Okay. So. I'm O.L. Blakesley. I'm an avid reader of manga, fanfiction, and fantasy in general. I do not claim to be a great writer, nor do I even claim to be decent really. But I have ideas and with how my mind works I have to at least write them down in order to clear my mind so I can focus on whatever it is I may be doing. This story is the result of writing down several ideas and combining them. Of course for a few of my ideas I am not the first to have come up with them, nor have shared them in story format. I don't really have anything else to say at this time, so I'll just leave you with the disclaimer.
DISCLAIMER:I do not own Fairy Tail. I do not own these characters. I do not own the story idea, at least not entirely. Then again, someone else may have had the same ideas I did. Eh, how about I don't own anything in this story. Is that a good enough disclaimer?
Chapter 1.
A Mission and A Chance Meeting
'Hmm… this job looks good' Cana thought to herself as she glanced over the job board. Just as she reached out for it however a gruff voice called out from behind her.
"Not sure you want to take that one."
Turning she was surprised to see Gajeel, one of the guilds resident loners. Sure he occasionally joined Team Shadow Gear, and the master would send him out with Team Natsu once in a while, but for the most part he worked alone.
Cana was surprised he even spoke to her really. But she wasn't going to let him stop her from taking the job. This time however the Iron Dragon Slayer reached out and stopped her from grabbing it.
"You trust Salamander's instincts right? Trust mine. If you're dead set on taking that job then don't do it alone."
Upon hearing the word instincts, Cana had to flinch. Everyone in the guild knew that Natsu's instincts were highly developed. The had actually thrown out several jobs because Natsu had a bad feeling about them, only to later on find out that those jobs were failed ambushes by dark wizards that wanted to take them out.
Gajeel was no longer paying attention having grabbed a different mission flyer and walked off already. While she wanted to put her faith in the man, just like the guild master had suggested when he announced to the guild that Gajeel was joining them, she still felt the need to be cautious about his words.
'I could always see what Natsu has to say about it…' She suddenly thought to herself. Looking around she didn't see his mop of pink hair anywhere. But she also didn't see Lucy or Erza. Unsure on if they'd taken a job or something, she pulled the flyer in her pocket and walked towards Mira at the bar.
"Hey Cana what can I do for you?"
The white haired barmaid asked as the brunette leaned on the counter.
"The master wanted us to learn to trust Gajeel right? Well he gave me a warning about this job, and said something about instincts. I'd like to just take him at his word, but I'm not sure I trust him enough for that just yet. I want to see if Natsu's got the same feeling about it. Any idea where he's at?"
Mira offered her a gentle smile, understanding exactly what Cana was meaning in regards to Gajeel.
"He's out back. After everything that's happened lately, Wendy has been asking for his help in training."
Cana couldn't help but smile after hearing that. The young Sky Dragon Slayer had quickly wormed her way into the guilds heart. She was a big part of the reason why they were finally starting to relax a bit around Gajeel. After all he and Natsu were noticeably gentler when around her. They were extremely encouraging, even despite the Iron Dragon Slayer's gruffness. The best way to describe them was a sibling relationship where the older brothers doted on the younger sister.
The brunette had only just turned to walk towards the back door when it was opened quietly. 'They must be done training for the day.' She thought to herself.
Her thoughts were right on the money as she saw the shock of pink hair that was Natsu's. She didn't realize it at first, but he was slightly bent over carrying a worn out Wendy. There were matching grins on the two's faces, and despite their curiosity, everyone that noticed the looks turned away. Natsu and Wendy would tell them if they wanted to and if not, well, they would be allowed to have a secret all their own.
"I know you want some rest, so I'll carry you over to the infirmary. It's quiet in there so you might be able to nap a bit."
Cana heard Natsu telling the blue haired girl as she silently followed along. 'Say what you will about how reckless Natsu is, but damn is he good with kids.' She thought to herself as she leaned on the door frame, watching the Fire Dragon Slayer tuck the Sky Dragon Slayer in.
"Was there something you wanted Cana?"
Natsu's inquired when he turned back towards the door.
"Yeah. I got a warning from Gajeel about this job, he warned me not to take it by myself. Master want's us to trust him more, but I'm not quite sure I'm ready for that just yet."
She replied, handing the flier to her fellow Fairy Tail guild member. Natsu didn't take long to read it over, and he grunted quietly.
