As Team Prime and Megatron continued to make their way towards Unicron's Sparks in a dark tunnel, the Decepticon leader suddenly clenched his head in pain as he began to have another vision. It showed cracks of Dark Energon forming in the Earth, Unicron's face and the entire Earth exploding.

"Unicron grows ever stronger." Megatron said before he recovered and began walking ahead of the Autobots.

"How do we know Unicron isn't using Megatron to lead us all into a trap?" Arcee asked quietly.

"We do not." Optimus answered, making the female Autobot bring out her blasters.

"In that case, we'd better be prepared for the worst." Cliffjumper said.

The Autobots soon caught up with Megatron and they continued on their way, not knowing that something was following them from behind.

At the Autobot base, things were still out of control as loads of lighting storms could be heard from outside. The Hexside Squad, Fowler and Camila were watching the news as Ratchet worked at the main console.

"More than sixty volcanoes are erupting worldwide. And downtown Honolulu is under six inches of snow." The anchorman said. "Scientists continue to devise theories connecting these unprecedented natural disasters with the planetary alignment which-"

The TV then shut down and made a long beeping sound, causing silence among everyone in the base.

"So, does anyone want to play a game?" Camila asked, hoping to lighten the mood.

"Mama, now's not a good time for games." Luz replied.

"That tears it!" Fowler stated as he began marching away to the elevator.

"Where are you going?" Camila questioned.

"I can't just sit on my hands while the world spins out of control." Fowler stated.

"And what exactly is it that you intend to do?" Ratchet asked.

"Anything! Hook up with my boys at the Pentagon. Figure out a way to bury that monster for good." Fowler replied.

"In the event Optimus can't?" Ratchet questioned again.

"Don't you mean Optimus and Megatron?" Fowler reminded.

"No one here is thrilled about this arrangement, Agent Fowler. Myself included." Ratchet admitted. "But with Optimus and Megatron together again…"

"Hold on. Again?" Amity repeated, sounding very surprised.

"Megatron was an Autobot?" Hunter asked.

"Optimus was a Decepticon?" Willow questioned.

"No, on either count. But there was a time, back on Cybertron in the twilight hours of the Golden Age, when Optimus and Megatron were not sworn enemies." Ratchet said as he began to tell the tale of how the Cybertronian War first began. "Do you recall when I mentioned that Optimus wasn't always a Prime? Well he wasn't always Optimus, either. He was once a clerk in the Iacon Hall of Records, named Orion Pax. But as he learned more about Cybertron's past, he grew increasingly concerned about the present corruption in high places inequality among the masses. Orion became inspired by the words and ideals of a gladiator. One who had names himself after one of the thirteen original Primes. Megatronus. Megatronus vowed to challenge Cybertron's leadership and demand that all Cybertronians be treated as equals. This gladiator turned revolutionary rapidly gathered a loyal following, Soundwave chief among them. Orion began corresponding with Megatronus, who came to be something of a mentor to him. As Megatronus left the gladiatorial arena for the political, he saw fit to shorten his name. Before long, Megatron appeared before the high council to propose his vision for a just society. And it was here that he began to revel his true colours, proclaiming the need to overthrow the old guard with force and arrogantly demanding to be named the next Prime. But Orion did not believe in violence as a means of achieving justice. The Sparks and minds of the council were moved by Orion's words. Here, for the first time since Cybertron's Golden Age, stood someone worthy of being a Prime. But that honour could only truly be achieved by earning the legendary Matrix of Leadership. His ambitions thwarted, Megatron spitefully severed all ties with Orion and the council, and came to wage war on all who opposed him through his growing army of followers which he named Decepticons. He vowed to claim the Matrix for himself, wherever it might lie. In time, warfare consumed Cybertron, poisoning the planet to it's core. Orion journeyed there, hoping to reverse the I'll effects, and found himself before the very Spark of our life giver, Primus himself. The ailing Primus sensed the unique nobility within Orion and bestowed the Matrix upon him. It was thus that a surprised and humbled Orion Pax came to be… Optimus, the last of the Primes."

"Wow. That's some story." Gus said softly, showing the same amazed expression as his friends.

"Optimus used to be an ordinary person. But now, he's the bravest and selfless person I've ever known." Vee commented.

"So, Optimus got the Matrix from Cybertron's core and now he's gonna give it to Earth's?" Willow asked.

"What's to stop Megatron from claiming the Matrix for himself, this time?" Luz questioned.

