Chapter Six.

"Are you out of your mind?" Ratchet shouted, as Wheeljack stood before the rest of the Autobots, all of them glaring at him.

None of them were happy about his involvement in Miko's little after school stunt, courtesy of a very irate Arcee. The blue femme looking at him with narrowed optics. While Wheeljack rolled his own, and turned to where Miko was being tended to by June once more. The nurse glaring at Miko, who would occasionally wince and pull away as she had her wounds patched up.

"Are you listening?" Ratchet snarled.

Wheeljack turned back to the old medic. "Would I look so bored if I wasn't?" He drawled.

"Jackie." Bulkhead spoke up, moving towards him.

Wheeljack sighed, "Okay, okay, I get it totaling that kids car wasn't what we're supposed to do. But, what was I just supposed sit there while Miko got in trouble. All while the little scrap eater got away scot-free? That just didn't sit right with me." He said.

Ratchet sighed, stepping forward, hands on his hips as he looked to the wrecker. "What you did could have drawn unwanted attention to us. And that is the last thing we need."

"Don't worry." Wheeljack said, looking to Miko once more. A pang of sympathy forming in his chest, as he looked at her. "As far as this Vince guy knows I'm just a friend of Miko's helping her out."

"And what would you have done if he had found out?" Arcee asked, taking a step towards Wheeljack.

Wheeljack heaved a sigh. "Then if that did happen we'd have some disrespectful jerk to look after. If the kid survived our meeting that is. You know, I'm still getting my bearings on this mudball."

Silence permeated throughout the base.

"Dude," Miko said, as June stepped away from her. "That's cold."

The corner of Wheeljack's mouthplate turned upwards at her comment. "And before any of you get on my case," he added. "I was just kidding." And with that he turned on his heel, and walked off, the rest of Team Prime watching as he disappeared down the hall.

No doubt wanting to be left alone.

Miko watched as Wheeljack disappeared around the corner, before looking to the others. Surprised to see Arcee standing before her, arms crossed, a disapproving frown on her faceplate. Oh, great, Miko thought, rolling her eyes once more. Just what I need a lecture.

"My head hurts." Miko spoke before Arcee could get a word out. "Can we hold off the nagging at least until later. I wanna lie down."

As Miko said this, she walked past Arcee, and up the stairs where Jack and Raf were.

"Really?" Arcee said. "Because I think we should-"

"Look!" Miko snapped, turning to face Arcee. "I already got nagged by my teacher after that fight, and I'm pretty sure when I get home I'll get one from my Host Parents. So, please Arcee give me a break." And with that Miko plopped down on the couch, arms crossed, eyes narrowed.

Arcee stood there, mouth agape as she looked at the girl before finally turning away, silence falling over the base once more, as Miko stared down at her feet. And then looked to Raf.

"You okay?" she asked softly.

Raf nodded, offering her a small smile. "Thanks." Raf said.

"You, uh, do know that you just put yourself on Vince's shit list now, right?" Jack asked.

Miko looked to him, eyebrow arched. "You mean I wasn't already on his shit list? Funny, I thought that anyone that wasn't a spoiled rich kid like him was on the shit list." She said, leaning back in her seat, arms behind her head.

Jack thought for a moment, then shrugged. "You got a point there." He said, and took a seat beside her, blue eyes focused on the girl as she closed her eyes.

It was funny, the girl thought, strands of hair falling into her face. Even when they weren't fighting the Decepticons there was always something exciting going on. Especially when it came to Wheeljack. Running a hand through her hair, she sighed as she looked to Jack.

"So. How do you think poor Vince is going to get from place to place from now on?"

Jack thought for a moment. "Maybe he'll get his mommy to drive him to school."

"Or even worst," Raf chimed in. "He'll be forced to take public transit."

That got a laugh out of the three kids, the tension that had been lingering around them since they arrived finally breaking.

"I wouldn't be surprised if you what you did ended up being the talk of the school for a while." Jack said, placing a hand on Miko shoulder.

Miko groaned. That was exactly what she needed, to be the center of attention at had worked hard to not be noticed in that place. So, Miko hoped Jack was wrong, leave the attention crap to someone that thrived on something like that. Like Sierra or any other guy or girl in school.