"Metal-head was right. This isn't a solo mission. If you really want to take it, then let's go. Otherwise leave it and I'll have team Natsu handle it."
"Oh I'm taking it. No way in hell I'm letting you guys turn down the booze that's part of the reward."
Cana near instantly responded. Natsu snorted at her.
"Oh come on Cana. You're one of the few people in the guild that know my happy go lucky attitude is just so I can have more fun. I know how sought after the wine from this vineyard is. Bringing some back for gramps might be enough to get me a bit more leeway when I get carried away."
Together they walked back down the stairs so they could find Mira and have her fill out the forms that they were taking the job.
"Speaking of your attitude, how is it that there are only three of us in the guild that know you're faking it?"
"Gramps is a genius when it comes to reading people, Gildarts is the same way, though he doesn't fake being stupid just to cause more fights, and you're extremely observant despite spending the majority of your time drunk. Also I can't hide my nature from another Dragon Slayer, so Wendy and Gajeel both know."
"Touche."
With that they fell silent. When Cana first found out that Natsu only acted stupid, immature, and clueless for fun, he had begged her not to ruin his secret. True it bothered him a little to hear everyone talking about him with exasperation about those traits, but he was able to ignore it because he knew that in the end they would always have his back. It had taken a bit of convincing, but she did agree not to tell anyone.
"Oh you're back. What's the plan here?"
Mira commented when she saw Cana walking towards the bar.
"Natsu agreed with Gajeel that it wasn't a one person job. I want part of the reward so I'm taking it and he's tagging along."
The white haired barmaid just giggled as she wrote it down that they were taking the job.
"Alright you're registered. Have fun!"
It wasn't until they left the guild hall entirely that Cana realized Natsu's ever present partner wasn't floating around like normal.
"Natsu, where's Happy?"
"He was attempting to gain Carla's affection with fish. Last I saw him, he had flown off to buy some tuna."
The pink haired man responded with a chuckle. The Cards mage just shook her head. It certainly sounded like something the flying blue furball would do. They were halfway to the train station, when they ran into the cat. Cana was not going to walk damn near the entire length of Fiore for this job. Natsu hadn't really tried to argue against her, figuring he could at least take a nap on the train to avoid his motion sickness.
"Natsu what are you doing? Did you want to buy some fish too?"
"No Happy. Cana wanted to do this job and my gut said not to let her go alone."
"Oh. Do you want some fish?"
It was the usual banter between the two, even as Happy deactivated his Aera magic to sit on Natsu's head while he finished munching on the fish he had in his paws.
When they finally got on the train it was a bit too crowded for them to have a compartment for themselves. Feeling bad for the fact he wouldn't have been able to lay down and take a nap on a free bench, Cana said she wouldn't mind if he wanted to use her lap as a pillow.
"Just don't wiggle around and make me spill my drink."
She commented as a bottle of stout appeared in her hand out of nowhere. Happy had already pulled out another fish and was oblivious to the fact he had fallen off of Natsu's head and was now sitting on the floor. Cana was one of the few people that Natsu didn't mind letting his guard down around so he had just nodded at her offer and laid down without a word.
- XXxxXxXxxXX-
Hours later they were almost on the complete opposite side of Fiore, walking along the dusty road that lead to the vineyard and distillery that was known for their cognac, brandy, and port wine. Though thanks to the barley, and rye farms nearby they were also fairly well known for whiskey and gin.
Natsu had just mentioned being able to smell the alcohol, which was fairly impressive considering they still had another five miles to go before they reached the Highlands Vineyard and Distiller, when they heard a loud echoing roar.
"Shit. We've got to move!"
Natsu commented as he recognized the sound. It wasn't a dragon's roar though. Cana wasn't able to keep up. In the end Happy, who had been napping on Natsu's head while they walked, had to fly back to Cana and carry her to keep up with Natsu.
"What the hell was that roar?"
"It was a wyvern."
"I'm sorry did you just say we're running into a fight with a wyvern?!"
Cana retorted sharply.
"No. I'm running into a fight with a wyvern. You and Happy are going to evacuate everyone you can. Don't even think about trying to help me either. I'll be able to handle it, but I'll have to go all out right from the start. Trust me when I say that isn't something you want to be part of."
