Chapter Two-hundred and forty-eight: Hammerlocke Hustle, Wyndon Will

The reborn trainers woke up in the hotel room they got after arriving back in Hammerlocke too late in the day for Dawn or the boys to try challenging Raihan. After they freshened up and had breakfast, they made their way to the local Pokémon Center, Dawn and the boys rotated their respective parties as need be, then they made their way over to the Hammerlocke gym. There, Dawn, Kenny, and Trip would each battle Raihan, one at a time, in their bids to earn their last Galar gym badges each, as victory in Hammerlock meant they'll each have eight Galar gym badges.

But Raihan is going to be tough; putting aside the facts he's a dragon Pokémon user and the overall strongest gym leader in Galar, Raihan has a reputation of being the only trainer in Galar strong enough to effectively serve as a rival to Leon, the Champion of Galar. It will be impressive indeed when Dawn and the boys have their battles against the Dragon of Hammerlocke. Dawn could especially tell this as, when she and the others approached the Hammerlocke gym, they saw a (very) large crowd of gym challenge fans swarming around outside, clamoring to get in.

The moment Mina saw one of those gym challenge fans spot her and the others, she called out her Dragonite and hopped on to fly straight up into the air as the gym challenge fans all proceeded to run right at Dawn, Kenny, and Trip. A sharp whistle made them stop, and everyone turned to see it as Raihan himself came walking out of his gym. "Hey, they can't get in to collect the whoopings that I'm going to be giving to each and every one of them if you guys swarm them and hold them up," Raihan spoke up, "So break it up a bit and let them all through, alright?"

Raihan led the reborn trainers (after Mina landed and recalled her Dragonite) into the Hammerlocke gym. Inside, they spotted Rose and Oleana in the lobby, clearly waiting for them. "Ah, about time you guys got in," Rose greeted.

"Yeah, the gym challenge fans outside kind of held us up," Kenny said dryly.

"You can't honestly blame them," Oleana remarked, "You, Trip, and Champion Dawn are about to have battles against Raihan, regarded as the overall strongest gym leader in Galar, although I should note Raihan has never beaten Melony."

"Raihan and Melony had only ever battled once," Rose began to point out, "And with all due respect, Raihan went into that battle not knowing that Melony specialized in ice type Pokémon, so he was caught off guard. I'm certain that Raihan will be better prepped for if and when he and Melony ever have a rematch."

"Yeah, Gordie treated me to lunch at Bagel Boys to make it up to me how his mom whooped me in that battle," Raihan said, "Bagel Boys is the best place in Galar to eat at, mark my words." To the reborn trainers, Raihan went on, "Anyway, I hope that Kenny is ready to battle me, I got it that he'll be the first among you guys aiming to battle me to collect a whooping."

"Oh ho ho, them's fightin' words," Kenny said in amusement as he and Raihan went out into the pitch of the Hammerlocke gym, while everyone else went to find seats, aside from Mina who went to a locker room to change into her cheerleading outfit really quick. Thus began the process of Dawn, Kenny, and Trip fighting to earn their respective final Galar gym badges, and from the only trainer in Galar powerful enough to actually rival Galar's undefeated Champion.

...

Kenny won his battle against Raihan, using his named Machamp Zarbon and named Glaceon Shallot in the double battle style that Raihan had called for. Shallot had one-shot Raihan's Flygon, and Zarbon dealt a Dynamic Punch to Gigalith that it barely was able to pull though against, but the resulting confusion made Gigalith hit itself and knock itself out as a result. Then Raihan sent out Sandaconda and Duraludon, the later being Gigantimaxed. Kenny Dynamaxed Zarbon and it one-shot the Gigantimaxed Duraludon, while Shallot took Sandaconda out with an Ice Beam that scored a lucky critical hit.

Although he lost to Kenny, Raihan took it in stride, and then after giving Kenny a Dragon Badge, he took a selfie with Kenny. It wasn't until after he uploaded the selfie to his social media page that Raihan saw that, in the background, Zarbon was stroking his own nipples as he wore an expression of aroused, sensual pleasure. Raihan, a bit taken aback, said that Kenny's named Machamp was a lot different than the Machamp that Bea of the Stow-on-side gym has, and Kenny nodded in agreement, saying that Zarbon can be a bit of a freak sometimes.