"Only his greater desire to save this planet so that he may in turn conquer it, as he so compellingly argued." Ratchet replied. "Provided the lord of the Decepticons can ever be fully trusted."

Back with Team Prime and Megatron, they had arrived at the cave's exit and saw another open area in front of them.

"Unicron's Spark is near." Megatron said.

"After you, bucket-head." Jazz replied, gesturing to the bridge in front of them.

Megatron walked along the bridge with the Autobots following behind, but then Bulkhead began to groan and clutch his head in a slightly weak way.

"Are you okay, Bulk?" Bumblebee asked in concern.

"You're not looking good, pal." Wheeljack admitted.

"I'm fine, guys. Just woozy." Bulkhead replied.

"How come?" Jazz questioned.

"The Dark Energon. It's starting to effect him." Arcee realised before she, Bumblebee and Wheeljack began helping the dark green Wrecker walk. "Steady as you go, Bulk."

Just then, Megatron stopped in his tracks as his Decepticon symbol began to glow, causing Optimus to do the same thing.

"He's preparing to expel us." Megatron said before they all started to hear some screeching noises.

When the Autobots looked to the sides, they saw a bunch of flying Cybertronian creatures with purple optics flying towards them with the intent to kill.

"What are those things?" Jazz asked as he and the other Bots brought out their blasters.

"As we are within Unicron's body, it stands to reason they are some sort of anti-body." Optimus theorised, getting his blasters ready.

When the creatures began soaring down to the Autobots and Megatron, they all immediately opened fire and managed to shoot down most of them. The creatures fired their own lasers at their targets and caused them to shield themselves from the shots before Optimus sliced one of the creatures in half with his blade. Another creature attempted to tackle Arcee, but the female Autobot leaped over it and blasted the creature before falling down from the bridge. She used her wrist blades to slice right through a creature and landed on another bridge. Wheeljack managed to shoot down three creatures and then placed both his blasters away, pulling out his swords and leaping off the bridge himself. The swordsman Wrecker was able to land ontop of a creature and he jabbed his swords into it, using them as steering tools and making the creature blast many more in the air.

"Yee-haw!" Wheeljack yelled enthusiastically, jumping off the creature and making it explode into a wall before landing beside his teammates.

However, Bulkhead was beginning to feel weak from the Dark Energon effect as his vision was all purple and blurry. He stumbled near the edge and suddenly fell off it before quickly grabbing it to keep himself from falling.

"Bulk!" Wheeljack exclaimed in worridness.

"Hold on! We're coming!" Bumblebee stated before the two of them rushed up to Bulkhead and grabbed his hand before he could fall down, while the others continued to fend off the creatures.

"Bee, Jackie, let me go! I'll only take you down with me!" Bulkhead told them.

"I didn't leave you in the battle of Gygax, Bulk, and I'm not leaving you now!" Wheeljack stated in determination.

As Jazz and Cliffjumper handled the creatures in their current positions, Optimus and Megatron were taking them down simultaneously with great skills while covering each other's blind spots in the process. They shot the creatures down and sliced them apart before getting back-to-back with each other, moving away from an incoming shot. As Arcee destroyed some creatures on the lower bridge, she looked up to see Bumblebee and Wheeljack losing their grip on Bulkhead.

"Come on, not now!" Wheeljack grunted.

"Just let go, you two!" Bulkhead stated as his hand slipped from them.

"Bulkhead!" Arcee called out worriedly.

Just when Bumblebee and Wheeljack lost their grip on Bulkhead, Optimus immediately grabbed him and pulled him back up to the bridge.

"I've got you." Optimus assured before he and the others blasted some creatures away and began running towards the other side of the bridge.

Arcee was slicing apart some creatures with her wrist blades and kicking them away.

"Arcee! We've gotta go!" Cliffjumper called out, earning her attention.

"I've got her, Cliff!" Jazz replied before shooting his energy grapple at Arcee.

The female Autobot was able to catch it and Jazz used all of his strength to pull her up. Arcee was able to land on the bridge and she joined the others in making it into the next tunnel, with the creatures pursuing them into it.

Meanwhile on the Nemesis, Airachnid was addressing all of the Decepticons as Soundwave was busy at the main terminal, while Thundercracker, Skywarp, Brawl, Knock Out, Breakdown and Wildrider were standing at the back.

