Summary: Djinns must grant the wishes of their Master, no matter who they are.

After 72 years, I finally found it in myself to write the djinn AU. Only after literal years of thinking about it and how it could go and not coming up with anything good to write.

I have AUs that just don't transfer well into writing, mainly because they're small little things that would look better if I gave you all a small bulleted list explaining it. Which is kind of the problem I would have with the cat-to-human AU mini-series should I decide to go through with it. Especially cause I'm not so confident with writing character-studies, which I guess is what the mini-series would be at its core?

So should I decide to do it, expect short chapters?

Planning isn't easy when you got a full-time job to contend with...

"Why are we here again? The tunnels are horrible!"

Breezepelt rolled his eyes at Sunstrike's whining. "We're here to get a lay of the territory remember? Tigerstar recommended places that were good for ambushes."

"Or for luring cats into a trap," Harespring added.

She scowled. "I know that already! But why the tunnels? We know practically nothing about them. Look how well the last battle ended when we went in there. Nothing but scraped paws, wet fur and humiliation from Thunderclan. How did they even know how to fight so well in there?"

"Not to mention Sol ran out on us like a coward…" Harespring hissed.

Breezepelt bristled in agitation as he remembered their humiliating loss; no doubt Thunderclan had only learned to fight so well was because of his dearest half-sister teaching them. She had disappeared only to triumphantly return as if she had conquered the tunnels herself.

'Who does Hollyleaf think she is, one of Starclan's champions?!' he inwardly fumed.

"Whatever. It can still be useful-" he was cut off by distance voices.

"Thunderclan? Here?" Sunstrike whispered fiercely.

"We're practically at the border; of course we might run into those rabbit-brains! Now get down!" Breezepelt commanded. They ducked behind some bushes, not wanting to get caught snooping around the border. They could always claim to be a border patrol, but the last thing they needed was unwanted attention, or being forced to leave.

He'd rather not upset Tigerstar for getting caught. He was looking for improvements in battle-hardened warriors, not lazy cowards.

To the Windclan's warriors surprise, it wasn't a border patrol that was approaching the border. Instead it was the Thunderclan leader and his mate, chatting and purring amicably. The two were practically twisting around each other, whispering sweet nothings into each other's ears. Breeepelt almost wanted to vomit at their displays of affection.

Something golden caught his eye. His eyes widened and he had to shove his tail into Sunstrike's mouth to stop her from gasping as a golden object was being tossed around by the plant-life around them. Branches would come alive, reaching out to hook the object by the opening at its end, and then fling it into the sky to be caught by the next branch.

"Hm? You want to hide my lamp here?" Firestar inquired.

The lamp was flung towards them, only to slow down softly. With a flick of Firestar's tail, it floated in front of Sandstorm, who grasped it in her jaws. She trotted into the tunnels for several heartbeats, before exiting without the golden lamp.

"Buried it. No one would think of going in there for anything," she purred.

"Let alone looking for my lamp," Firestar mused. "There are better ways of making sure no one controls me you know…" he trailed off.

"I know you want to be free someday," she said, brushing up against his pelt.

"You could make your second wish now, love. Anything you want and I'll grant it," he murmured huskily into her ears.

She sighed. "We agreed to keep the second wish in case of an emergency."

Firestar still didn't look so happy but acquiesced to her decision. "If that is what my Master wants…"

"It's just until all the… tension in the clans settle down." She titled his head up with her tail. "How about we have some mice by the lake? I know how much you love mouse."

A small pile of mice was summoned at her paws in a flash of orange light. "No. Put those back to wherever you found them. I'll be hunting for the two of us. You already do so much, it's only natural that I help take care of my wonderful mate," she purred.

"Ah…" A shiver ran through his body as the two twined their tails together, heading off into the forest. The small mouse pile vanished in another flash of orange.

When he thought he was in the clear, he quietly crept out from behind the bush, eyes blown wide.

"Did you see- he just- the mice- and the trees-" Sunstrike whimpered.