Later that afternoon, after Raihan's Pokémon all had a chance to rest, he had his battle with Trip. However, Trip won relatively easily. Deciding to give Raihan a taste of his own medicine, Trip brought along Todoroki, his named alpha Hisuian Goodra who, along with Trip's named Empoleon Myde, quickly took down Flygon and Gigalith, then Sandaconda and Gigantimaxed Duraludon after that (Todoroki was Dynamaxed to counter Duraludon; steel-dragon up against steel-dragon). Trip was able to claim a Dragon Badge from Raihan as a reult of his impressive win.

The following morning, Dawn outdid Trip with the win she scored against Raihan, taking Raihan's Pokémon out using her named Naganadel Wyrmscale and her named totem Kommo-o Tambourine, Dynamaxing Tambourine when Raihan Gigantimaxed his Duraludon. With Dawn winning against Raihan, all three of the reborn trainers who are in the business of battling gyms had earned a Dragon Badge each from the Hammerlocke gym. As such, their travels through Galar for the Galar gym challenge tour they were doing was now completed.

...But it wasn't the end of their time in Galar.

According to Rose, the finals of the current season of the World Coronation Series was going to be going down in Wyndon soon, and Dawn's group was given VIP tickets to watch the final match that will determine who between Galar Champion Leon and Indigo Champion Lance will be crowned as Monarch, the strongest trainer in the world. This told Dawn that she and the other reborn trainers would soon deal with events from the Journeys anime in their previous life, and at some point their past life knowledge of the anime will run out, meaning they'll be going in blind from that point moving forward.

The reborn trainers were given a train ride to a station on Galar Route Ten, a cold and frigid area. They brought winter wear outfit to help them get through, such as the return of Dawn's BDSP winter style outfit. The trek through the cold, snowy area was quicker than expected, and the only stop along the way the group made was when Dawn called for them to stop, as she spotted a wild Pokémon that she wanted to capture, one that spoke to her on something of a personal level due to her appreciation for the Vikings and their heritage and mythology back in her previous life.

The Pokémon in question was a Stonjourner, which Dawn caught without much trouble after having Chi-Chi wear it down. The Stonjourner was a male who Dawn ended up naming as Runic, due to how it had symbols on its legs that resembled Nordic runes. There's a reason Dawn often swears by Odin's name under her breath from time to time on occasion. Regardless, with that little distraction taken care of, the reborn trainers were able to finish their trek through Galar Route Ten, exiting out into a far less cold portion of the route that permitted them to change back into their normal outfits.

After that, it was a mere hop, skip, and jump away until the reborn trainers reached Wyndon.

...

Dawn and her group got a special VIP viewing room to watch the finals of the current World Coronation Series season, the last battle in the Masters Eight tournament. There, the four of them saw it as Lance and Leon had their fierce battle, Lance's shiny Gyarados going up against Leon's Charizard. As it was in the anime back in their previous lives, the reborn trainers saw it as Leon defeated Lance despite the type disadvantage that Charizard faced against a Gyarados. The two Pokémon had the finish of their epic clash after Gyarados Dynamaxed and Charizard Gigantimaxed.

After Leon won and was crowned as the Monarch of the World Coronation Series, the entire audience erupted into excited cheering to witness the rise of a new Monarch. People filed out of the stadium in due order, although Dawn and her group lingered afterwards due to Rose and Oleana meeting up with them. "So, what do you all think of the World Coronation Series?" Rose asked.

"Seems interesting," Mina remarked, "Not my cup of tea, but I bet Kenny and his friends will love to throw their hats into the ring."

Gesturing to Mina, Oleana said, "Yes, exactly. It's why Rose came here to inform Dawn and the boys here that he'd like for them to enter the next season of the World Coronation Series."

"I'm surprised you didn't enter us without our knowing or consent," Trip said dryly.

"We... actually could have faced a lot of trouble if we did do that," Rose admitted, "I mean, there would be no getting around it if you were entered without your knowing or consent as you'd reveal that you had been entered under such circumstances. As such, we can't enter you anyway, or force you to accept entering. But I do ask that you consider it."

"Having you three enter the next World Coronation Series season would help drive things up for viewership even more than what the season that had literally just finished had been able to pull in," Oleana explained, "It would-"

*CRASH*

"NAWWW!"