"Fellow Decepticons, while our loyalty to Megatron's command has always remained steadfast, our leader's recent behaviour has been questionable at best. And it would seem as though Earth has become nothing short of a failed experiment." Airachnid explained as the main screen was showing all the anomalies happing on Earth.

"Commander Airachnid, you're not suggesting that we abandon Lord Megatron?" Knock Out asked.

"I don't think he'd be very happy about that." Wildrider admitted. "Am I right?"

"Probably." Breakdown said.

"Despite Soundwave's efforts, we have been unable to detect our master's signal." Airachnid replied, gesturing to the communication Decepticon. "Megatron is either permanently offline or in the thrall of Unicron. Neither is in the best interest of the Decepticons. So I am deeming an exodus to be the most prudent course of action. Unless anyone has a problem with that."

All of the Vehicons muttered to each other and didn't seem to have any objections, making Airachnid smirk victoriously.

"Set course for Regulon Four." Airachnid ordered.

But suddenly, Soundwave stomped away from the terminal and faced down Airachnid, showing that he wasn't willing to leave his master on this planet.

"You have something to say, Soundwave?" Airachnid questioned the screen-faced Decepticon, who said nothing to her as she activated her spider form. "I command this vessel. You will resume your post."

Soundwave and Airachnid glared at each other as the rest of the Decepticons simply watched from the sidelines.

"Step aside!" Airachnid ordered.

When she was once again met with silence, Airachnid charged at Soundwave and attacked him with her spider legs, only for Soundwave to block each of them without any effort. He then grabbed Airachnid and lifted her up, his long arm keeping her spider legs from reaching him.

"Oh." Knock Out muttered with an amused smirk.

"I'm enjoying this." Brawl chuckled.

Soundwave tossed Airachnid away and she crashed against the platform, slowly getting back up.

"I'll tear out your Spark for that!" Airachnid stated angrily.

However, she was surprised to see Laserbeak was not on Soundwave's torso anymore and she turned around to see the Minicon drone flying from behind. Laserbeak fired some laser shots at Airachnid and the female Spider Con attempted to avoid them, but one of the shots managed to hit her and she crashed back down with a painful shout as sparks emitted from her body. Soundwave pressed his foot down on Airachnid when she attempted to get up before Laserbeak returned to his torso.

"I yield." Airachnid said in defeat.

Soundwave walked away from the female Spider Con to continue his work, while the other six Decepticons were left surprised by how easily he won.

"Did Soundwave really…" Thundercracker began asking.

"It sure looks that way." Skywarp said.

"Watch out for for the quiet ones." Knock Out quipped.

In the base, Ratchet was unable to detect any of Team Prime's signatures on the main console.

"Communication links are down, as expected." Ratchet said. "But we've lost their signal."

"Doesn't that mean…" Amity began to ask in worridness.

"Usually. But a more likely explanation would be the severe interference caused by these electromagnetic anomalies." Ratchet replied assuringly.

"So if we can't track them and they can't contact us…" Vee said, looking a little concerned.

"How are we gonna know when they're ready for pick-up?" Gus asked.

"All we can do is just wait." Hunter admitted.

"Let's just hope they'll all be alive when this is over." Willow muttered while rubbing her arm.

The group then heard a tapping noise nearby and they turned towards Luz, who was resting her arms on the metal fence and tapping the metallic device that Optimus gave her against it. While the Hexside Squad weren't very interested, Ratchet was very surprised to see what Luz was holding.

"Where did you get that?" Ratchet asked in astonishment.

"Optimus gave it to me. But, I still don't know why he'd want to give me the key to the Ground Bridge power supply." Luz admitted.

"Luz, there is no key to the Ground Bridge." Ratchet replied, much to the Hispanic girl's surprise.

"No? Then, what is this?" Luz asked as she looked at the device.

"That is the Key to Vector Sigma." Ratchet answered.

"The what?" Luz questioned confusingly.

"You are holding one of Cybertron's most important relics." Ratchet said.

"What? Then, I shouldn't be holding this." Luz proclaimed, attempting to hand the key over to Ratchet.

"Optimus entrusted it to you, Luz." Ratchet told her.

"But that doesn't make any sense. Why?" Luz asked.

"Because he doesn't plan on coming back." Ratchet realised solemnly.

Back in the core of Earth, the Autobots and Megatron continued to shoot down all the Dark Energon creatures that attacked them. The team soon reached a wider room and began blasting the creatures in different areas, while Megatron smashed one into the ground and used his blade to slice apart another. But then, the Decepticon leader's eyes widened as he began to hear Unicron in his mind.

