Hello everyone ! Welcome to this new fanfiction, which is actually an other translation of the french one I finished last year. Updates are going to be pretty regular so. I hope you will enjoy it, this is a big emotionnal roller coaster, so hold tight to your seats !

This fanfiction is dealing with some touchy subjects like child abuse. Please do not read if you don't like the subject, this will be the only warning. It's mostly soft in the descriptions, but one or two scenes are really hard.

Disclaimer : Undertale and its characters belongs to Toby Fox. This fanfiction is free, I'm not winning any money with it. I'm only drinking the salty tears of my readers.

Last small warning, I'm french so there might be some mistakes and weird formulations sometimes. Sorry !

Chapter 1 : Blood in the streets

Sans turned in his sheets again and again, worry. For several minutes now, the churches bells around the village were singing the end of the world. At least, from his eight years old age experience, he was sure this was what it sounded like. Not sure of what to do, the little scared skeleton hid under his blanket. Outside, he could heard the screamings, the shootings, the explosions, but somehow, he hoped it was just a nightmare and that everything would go silent again soon.

But then, there was that detonation. Louder than the others, far more louder. All the windows of his room exploded with a big part of the wall as he yelled of terror, all his bones rattling under the small space theme blanket where he really thought he would die tonight. The war never had been this close before. The humans never adventured this far out of their camp before this day. Why would they attack them ? There was only families here, and his dad said the humans were only hunting the Royal Guard. The Royal Guard was not here !

"Sans !" yelled a voice in the corridor. "Papyrus ! Wake up !"

As if someone could sleep through this ! There was no way he was moving out of the blanket. But what about Papyrus ? Papyrus must be so scared ! He couldn't leave him just like this !

Sans inspired, then, slowly, passed the head out of the bed. His bedroom was ruined. His posters had been ripped off and most of his toys got crushed by the bricks. It was night, but the room was illuminated like in the day. His little feet touched the ground and he got closer from the edge. His father forbid him to get close from the window during the alerts, but there was none now. However, maybe, just this time, he should have listen.

The house across the street was burning, its facade destroyed like it was made of cards. As for what standing in the middle of the road, everything was devastated. Human bodies lay on the ground, motionless, on a white dust bed so characteristic of his species fallen ones. Between the dead, some humans and monsters were still fighting fiercely. Contrary to the Royal Guards, the Monsters here were badly equipped to face a threat like this. The poor "soldiers" who were fighting used knifes and magic, which seemed a lot weaker that the guns, tanks, bombs and missiles that were far more dangerous and mortal.

Lost in his contemplation, he didn't understand right away he got noticed. Two human soldiers were watching in his direction. Sans gasped when he did eye contact. They won't let him leave. They were here for one reason : kill as many monster they could.

"Here !" screamed a man. "There's an other one !"

The guns pointed towards him. Only moved by his survival instincts, Sans hurled himself under the bed as a rain of bullets lashed the room. It destroyed all that's left : his drawings, his dreams, his innocence. Everything he constructed in this place was turning to scraps. And soon enough, there would be nothing to save him.

Sans closed the eyes and hid his face in his arms, terrified, and a scream of fear escaped his mouth. Tears ran on his cheeks as he realised he was stuck. If someone saw him getting up, he was dead ! But fortunately, the door burst open.

"Sans ! Sans, where are you ?"

W.D Gaster, his father, leaned down when he spotted the two little pink slippers poking out from under the bed. The young skeleton's dad caught his ankles and pull him out of his hiding spot. Sans screamed, surprise, but immediately calm down when he understood the rescue was here. He clang on him and hold him the best he could while Gaster led him out of the room. They took cover in the corridor. Gaster put him down next to a smaller skeleton.

Papyrus, his little brother, was shaking and crying in his huge blanket. A large crack crossed his skull, clumsily bandaged. Sans couldn't watch away, horrified. On this very little head, it looked gigantic. How could he heal that ?! What if his brother died like his mom, a few years ago ? He couldn't abandon him behind ! Papyrus pull his arm and hugged him, reassuring his brother for a little while.

Their father was occupied on the opposite part of the room. He got a big bag in the hand and throw useful things inside : food, water, medicines, bandages. This time, no doubt was possible : they were leaving. Sans felt extremely betrayed. His father promised that the war would never come here, that everything was going to be alright. But like always, he lied.

Gaster dropped the bag at his feet. Sans looked away, angry, but he crouched and lift his chin to force him to look at him.

"Please, listen to me, Sans. This is very important." he said, very serious. "The humans attacked us by surprise tonight. We have to join the King's camp, in front of the Mountain, there is no more other solution, do you understand ? I can't… I can't come with you, people needs me here. I have to help others children to escape, I have to heal injured monsters. I want you to take your brother and to run away. Don't let anyone stop you, even if… Even if it means you have to kill to pass through. They won't show any mercy, Sans. If they saw you, they are going to kill you both."

He put a blue jacket in his arms and help the child to close it, then to put the backpack on. Sans never saw his father this stressed before. Gaster hesitated, then put out a syringe out of his pocket.

"If… If you ever need this, this is a needle of determination. If you are too weak to fight, you have to plant it in your soul. It will give you a magic boost for several seconds to fight back or run away. But there is consequences so don't use it until it is absolutely necessary, do you understand me ?"

Sans took it and put it in his own pocket.

"Yes." he answered, the voice trembling a little. "Yes, I understand."

Gaster nodded, satisfied. Sans stood up and lift Papyrus in his arms. His little brother was only five years old, he could hold him for a few minutes. He followed Gaster down the stairs, straight to the front door. His father's eyes turned cyan.

"It's time to go, Sans. I'm going to cover you up to the end of the street, after that, you'll be on your own. Don't look back for me, I promise we will see again soon."

Gaster opened the door and a huge animal skeleton head blastered instantly the humans in front of the house. Sans ran in the opposite direction, his little brother in the arms. The Mountain was right in front of him, but far away. The road would be difficult, but he knew he could do it. He had to do it. For Papyrus.

After they reached the end of the street, Sans turned left. After only a few steps, something slid between his legs. An injured human soldier smiled to him sadistically. Sans gasped and ran as far as his legs could hold him. Then a huge explosion banged behind him and the two skeletons got sweep along with the closest building.

Sans crashed violently against a wall and everything turned black around him.