The Fire Dragon Slayer responded with a stern tone. Cana had opened her mouth to say she wasn't going to let him fight alone when she felt the heat begin to roll off of him. It wasn't the hottest she'd felt hims flames get, but it was warm enough to get his point across.
"Alright got it. Happy and I are on evac detail."
Another roar split through the air. This time Natsu at least, could feel the tremors from the ground shaking at the volume.
"Right. Looks like you guys will get there first. I'm going to hit this bastard hard enough he won't be able to go further without getting through me."
Natsu commented to them as he caught sight of the wyvern in the sky just ahead of them. Cana watched her guild mate in awe as he jumped up high enough to get above the flying wyvern.
"Pull yourself together Cana! we've got to help the farmers."
Happy's voice pulled her out of the daze she had started to drift into.
"Right. Let's go Happy!"
With that the said the blue cat poured on the speed, leaving behind the sight of Natsu plummeting into the dragon with a drop kick. Gravity, and the sheer power behind his attack driving the wyvern into the ground hard enough to crater it.
"Good thing I know what I'm doing" Natsu muttered as he dashed towards it's face with his right arm pulled back slightly. Normally he'd ball his hand into a fist, but he knew it wouldn't be enough. Only he, Gildarts, and Makarov knew it, but in terms of sheer destructive power, at least when he was using his full power and truly damaging attacks, the pink haired mage could rival and even surpass Gildarts. Instead of a fist he bent his fingers slightly, separating them into pairs to make his hand look more like a set of claws.
Just when the wyvern opened it's mouth to unleash a breath attack he jumped. When he plummeted into the dragon-like beast with his axel kick before, he had made sure to hit it in the center of it's back, directly between it's wings. This time he brought his hand down on the creature's head.
"Fire Dragon's Piercing Flare!"
Just before his hand made contact three extremely condensed gouts of flame burst from his fingers, as if they were claws, before burning through the wyvern's scales and digging in deeply. It cried out in pain as Natsu drew blood. Rotating his body as his attack ended, Natsu rolled down the wyvern's back, before flipping off and landing on his feet. He had to duck to avoid being pierced by the wyvern's tail.
Wyverns were quite mindless beasts, so Natsu bit back a taunt as he jumped back to avoid being shredded to pieces by a swipe of the wyvern's claws.
"Fire Dragon's Blazing Roar!"
Unlike his normal breath attack which was a hot and bright orange burst of flames and heat, this one was a bright yellow. It was far, far hotter than his normal roar as well. The sheer magic behind the attack was enough to cause the wyvern to take to the sky to dodge, before dive bombing towards him.
Natsu managed to sidestep the majority of the wyvern's body, but he was clipped on the right shoulder by one of it's talons just before it hit the ground. Spinning from the hit, Natsu retaliated with a punch.
"Fire Dragon's Volcanic Impact!"
His fist slammed into the side of the wyvern. The moment his arm stopped moving a blast of magic exploded from his hand into the wyvern's side with enough force to throw it into a nearby boulder. The impact from the monster's back crashing into said stone was enough to cause it to shatter.
The wyvern spewed a bit of fire rather than spittle, as Natsu had managed to knock the air out of it's lungs with the hit. Not wanting to risk wearing himself out, he quickly gobbled up the small spurt of flame as he dashed towards the wyvern once more.
"Fire Dragon's Piercing Flare!"
Letting his fire build around his hand, Natsu forced it to condense into a massive set of claws before raking them across the wyvern's face. His attack caused the monster to cry out in pain as he sliced through part of it's jaw. He didn't have time to doge, but his arm was already in position to guard as the wyvern's tail shoved him away with a flick.
"I'm going to end this now."
Natsu commented to himself when he stopped sliding along the ground. His instincts were screaming to catch up with Cana and Happy. Heat and flame poured off of him, condescending and pooling around his hands in two blade like shapes. As he let his fire condense into a white hot state, the wyvern charged forward, mouth open as if it were intending to swallow him whole.
"Fire Dragon's Secret Art, Crimson Lotus: Incandescent Cross!"
The beast was no more than ten feet from him when he finally made his move. His hands slashed through the air creating an X of pure flame. When the fire met the wyvern, there was only one way to describe the results. Carnage.
Because he had condensed his flames as much as possible, they became so super-heated that they could cut through anything, including the scales and flesh of the wyvern. The poor creature wasn't even able to wail in pain as his attack was so devastating that it near instantly killed the wyvern.
