Enemies of the Heir Beware…
I do not own Harry Potter, that honor goes to JKR, even if she doesn't deserve it…
A recap of what is going on so far…
The Golden Trio plus friends are back from the Battle of the Ministry of Magic. Hermione is going through a change and Dumbledore has noticed. McGonagall is being told the story behind who Hermione is and who her mother was. Snape is on his way back to Hogwarts to help protect Hermione from possible retaliation from Dumbledore. Tom Riddle is distraught after finding out that he does in fact have a child and said child is best friends with his once mortal enemy, who he no longer has to kill since he has fulfilled the prophecy. In this next chapter, we will see Hermione's transformation completed, her friends' reactions, Snape's empathy, McGonagall's mother lion tendences, and our villain Dumbledore's breakdown…
Part 1
The first thing she noticed before her eyes opened was the silence. It was too quiet. The hospital smell filled her nose as she came to. She blinked multiple times to clear the blurriness out. Hermione Granger felt her heartbeat speed up as the room came into focus. The bright white walls seemed to rush towards her. She lets out her breath she was holding before looking around. She was alone. No Harry, no Ron, no healers and no headmaster standing by her beside. Strange, she thought to herself. Pain floods her system as she pushes herself up to a sitting position. Then she noticed the spell bubble next to her bed. It beeped as she finally stopped fidgeting. It was a diagnostic spell that was keeping a record of her blood pressure, her heartbeat, and brain waves. The young witch watches as the numbers go up and down as she starts to calm. The numbers spike momentarily when the doors burst open.
"Good you are awake." Her potions professor says as he crosses the room. Hermione looks at him with confusion.
"Sir, not that it seems to matter at this very moment, but why are you here? Where is Professor McGonagall? Or Dumbledore? Surely, they would have been here."
"You headmaster and head of house are having a meeting as to what to do with you in the light of the incident you children have found yourself in."
"With me?" She asks as her head starts to feel like it is splitting in two. She squints and tenses up. A warmth covers her, she looks to see Snape waving his wand over her. She smiles slightly. The man who has been her teacher, even if he didn't want to be, was a surprise. It didn't seem to be in his job description to take care of children outside of his house, but here he was. Taking care of her. "Sir, I am going to need more information."
"Yes, of course. Miss Granger, let me caution you. Once everything is out in the open, you might not be safe here at Hogwarts much longer."
"Sir?"
"Let me first give you this." Snape says while handing a mirror to the young girl. She looks at him curiously.
"Why do I need a mirror, I think I am well aware of how bad I…" Her words get caught in her throat as she stares back at a stranger in the mirror. "Wha…who…Professor…" She starts to shake; tears fill her eyes.
"Miss. Granger, take a deep breath. In and out. There you go. Now first let me say this…you are not Hermione Granger. I know from the years of teaching you, you do not like beating around the bush as muggles say. So, I am going to be very straightforward with you. You are the daughter of Vera Morozova and Tom Riddle. You were thought to be dead, since your mother died long ago. Your father wanted your mother to abort you due to health complications, so she ran from her life here in England. She was in Russia, hidden due to the hit that was put on her head by Albus Dumbledore. Your headmaster did not go through his usual allies, but rather with the seedy underground so that his Order wouldn't know that he was capable of murder. I do not know what happened to you after your birth, but your mother's body one day showed up outside of Malfoy Manor for the Dark Lord to find. This was before the deaths of James and Lily Potter and the attempted murder of your precious Harry Potter. We suspected that Dumbledore did that to hurt Tom in such a way that he would be forced to start the prophecy of killing Mr. Potter. Not long after that, as you are aware, Voldemort went to Godric's Hollow and the rest is history. The rest of your story you will probably never know the truth unless Dumbledore tries to talk his way out of everything, but let me warn you, he is not as honest as he has lead you to believe."
"You are lying." Harry Potter says from the doorway. Snape and Hermione jerk their heads toward the boy-who-lived. Hermione wipes the tears that had been falling down her face.
"Harry…"
"You weren't kidding about her changing…" The young wizard says as he limps over to her bedside. A flash of red catches Hermione's eye. Ron Weasley stands at the doorway looking down at his feet.