"CHUUU!"

"What in the world?" Kenny remarked as he ran out of Wyndon Stadium, with the rest of the reborn trainers running off after him. They could only hope that things wouldn't be too bad. Rose wanted to go check on things outside, but refrained when Oleana held him back, saying it'd be too dangerous for him to proceed when there's unknown dangers about.

...

When the reborn trainers got outside, they saw that a Gigantimaxed Pikachu had just taken down a Gigantimaxed Drewnaw. As the Gigantimax on both Pokémon had worn off, the reborn trainers saw it as Leon, who had recently been crowned as the Monarch, went on down to see Ash and Goh, who the reborn trainers were able to recognize from the anime in their previous lives; it didn't surprise them all that much that Ash had been able to meet up with Goh by this point, and the reborn trainers were able to reach them after Leon told off a stadium personnel who looked to have been aiming to tell off Ash.

"Hey hey, Ash," Kenny greeted, getting Ash, Goh, and Leon to turn to face him and the others, "Didn't think to see you here in Galar!"

"Oh, Kenny!" Ash said, before leaning to his side and seeing that Dawn, Trip, and Mina were there as well. "And I see that Dawn, Trip, and Mina are also here!"

"Oh yeah, you're friends with Champion Dawn and her companions," Leon remarked, "I remember that from the Champion's Favor Showcase back in Kalos."

Turning to look at Dawn, Goh said, "She's a Champion?"

Leon nodded once in the affirmative. "Oh yeah. Dawn Berlitz here is the Champion of Sinnoh."

A look of surprise appeared on Goh's face. "Oh, I heard of Dawn Berlitz! She starred in a few of the Kenny Harris Studios movies!" With a confused look on his face, Goh went on, "But I thought that she was really fat. Did she lose weight?"

"She used a fat suit for some of her roles, Goh," Ash explained, "I should know as I've also starred in some of the movies Kenny here had made."

"He's Kenny Harris?!" Goh exclaimed at Ash while pointing at Kenny, "And you were in some of his movies?! Do you know who played Ashku in Poké Sphere P?"

Pointing at Ash, Dawn said, "Ash here is the one who played Ashku."

"Dude! Ashku is my favorite character from any of the Kenny Harris Studios movies!" Goh said, "I gotta get your autograph!"

Leon laughed in good natured amusement. "Well I'm glad to see that things have settled down well enough for everyone to shoot the breeze!" To the trainers, Leon went on, "Now then, there's a few issues of clean up that ought to be-"

The Monarch was cut off when Goh said, "Wait, what about the request for a battle Ash made to you?"

"Maybe in due time," Leon replied, "But for now I-"

"Ah, Leon!"

Leon was cut off again, only this time it was Rose who called out, making everyone turn to see him walk up with Oleana following along behind. "There was something that I was hoping to get you to agree to, in order to drum up support for the next World Coronation Series season. As you have just been crowned as the Monarch of the World Coronation Series, I figured that you'd be interested."

Turning to face Rose, Leon said, "Well I'm all ears, especially if a battle is involved."

Rose nodded once in the affirmative. "Indeed a battle is involved, Leon." Gesturing to Dawn, Rose said to Leon, "If Dawn here agrees to it, I'd like the two of you to have an exhibition battle."

"You want my sister to battle Leon?" Trip practically exclaimed.

Nodding once in confirmation, Rose said, "Yes. Given how much of a show you, Dawn, and Kenny have put on challenging the gyms of Galar, I figured that a battle where one of you fought Leon would help to hype up the next season of the World Coronation Series. And who better to give Leon a challenge than another person reported to have never lost a battle?"

"The exhibition battle, should Sinnoh Champion Dawn choose to agree, will be a single battle against Leon where both will use one Pokémon each," Oleana said, "The trainer with the last Pokémon standing wins."

Kenny wore a look of consideration on his face. "...A battle where both trainers fighting have never been known to lose. Either way, an undefeated streak is going to be broken by the time things are settled." Looking to Rose and Oleana, Kenny said, "You guys sure know how to come up with ideas to draw in as many viewers watching things on TV from home as possible."

Dawn, after giving the matter a moment of consideration, said, "Alright. If Leon's okay, then I'll give it a whirl."

