Hi, everyone, I'm back. My health is still kind of finicky but I'm better. I'm adjusting myself to a diet and I've been losing and gaining weight almost at a constant pace. I've also been dealing with Edema. Apparently, it's where fluids build up in your body and it's been affecting my eyesight to the point where words were blurry but now I'm wearing glasses to help with that issue. Sadly the fluids from the Edema built up in my legs and feet which caused them to swell up like a balloon and caused some light bruising. It was awkward to be at work with that. My mom at first feared it could have been heart disease which should have been slightly impossible because I'm only 26 years old, but I'm starting to feel a bit more confident and I even published an actual book online which is awesome. It's not big, in fact, it's a short story and very cheap too. Gotta keep practicing at writing so I can be better for future books. I'll be writing slowly so it's not rushed, and I will be going back through my work to make sure nothing needs to be corrected and hopefully get more detailed as I go. On the note of the Edema, they have me on medication and I've been on the mend. The bruising is still there though.
Now story detail, I plan on putting the original three chapters into one long one and just kind of make it long for the rest of the chapters. I might change it up here and there to edit it better so bear with me everyone. The main pairing is still Vanessa x Elijah
Summary: The war had left its mark on one known as Vanessa Potter, the renowned Girl Who Conjured twice. Things in the magical world could never seem to leave her be and she was always tired. Tired that she couldn't smile. Tired that she couldn't be happy. Tired that she couldn't escape from her relatives. Just when all hope seemed lost in her despair, fate overruled her life once again. Is it a good thing? A bad thing? Only Vanessa could witness the outcome herself if she wanted that answer.
The weather outside was bright and cheerful for spring. Birds chirped as they gathered up twigs and sticks for their nesting as they passed through a neighborhood through Little Whinging, Surrey in London. Houses were built next to each other in a way so familiar that even the houses looked the same. Minus the numbering that is. Now, what's different? Well, the difference is the house of number 9. They held a family of three that you could probably consider a normal sort; the thing is though they feared more than anything was a young woman, their niece slash cousin named Vanessa Joseline Potter. She was the most beautiful woman anyone could ever meet. She had long ebony hair with the brightest emerald eyes. She had wavy bangs that helped cover up a slowly faded lightning bolt scar on her forehead. She was wearing a long dark blue dress with sandals to match. She currently had her hair done up in a ponytail style and her blood-red lips curled in distaste when she heard her aunt calling her. She was now officially of age and she wanted to go to Gringotts before she left England for good.
So she pulled out her wand and shrunk all of her things in an expanded charmed made duffle bag and threw it over her shoulder and smiled sadly at the empty bird cage. Her beloved owl had died protecting her during the war against Voldemort and she missed her greatly. Vanessa sighed as she went down the stairs and sneered when her aunt approached her. "Listen here girl, we're leaving for the day and we want this place to be spotless and no getting the food out of the fridge you hear me." She demanded her and Vanessa merely smirked at the long-necked woman. "Oh I hear you aunt Petunia, but the thing is, I don't care. I'm now considered of age in the eyes of the wizarding world which means I'm now leaving this place. If you want the place cleaned up, you do it yourself you old hag." She snarled the last word at her aunt's paling face and walked out the front door and apparated with a loud crack.
She grinned when she spotted the pub and made her way to the entrance of the ally and tapped the pattern on the brick wall. Loud voices of children talking about brooms and animals calling out and people bustling their way as they shopped. It felt like the time she first came here at eleven years old. But now, she only felt ready to go out in the world and create her own home. Somewhere she could find peace at last.
A FEW DAYS LATER:
Vanessa sighed with relief now that she was officially settled in at her new home. it took a few days and a ton of shopping. She was thankful when she had decided to leave the wizarding world and her vaults and family vault were all connected to one itty bitty debit card that can be used pretty much everywhere. This means she had no need for such, but she knew she would have been bored and thought of the prospect of getting a job.
Sitting down in her recliner, she lost herself in her thoughts and memories and it took her to the day she was packing her stuff and sneered to herself.
Memory...
In all her years, she received nothing but pain and fear all just for existing thanks to some stupid Prophecy. Since she turned twelve years old and had the means to get them, Vanessa had taken to writing in a journal in details about her life.