"What did we just witness?" Harespring whispered.

"Which part? The part where Firestar has powers, that he calls his mate 'Master' or the fact that the two are so disgustingly in love that it's sickening?" Breezepelt grumbled, feeling his eye twitch.

He lifted his head suddenly, eyes narrowing. He entered the tunnels, eyes scanning the walls for anything unusual.

'She said she buried it…'

Finally he found a patch of freshly dislodged earth behind a few rocks. He swiped off some dirt to reveal the brilliant gold lamp.

He hummed as an idea came to him. 'Maybe Tigerstar will want to know about this.'

.

.

Tigerstar hadn't been surprised when he told him about Firestar's supposed powers. The Dark Forest warrior only huffed when told, his eyes gleaming in frustration, like he already knew about what Firestar could do but didn't understand how.

"Sandstorm buried something weird in the tunnels. Said it was to keep it safe for a time…" Breezepelt trailed off as Tigerstar's eyes snapped towards him.

He slowly grinned in triumph.

"Where in the tunnels exactly?"

"Keep your positions! We've been able to hold them off so far and take out their senior warriors! Someone help Sorreltail get to the medicine den for Starclan's sake!" Brambleclaw yowled out orders, blood dripping down his pelt. His sides heaved heavily in exhaustion, but continued pushing himself for the sake of his clan.

His eyes scanned around Thunderclan's destroyed camp. "Where's Firestar?"

"He was taking a few cats with him to ambush some Dark Forest cats outside camp," Graystripe called out.

"I hope he's alright," he panted.

"Oh, I wouldn't worry about him too much," Tigerstar's deep voice purred in mirth. Immediately, all the warriors in camp sprang to their paws as one of the Dark Forest's leaders casually padded into camp, his eyes lazily scanning the assembled cats.

His tail flicked to-and-fro, revealing a golden object hooked on it.

Sandstorm let out a strangled gasp, drawing everyone's attention towards her.

"No- we were so careful!" she cried out.

"Please, you don't think we have anyone watching? It just so happens that one of our own was around when you decided to hide this away," he said loftily. "I always wondered how he was able to do the things he was able to do. Or why he seemed to only use his powers in regard to your wishes, Sandstorm." His muzzle stretched into a smirk at her horrified face.

The crowd murmured in confusion. The gathered Starclan cats in comparison were far more nervous and fearful, fur and tails puffed up in anxiety.

"Who is he talking about?" Brambleclaw asked, eyes darting between Sandstorm and Tigerstar. Starclan's nervous reaction hadn't escaped his notice either.

"Why don't I show you?" Tigerstar laughed, setting down the object. His tail rubbed against the smooth surface.

"Show yourself, kittypet."

From the front of the object that stemmed out from the base into a long tunnel streamed red and orange smoke. The cloud grew bigger and more defined, the front end taking the shape of a cat while the back end stayed undefined and smoky.

Finally, the smoke drifted away to reveal Firestar's visage, only there were golden bands covering his forelegs, intricate golden markings swirling up his forelegs and into his pelt. His face was accentuated with the same markings, glimmering in the moonlight.

His face was downcast, eyes staring at nothing. His ears only gave the slightest of twitches as his clan yowled their shock and disbelief at Firestar's new form.

"Firestar! I-I wish you were free! I wish you to be free!" Sandstorm screeched.

Firestar lifted his face up to stare at her, sad and ashamed. "I'm afraid I can't grant that wish," he murmured.

"What is going on?! What happened to father?!" Squirrelflight yowled at her mother.

"Did you all know that he was like this?" Brambleclaw hissed at the Starclan cats furiously.

"He's a djinn," Sandstorm mewed in a small voice.

"A what?"

"He's a wish-granter," Blluestar interjected. "Of course we knew. He couldn't hide from the eyes of Starclan. Nothing needed to be done because Sandstorm was making sure that his powers weren't being used for malicious purposes."

Tigerstar's whiskers twitched into a smile at the proceedings in front of him. He addressed Firestar, "Tell me the rules again."

