Author's Notes:
This was supposed to be the last chapter. However, the story had other ideas. It became extremely long and I had to divide it into two sections. I had a hard time finding a good place to stop, so I hope it isn't too awkward. Once again, all reviews are greatly appreciated.
Chapter 6
"We worked him over pretty good yesterday. He didn't give anything up. Who knew he had it in him?" Western said.
"Well you better get something." She walked up to him and looked him straight in the eyes. "You know how long it took us to get here? I am not letting that autistic little twerp upset everything we've been working toward. I want to know everything Vance told him and I don't care how you do it. When you get what we need get rid of them. And I mean ALL of them."
"What about the kid?" He didn't like what he was hearing.
"All means all. She may be a kid, but she can still testify. Now get it done."
Brick House
His first thought was that everything hurt. He tried to reach up to touch his face, but all he managed to do was groan. That got Sarah's attention right away. "Don't try to move. They worked you over pretty good. You were out all night. Probably for the best anyway. At least they left you alone."
"Are you and Jessi alright?" he managed to ask.
"We're fine. After they brought you back, they left and didn't come back. I tried to clean you up as best I could."
"Help me sit up," he groaned. "I didn't tell them anything. They'll be back."
Sarah put a pillow behind his back and he finally sat up. "You're in no shape for a second round."
Rossi and the team were up on a hill about a quarter of a mile away, watching the house through binoculars. "There's one man outside, pacing, but I can't see anyone else. There's a car around back, but that's it."
"Did you ever get a hold of Mr. Western, didn't he want to be in on this?" Luke asked.
"He left early today, I was told. Family problem. We need some good intel. Luke, I need you to go down there and see if you can see anything through the windows. BE CAREFUL! Keep low and let us know what you find."
"Got it. I'm going to circle around the left and check that side window, then sneak into the back yard. I'll call when I have anything."
"JJ", Emily added, "I want you to cover the right side of the house. Radio anything you find."
"Right."
Both got down low, Luke to the left and JJ to the right. They both made a wide circle before approaching the sides of the house so they wouldn't be seen.
Luke slowly and carefully looked around before he approached the house. He crawled along the wall until he was under the window. Then he slowly rose up and looked inside. He saw one man sitting at a table in what was probably the living room, he was armed. He ducked back down, and crawled away from the window toward the back.
Luke reached over and turned on his radio. "Rossi, I have one armed unsub inside. Haven't seen anyone else. I'm heading for the back."
JJ had called in to say she was in position, but hadn't seen anyone yet. She was told to stay put and keep watch.
A car was coming down the street. It was odd because they didn't think any of the houses were occupied. Rossi had eyes on it. It seemed to be slowing down. " Shit, Luke there's a car coming. I think it's coming your way. Find a place to hide and keep a watch out."
" Ten Four" was the only reply.
They watched as he sprinted round the back of the house and hid behind the car that was already there.
The car slowed down in front of the house and pulled into the drive way and then around to the back of the house. One man got out and walked around to the front and knocked on the door. It opened and he went inside.
"Rossi, there was one man. I couldn't see his face. He went around to the front."
"I got him. He went inside. JJ, go around back and back up Luke."
"On my way."
John walked over to the bed. "Just tell me what I want to know and I can stop this. I need to know what Vance told
you."
Sarah ran over and yelled, "Leave him alone. How can you do something like this to someone you know?"
"I need those names Spencer. Think about it. Think about them."
"I did think about it. I"m not stupid, John. Vance gave me more than just names. I put it all on a flash drive and mailed it off. It's my insurance, or my revenge if something should happen to me."
"You're a terrible liar, Spencer. I think I'll just have to come up with some creative ideas, maybe something involving little Jessi over there. Think about it. I'll be back." He left, locking the door behind him.
"No, they wouldn't hurt Jessi, would they? She's just a child. She doesn't know anything. . . ."Then it dawned on her. " But I do. I know where this place is. I wrote it down on a pad in Garcia's office. If they're as smart as they think they are, they should have found it by now. Maybe we'll get rescued."
"They're very smart. But we can't rely on that. I think we'll have to try to get out on our own."
"Any ideas?"
"Not at the moment."