"I hope you're wrong." She said. "It's bad enough I'll be in trouble come tomorrow. And probably for a long while."

Jack looked to Miko once more, obviously she was beginning to regret her actions, he decided to chalk that up to the first time that ever happened. Silence once again fell over the trio of humans.

When Rad spoke once more. "So, uh, anyone up for some videogames?" he asked.

Seeing that there was nothing else to do the three humans agreed.

Finally, some peace and quiet. Wheeljack thought, as he sat in his quarters, laying on her berth, optics trained on the ceiling. His hands resting behind his head. Images of what had happened at the kids school replaying in his mind. However, he was soon jerked from his thoughts when someone knocked on his door.

Great, so much for peace and quiet. He thought, as he got to his feet, and headed to his door. Opening it he was greeted by Arcee. Rolling his optics, as she walked past him, and into his room.

"Something you need?" Wheeljack asked.

Arcee turned to look at him, Wheeljack suppressing the urge to groan as he saw the same disapproving frown on her faceplate. And here he thought he was done being nagged at. But, apparently Arcee wasn't done.

"What now?" he asked, arms crossed over his chestplate.

"You walked off before we could finish our little conversation." Arcee said.

Wheeljack rolled his optics once more. "Don't you mean nag?" He grumbled, as he turned away from her.

Arcee's optics narrowed, as she moved around to face him. "You know you weren't supposed to do what you did back at the school." She growled, as Wheeljack moved away from her once more.

Moving to his desk, and plopping down in his seat. Intent on busying himself with some project, maybe something that would help him drown out the sound of Arcee's nagging. Don't get him wrong, Wheeljack respected the femme. Hell, he respected all the Autobots. Bulkhead most of all, and hey the femme currently standing at his side? She was pretty good too. A formidable fighter, and hey, she wasn't too bad on the optics. And she would totally be his type, if another female didn't occupy his mind. Giving his head a shake he finally turned to Arcee.

"I don't see what the problem is. That Vince guy was a jerk, and in all honesty? He started it."

"So you attack the guy?" Arcee asked.

"I didn't attack him, and if I did I'd be scraping him off the bottom of my foot." Wheeljack smirked. "All I did was total his car, and maybe make him cry. And, I'm sure the kid is just fine if not a little shaken up. Besides, from what I understand is this Vince guy is a jerk to everyone including Jack. Surely, you never entertained the thought of doing something to defend his honor?"

"I already did, we raced, and we kicked his freckled butt, end of story." Arcee said.

Wheeljack chuckled, the corner of his mouthplate turning upwards a little. "Then I guess you and I aren't so different."

Arcee was silent. "Just," she sighed. "Try not to make a scene next time? The last thing any of us needs someone finding out what we are."

"And how do you think that would happen? I was in vehicle mode the whole time." He sighed.

"True," Arcee added. "But you never know, and if I'm being honest? I think the last thing we need or the kids need is someone like Vince joining Team Prime, or something." At that the two of them shuddered.

Offering Arcee another crooked Wheeljack offered he a two fingered salute, as the femme walked out of the room. Leaving Wheeljack alone once more.

Jack couldn't but cheer as Miko let out a groan as he once again beat her. Thus retaining his long standing victory over the girl. A wide grin on his face, as he watched as Miko dropped the controller onto the couch with a huff, and get to her feet. Her arms crossed over her chest, as she glared at him.

"You know, you only won because of this." Miko said, gesturing to her blackened eye.

At this Jack rolled his eyes. "Puh-lease." He sighed. "You come up with an excuse every single time I beat you. Just admit it, you're just no match for me."

Honey colored eyes narrowed into slits as Miko glared at him. And as she looked at him, Jack felt something form in his chest. Jack blinked at it, his eyes still glued on Miko. Well, this was new, he thought as he worried at his bottom lip. He never felt this way for... well, he chewed on his bottom lip once more as he considered it. Aside for Sierra, and she never really gave him the time of day. And now he seemed to be having these feelings for Miko?! He looked away as Miko quit her grumbling, and walked away.

Maybe he was just worried for her. She did get quite a beating, so maybe he was just worried he tried to tell himself. Nodding he moved to sit on the couch once more. Intent on squashing this odd feeling deep down. His gaze going to where Miko stood, watching as she tossed her hair over her shoulder, that same weird flutter returning in his chest once more. Forcing Jack to tear his gaze away from the girl. Maybe he was coming down with something. Yeah, that had to be it, like he couldn't be crushing on Miko of all people. Okay, that sounded rude but still. Miko and him were nothing but friends, so there shouldn't be any feelings like this.

