"Are you sure you're alright Gosalyn?", Drake said, looking at the young girl.
She was definitely tired, her eyes were droopy and her voice was rasp.
"Of course I a-a-achoo!", she tried to answer, "Let's go".
Drake shook his head, "There is no way I'm letting you go on patrol with me. Gosalyn, let me take your temperature".
Gosalyn raised her hand, waving it down, "That's not necessary, I feel fine!".
"Gosalyn", Drake said firmly.
"Fine", she started, "Maybe I'm a little sick, but not sick enough to miss patrol".
"No way. You need to rest".
"But it's not like patrols are ever tiring. The city barely has any crime!", she exclaimed.
"I'm aware", Drake groaned under his breath".
Gosalyn crossed her arms defiantly, "You need backup!".
"I can survive one night alone", Drake said.
He crouched down to look her in the eye, "Listen kid. Rest tonight and you can come with me tomorrow. That is IF, and only if, you actually get better".
Gosalyn didn't like missing patrol, especially considering that she could only go on weekends, but she realized that if she didn't agree, Drake would likely make her stay tomorrow as well.
"Fine. But I'll go tomorrow, you'll see".
He smiled, "Good. I'll be back soon. Call if you need anything", he opened the front door, "Feel better".
'Maybe I can sneak out on the roof', Gosalyn thought.
"Oh, and if I catch you sneaking out, you'll be grounded for a month. See ya in a few hours!", he said before closing the door.
'Well there goes that plan'.
What did she usually do when she got sick? It wasn't often she got sick.
Gosalyn went to her room, maybe the best thing to do was to force herself to get better. Sleep it all off.
There was only one problem. She couldn't sleep.
Groaning she sat up, 'I have to distract myself with something!'.
She didn't even feel that sick! It was just Drake being overprotective, he seemed to be getting more and more strict every day!
He was taking his guardian role almost as seriously as his superhero one.
She really didn't feel that bad. Maybe a run around the roof, just making sure there weren't any crimes happening outside the building would be fine.
Darkwing would be busy in the more dangerous areas of town, so it's not like he'll see her sneak out.
Just some fresh air, that was good for her.
She didn't even have to use her costume, why would people be suspicious of a kid on the roof of the building she lived in? There probably wasn't even a criminal around, Drake had picked a 'safe' area for them to live in.
Gosalyn didn't really get it, everywhere in St Canard was pretty safe thanks to the mayor, but you could dream.
The sky was clouded when Gosalyn arrived, but she didn't really mind.
Peering over the sides, no crime was spotted.
A cold wind made Gosalyn shiver. 'I should head back inside'.
A drop of water caught made her look up. The clouds were a dark gray.
In a second another drop followed by another, and another.
Gosalyn rushed to the door, but still managed to get pretty wet. Why had she left the farthest corner of the roof for last?
Either way, she had to get back to the apartment and dry off. A change of clothes, maybe a warm shower and then back to figuring out what she should do.
The warm water made her feel better, but as soon as she stepped out, she could feel shivers crawling up her back again.
Grabbing a few blankets she headed to the couch and turned on the TV. There had to be something good on to keep her mind occupied.
The rain outside was still going strong, making the environment colder than it had been earlier.
'Why did I think going out would be a good idea? I should've checked the weather forecast first'.
She wondered what Darkwing Duck would be doing right now. Was he hiding under a roof somewhere? Was he at the tower waiting eagerly for W.A.N.D.A. to tell him where he could fight off crime? Maybe he had stopped at a friends or a business place.
Wherever he may be, she hoped he didn't catch a cold. What good would two sick superheroes do to their city?
Gosalyn flipped through the channels almost mindlessly, not being able to concentrate, feeling like her head was killing her.
Finally, she left the channel playing 'Pelican Island'. It was alright enough to leave on as background noise without annoying her.
She hurried her face in the blanket, trying to warm up as much as possible.
Would she be feeling this way if she hadn't gone out in the rain.
Gosalyn barely heard the door open, had time passed that quickly?
She looked upland saw that the same episode was playing, "Is something wrong Drake?".
That was assuming Drake was the one who came in. For all she knew, someone broke into the apartment. Ironic wouldn't it be? Darkwing Duck's place being the only place wherecirme was present.
"Oh sorry, I didn't mean to wake you", Drake replied.
She could hear his footsteps as he approached the couch, "You didn't wake me, I'm just trying to find a comfortable position".
"You look worse than when I left. Let me take your temperature", Drake said worriedly.
"You said it yourself, I just need to re-Achoo!".
"Here", Gosalyn groaned as she waited for the thermometer to finish, "Why did you leave patrol early?".
Drake took the thermometer, "Well, I figured someone else needed me more tonight".
"You don't need to"-"Soup?", Drake interrupted, "I figured you could use something to make you feel warm and cozy, especially with the rain".
"Thank you".
Drake left and came back a minute later with two bowls, "I bought it on the way home if you're wondering".
Gosalyn took the bowl gratefully and started to eat.
"What are we watching?", he asked, as he settled down next to her.
"Pelican Island", she answered turning to him, "Aren't you afraid I'll get you sick?".
"The terror that flaps in the night can take on a sick charge", he said triumphantly, "And if anything's going to make me sick, it will probably be the rain I had to get through".
"But you don't seem to be dripping wet".
"Ah, that's because I had a super tool that helped me become impermeable to such forces of nature!".
"You had an umbrella?".
"I had an umbrella".
Gosalyn smiled and turned back to the TV.
She suddenly felt better. Slightly.