"Dude, we get to watch Leon battle again," Goh said, "This is going to be awesome!"

Ash nodded in agreement. "Yeah, Leon is tough. But so is Dawn. I'm not sure who between the two of them will win."

The following day, the seats in Wyndom Stadium were packed as people had come from all over to watch the exhibition battle between Leon, Champion of Galar and the current Monarch of the World Coronation Series, and Dawn, the current Champion of Sinnoh. Trip, Kenny, and Mina got seats with Ash and Goh, and all of them were very much excited to see who it will be between Leon and Dawn will walk away from the battle with their undefeated streak still in tact. The referee, after flying in on his Aegislash ride, gave the announcements before beginning the battle.

Tossing up a Pokéball, Leon called out, "Go, Charizard!" Already the audience was excited as Leon had just sent out Charizard, his ace Pokémon and the one that had won him the title of Monarch during the season of the World Coronation Series that had just recently concluded. There was no Pokémon of Leon's better able to help him hype up the next season of the World Coronation Sereis than Charizard, and seeing that magnificent draconic Pokémon emerge to do battle with whatever Pokémon that Dawn decided to use got the crowd roaring.

That being said, the crowd got even more excited as Dawn, while tossing up a Master Ball, called out, "Alright, Tsukune! Let's get goin'!" Everyone was utterly floored by the appearance of Dawn's named Palkia. "This exhibition battle is mean to be a show to drum up as much hype for the next season of the World Coronation Series as we can manage, right?" Dawn called out to Leon, "So I'm hoping to make it as much of a show as possible!"

"Oh yeah, we're totally going to have a Champion Time here!" Leon said, "I haven't been this excited to battle an opponent since I saw what that one girl used in the Champion's Favor Showcase back in Kalos!" Leon's Charizard roared in excited agreement, not at all bothered by the prospect of having to battle a legendary Pokémon that is described in the mythology of its home region as a deity. Similarly, Tsukune roared at Charizard, showing that it was approving of how Charizard wasn't slinking back in the least despite the opposition.

There was something else about this battle that made it even more hype; Dawn if she won will have defeated the current Monarch, which would be bound to boost her reputation as a trainer even more, but Leon if he won will not only prove himself as the invincible trainer people say he is, but he'll have defeated a Pokémon that is seen as part of the divine, which will make him come off as even more mindbogglingly powerful. As soon as both Charizard and Palkia were out, Dawn and Leon proceeded to Dynamax and Gigantimax respectively, showing of Dynamaxed Palkia and Gigantimaxed Charizard.

Gesturing forward, Dawn called out, "Tsukune, use Max Rockfall!"

"Charizard, use Max Wyrmwind!" Leon called out.

Both titanic Pokémon cast their mighty attacks at one another, and both took heavy blows. Tsukune was hurt, but Charizard looked to have taken it worse. Neither of the competing Pokémon went down and both looked to have some steam left, which Dawn attributed to how neither of them got S.T.A.B for using their respective moves. But it was clear Tsukune did more to Charizard with Max Rockfall (from Tsukune's Power Gem) than what Charizard did to Tsukune with Max Wyrmwind. And the attack debuff from Max Wyrmwind, although it did apply to Tsukune, wouldn't have any real effect as Tsukune doesn't have any physical moves.

But then there was the secondary effect of Max Rockfall, that being a sandstorm was conjured up and began to blow around the battlefield. The sandstorm went on to bother both Tsukune and Charizard. However, while the named Palkia was able to take the damage from sandstorm fairly well, it turned out that Charizard was so hurt by the initial damage it took from Max Rockfall that the buffeting damage from the conjured sandstorm was enough to knock it out. Charizard's Gigantimax was undone right before it passed out onto the pitch in Wyndon Stadium, laying there in defeat.

The bleachers of the stadium went silent, up until the referee announced, "Charizard is unable to battle! The winner is Palkia! Victory of this exhibition battle goes to Sinnoh Champion Dawn Berlitz!"

"Oh yeah," Trip said in the bleachers as he sat with Kenny, Mina, Ash, and Goh, "Charizard is a dual fire flying type, so it's got a crippling times four weakness to rock." The only reason that the others were able to hear Trip over everyone excitedly cheering was due to how they all sat immediately around him. The cheering of the whole stadium got to the point that Mina covered her ears. But then again, who can blame the people in the audience for being as excited as they were? They had just seen an awesome battle to advertise the next season of the World Coronation Series, where Leon will be the reigning Monarch.