Eyes narrowed Jack grabbed the game controller once more, intent on playing another round in hopes of getting of these odd thoughts. For all he knew he was just feeling affection for the spunky girl, after all she did get messed up protecting Raf, so maybe that was it? Nodding to himself he focused on his game, thoughts of Miko soon gone from his mind.

Her face hurt. Miko thought with a slight whine, her fingers brushing against her bruised cheek, pain radiating from it. The small Tylenol June had given her was rattling around in her pocket, the temptation to take one was tempting, but no, she could handle the pain. She was tough, she could handle anything. Well... almost anything. Miko stood at the railing watching as Ratchet absentmindedly worked on something she couldn't wrap her head around if she tried. She'd leave Ratchet's overly complicated explanations for Raf thank you very much. Her thoughts for once in her life were not about the Autobots, at least not of Wheeljack and Bulkhead.

For Miko had a new problem. Her problem? Was how she was going to deal with school tomorrow. Almost all of the school had seen her little scuffle with Vince, hell her blood as well as his probably stained the steps that lead to the school. And something told her, that all eyes would be on her the moment she walked through the doors. If she didn't get suspended. No doubt her Host Parents had found out about her stunt by now. Speaking of Host Parents, reaching into her pocket she pulled out her phone. Seeing five missed calls, and several unread text messages.

No doubt unless something really important had happened that Miko needed to know about, or they already knew about what happened at school. Great, Miko thought. She was going to be an earful when she got home tonight. Hey, maybe if she asked Ratchet nicely he would let her stay the night? Yeah, right. And though she really hated to admit it she really shouldn't avoid stuff like this. And what was worst they could do? Ground her? They could try, but even her own parents had a hard time grounding her. So, she would like to see them try. And maybe they would listen to reason and let her explain her situation.

Miko shrugged. However, her thoughts of her Host Parents were soon jerked away, as Wheeljack stepped into the room once more. Her heart fluttering as he did, offering her an easy grin as he looked in her direction. Miko waved at him, her face suddenly feeling hot, her cheeks flushing, leaving Miko a little confused as Wheeljack continued to look at her.

"How are you feeling, kid?" He asked.

"Feelin' pretty good, a little sore, but good. By the way thank you for wrecking Vince's car. Bet you made him cry."

At that Wheeljack chuckled. "He started it." He said.

Miko nodded, silence permeating the base once more as the two of them looked away from each other, all while Jack looked on. "And we finished it." She chimed in.

That earned a laugh from Wheeljack. "Hopefully this Vince fella learned a lesson, and will leave you and the kid alone." He said, jerking his head in Raf's direction, as the boy waved at him. Offering the wrecker a smile before turning his attention back to his laptop.

"Kind of wished I had taken a few pictures, but I was too busy making my getaway." Miko said. "Would have love to have a memento of that time, or at least something to rub in his face if he ever got out of line again."

Wheeljack snicker. "Who knows Maybe you'll get your chance Vince doesn't seem like the type to give up either."

At that Jack interjected, walking up to them, seeing the smiles disappearing from their faces as he approached.

"Look, as fun as putting Vince in his place is, I think you should stop while you're ahead. Like Arcee said, the last thing we need in unwanted attention."

Both Miko and Wheeljack looked to Jack, then to each other. Sighing Miko reached over, and placed a hand on Jack's shoulder. That same strange feeling forming in Jack's chest once more, as she smiled up at him.

"Don't you worry, Jack." She told him. "We won't mess with Vince unless he messes with us first." She assured him.

Jack looked at her before walking away. Miko watching as he did so, before looking to Wheeljack more, stifling a yawn as she did so.

"Getting tired, kid?" Wheeljack asked.

Smiling Miko nodded.

"Then how about I take you home?" He offered.

Nodding Miko grabbed her backpack, and jumped into his palm. Wheeljack placed her onto the ground, before transforming and opening his passenger side door. Allowing her to climb in before driving off, leaving Jack to watch the duo.

A pang of jealousy forming in his chest.