Natsu watched just long enough for the wyvern's remains to glow and burst into shards of magic before racing away. 'I'm going to need some time to myself once Cana and I are done with this job...' He thought to himself as the magic from the wyvern corpse followed him, flowing through him and merging with his own.
- XXxxXxXxxXX-
Cana and Happy were not having a good day. The wyvern that Natsu had stopped to fight wasn't the only one in the area. By the time they had gotten to the buildings that made up the vineyard and distillery, there was already panic and chaos. A few of the men that worked in the distillery were capable of using magic, though they weren't exactly strong mages. They managed to draw the other wyvern's attention and distract it however. But there was a lot of destruction already.
"Happy start carrying people out of here. I've got to help them!"
Cana nearly shouted at the blue cat as she forced him to drop her so she could run towards the other wyvern. As she moved her right hand quickly found the holster for her deck of cards. Without looking she pulled the top three and tossed them towards the monster.
"Summoned Lightning!"
As she called out her command the magic of the cards made them glow briefly before a bright flash of green arced out from them striking the wyvern in the back with a bolt of lighting. It flinched from the impact but there wasn't any other sign of her attack having done any damage. However the wyvern had turned towards her. From the eyes of the beast, Cana was able to deduce that it was quite mindless, and had only turned to face her because she was the biggest threat in the area at the moment.
She just barely jumped out of the way when it's tail moved to pierce her.
"Sun's Strength!"
This time the cards burst into flame when the magic activated them.
"Shit."
She muttered to herself when the wyvern just opened its mouth and ate the fiery cards. Because of the distraction she was slammed against one of the crumbling walls of the distillery building by the wyvern's tail. It pressed forward intending to tear her to shreds with it's talons.
"The Prayer's Fountain!"
She screamed as she placed a card on the ground in front of her, hoping that the forceful eruption of water from the spell would push the wyvern back and prevent her from being killed. Luck was on her side as the wyvern screeched in was was probably frustration that it couldn't get the kill.
A pillar of fire burst from the Wyvern's mouth at her causing Cana to frown. She clearly wasn't doing enough damage to it, and she didn't really have any defensive spells. Dashing away from the wall she grabbed another set of three cards.
"Let's try this then..."
She muttered before waving the cards towards the wyvern.
"Icicle!"
A small barrage worth of spears made from ice appeared in the air before being shot at the wyvern. It reared back onto its hind legs and pulled it's wings in causing a few of the javelin like icicles to miss, but a couple hit it dead on. Cana smiled as she saw them hit, but it was quickly wiped off her face when she saw there was no damage.
"Damn! Shocking it didn't work. It can eat fire. The icicles couldn't even pierce it's scales. What the hell can I do?!"
By this point she was the only one still in the area. Happy had managed to get everyone safely out of range, though he had to move a bit slower with the last few people, as they were injured quite seriously while they attempted to distract the wyvern before she had arrived.
Cana leapt to the side, just barely avoiding being crushed as the wyvern jumped towards her. Realizing she had one more trick up her sleeve, she shrugged.
"Welp. I've got to try. But first I need to get some distance again."
She mumbled before running away from the Wyvern, ducking under it's swiping talons as she did. She had to throw herself to the ground and somersault away when it launched another breath attack at her. Springing back to her feet Cana turned and held out two cards.
"Wind Edge!"
A blade of compressed air launched itself towards the wyvern, gaining power as it crossed through the sky. The Cards mage turned to look just in time to see a spurt of blood. She pumped her fist in a cheer as she finally drew blood. Then she realized where it hit. She had managed to catch the wyvern in one of it's eyes with the wind blade.
At first she wanted to cry as she realized she couldn't really damage it. Then she realized all she had to do was get her icicle spell to hit it in the eye. The lances of ice were long enough that the should be able to go through the eyes and hit the monster's brain. Yet she had one issue with that plan. Because of how the magic works, any spell that comes from the card rather than just empowering the card couldn't be precisely aimed. In other words, even if her aim with the card was right, it wouldn't mean the spell would be aimed right.
"It's the best chance you've got girl."
She told herself as she once again dodged out of the way of a gout of flame. Hoping it might help improve her odds, she inched herself just a little closer as she pulled out three cards once more.