Rossi had the house surrounded. Now that the local police had shown up, he assigned snipers to their posts. It was time to negotiate. He got out his blow horn and called to the people in the house.
"This is the FBI. The house is surrounded. There is no need for anyone to get hurt."
"How did they find us!" John shouted. "Frank take the front, Dean take the back."
He threw open the door and grabbed a hold of Sarah. "Who's out there? How did they find us?"
"I don't know. I did everything you said." He grabbed Sarah's arm and dragged her out the door, locking it behind him. He went over beside the front window, holding Sarah close in front of him. With his back to the wall, he leaned over and looked out the window.
"We have hostages!" He yelled. "Back off!"
"Then let's not get anybody killed. You are surrounded and I don't see anyway out of this. So let's talk about how we can end this peacefully," Rossi answered.
"Oh my God!" Prentiss exclaimed. "We know that voice. That's John Western."
"Our mole! No wonder they were always one step ahead. He was feeding them information. He had access to all the files."
"And we were stupid enough to invite him in on this. I can't believe he would be a part of an organization like this," Prentiss hissed.
"He knows how this works. He knows he'll go to prison or worse. If they find that he was involved in any way with the assassinations of those government officials, they could push for the death penalty. Who knows how he'll react," Rossi explained.
Western was in a panic. He quickly made a call. "The house is surrounded. The FBI is here. Why didn't you warn me?"
"I didn't know. I don't have access to every operation. Now calm down. Anytihing I do now will expose me. You'll have to get yourself out. Just remember, if you get captured, we have friends in high places. But, if you talk, we have friends in other places too."
It didn't take a genius to figure out that threat. But she was right. "Start cleaning out my desk. Look for anything incriminating."
Rossi picked up the blow horn again. "John, this is David Rossi. We need to talk. Let me give you a phone number so we can talk." He gave out the numbers and waited for him to call. John pushed Sarah into a chair and pointed a gun at her. He pulled out his cell phone and called.
"This is Rossi."
"We have three hostages. You need to back off before someone gets hurt."
"We know there are only three of you and the hostages. I wouldn't suggest a fire fight. Who are the hostages? Do you have Spencer Reid? Is he still alive?"
"He's alive, for now. We also have Sarah Lang and her kid sister."
"John, you know you can't get away. Let the hostages go and we'll see what we can work out."
Spencer kept looking for a way out, but there were no windows, and only one door. He put Jessi in a corner and grabbed the mattress and placed it on top of her. "Stay here. This will protect you for a while."
When he looked back at the bed, he saw the old coil springs sticking out. He got on his knees and tried to pry two of them off. Only one came off, so he bent it over and over to try to get it to break. Finally it did. Now he had two pieces of thin metal. He went over to the door and inserted them into the lock. Finally he heard the click and the door handle moved. "I didn't actually think it would work!" He whispered to himself.
He opened the door just a crack and looked out. He didn't see anyone, but he heard talking. Thinking they would be too busy to keep watch on him, he stepped into the hall.
"I need a car and safe passage. I'll call and let you know where you can pick up the hostages."
"I'm not that stupid, John. I need to talk to the hostages to make sure they're okay. Put Reid on the phone."
"I'm not stupid either. He's alive and if you want him to stay that way, he stays locked up. On the other hand, I have Sarah Lang." He walked over and put the phone on speaker. He handed it to her and went back to the window. "You move from that chair and I start shooting. Understand?"
Sarah nodded her head and held up the phone. "This is Sarah Lang. I'm okay for now and so is my sister Jessi."
Prentiss shrugged her shoulders in a "who knew" gesture. "I didn't even know she had a sister."
"Sarah, this is Rossi. Is Spencer Reid with you? Is he alright?"
She wasn't sure what to say. Should she tell him he'd been beaten the night before? How much would John allow her to say?
"Sarah, is Spencer Reid alright? I'm beginning to get a bad feeling about this."
"He's alive."
"Thank you Sarah. Put John back on the phone."
Prentiss got on the radio and shared all the information she had on the situation with the rest of her team. "He has three hostages. Spencer's alive for now. We need to keep it that way."