"Ron…come in, please." Hermione says as she holds out her hand. Ron looks up with tears in his eyes. He rushes to his friend's side and wraps his arms around her. Harry watches as the lanky teenager lets all of his fears and emotions out into the crook of her neck. She cries with him, while rubbing soothing circles on his back. Harry sniffles, trying to hold the tears threatening to fall in. He goes to the other side of her bed and puts his hand on the top of her head in a loving way. Hermione lifts her head up, her eyes swollen and red from the tears. Her once honey brown eyes are a bright blue that seemed to pierce into your very soul. Her hair was darker and if possible, more curlier. Her skin was paler, and most of her freckles had disappeared from her face. She seemed smaller than before. Harry looked at her with fear and sadness. She could have died, and it was really all his fault. Now her world is changing because he let Voldemort trick him.
"Professor, does he know who she is?" Harry asks as he wipes his eyes, holding his glasses in one hand. Snape nods before taking a seat on a chair by her bed.
"He knows, and he is worried. He is worried about what your Dumbledore will do now that Hermione's identity is known. He is scared for her and longing to meet her. I know that your headmaster has mentioned that the Dark Lord can't love, but I can reassure you, he can. He loved your mother, to the point that if she wanted, he would have given up his power for her. When he found her body, he went into psychotic break, which led to the deaths of the Potters. I believe that if Vera had been alive and Tom had met his daughter, he wouldn't have gone after Lily and James. At least not at that time. I firmly believe Dumbledore is the cause for all of this, and Miss. Granger, I am honestly worried for your life. I do not see how he will keep you around other than as a prisoner to hold over Tom Riddle's head. He will use you and then more than likely, kill you to push this war forward more."
"That doesn't sound like Dumbledore." Hermione says as she sits at attention. Harry and Ron both nod, keeping surprisingly calm and silent.
"That is what he has led everyone to believe. That he is a saint who has done no harm, but I can promise you, he has. He is the reason why Sirus Black never had a trial. He is the reason for the Potter's death. Why the war is progressing at the rate it is. Before we go any further, let me inform you that there are strict wards up around the infirmary. No one can get in unless I say so. Dumbledore will eventually return, at some point, I need to get Miss. Granger out of here. The malice and hatred I felt coming off your headmaster earlier was sickening. McGonagall felt it too, but she went with him anyways. Hopefully to calm him down and distract him long enough for me to return. It is known that I am a double agent in the Order, but what you lot do not know, and I will swear on my magic to this, I am really a triple agent. I am a Death Eater who will 'spy' on Voldemort for the Order, but then I turn around and spy on the Order for Tom. I am fed information to give to the Order through Tom, and in return I give information that I learn at the meetings to him. I did this because of the broken promise with Dumbledore and myself. He was supposed to protect Lily. He wasn't supposed to let her die. He placed the last nail in her coffin, killing Vera and dumping her body for Tom to find. He was still researching and planning on how he could bypass the prophecy. He didn't want to kill a baby. He isn't one to kill children but like I said that night, he suffered a break."
The teenagers are silent. Hermione is crying again. Ron still wrapped around his friend protectively, speaks out,
"Does my mum and dad know about all of this?"
"From what I can gather, no one other than Dumbledore knows about this. I only know because I am on both sides of the war. Mr. Weasley, if I were you, I would contact your mother and father to let them know of everything that has happened and what I am telling you. Dumbledore is no stranger to memory modification spells. I imagine he will try to rewrite everything to make it seem like he was the savior." Ron nods before kissing Hermione's temple.
"Through thick and thin. I don't care who your parents are. You are my friend, and I will be on your side no matter what." The redhaired wizard says while looking deep into his friend's eyes. Even though her appearance changed, she still looked like Hermione. Her nose and smile are the same. Her eyebrows still give away her emotions. Her tears still pull at his heartstrings. Harry nods in agreement. He takes his friends' place as he stands to leave. "Harry, do you still have the map?"
"Yeah, it's by my bed. Good luck. Hurry back." Harry says in a whisper. He takes Hermione's hand into his.
"Ron is right. The past doesn't matter. All that matters is us. Here and now. We will stand with you Hermione." She smiles at him, giving a weak cry as she buries her face into his chest. Harry wraps his arms around her and squeezes.
"Ouch."
"Sorry."