Firestar stared down at him for a moment. "I can't bring back the dead. I can't make anyone fall in love. And no wishing for more wishes," he listed off, voice low in defeat. "Be specific in your wording," he added quietly and quickly.

"Perfect," Tigerstar grinned. "For my first wish, I wish for Starclan to be under my complete and total control."

Immediately, the cats of Starclan yowled and screeched in fury at his words.

"Firestar! You can't grant that wish!" Brambleclaw gasped.

The golden bands across his forelegs lit up, forcibly dragging his paws into making circular motions. "You don't understand. The one that holds my lamp is my Master, and I must grant three of my Master's wishes. I have to grant his wish. It's djinn law!" Firestar grunted as his paws moved with a will of their own.

Sparks of fire flowed down onto Tigerstar. Once they stopped, a dark aura spread over Tigerstar's body. A wave of inky black rushed out from Tigerstar. The darkness washed over the living cats with no effect.

The Starclan cats screeched out in fear and tried running, tripping over themselves and their own paws as they tried to get away from Tigerstar's corruption. It was all for naught, as the wave traveled too fast to avoid.

They all stopped suddenly, the same aura outlining their bodies.

"Turn on the clans," Tigerstar commanded.

They snapped to attention, slowly advancing on the still living cats.

"We're surrounded!"

"What do we do?"

"Brambleclaw?"

Brambleclaw's eyes darted around, as if looking for an answer. Then they landed on Firestar, his head drooped down sullenly.

"Whoever holds the lamp…" he recited to himself.

"What do we do, Brambleclaw?" Squirrelflight hissed worriedly.

His eyes narrowed in resolve. "We get that lamp away from Tigerstar."

"I wish to have your kits."

Firestar's head snapped around to face her. "Pardon?"

Sandstorm rolled her eyes. "I'm using my first wish, mouse-brain. I know that being a djinn makes it so that you can't have kits. I thought wishing for it might counteract that."

"You could just wish to have kits," he reasoned.

"But I want them to come from both of us."

He frowned. "But from me… I'm not sure how that would work. I don't know if the kits will end up being djinn like I am or perhaps they'll end up normally? Or maybe something could go wrong," he fretted.

She brushed up against his fur as best she could, considering that the lower half of his body was nothing but smoke and that he was floating slightly above her. "Can you try? It's not just me that wants kits you know."

The braces around his forelegs lit up. "Be specific," he sighed.

She took in a deep breath. "I wish to be able to carry kits that come from the both of us," she emphasized.

His paws moved in circular motions, bathing her in sparks of fire. Finally, he brought his paws down, humming thoughtfully.

"That felt weird. Like a tiny piece of myself was spilt off in that moment. Miniscule, really," he murmured.

"Then it had to have worked," she purred.

He floated closer to her, putting his head on top of hers.

"I- I'm scared. But also excited if that makes sense?"

"Of course it makes sense. You're becoming a father for the first time after all. You saw how Dustpelt reacted when Ferncloud told him she was pregnant?"

His tail waved wildly in repressed excitement, clearly thinking of their possible unborn kits.

"I always wanted to have a family of my own," he whispered.

"Glad I could grant your own wish then," she trilled, licking his cheek.

Alternatively, if I made Firestar more malicious and mischievous, he would have turned all the Starclan cats into puppets for Tigerstar to control. With literal strings attached. Well he did wish for Starclan to be under his complete control, and what better way to grant that by letting Tigerstar actually control their every move? I didn't feel like it fit the tone that was set at the beginning though... kind of wish I went with this one.

In short, Brambleclaw becomes Aladdin and somehow steals the lamp away from Tigerstar. Or tricks him into doing a Jafar. But I didn't want it to be some kind of Aladdin AU so I didn't go further.

There's now fanart for Artificially Made! If you go to this chapter on A03, you'll be able to see Blossoming_Moon's interpretation of Robo-Firestar! Check it out! Because fanfiction hates links and pictures, so I can't show it here.

Tell me how I did.