Each journal represented each year since she was twelve years old and she was now twenty years old and things had changed immensely. Remus and Tonks were married and then killed during the war, suddenly leaving behind newborn baby Teddy, aka Theodore Lupin. It had been a few years since she was given the task of taking care of him thanks to Remus and Tonks naming her Godmother and Teddy was now four years old. In the time she took to caring for him, he grew up to be a rather rambunctious little thing and it kept her on her toes consistently. She honestly couldn't ask for another for he was the constant light in her life and will remain the same as he continued to grow.
But lately, though, she had been hounded by every witch and wizard including the Ministry about possible marriage proposals which honestly made her sick and tired of all the crap they keep on throwing her way. It was their stupidity and ignorance that made the reason for her to be in one of the offices at the bank, she was hoping to see if she owned any property value outside of England and whether or not she could move into it. One of the first Goblins she first met suddenly came in and she noticed it was Ragnock, and made his way to the desk in front of her.
"Ah Lady Potter, in the letter you sent me, you are hoping to see if the Potter or Black Family had any properties outside of England, is that correct?" He asked her with a slight glare on his face. Vanessa nodded. "Yes, how do I go about doing that?" She asked him. Keeping his expression neutral, he simply leaned forward on the desk and gave her a pointed look. "We just need a few drops of blood on one of our parchments and we'll let magic do the rest." He explained.
Vanessa hummed a bit in thought. "Alright, give me the knife then." She said willingly. He slid the bronze knife over to her and leaned back a bit. Vanessa grabbed the knife and gently but firmly scrapped it across her left palm and started squeezing the blood out over the parchment and waited for the words to start appearing on it. Waiting for the words to appear, Vanessa immediately started reading the name of the properties after looking in shock at how rich she was and seeing the perfect place for her.
"What about the Black cottage in Mystic Falls, Virginia? Is that livable?" She asked the goblin before her. He looked over the parchment and his eyes widen in surprise when he saw something that might have been concealed from her thanks to magic. "He coughed a little bit before looking at her and nodded. "Yes, it's a bit small, but it should have no problems fitting to your needs while you're taking a much-needed personal time." He told her, seemingly like he was in a good mood. Vanessa was a bit suspicious over his changed demeanor but shook her head anyways.
"Alright, is it possible to purchase some plane tickets to go?" She asked him. He raised an eyebrow at her in surprise. She shrugged her shoulders, "just in case anyone decided they wanted to trace my magic and try to find me for nefarious reasons." She told him simply and he nodded in understanding. "Just sign these papers with your magic signature and we'll deliver you your passport and your plane ticket along with the key to the Black cottage, good luck Ms. Potter, you really seem to need it these days." He bid her farewell. She smiled at him. "Much appreciated Ragnock, may your continue to overflow." She bowed to him and then walked away to his surprise.
It was the next day when Vanessa finally received word that her impending departure had spread through to certain people she dreaded speaking to in the first place, Ron and Hermione. She met them when she was eleven years old in her first year of Hogwarts. She had thought they were her friends, but it turns out they were just using her for her fame and hopefully towards her fortune. While she was there, Ragnock had given her a golden debit card that was connected to all of her vaults so anything she needed to purchase, this card could be used anywhere. She didn't need a job, but if she liked the place enough and the people in it, she had considered working in a restaurant.
The bushy brown hair and redhead sat in front of her dumbfounded. "But Vanessa, you can't leave, I thought you were going to join the Auror department!" Hermione almost screeched at her. Vanessa sighed in annoyance at her tone. To her surprise though, Ron was quiet while Hermione did all of the protests. "It is in no way your concern in what I want to do with my life, Hermione. I need a break from here, this place just reminds me too much of the dark times and I'm starting to feel tired of the same damn things that people expect me to do, I'm going whether you like it or not." She told her and the other girl huffed in anger before turning to Ron. "Well, why aren't you saying anything Ron?" She demanded.
Vanessa raised an eyebrow as well, wanting to hear his reason too. He shuffled his feet a bit almost nervously. "I know I uh haven't been the friend you hoped for and I'm pretty sure you're considering cutting me and Hermione out of your life once you go will you?" He asked her quietly. Vanessa looked at him in surprise along with Granger. "I'm surprised you even knew I was going in the first place, but yes, I no longer consider you two friends, especially now that Dumbledore is dead and no longer enforcing you two to stay." She said after a shockingly quiet moment, despite Hermione over there tapping her feet in anger, arms crossed.
