Centurions Practice Field
Grove City, Ohio
The Centurions are practicing yet again, in preparation for the home opener against the San Diego Orcas this coming Thursday. All the players are at their respective areas to practice their positions. The media are also at their areas as well, today is more busy than usual as the Centurions newest acquisition, Running Back Dominic Ranger, started practice today for the team. As of right now, he isn't slated to play the Orcas game due to him learning the playbook, however he is going to be playing their next game, the home game against the Lawmen.
Coach Tyrone Marcus is watching over the offensive side of things at the moment, watching over Dominic and the offensive line run plays. From what he could see, Dominic was a quick learner and if something bad happens to their other back, he could replace him in a pinch, hopefully it would not come to that. He heard a golf cart coming from behind him, but he knew who it was.
Angela Wagner had decided to come out onto the field to see her newest player practice, she steps off the cart, wearing a red Centurions collared shirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes. She walks up beside Coach Marcus and watches the players go through another rep before speaking.
"How's Dominic getting used to the playbook?"
Tyrone nodded his head while still looking over the players.
"Damn good, he's a damn fast learner, if something happens to Lucas Riggs during the Orcas game, he could fill in."
Angela love hearing that, she now was sure her deal for Ranger was worth the risk. She however decided to change the subject.
"While I am here, it's still a little early, but we are eyeing up a quarterback for next year's draft."
This got Tyrone's attention, he turns his head to look over at his boss.
"Who?"
"Franklin Davidson from Michigan State," Angela answered.
Tyrone had heard about him, his junior year with the Spartans was a good one. Managed to get them to the Top Ten but fell short of getting into the collage playoffs. If his memory served him correctly, his playing style was similar to Wexler's, which meant if he was drafted and something happened to Wexler during the season, his style of play would flow good with the offense. Kalvin Skinner was proving himself to be a good scout.
"Sounds good, hopefully nothing happens to him that sinks his stock in the draft."
Angela nodded in agreement, there was always the chance that an injury or a very bad season could see a potential prospect turn into a dud. Soon enough, Angela heard the media calling out her name for a Q & A, she soon said her goodbyes to Tyrone and got back on her golf cart. Her driver knew where to go without saying a word. Once he got close, he stopped the cart and Angela got out again, making her way towards the media that was waiting. Angela said her hellos to them before picking out a female Mexican reporter to be the first one to ask a question.
"You likely heard by now that the Cleveland Steamers are leaving for a new city, what do you have to say about?"
Angela thought for a few moments before answering the question.
"It was inevitable to be honest, losing that many season saps any goodwill of the fans. I'm hoping that the decision where they are going is put off until we can face them. I would like to see a "Battle for Ohio" like game since it looks like the Crusaders are likely going to stay in Division One or Two for the foreseeable future," Angela explained.
She soon picked an African American man in the crowd.
"How is Dominic Ranger working for you guys? Will he be playing the Orcas game this week?"
Angela had the answer that without having to think.
"As of right now, Dominic will not be playing the Orcas game, he is still learning our offensive scheme and needs rep time. However, is something happening to our other backs, the coaches have told me he could be used in a pinch."
She then chose a white man in the crowd for the next question.
"How are you guy's preparing for the Dallas Lawmen, the projected winner of the Division Four championship."
Again, Angela thought out her response.
"It's too early in the season to make predictions. It's been seen throughout the years that heavily favored teams either not have great seasons or lose in the championship game due to overconfidence or lack luster performances. My coaching staff take every game seriously."
The Centurions owner would answer a few more questions before ending the interview and walking back to the golf cart and taking off, needed elsewhere.
Days before Week Two vs San Diego Orcas.
The team have returned to the tape room watching footage of the San Diego Orcas game against the Knoxville Rattlers. Coach Marcus soon explains the plan for the game.
"Alright gentlemen, we're playing the San Diego Orcas this week, and without a shout of the doubt their best player is Free Safety DeAngelo Peoples. He got two interceptions last week against the Rattlers on two crucial drives that kept Knoxville from scoring and winning the game. That means we need to watch out for him if we decide to pass. We're going to pound the ground this game, so the offensive line will need to step up as well as the tight ends and receivers as well."