And said reigning Monarch had just lost, his undefeated streak finally broken. It WAS just an exhibition match, thus no titles or the like were lost slash exchanged, but it still got the audience hyped to see Galar's undefeated League Champion take an 'L' from Sinnoh's undefeated League Champion, an undefeated streak that had been the one to survive this exhibition battle. Leon, although he did look surprised to have lost, was able to recover from the shock well enough before he walked up to Dawn and held a hand out to her.

"Okay, Sinnoh Champion Dawn," Leon said, "Now you HAVE TO enter the next World Coronation Series season. You pulling off a win here is going to draw in so many trainers, there will be no shortage of people to battle! Everyone who enters will have a Champion time!"

Dawn arched a wry eyebrow. "Such a competition will see people all over the world go all over the world, yeah? It may be interesting to go on a world-spanning trip like that. I'll have to talk things over with the others I'm traveling with, see if they're okay with it." Leon nodded in understanding as he held Dawn's right hand up for all of the audience to see, so that they can cheer for the girl who defeated a Monarch.

Later on, Dawn, Kenny, and Trip all registered to take part in the upcoming season of the World Coronation Series. All persons entering for the first time start in the Normal Class, regardless of prior accomplishments. Certain persons who were in the previous season, such as Leon, retain their final placements from the prior season. Even so, Dawn and the boys saw that they have to advance their placements if they wanted to go up in rank. But Dawn, Kenny, and Trip were all confident that they had it in them to take the World Coronation Series by storm.

To a lack of surprise on their part, the reborn trainers heard it eventually that Ash entered the World Coronation Series; they also heard that Ash had a private exhibition battle against Leon but lost when Leon's Gigantimaxed Charizard defeated Ash's Gigantimaxed Pikachu. As strong as Ash is and as much as he has been able to pull off here, Leon is STILL above him by quite a few places. But from what Dawn had gathered, Ash here had reportedly put up a much better fight than what Dawn recalled from the anime in her previous life.

The reborn trainers were also surprised to hear it that Paul had entered. They met him in the Dusty Bowl area of the Wild Area in Galar, and Paul explained he came to Galar partly to scope out competition in the World Coronation Series, and partly to continue his ever-spanning quest to redeem himself. They also noticed that Paul now had a walking stick, and was clearly relying on it to help him move about. "I was told that the damage I suffered due to risking myself to save that little blonde girl when Team Scorn attacked things in Alola will result in me having a permanent limp," Paul explained.

"And yet you still are moving about," Kenny remarked.

Paul nodded once in agreement. "I'm hoping that by competing in the World Coronation Series, meeting new people and learning about them and how they are as people through battle, I can learn things to help me better myself."

Gesturing to Paul's bum leg, Mina said, "How can all of that better your bum leg and heal the limp?"

The former jerkwad gently shook his head. "That's not what I meant when I say I wish to better myself."

Dawn could tell what Paul was getting at. "...You still seek to atone for your past misdeeds and poor attitude."

"Oh, that reminds me," Kenny said, "The lads here and I were recently in Sinnoh, and we met with Roark the Oreburgh City gym leader."

"You guys met with Roark?" Paul said, his interest piqued.

Trip nodded once in confirmation. "Oh yes. He told us about a recent incident in the mine at Oreburgh City where there was a cave-in due to one miner being a tad reckless in his digging." The Berlitz brother did not want to say it out loud who said irresponsible miner was. "Anyway, the resulting cave-in, after all of the rocks from it had been cleared out, was found to have resulted in twenty deaths, eight human workers and twelve Pokémon."

Paul's eyes widened out of shocked surprise. "There were twenty deaths in Oreburgh City recently?"

"...Yes," Dawn said, "And one of the Pokémon that was killed was Maylene's Lucario who you had put into a coma because you lost your temper."

Instantly, Paul's expression relented and he had a look of pure, utter shame and regret on his face. "...I see."

