Ruby Schnee

" 'Magic items are seen as nearly useless in most situations'- yeah, yeah... I know that... skipping down... 'The smaller a Magic item the harder it is to increase in tier, with bracelets being the smallest one can usually be. This is one of the many reasons why wedding rings are only a human tradition'- Yeah I know that... " She let out a small groan as she flipped the page, trying to find what she was looking for. "Ah! Here it is! 'The maximum amount of magic items the average person can use is three at a time, not including magic tools or weapons.' There we go."

She noted that down in a small notepad she was carrying and slipped the book back into its place on the shelf, rejoining with the others to form a gigantic wall of literature.

The Royal library was quite the sight, thousands upon thousands of books in every subject one could imagine, rows upon rows of aisles of books. A two story section of the castle that rivaled the Cathedral in size.

"Ok... so I have two free slots-" She wasn't about to stop wearing her mother's cloak... maybe when their kid grew up a bit she'd pass it down... Ruby held the edges of it tightly for a moment. "Would that be ok...?"

She sighed gently... deciding to shelf the topic till there child was older... and... well...

When they actually had a child.

It had only been a few weeks since they had started trying, and because they both had some level of decency - unlike Blake and Yang - Weiss wasn't pregnant yet.

"The ritual was designed to guarantee fertility for male and female couples... I guess the whole same-sex pregnancy thing isn't guaranteed cause it's only a side effect..."

She might look into that if they couldn't conceive.

Ruby calmly walked down the aisle of the library. She was on the second story looking through the magic items section... which was surprisingly lacking. Not because they were missing books, rather, not many books had been written on magic items.

Well, comparatively to other magic related topics.

There was still a whole aisle of shelves covered in the books.

"I might use that Titan Bracelet thing Rory made... but for the other one..." Luckily magic weapons don't take up a slot... and speaking of which, she had still yet to decide on what weapon to make.

Though she had more important matters at the moment.

The next stage of the Hunter Exam was tommorow. Sure, Ruby could probably get in on mana count alone... but she wanted to do really well!

"Weiss is probably gonna watch again... I don't want to look bad."

So, she wanted to at least get one magic item to help. Her power was designed around it apparently, so she couldn't hope to match Weiss in power unless she made some good ones.

"I have to find a weapon I like using... then design a magic weapon in that shape... then actually make it... but magic items are easier... there are plenty that already exist... I just have to make better versions of two I like." She grabbed another book and flipped it over to read the title...

"Titan's Vanity Volume Two... great, where the hell is volume one?"

She glanced up and down the shelves... but no such luck.

After flicking through the book, she didnt see a mention of the bracelet that Rory had made... probably in the first volume then.

"Not that it matters... I can remember how he made that one so I can just copy it."

She put the book back with a sigh and moved back to the start of the shelf.

There were a few reasons Ruby was looking into magic items. Obviously she needed to be stronger for the Hunter Exam... well... she wanted to be stronger for it. But she also needed to be more powerful if she wanted to protect Weiss.

Leading into another reason for the sudden interest in power... the Vytal Festival.

As the first Dragon in hundreds of years, and the Queen Consort of Vale... she was expected to compete. But more then just compete, she would have to do well or risk embarrassing Weiss and her Kingdom. She had already been told about a few of the people they already knew were competing and...

"Between Uncle Qrow and Pyrrha, Vale is the only Kingdom with Harbingers this time round... Carmine is apparently the strongest non-Harbinger in the world... and that Valkyrie woman from Mistral is apparently really strong too..."

Not even counting the other competitors from Mistral... or the two top Knights from Atlas competing as well.

She sighed again as she reached the railing.

The second story of the library was similar to a large balcony that wrapped around the inside of the room, it didn't actually have a centre, so you could look down into the middle of the first story. There were some tables and chairs down there in the middle meant for study and reading purposes, one of which had a few books and papers strewn about it.

But more importantly, it had a very concentrated woman sitting with them.

Ruby leaned on the railing and smiled as she watched her for a moment. Weiss was thinking way too hard about this.

She flew down there as a cloud of rose petals and materialised next to her, sitting down at the same table. Weiss didn't even move her head from the papers or bat an eye.

"Any progress?" Her voice was hopeful... mainly because this topic was making Weiss kind of-

"No. None." Upset... She spoke with irritation in her voice, and Ruby wasnt sure if it was directed at her or not... ok, she knew it wasn't directed at her.

Ruby glanced over at one of the papers and tilted her head. "I like Crystal and Lily."

"I wish we could just name them whatever we want... but since they'll be a Schnee, their name 'has to have history'." Weiss put on such a mocking tone when she quoted her father... Ruby found it pretty cute.

"I mean... Lily has history. My last name used to be Rose!" Weiss turned to Ruby and glared at her for a moment.

"Ruby... both Crystal and Lily are attempts at finding names based on yours."

"How is Crystal-?... Oh." Ruby blushed gently and looked away.

"Ruby-" Weiss had finally turned her head and body away from the table, now looking at her wife and ready to tease her. "Did you actually not realise?"

"...Shut up..." Ruby mumbled the words dripping with embarrassment.

"What's that? I can't hear you." Weiss had leaned in and was using her teasing voice... It was always only used on Ruby too.

"Yes you can..." Ruby spoke a little louder and Weiss giggled as she threw the girls hood over her head.

"At least you're cute Ruby." She wrapped her arms around her and sighed. "Honestly... I'm not even pregnant yet and this child is already stressing me out..."

Ruby raised an eyebrow. "You do realise that they'll be even more of a pain once they're actually born right?"

"I don't want to think about that right now..." Weiss groaned and pulled Ruby in closer. "Nap time..."

"Weiss-"

"Shush... nap time." Ruby sighed at the Queens words and nodded, standing up as her scales formed over her body and her cloak changed to a darker red leather.

She picked Weiss up in a bridal carry and begun the... awkward... walk to their room. One she activated Pride for. There was no way she was going to be able to look anyone in the eyes if she didn't while carrying Weiss like this.

"Don't expect me to stay in bed with you all day... I have to go make some Magic items later." A poor excuse... but one she needed in order to escape from her wifes clutches once they got into bed.

"That's fine, I won't take much of your time." The way she said that...

"Are we actually going to sleep?" She eyed Weiss with suspicion and the white haired girl shrugged in Ruby's arms.

"Eventually."