"Megatron, do as I command. Destroy the Prime." Unicron's voice ordered as the background was showing the ancient Cybertronian god himself behind Megatron.

Megatron cried out as he collapsed onto the ground, which Optimus immediately saw.

"Megatron!" Optimus said in concern as his long-time foe clenched his head in pain.

Megatron then moved Optimus away and blasted an incoming creature into pieces.

"Unicron's Spark lies just beyond!" Megatron stated, pointing to a door behind him and the Autobots.

"How do we get inside?" Optimus asked.

"By fooling Unicron's defences into believing we're not a threat." Megatron answered as his Decepticon symbol began to glow.

As the Autobots held back the creatures with their weapons, Megatron held his glowing symbol up to the door and some purple cracks formed on it before opening up for the Decepticon leader. Optimus looked behind him to see Megatron walking into the tunnel and knew what he now needed to do.

"Autobots, I will need you to keep our attackers at bay for as long as you can." Optimus told his teammates before he rushed into the door to meet up with Megatron, causing it to close up.

"You got it, Prime!" Jazz replied with a nod as he and the others kept firing at the creatures.

"We've gotta hold fast!" Cliffjumper stated.

"For Optimus!" Bulkhead added.

(Linebreak)

As Optimus ran his way through the tunnel, he soon made his way out and met up with Megatron, who was staring at something bright. Optimus followed his gaze to see a giant purple orb of dark energy, the Spark of Unicron.

"Optimus, swiftly!" Megatron instructed.

Optimus nodded in response and began approaching Unicron's spark. However, the Spark began to shake violently and released a wave of energy that made Optimus kneel down with a painful grunt. When the same wave hit Megatron, Unicron was once again speaking into his head.

"Megatron, destroy the Prime. I command you." Unicron ordered sternly.

As Megatron's optics began to emit dark energy, he brought out his blade and began approaching Optimus. The Autobot leader grunted as he struggled to get up, while Megatron stood behind him and prepared to thrust his blade into him. But then, Megatron was able to regain his free will and grabbed his arm before he could kill Optimus.

"Megatron is commanded by no one!" Megatron shouted before he fell to his knees and cried out in agony, struggling to resist Unicron's influence.

On the Earth's surface, the whole area began shaking as the Hexside Squad, Ratchet, Fowler and Camila couch feel it in the base.

"What's going on, now?!" Gus asked fearfully.

"Earthquake!" Fowler exclaimed.

"Take cover!" Ratchet stated before shielding the kids and their Palismen.

"Come on, Optimus. You have to save us." Luz whispered in a worried tone.

(Linebreak)

Unicron's Spark was now showing his eyes and mouth as Megatron collapsed to the floor, while Optimus was staying strong.

"Matrix of Leadership, I call upon you!" Optimus announced as the Matrix was beginning to glow within him.

Suddenly, Megatron stood back up and his body was letting out a lot of dark energy.

"You cannot defeat me, disciple of Primus. I have transcended physical being." Unicron/Megatron declared in triumph. "By my will alone, all upon this world shall fall into chaos!"

"Not while I still function, Unicron!" Optimus replied before he managed to fully stand up. "The power of the Matrix will light our darkest hour!"

"NO!" Unicron shouted, trying to shoot Optimus.

As loads of blue energy began to surround Optimus, the Autobot leader then fired a beam from the Matrix straight at Unicron's Spark and it began doing a great deal of damage to the ancient Cybertronian god. The resulting blast wave sent Megatron flying back as Optimus continued to stand on his feet and release all of the Matrix's energy before it was all gone and he fell down. Unicron yelled out in pain before the Matrix energy consumed his very Spark and he faded away.

(Linebreak)

The Autobots were still blasting the Dark Energon creatures before they all suddenly went offline and collapsed into a big pile, allowing the Bots to put their weapons and relax for a bit.

"Looks like Optimus did it." Wheeljack sighed in relief.

"He sure did." Arcee agreed.

(Linebreak)

At the same time, the volcanos stopped erupting, the tornados went away, the giant waves of water disappeared, and the skies cleared up. Ratchet was still shielding his human/witch allies until he felt the shaking go away, moving away from the others as they all stood up.

"Do you think there could be aftershocks?" Camila asked.

"I don't know, Mrs Noceda. It all feels okay now." Willow admitted.