"If it helps," Dawn went on, "Maylene's Lucario was so deep into the mine at the time of the cave-in, that even if it was in peek physical condition it still wouldn't have escaped in time to avoid the cave-in. It's estimated than in a scenario where Maylene's Lucario did not suffer the injuries that resulted from your temper tantrum, it would have had a ninety-one point six percent chance of dying in the cave-in at Oreburgh Mine anyway. You pretty much are NOT responsible for the death of Maylene's Lucario in Oreburgh City, Paul."

"But Maylene is still very bitter about the whole deal and still hates you," Mina said, "It's... best you steer clear of Oreburgh City for a while."

"...Wait a minute," Paul began, "What's Maylene doing in Oreburgh City?"

"She moved in with Roark," Trip said, "Also they're getting married. I'm pretty sure Maylene doesn't want you popping up during that ceremony."

Paul had a surprised look on his face. "...I hope they would at least accept me telling them congratulations," Paul went on.

"Maylene did say something nice about you, if it helps," Dawn said, "She said she enjoyed your performance in the Poké Sphere P movie, albeit due to how your character was messed with by Ash's character and Ideku's character."

"Oh, that reminds me," Paul said, "I heard it, and then later confirmed it, that Ideku had entered the current season of the World Coronation Series. I also got it that at least two Champion ranked trainers from the Paldea region had entered, and two girls from the Galar city of Spikemuth had entered. Supposedly, one of the Spikemuth girls is autistic."

"Must be Nina and Marnie," Dawn said, "We've met them befo-"

"Gon?"

Dawn and the others were cut off when a random wild Pokémon cry sounded out. The reborn trainers and Paul all turned to face it as a wild Flygon came flying up to them where they were standing in the Dusty Bowl. The wild Flygon landed on its feet, walked up to Dawn, and sniffed at her a bit. After sniffing at her bag, the wild Flygon got excited and started to paw at it. Dawn, realizing what the Flygon was after, opened her bag and pulled out some of the snacks that she had in there. Flygon got super excited over an individually wrapped cinnamon roll.

Dawn smiled in amusement as she opened the treat and offered it to the Flygon, who proceeded to gobble it up. "You seem to have a way with dragon Pokémon, Dawn," Paul remarked as he eyed Dawn easily taming the wild Flygon with a cinnamon roll.

"Well to be honest," Dawn said, "Dragon is one of my more favorite types of Pokémon, along with fire and fighting. But I don't focus on just those types exclusively." Dawn was then able to convince the Flygon to come along with her, capturing it easily. After seeing that it was a boy, Dawn decided to name him Conan. After the ball that held the now dubbed Conan went to Oak's lab, Dawn went on, "Anyway, it doesn't surprise me in the least that Ideku entered the World Coronation Series, although I can't help but be worried about him."

"Yes," Paul said, "I got it that Ideku Badorigo's older brother was killed in Team Scorn's last major attack in Alola. I had also gotten it that Ideku inherited his brother's Pokémon, and that he's prioritized helping them get over their old trainer's death. But Ideku will need time to himself, losing someone close to you can never be good for you. My older brother Reggie, when his Linoone died due to an issue with Pokémon food that led to a scandal in court, was by no means happy his Linoone had died. Of course, humans and Pokémon are different, but both can be close to someone. And if that close someone dies, well..."

"It's something Maylene had gone through when her first Lucario died," Dawn said, "She had a Riolu that evolved into Lucario since then, but the sting of the loss that Maylene suffered is still fresh."

Paul nodded in agreement. "I don't think I'll be able to face Maylene, and to a lesser extent Roark, for quite some time. But I would like to apologize to them one day. They are stronger than I originally would have given them credit for. And Ideku..." Gently shaking his head, Paul said, "...Ideku Badorigo is very strong himself. He'll be a contender to battle for the title of Monarch of the World Coronation Series, mark my words."

The reborn trainers all nodded in agreement before they saw Paul off. They themselves had to catch a plane to travel to another region to seek out other trainers in the Normal Class to see how far they can advance their rankings in the World Coronation Series. There was a very long road ahead of all of them, but they felt confident that they will get to see it as things for the current season played out. They were, naturally, worried that their knowledge of the anime from their previous life will eventually tap out here, making them go right into uncharted territory.

...But that also made them excited.

END, CHAPTER TWO-HUNDRED AND FORTY-EIGHT

Author's notes;

This chapter sees the Galar gym challenge tour finish up, then the heroes go to Wyndon to see Leon beat Lance and become Monarch.