"Icicle!"
Yet just as her previous attempt with the spell, the icicles just shattered against the wyvern's scales. What she didn't notice however, was that the wyvern had moved towards her as the spell hit. With one swipe of its clawed front leg she was tossed to the side, a rather sizable gash going across her stomach.
She impacted the side of the only building that hadn't yet been damaged by the wyvern, and she hit it hard. It was only her luck that saved her as the wall crumbled causing her to fall under the breath of fire that the wyvern had shot at her.
Knowing her situation was getting desperate, Cana moved to draw three more cards. As she did she realized her deck was starting to run low. 'I've only got one more shot after this one.' She thought to herself with a grimace as she tried to ignore the pain from the cut she had received.
"Icicle!"
She hoped that the old saying 'The third times the charm' would be true in this instance. But that hope was shattered when rather than just take the hit, the wyvern once again breathed fire towards her. The spears of ice were melted as the flames approached her. Her eyes were wide as she realized it was the end. She didn't have anything to shield herself with, and there was no way she could dodge it in time.
Just before the fire was going to hit her she closed her eyes, not wanting to see what it would do to her. One second passed. Then another. It was only when she realized it should have hit her already that Cana heard the sound of munching. Relief flooded through her as she opened her eyes.
Natsu was standing right in front of her devouring the wyvern's fire.
"Sorry I'm late. You did good in keeping it busy. I've got it now though."
He commented to her without even looking.
"I'm somewhat pissed off right now, but I don't have the time to play, or even let out a bit of steam, so I'm just going to end you with one shot."
Natsu spoke to the wyvern despite knowing it couldn't understand him.
Dashing forward, he ducked under it's right front leg as it swiped its talons at him. When he came back up his arms were ablaze with flames that were so bright Cana had to close her eyes to avoid going blind. The brilliance of his fire was on a completely different level form normal, and the heat was far, far worse as well.
"Fire Dragon's Secret Art, Crimson Lotus: Blazing Rampage!"
She heard the sound of the wyvern crying out in pain a few times, with each consecutive wail being weaker and weaker. When the sound stopped she opened her eyes and was stunned to see that Natsu had turned the head, upper arms and chest of the dragon to a pulp. Cana had expected to see red coating his arms and the ground from the wyvern's blood being spilled by what had to have been an extremely brutal attack. But there was no trace of it. Her eyes widened as she realized it was hot enough to make the blood evaporate rather than just simply dry up.
The Card mage didn't know why, but she felt the urge to step closer to her pink haired companion. A part of her wondered why she wasn't recoiling from him in fear over what he had done, but it was so small she didn't even notice it. When she took her step forward however pain lanced through her stomach as she recalled the gash that the wyvern had given her.
Wincing she let out a small gasp of pain that caused Natsu's head to whip towards her, eyes wide.
"Well fuck."
He commented before rushing to her side.
"Cana do you trust me?"
"Of course I do."
"Good. I'm about to do something that most would consider weird. If you want I'll explain why I did it after you've been healed."
With the short conversation finished Natsu ripped off his vest, using it to gently swap the blood from her stomach. It wasn't done to clean her off, so much as it was to clear enough of the blood away for him to see the size of the cut. Once he was satisfied that he knew how big it was he leaned in, and softly breathed onto it, using a small flickering flame to cauterize the cut.
When he was sure it had sealed completely he closed his mouth and waited for enough saliva to build up. The moment his mouth was full of saliva he rolled his tongue out and lathered her wound with it.
For her part Cana just shivered in pleasure at the touch of his tongue. She wasn't sure why, but the fact he was being so attentive and careful with her was far more endearing than she would have expected. On top of that, his magic just felt so protective of her that she couldn't even make the effort to protest despite how strange it was.
There was a bit of tingling in her stomach when his head pulled back. She had been watching him carefully as he did whatever it was that he had done, so she was surprised to see her wound was almost completely gone. In fact, she was willing to bet that it would be gone within a day or two.
"Holy shit Natsu what the hell did you do to make it heal up that much?!"
She mumbled as her hands traced the small scar that remained. The pain hadn't vanished entirely but it was far, far more manageable.
"Dragons and Dragon Slayers have a special quality to our saliva. It differs depending on our element, but as a Fire Dragon Slayer, any wound caused by fire or cauterized by fire will be healed significantly, almost as if it was being healed by regeneration magic. Granted it is more effective on our own bodies than anyone else's but it'll do in a pinch."
