"Hello there, I'm the Doctor..."
When the Doctor spoke those words to Yua, the lung girl felt an unbelievable amount of emotions; she could not think straight. She couldn't even determine how she was feeling right now, as she was going through such a whirlwind, her mind a calamity of its own.
She wanted to laugh...
She wanted to wail...
She wanted to scream...
She wanted to shout...
Whatever she felt or wanted to do, one thing was for certain. Her father was here.
Right before her eyes...
The man who she hadn't seen in nearly a decade was standing mere feet away from her. Like with Hoshiguma a day prior, she wanted to run up and hug the man in front of her. Unlike Hoshiguma, however, this desire was much harder to control; she felt the desire to do so increase with each passing second she looked at the man. Deep down, she knew she couldn't, as she would jeopardize her mission.
Due to her struggle to choose between embracing her father and protecting her mission, all Yua could do was stand completely still; her head and heart were battling for dominance. The Doctor noticed this and asked the girl, "Are you okay miss?"Yua barely registered what he had said to her. She was still in no state to effectively communicate with the man.
Seeing that the girl was going through a huge internal crisis, the Doctor said to her, "Do you want to talk about this at another time? You can always speak with me again when you feel more up to it." Yua thought to herself, "That's exactly what my father would say to me whenever I was upset." Steeling herself, Yua replied to the man, "No, sir. I am fine talking with you right now."
"Right, well as I just said before, I am the Doctor, and I am also the commander of our operators out in the field who take part in operations on behalf of Rhodes Island." The Doctor continued, "I have been informed by Doctor Kal'tsit that you will be a new operator for us, is that correct?" Yua replied, "Yes sir, I want to join Rhodes Island, I want to help others."
The Doctor nodded at this, he then said "That is what I like to hear, many operators have come here for different reasons, but the reason I like to hear is that they want to help those in need." He continued "I am glad that we have someone aboard who is so young and willing to do that; so, on behalf of Rhodes Island, I welcome you." The man finished.
Getting any sort of praise from the man was causing Yua to nearly break down; she was struggling to keep herself together, but she was just about holding her nerve. The doctor then told Yua, "Well, I have to go now and sort through the reports of our recent relief operation. I look forward to working with you, Miss Yua." The man then turned away and started walking back to his office. Seeing the man turn away, Yua was thinking, "Please don't go…I want to see you again," and she was holding out her arm and reaching out to him.
Realizing what she was doing, Yua quickly brought her arm back to her side; she hoped nobody had seen her. However, Doctor Kal'tsit was still there and did see what Yua did. Yua then noticed Doctor Kal'tsit's presence and realized she was seen. With an unreadable look on her face, Kal'tsit looked at Yua and then walked away to catch up with the Doctor. The only thought going through the young girl's mind was "Oh no!"
When Doctor Kal'tsit brought the Doctor down to the entrance of the landship, she wanted to see how the new operator Yua would react to him, to see if she was a threat. Kal'tsit did not expect, however, for the girl to react the way she did; it wasn't like that of an enemy, but more like it was as though she hadn't seen a loved one in a very long time.
Kal'tsit thought to herself, "That was strange, why did she react like that? Does she have a history with the Doctor?" Seeing that there was definitely more than what met the eye with her, Kal'tsit was glad that Red would carry on observing Yua. "At least if she does try to harm the doctor, Red should be able to stop her," Kal'tsit decided that it wasn't a major issue for the moment and decided to catch up with the doctor, as they had a lot of paperwork to deal with.
With Yua she was now being led to an examination room by Doctor Gavial, after both her father and Doctor Kal'tsit left she was approached by the archosaurian and told that she would be taking her examination. Upon entering the examination room Yua was hit with a strong smell of disinfectant, a smell she was used to in the future, when she was old enough; she was finally able to become an operator in her own timeline, but that was only by having everyone eventually convincing her mother. She remembered the injuries she sustained fighting the Seaborn.
Doctor Gavial instructed her to strip off her uniform; Yua did so, as she was conducting a physical examination. Gavial thought to herself, "This girl has been through a lot; those scars are pretty horrible, and they don't look like they were caused by normal weapons." Feeling self-conscious, Yua brought her arms around herself, knowing that Doctor Gavial could see her old wounds and would likely ask some very uncomfortable questions.
Thankfully, no questions were asked and Yua could then put her uniform back on. She was then given a blood test which showed a negative for infection. Finally, Yua was given an eye and hearing test which she passed. After the examination, Gavial told Yua, "Congratulations, you have completed your medical exam; you are now an official Rhodes Island operator."
Yua was ecstatic by this news! She was now an official operator. Gavial then told Yua, "I will send these results to Doctor Kal'tsit. Someone is coming to collect you to take you to your new room; also tomorrow, instructor Dobermann will take you through a combat exam to see what level you are at and see what training you will need."
Yua remembered the perro instructor; she was harsh but an incredible teacher. If it weren't for some of the lessons she received from her, Yua doubted she would have survived as long as she had fighting the Seaborn. Hearing a knock at the door, Gavial went to answer it. When she opened it, she saw a tall green-haired Oni.
"Hey Gavial, just come on over and pick up Yua; I'll take her to her room." Hoshiguma entered the office and saw Yua. She informed her, "Yua, Doctor Kal'tsit told me to come pick you up again. Our rooms are near each other, so she thought it would be best if I took you there." Yua appreciated the familiarity of having someone she knew escorting her. She thanked Gavial for her help before leaving the office.
On the way to her room, Yua thought, "Why did Doctor Kal'tsit send Hoshiguma to take me around? Does she not trust me? Has she told Hoshiguma to keep an eye on me?" Her thoughts were broken by Hoshiguma stopping in front of a door. "Here is your room, Yua," she said. "Just a few doors down is my room; if you have any problems, come and see me." Yua thanked Hoshiguma for showing her to the room and then watched as the green-haired oni walked away to go to her own room.
When the lung girl entered her own room, it was completely white - everything from the walls to the shower room. Looking around in a cupboard, Yua could see some Rhodes Island uniforms and sleepwear. "I will need to change my own uniform; it's starting to fall apart," she thought to herself. Deciding that she needed a shower, Yua took off her uniform and grabbed a towel she saw in the cupboard. After her shower, she changed into sleepwear and got into bed.
Yua was thinking about today. She recalled the meeting with her father and how taxing it was on her emotions. She genuinely felt like she was going to have a mental breakdown; it was too much seeing him again after so long. Yua then thought about how she would react seeing her mother and Swire again. She doubted it would be as emotional as seeing her father, but she knew she had to steel herself; she couldn't give anything away.
Yua's eyes grew heavy as she felt tired from today; before falling asleep, she glanced at her locket, a new ritual for her. After looking inside and closing the locket, she placed it on the bedside table. Remembering she had a combat exam tomorrow, she knew she needed a good night's sleep. Finally, Yua closed her eyes and fell asleep, hoping that the nightmares wouldn't torment her tonight.
