michiru's modesty came through in his response, downplaying his actions. "Oh, it wasn't much. But, Kirara always knows where you are, doesn't she?" His words were imbued with a quiet admiration for the bond they shared.
"Yes. She's family," Sango's voice held a depth of emotion, her words spoken softly, "Kirara and Kohaku are the only family I have left." Sango explained holding the two tailed cat in her arms, Michiru nodded empathetically, his understanding reflected in his eyes. The mere mention of Kohaku invoked an unspoken pain in Sango.
"Kohaku, the one that Naraku..." Michiru's voice trailed off, an acknowledgment of the unspeakable. Sango's response was a solemn nod, "Yes, he's my only brother." The weight of her words hung heavy in the air, as Michiru remembered the complexity of their shared history between the two siblings.
A moment of silence followed, Sango's attempt to console Michiru's concern was gentle yet unwavering, "You don't have to look so sad. One day I will get him back." She said trying to reassure not only him, but herself as well, The Kururugi boy's eyes met hers, a mix of hope and determination.
"Yes," The Kururugi boy murmured, the agreement a testament to his belief in her strength and resilience. Sango's gaze returned to Kirara, her voice softer, "Kirara likes you. I've never seen her like anyone other than Kohaku and I." A sense of inclusion filled Kururugi's heart, his curiosity piqued by the unspoken promise within her words. "I think we will get along fine," Sango's words resonated with a quiet optimism. The modern boy's brows furrowed in a mix of curiosity and intrigue, his response echoing his wonder, 'Huh? I wonder what she means?' He thought to himself.
