Baseball Accident
(Ayla's POV)
*A few days later, we were exploring the town, when we heard a commotion down at the baseball diamond. We went to check it out & saw . . .*
Sonic: Whoa, the playoffs!
Ayla: Cool! Let's check it out.
*We zoomed under the bleachers to watch the game up close. The player at bat hit a home run & his team congratulated him with high-fives. I could see the sparkle in my brother's eyes as I watched*
*That night, I was getting ready to leave the cave, when Sonic stopped me*
Sonic: Yo, sis. I'm gonna check out the baseball field, wanna come?
Ayla: Sorry, can't. It's Saturday night. Remember?
Sonic: Oh, right. Well, said hi to your fans for me.
Ayla: Will do!
*We both went out separate ways. Sonic running & me on my hoverboard*
*I made my way deep into the forest, to an old abandoned radio station. Sonic & I found it a few years ago while exploring the area. Originally, we planned to turn it into a hideout. But that idea changed when I found a way I could put it to real use*
(Flashback)
*I was sitting on the roof of a building near the park, when I heard the sound of someone crying. I looked & found a teenage girl sitting under a tree at the far end of the park, crying. Curious, I went up to her, hiding myself behind the tree*
Ayla: Hey. What's wrong?
*The girl looked up from her hands & looked around*
Girl: Huh? Who's there?
Ayla: Uh . . . Let's just say . . . I'm just like you.
Girl: R - Really?
Ayla: Yeah. So, what's wrong?
*She started sniffling*
Girl: Well, you see . . .
*She started telling me her story. How she was always getting picked on by this girl at her school just because she wore glasses & had to wear braces. Calling her names "Ugly" & "Freak". It was making her feel worthless*
Ayla: That's terrible. But you know what I think? I think she's just looking for someone to pick on do she can feel good about herself. A lot of people feel that way & just look for a reason to take their anger out on others.
Girl: Really?
Ayla: Really. And besides, you're just as pretty as she is. Both on the inside & the outside. So, the next time she tries to give you a hard time just ignore her. But if that doesn't work, then just stand up to her. I know that might sound scary, but trust me. You'll feel a lot happier after you do.
*I started to leave, but the girl stopped me*
Girl: Wait! Just who are you?
Ayla: Just call me Rebel.
(Present Time)
*The next day, I went to the local high school to check up on her. And to my surprise, my advice worked. She stood up to her bully & most of the school joined in. Turns out that girl wasn't the only one that was getting harassed. After that, I decided to share my wisdom with the other teenagers of Green Hills. I fixed up the old radio station & started playing my air waves on a radio signal hardly anybody listens to. And yes, I know that's pirating. But, I couldn't couldn't do it legally. Anyway, I decided to call my show Radio Rebel & ever since day one, I've been the number one radio show in Green Hills. Kids all over town call me for advice*
*8:00. Time to get this show on the road. I pressed a few buttons & started speaking into the microphone*
Ayla: Good evening, Green Hills! This is Radio Rebel, live from the underground. You may not know who I am, but I know who you are. 'Cause I'm one of you. By the way, my brother says hi. So, a birdie told me that report cards came out at school today. I don't attend school, so I would probably get a minus for participation. But you know what, you can't give me a minus for who I am. So, since grades are being handed out, I'd like to give all of the students at Green Hills High an F, for labeling each other. Jocks, outcasts, dorks, Queen Bees with their followers, and so on. Guys, these are all labels. Not who we really are. Once upon a time, being different was a good thing. Now those differences just divide us. You deserve to embrace your awesomeness. Stand up for who you are. Reject the status quo. I dare you. Now then, let's hear some problems, so I can give you advice. *a second later, a red light started blinking* Oh! We've got our first caller already. *I pressed the answer button* Talk to me.
Girl:*off-screen* Um . . . Radio Rebel. I'm in major need of advice. You see . . . I can't keep a secret. Like, at all. If I hear a really juicy secret that someone is trying to keep to themselves, I just can't resist the urge to blurt it out for everyone to hear. It's gotten so bad, I can't even trust myself to keep my own secrets. How can I keep my secrets without saying them out loud?
Ayla: I getcha. You've got a really bad case of blabbermouth. Well, the best way it to write secrets down in a journal or diary. Trust me. You'll feel a lot better once you get those secrets off your chest. Even if the person you're telling them to is just a book.
*I got ready to sing a song I wrote*
*Ayla singing*
Who do I turn to when I'm feeling mad
Whether I'm happy, angry, or sad
It's you
Dear diary
It's true
Dear diary
It's you
Dear diary
You set me free
I write down my feelings one by one
(One by one)
'Cause writing down my feelings sets me free
It's just between you and me
Personal secrets
(Dear diary)
Where can I share them
(Dear diary)
Ongoing problems
(Dear diary)
Where do I air them
With you
Dear diary
It's true
Dear diary
With you
Dear diary
You set me free when it's just you and me
Just you and me
Dear diary
Ayla: So, you see. If you have certain things you need to keep to yourself, but have the urge to say it out loud, just write it down in a dairy.
Girl:*off-screen* Wow. Thanks, Radio Rebel. I feel so much better now.
Ayla: No problem. Now then, let's hear our next caller. *a red light started blinking & pressed a button* Talk to me.
Boy:*off-screen* Uh . . . Hi Radio Rebel. Um . . . I was wondering . . . How can I get a pretty popular girl to notice a nobody like me.
Ayla: Well, for starters, there's no such thing as a nobody. Everyone is a somebody. As for your romantic problem, I'd say the best course of action is to - *suddenly, all the lights in the station went out. I noticed blue sparks going along my equipment* Oh no . . .
*I immediately grabbed my stuff & rushed out of the station*
*I made my way back to cave, where I found my brother have a mini panic attack*
Ayla: Sonic! What happened!? Tell me this black-out isn't your fault!
Sonic: Uh . . . Okay. I won't tell you.
Ayla: Sonic . . . What did you do!?
Sonic: Okay, okay. I was at the baseball diamond, playing a game by myself. But when I went in for a high-five, I remembered no one was there. I started thinking that the two of us would be alone . . . Forever. I started doing laps around the field and the more I ran, the more upset I got. I didn't realize until it was too late that I had built up a ton of energy inside of until it got a little out of control & burst out of me. Then all the lights went out.
Ayla: A little out of control? Sonic! You caused the whole town's, probably the whole state of Montana's, power to go out! I'd call that going completely out of control!
Sonic: Okay, okay. I'm no one noticed, right?
Ayla: Oh, I think a ton of people noticed.
*Sonic gulped*