He explained, despite knowing her mind wasn't exactly focused on conversation.
"That's amazing."
She responded with awe in her voice.
"Yeah well we can talk about it more later. We still have to check in with all the people you and Happy evacuated."
The Brunette blinked at that. He was right, their job wasn't over until they got the quest flyer signed by the person that had posted it.
"Right. Let's move then. Happy should be on his way back to check in with us by now."
She replied as they started walking. True to her word they had only moved a few dozen yards when a flying blue blur smashed into Natsu's head.
"Natsu you're alright!"
The cat cried out in relief.
"Of course I am buddy. You didn't really think something like a wyvern could take me out did you?"
But Happy's attention had already turned to Cana. She looked quite a bit worse for wear than he had expected.
"Are you okay Cana?"
Looking at the blue fuzzball that was just sitting on Natsu's head, she shook her head.
"I've been better that's for sure. But yeah, I'm good for now."
For some reason she didn't want to bring up the fact that Natsu had healed her. It was strange how she felt the desire to keep it a secret just between the two of them.
- XXxxXxXxxXX-
Happy had guided them to the hospital he had evacuated the people to. Because it was so far out into the country, it was rather small. To Cana it seemed more like a clinic than a hospital, but she didn't complain.
Two of the five men that had been distracting the wyvern when she had arrived were still awake and thanked her profusely for rescuing them. It was extremely humbling to her, especially since she had really only managed superficial damage, not counting what she was going to call the lucky shot to the wyvern's eye.
But the staff at the hospital were quite busy. Cana was content to wait as they talked with the few people that weren't injured or at least didn't have severe injuries. After all the moment they had walked in one of the doctors told them that she wasn't allowed to leave until they'd given her a once over. Neither of the Fairy Tail mages were surprised by that. While Natsu had healed the gash she received, Cana did look quite roughed up.
The only complaint either of them had was the fact that somewhere there was a baby crying practically non stop. When a doctor finally came to see her, she asked why no one was trying to hush the infant that was wailing.
"We can't. The little girl was asleep when she arrived so we checked her over and then put her in a bassinet. Ever since she woke up she's been crying and no one can get close. We think she's somehow activated her magic since the reason we can't get close is that it's too hot for anyone to go near her."
The doctor explained with a frown. It was mirrored on Cana's face, though when she turned to see what Natsu had to say about the matter he was gone. Happy was sitting in the chair that Natsu had been in though.
"Natsu left the moment you asked about the crying."
The cat explained with a shrug. Cana had to groan.
"Right well there goes that idea. Natsu is immune to fire and heat, so I was going to suggest someone coach him through what you need to do to calm the baby down."
She told the doctor with a sigh. The doctor just gave her a soft smile for the thought. But when he was done giving her a check up they noticed the sound had stopped. The doctor made to rush over to find out what was going on, but he was stopped when Natsu stood in the doorway to the room they were in. Cana was just looking at Natsu with wide eyes. He had the baby in his arms, and she was giggling at him as he wiggled a finger in her grasp.
"Well I figured out why no one could get near her. I'm the only Fire magic user in the building. The wyvern attack caused her to instinctively use her magic when she woke up. I hate to say it, but I'm not sure her parents could keep her now that her magic is partially active."
Natsu commented as he looked to the doctor.
"From what we've been told by the others that lived and worked at Highlands, the little one lost her father before she was born, and despite our best efforts her mother wasn't able to be saved. This baby is an orphan. The others all said they were willing to take her in, but none of them were certain they could given how much restoration work they have ahead of them."
Both Natsu and Cana frowned at the Doctors words.
"So what happens now?"
Happy asked, knowing it was a rather serious situation. It was Natsu that answered.
"Fiore doesn't have a magical orphanage, so leaving her in one isn't a good idea. Her magic means that a fire mage has to be present until she's old enough to learn to control it."
"Natsu are you trying to say you'll take her in?!"
Cana blurted out in shock. The pink haired man turned towards her and she could see in his eyes that he was serious.
"Her family is gone and she is going to need a fire mage to help her unlock her magic properly, let alone eventually learn to control it. The only other natural fire mage in Fiore that might, I repeat might, be able to do exactly what her magic needs is that Totomaru guy that was part of Phantom Lord."