"John, send out the girls. We will need you to do something in good faith. You let them go and we can talk about the rest."
Western thought for a few minutes. "I don't think so. I will, however, let the child go. Sarah stays with me. The longer she stays, the longer I stay alive."
"That's a good start. Send her out the front door and I'll have a man meet her out front."
Spencer heard the conversation. He hurried back into the room with Jessi. "He's letting you go. As soon as we know you're safe, Sarah should be right behind you." He felt terrible lying to her, but he knew she wouldn't leave without Sarah.
"I want to stay with Sarah," Jessi cried.
"I know, I know. But you can't. You have to be strong, and show Sarah how brave you are. She needs to know you are safe. Can you do that for her?"
Jessi was crying, but she nodded her head yes. Spencer used his thumbs and wiped her tears. "Let's show her what a big girl you are. You do everything they say alright? Those are my friends out there, ok? They won't hurt you."
"Frank, go get the girl. Bring her out here." Frank didn't want to do it.
"We let her go and we lose some of our leverage. They're the fricking FBI. They won't shoot as long as we have them."
"I'm in charge, and I said go get her, now GO!" Western commanded.
Frank grunted his displeasure, but he left. He pulled open the door and saw Jessi being held by Reid. He grabbed her arm and pulled her away.
"Come on, looks like you get to walk." Spencer couldn't do anything but watch her leave. "Don't you hurt her!" He yelled.
"Luke, I need you to circle around to the front. Western is releasing one of the hostages, a girl. I need you to grab her when she comes out," Prentiss directed.
"Got it. On my way," he answered.
"I'm letting the kid go now, " Western said into the phone. He turned to the girl and added," When the door opens, you go on out. No one will hurt you."
Sarah gave Jessi a quick hug and a kiss on the forehead. "They're nice people Jessi. You go on out." She didn't have time to say more because Frank opened the door and pushed her out.
Luke ran along the side of the house to the front. He got down low and stopped at the bottom of the steps. Suddenly the door opened and a girl was pushed out. She stopped on the porch. Luke signaled her to come down and she did. He swooped her up and ran for cover.
When they were clear, he set her down. "You must be Jessi. I'm Luke. Are you alright? Did they hurt you?" He asked while trying to check her out.
She nodded her head no. "This policeman is going to take you to the paramedics. They're going to check you out, ok?"
Jessi grabbed his arm. "What about Sarah? Spencer said she would be right behind me."
"We're still working on that. For now, Sarah needs to know you're safe." They all walked her over to Rossi.
"Rossi, this is Jessi. Call and let her talk to Sarah."
"John, are you still there?" he asked.
'Yes, I'm still here."
"Put Sarah on."
"This is Sarah."
Jessi grabbed the phone. "Sarah, are you alright? When are you coming out?"
"Jessi, I'm fine. Just do everything they ask. I'll be out as soon as I can, alright?
The officer took Jessi's arm and led her toward the paramedics.
Western took the phone back. "I sent the girl out. Now I want a car with a full tank of gas. We're leaving with the hostages. If I see anyone following us, you'll get them back one at a time, with a bullet. You have 10 minutes."
Spencer listened at the door. He knew they really only wanted him. They still needed the information he had. He started pounding on the door. "Hey! I need to talk to Western."
The door opened and Frank gestured to him to come out. He stood next to Western and made a deal.
"You leave Sarah here, and I'll go with you - "
"Spencer, NO!" Sarah pleaded. "You can't trust him."
"You let her go, and I'll tell you everything you want to know."
"Spencer no! You tell him and he'll probably kill you."
"Deal," Western said. "Rossi, I'm taking my guys and Spencer, as insurance, and I'm leaving Sarah here. I still want that car."
"John, you know I can't do that -"
"I'm not going to prison. You can get her back dead or alive. You're choice."
Prentiss pushed the phone away from them. "If he leaves here, he'll kill Spencer as soon as he can. You can't do it."
"If we get Sarah back, that's one less hostage. Besides, I have no intention of letting him go." Rossi turned to the cop next to him. "Are those snipers in place?"
"Set and ready to go."
"You win, John. I'll have a car here in 10 minutes. Just promise me you won't hurt anyone in the meantime."