"Ratchet, do you think…" Luz started asking.

"I do." Ratchet answered.

Everyone then saw the main console reactivate and it showed all the Autobots with full-life signs, making the Hexside Squad cheer in happiness.

"Yes!" Fowler remarked before he surprisingly hugged Camila, much to her surprise before he quickly backed away in embarrassment.

(Linebreak)

Soundwave had finally managed to detect Megatron's life sign and began using the main terminal to lock onto his coordinates for a Ground Bridge.

(Linebreak)

Back inside the Earth's core, Optimus was laying on the ground with a lot of smoke radiating from his body while Megatron recovered and clenched his head in exhaustion. The Decepticon leader then turned to Optimus, who was groaning weakly and slowly recovering from using the Matrix's power to destroy Unicron's Spark.

"Teamwork. Hum." Megatron muttered before bringing his blade out.

Optimus lightly opened his eyes and looked up to see Megatron approaching him with the intent to kill him in weakened state. But instead of an act of self-defence or anything else…

"Where are we, Megatronus?" Optimus asked.

Megatron was very surprised to hear this from his long-time foe, until his expression softened a little bit and he placed his blade away before grabbing Optimus' hand, helping him back up.

"Don't you remember, old friend?" Megatron asked.

As Optimus deactivated his mask, he and Megatron began hearing some noises from the door and it suddenly blew open to reveal Arcee, Bulkhead, Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Wheeljack and Jazz coming from it.

"Optimus, are you okay?" Bulkhead asked as he and the others leaped into the room.

"Why did he call me that?" Optimus questioned in confusion, causing the Bots to come to a halt.

"What did you do to him?" Arcee asked Megatron with a glare.

"Who are they?" Optimus asked.

Suddenly, a Ground Bridge appeared behind him and Megatron and the Decepticon leader knew it was for him and his old friend.

"Our mortal enemies!" Megatron stated, looking back at the Autobots.

"Wait, what?" Cliffjumper questioned in disbelief.

"We're outnumbered. Go, I'll cover you." Megatron instructed to Optimus before he started firing his blaster at Team Prime.

The Autobots quickly jumped out of the way as Optimus was running towards the Ground Bridge, only to turn around and take one look at Bumblebee.

"Optimus… no." Bumblebee said with a sad expression.

Not knowing who he was, Optimus ran into the Ground Bridge while Megatron continued to fire at them and ran in after his old friend. The Ground Bridge then closed up before the Autobots could reach it and they all looked on in despair, having just lost their leader to the Decepticons as he apparently had no memory of who he was.

(Linebreak)

At the base, Ratchet activated the Ground Bridge and the Hexside Squad, Fowler and Camila waited in front of it to see if all the Autobots would return. The Hexside Squad then saw their Autobot Guardians walking into the base with their heads down.

"Arcee." Luz said with a relived smile.

"Good to see you, Cliff." Amity remarked.

"I was worried about you, Bulk." Willow commented.

"Me too, Jackie." Gus added.

"Are you alright, Bee?" Hunter asked.

"Welcome back, Jazz." Vee greeted kindly.

"And Optimus?" Ratchet asked in concern. "Is he…"

"Dead? No." Arcee replied.

"But he looked right at us without recognising us." Bulkhead explained.

"Didn't even know his own name." Cliffjumper added.

"And before we knew it, he ran away with Megatron." Wheeljack said with a depressed frown.

"He… did?" Luz asked with a soft gasp.

"But, why?" Amity questioned.

"We don't know, girls." Jazz sighed, but Ratchet had a good theory.

"When Optimus surrendered the Matrix of Leadership, he lost more than the collective wisdom of the Primes." Ratchet said in realisation. "…He lost his own memories."

(Linebreak)

The Nemesis was now flying above the Earth as Megatron had successfully returned to his ship and walked into the main deck. All the other Decepticons, minus Airachnid, were seen waiting for him and they all bowed in respect.

"Welcome back, Lord Megatron." Knock Out greeted.

"We're happy to have you back." Wildrider said with a respectful smile.

When Megatron moved to the side, Optimus then walked into the main deck. The very sight of the Autobot leader made Brawl and Breakdown bring out their respective hammers and they attempted to attack him, only for Megatron to then raise his hand at them.

"At ease, Brawl and Breakdown. That is no way to welcome a long-lost comrade." Megatron said, turning to his old friend as he didn't show any emotion. "Orion Pax… is one of us."