Snape rolls his eyes. Thankfully it seemed things were going smoother than he expected. There was a tinge of pride for the teenagers handling this in a mature way. He clears his throat as the wards drop slightly for Weasley to leave. When they go back up he looks at the two remaining teens.
"One other thing…"
"Oh dear lord, what now?" Harry asks, looking annoyed at his professor.
"Tom 'killed' you at the Ministry. So, there is no reason for him to try and kill you anymore. The rest of this war will depend on how Dumbledore goes forward with his plans." There is a silence. Hermione's eyebrows shoot up and Harry turns red.
"WHAT?"
"There it is…"
"What the fuck are you talking about Snape? He killed me. What bullshit are you on right now? I am obviously still alive!"
"Yes, I am aware. Lower your voice boy. The others are still resting, or did you forget about the ones lying in the other room? Yes, you are alive, but yes, he killed you. The night he killed your parents and tried to kill you; his soul grabbed onto the first live thing it could, you. A piece of the Dark Lord's soul was inside of you. That is why he needed your blood to come back, because you were linked not only mentally, but physically and spiritly. The night you fought against Bellatrix, and she cursed you, you passed out. When you were down, he ripped that piece of his soul out of your body, essentially killing you and making the prophecy null and void. He will no longer come after you, unless you give him a reason too."
"That sounds almost too good to be true." Hermione speaks out while squeezing Harry's hand to take his mind off everything. Harry's breathing picks up and his brain starts to try and find the memory of that night.
"It's not there Potter, Dumbledore saw to that. He knows what happened, but he still wants you to fight, to die. To be a martyr for his war. Wake up and smell the roses, Dumbledore is not the fucking saint you know. He is a powerful and dangerous lunatic of a man who is determined to keep all the power to himself. If you don't believe me, then I can arrange for you to meet with Tom."
"Why would I want to meet with Voldemort? Even if he isn't trying to kill me anymore, he is still a monster. He wants to kill all the muggleborns and anyone who doesn't side with him."
"Is that what you really think? My goodness Dumbledore has you deadly misinformed. The Dark Lord wants to control who can come into the magical world. He isn't going to kill the muggleborns, he wants to pacify them. Before you go off on the deep again, think about it. Muggleborns are uncommon in our world. They are an anomaly. There is no regulation when it comes to them. They are either very powerful and can control it, or end up burning out their magic, do to the misuse. Miss. Granger was that of even a larger anomaly. Everyone, and I mean everyone, thought that she was some bastard of a pureblooded family. No one was going to say anything because it is not ethical, but there was talk of having her tested. Dumbledore stopped all of that and now we know why. He wants to keep her in his clutches until the opportune time. Mark my words, even if she had never been found out, she would have been dead before the war was over. He hates Tom and anyone associated with him. He truly believes that anyone in or around his circle, no matter their age, is evil. He would have found some way or someone to kill her without anyone noticing. He would of pinned it on someone from the Dark. Get it through your thick skulls. He isn't someone you should just blindly trust. The rest of the world, outside of England, do not understand why there is a war coming. They have regulations for muggleborns. They limit who comes into their world. Our country is the only one who is still in medieval time ways. Basically, lawless and at the top of it all, Dumbledore is the one with all the power. Tom wants to put an ed to that and bring some decorum back to being an English Wizard."
"This is the most I have ever heard Snape talk."
"I know right. I thought it was the concussion talking."
"Now is not the time for jokes! I am trying to get through to you!"
"We hear you professor, it's just hard to believe. For the last five years, we have been told the complete opposite. I can see what you are talking about. When I think back to times, there were moments when Dumbledore's face dropped when I was in the room. Like he didn't want me there around Harry and Ron. Last year, he was adamant about not letting me be a hostage in the Tri-Wizard tournament. He didn't want me to have that connection with Krum. However, there were moments when he was kind and caring. When I was petrified, he sat with me from what Madam Pomphrey told me. Now he is going to kill me. It just seems so out of the blue. I don't see how that would benefit him. He knows that I am part of the reason why Harry and Ron have made it this far."
"Hey."
"Seriously?"
"Yeah, no, I get it. But Snape, she is right. How are we supposed to trust you?"
"First year…"
"GOT IT!"