With a sigh Cana shook her head.
"I can't let you do that alone. I mean yeah the guild will understand the reasoning behind it, but the master and I are probably the only two that would even think to trust you with her."
The Doctor however had to cut in.
"Not that I don't appreciate your choice to look after her, I can't let you leave just yet. As far as we know she is healthy, but I'd prefer if she were here for a day or two so I can make sure. Not to mention it's getting late and your companion here could certainly use a good nights rest."
The moment he was done speaking the little girl let out a yawn and started to drift off to sleep in Natsu's arms. With a soft smile he moved towards the other hospital bed that was in the room. As he stepped in, they saw that he had a bassinet as well.
Gently putting the baby in the carrying basket he place it on the bed. Then in a quiet voice he spoke up.
"Right, well, why don't you, Happy, and I step out and let these two get some rest."
The blue cat would have offered his standard 'Aye!' as a cheer, but Happy was smart enough not to make too much noise and risk waking the baby. As they moved towards the door Natsu looked over to Cana.
"We have to talk later."
Cana nodded to him before waving him away.
As they walked out into the hallway, Natsu held his hand up, silencing the doctor that was about to speak to him. The Fire Dragon Slayer had already made up his mind about what was going to happen. In a calm tone he turned towards the blue cat.
"Happy I need you to do me a huge favor."
"What do you need Natsu?"
Natsu offered a soft smile to his friend as he spoke.
"I need you to take a message to gramps. Explain about the baby and how I've decided the best place for the little one is with us and Fairy Tail, where there are people capable of helping her learn about her magic safely. But I need you to tell him it'll be a few days before we return. On top of staying here for a day or so, just so the doctors can make sure she's perfectly healthy, I need to make a personal stop in the forest where gramps and I first met. If he doesn't understand why, just shrug and say that I'll explain when we return."
Happy was silent for a moment as he tried to memorize the message he had to relay. After a couple minutes the cat nodded.
"Aye sir!"
Sending the blue cat off with a smile, Natsu turned back towards the doctor.
"I can see now that though your reputation precedes you it isn't exactly correct. Oh, before I forget, I'm Daniel Oathsbel."
The doctor said with a grin as he stuck his hand out to shake Natsu's hand as he properly introduced himself. Natsu chuckled as he griped the mans hand firmly.
"Let's just say I enjoy being carefree and idiotic because it means I get in more fights."
He responded not really giving a proper explanation.
"Ah, you're an adrenaline junky. Makes sense. Anyway, I just wanted to ask, do you know what is going on with that little girls magic? I mean I heard your explanation to your friend, but do you fully understand what's happening?"
"Yeah. It's a bit erratic right now as her magic was only partially activated. Wyvern's emit enough magic on their own to force a magic user to unlock their magic if it hasn't already happened, which is what started to happen with her. But she was taken out of the situation quickly enough that it didn't fully set in. Which is why a powerful fire magic user needs to be nearby. Her magic won't fully activate unless it's exposed to a similar level of fire magic."
"And her magic needs to fully awaken in order for her to ever be able to learn to control it. You are one of the few people that can help her in this instance."
"Yup. As I said the only other possible option was a member of Phantom Lord before they disbanded, and even then I'm not sure if he is strong enough. Whoever the Fire magic user is, they have to at least be as strong as that wyvern was, otherwise it'll just make the situation worse."
Daniel nodded as he accepted Natsu's answer. It wasn't exactly common knowledge, but most magical doctors knew about the few magical creatures that could forcefully awaken a persons magic with their presence, so he knew it to be true. Not to mention the fact he was correct about the strength level needing to be similar too.
"There are other reasons, but I won't share them as they're quite personal."
Natsu commented, though he also left out the fact that some of them were also due to being a Dragon Slayer. After all there were some things he couldn't talk about outside of certain circles. Daniel had looked at him weirdly for the comment, but he didn't say anything else.
After a moment Daniel began to walk away saying he was going to check in on his other patients. Before he got too far however he looked back over his shoulder.
"If you need a place to rest but don't want to go too far from your friend or the baby then you can ask any of us on the staff here to move another bed into the room."
"No need. Things are probably going to be hectic around here thanks to this, so I'll make do with the visitor's chairs."
Natsu replied as he re-entered the room.