A/N: Ahhh. Things are getting good. As much as I love Weasley bashing, I couldn't bring myself to do it. I love Molly too much. Can't wait to see what she does after hearing from her son. Dumbledore…have God have mercy on your soul if you have to deal with that woman. So, as some of you might have noticed, this is supposed to be a Hermione/Draco fic, it's coming. Our Draco will be making an appearance soon, along with some of our other sexy Slytherins. I cannot wait to write the banter between Pansy, Theo, and Draco. Blaise just likes to watch. Kidding, he doesn't hold back. I am not big on writing lemons. I try and cringe the entire time. So, the mature rating is mainly for the potential gore and the language. There will be some touchy feely here and there but no promises on writing full blown sex scenes. Sorry if that is your jam. I love reading it but writing it is a whole different ball game. Anyways…BACK TO THE STORY
Part 2
McGonagall sat there, white as a sheet, listening to one of her closest friends go on a tyrannical rant about how the wizarding world would fall to ruin given the chance of Hermione Granger coming of age. He honestly believed that she would be worse than her father. Her father, Minerva was still in shock about. She didn't think he was ever capable of love. Tom Riddle falling in love with a Ravenclaw girl, and having a child with her? It did not seem possible.
"Minnie, I don't know what to do. She has been a huge help to Harry but now that she will find out who she is, she might switch sides, or even kill Harry for her father."
"Really Albus, does that sound like Miss. Granger? For the love of God, sit down man, you are making me nauseous." She growls at the older wizard. Dumbledore looks at her, the twinkle in his eye dancing about. He nods slightly before sitting down in his chair. The transfiguration professor lets out a sigh before standing up, tucking her arms behind her back. She closes her eyes and counts to ten in her head. After a moment of silence, she turns back towards her friend. "Abus, really think this through. Hermione has only known muggle life for the first eleven years of her life. She wants nothing more than to be a witch and make our world better. More tolerable. More equal for all wizard and witch folk. She will always be there for Mr. Potter and Mr. Weasley. Even if they were to turn their back on her. Though I don't see that happening. They are a family Albus. She doesn't need to die. Just be honest with her. She is a smart girl. She will listen to you and take what you say into account. You are the center of their world. They trust you wholeheartedly. Please Al, stop and think, for once someone close to Tom Riddle is not evil and doesn't have to be handled.
"Minerva, you don't understand. If I tell her the whole truth, she will never be on our side. Harry and Ron will refuse to fight, the Weasleys will not fight if their son is against it. My Order will fall apart if I let her live." He says with sadness in his eyes. Or rather what Minerva thought was sadness, when all actuality, it was rage. The older wizard looks to the friend that has been by his side since the time she came to Hogwarts. He gripes his wand inside of his robes, the tingling feeling of betrayal filling him to the brink. She turns again, and at that moment, it felt as if time stood still. Dumbledore lifts his wand up, pointing it at the unexpecting witch. A painting across the room gasps, causing McGonagall to turn around. The light in her eyes dimming as she comes face to face with a different side of Albus Dumbledore.
In the Slytherin Common Room
"He said he likes to play catch, I asked if he could catch these hands, he said yes so I fucking hit him!" Theo shouts out across the Slytherin Common Room, using his hands to show how he hit poor unexpecting boy. Most of the older Slytherins, used to his antics and randomness, ignore the tall lanky boy while the younger students look at him in shock. Pansy Parkinson rolls her eyes before turning back to her book. Draco Malfoy smirks before moving a chess piece.
"Check."
"Oh, fuck off."
"Your mother."
"I am telling." Blaise says as he crosses his arms. Draco snorts before running a hand through his hair.
"And when will she reply to you Blaise? Next year at her 8th wedding?"
"Cheese and crackers Draco, who pissed in your butterbeer?" Pansy asks looking up from her book. Blaise Zabini snarls before reaching over the table and grabbing his friend by the collar. The room goes silent. Everyone holds their breath, waiting for the wizard to say something.
"Who said I am going to tell my mother? I am sure Cissy would be curious as to how her son talks when he isn't attached to her umbilical cord."
"Oh, that is vile." Theo says plopping down on the lush green leather couch next to Pansy. The witch nods before making a face of disgust.
"Seriously you two, I don't understand how you are friends. All you do is argue and fight."
"No, we don't" Blaise says as he sits back down. Draco, who is bright red, clenches his teeth.
"Blaise is right, that isn't all we do."
"Yes, it is." Theo says laying his head into Pansy's lap, much to her annoyance.
"Oh, fuck all the way off."
"Draco Lucius Malfoy!" All of the students turn to the opening of the common room to see Narcissa Malfoy standing there in all her pureblood glory. You could hear a pin drop.
"All right you little assholes, time for bed!" The Slytherin Prefect yells out. Narcissa shakes her head before walking into the room, pausing when a young girl almost runs into her.
"I'm sorry Mrs. Malfoy!" She squeaks out before running towards the stairs. Draco looks down at his feet while Blaise's skin was almost matching the color of his tie. Pansy and Theo sit there quietly, watching the scene unfold. Theo pulls out a bag of licorice wands and passes them slightly to Pansy. She takes one without looking. Once everyone except for the four teenagers are gone, Narcissa crosses her arms and stares at her son.
"Draco…" She says softly. Draco coughs slightly before standing up. He walks over to his mother and bows 90 degrees.
"Oh, that's impressive." Theo says. Draco jerks his head at his friend and glares at him. Theo holds his hands up in surrender. Pansy chuckles awkwardly. Feeling the need to play moderator, she speaks up,
"Evening Mrs. Malfoy, Narcissa, no okay, Mrs. Malfoy, what brings you by?" Pansy asks with a squeak to her voice. While their mothers were friends, there was still that fear of the woman who's known for looking the Dark Lord in the eye and telling him to sit the fuck down at dinner. There were just things that you left well enough alone. One, never tickle a sleeping snake, two, Molly Weasley is not the one, and three, when Narcissa tells you something once, you listen.
"Narcissa is fine. Cissy, however, is not." If possible, the deep baritone of Blaise's voice cracks and he lets out a squeak.
"We need to get the traps out again."
"Shut up Theo…"
"I can't help it; I am nervous and you know I get weird when I am nervous."
"You are always weird."
"Ah take that back."
Narcissa watches as the two childhood friends of her son bicker on the couch. While it was perfectly acceptable to relax in one's common room and away from society's watchful eye, there was a limit to her patience.
"Pansy, Theo, if I might be so bold, please cease your tedious chatter." She says with a glare. The two instantly go silent. Draco smirks while Blaise looks as if he is going to be sick. The young Malfoy stands up from his long bow and drops his smirk. He smiles slightly at the actual head of the Malfoy Household.
"Mother, what are you doing here? Is everything okay at home?" Draco asks. Narcissa frowns slightly.
"I am afraid I am here with some bad news. All of you need to write to your families, Hogwarts may not be safe soon. The Dark Lord received some terrible news tonight and there is talk that Dumbledore is going to do something rash. I have come to get Draco and to warn everyone. I expect that those who are eavesdropping on us will tell the rest of your house. Write home, have your parents ready to come get you if necessary. I am taking my son home due to the events that happened at the Ministry. Blaise, your mother gave me permission to take you as well, Theo and Pansy, your fathers will be here shortly. I am sorry but the rest of the year will be put on hold." She says looking at the stunned faces of the children around her. She sighs before clapping her hands. That breaks the silence, and everyone takes off to pack. Once she is alone, Narcissa's fear is etched onto her face. She had respect for Dumbledore, even if some of his ideals were against hers, but killing a woman right after birth and stealing the child away to be raised as muggles to stunt her magical abilities. There was no going back from that.
A/N: Don't kill me!! I am stopping there. Oh geez. So, some notes about the Slytherins. Just imagine, when
they aren't being watched in public or by their parents, they act like kids. I don't know about some of yall but when I was fifteen, I was a vulgar little shit. Especially when I wasn't around my mom, or grandparents. Most stories with them have everyone being haunted and depressed kids because of their families. But imagine if they all were raised by warm families but didn't show it because it would be considered a weakness. The only abuse in this story is going to be reserved for Dumbledore. And can we talk about how loving and understanding Ron and Harry are. It isn't a ruse. They aren't going to flip out on her or use this against her. Telling you that now. The golden trio have to be a whole for this story to work. Or at least for now. I have a birthday party to go to, so I won't be writing for the rest of the night. Hope you enjoyed this chapter! Be kind and rewind.
Wow.