Vanessa sighed in agitation. "Can you two please leave? I got a ton of packing to do if I want to be on time for my flight soon." She said, trying to get them to leave. Ron stood up almost immediately, but Hermione stood her ground."What about the Potter and Black fortune?" Everyone froze in stunned silence at her question. Vanessa's blood turned cold when she heard. "What about it?" She said coldly.
Hermione's expression suddenly went slack and now she was suddenly looking horrified. Vanessa stood on her feet, heart frozen with anger as she stared down at Hermione. She sent Ron a silent farewell before she raised her arm up, hand raised outward. "You are not worthy to know of my undoing Hermione Granger, if you wish to live to see the next day, I bid you goodbye, now go!" She yelled out as a large gust of wind came out from her hand and she moved it to where Hermione yelled out as she and Ron were thrown out of the building with a literal sense.
Vanessa slouched down a bit once the anger died down into a nearby chair that hadn't yet been packed away and sighed. So Hermione and Ron had only been using her, well that's fine, but to betray her by wondering about her inheritance given to her by her parents and godfather? That was unacceptable to her, a betrayal that could never be fixed if the person remains the same. She just prayed to herself, prayed that the place she'll be moving to wouldn't hurt her as much as this place had done.
MEMORY OVER...
To the stranger reading this Journal,
It had been almost a year since I settled in at Mystic Falls, Virginia and I can honestly tell you this. It was not boring, but I managed to make a small group of friends here who had the knack of attracting just as much trouble as I do. Elena Gilbert is one of them, she can be a bit naive and doesn't think everything through what with befriending Stefan and later on his brother Damon despite the two being Vampires. Stefan was okay, if a bit stiff like he can't relax. Damon was a bit of a hothead, will lash out against anyone that relates to whoever made him feel emotions, especially painful ones. I actually felt kind of bad for him, he was forced into being this vampire, this blood-sucking demon, he told me he never wanted this life, but that Stefan made him want it. I've taken it upon myself in being his best friend and so far, I'd say that was turning out to be pretty well. I'm old enough not to worry about high school, but I might apply for a job, it's getting a bit too boring for my taste. Well, I'll be back for another entry stranger, farewell, Vanessa.
She closed her rather thick brown leather journal when Vanessa heard the doorbell ring. Putting her book away inside her desk, she got up from her cozy office and made her way to the front door of her cottage and saw Damon Salvatore standing there with a smirk on his face. "How's it going, Miss Van?" He asked her cheekily. She just huffed a smile at him. Ever since she had taken to following him around trying her best to befriend him, he had taken it upon himself to try out multiple nicknames for her, his favorite at the moment was Miss Van.
"Hello Damon, how's life?" She asked him as let him inside. He hummed a bit as he looked at the new paintings she had recently brought from an art gala. "It's so-so at the moment, kind of dry really. Sherrif has taken upon herself to dose the whole town's water supply with vervain so I can't feed regularly. Got to drink from the bags now. But I hear you thinking of applying for a job even though you're rich as heck, may I ask why?" He asked as he lounged on her large black leather couch, causing her to roll her emerald eyes at him.
"I'm a bit bored with having so much free time on my hands, sue me for wanting something to do." She snarked at him. In response, he raised a dark eyebrow at her. "Alright then, let's go to Matt Donavan over at the Mystic Grill, I hear they're hiring a waitress if you want to do that." He offered to her surprise. Despite being his only friend, she raised an eyebrow. "And you're helping me why?" He shrugged unashamedly. "It lets me see you more often and I'm trying to take a break from the supposed scooby gang who thinks I'm always up to something." He told her honestly.
Vanessa just looked at him in surprise, she thought he sticks to Elena since she was kidnapped by two vampires apparently as a bargaining chip or something that had been two days ago. "How's Elena doing since her kidnapping?" She asked him. Damon immediately stiffened at her question and his smirk turned into his trademark glare. "It's been Stefan this and Stefan that, hence why I prefer spending time with you today if you don't mind." He sped up towards the side from where she was standing and facing the door. He had his arm raised out almost like a proper gentleman asking a lady for a dance, causing Vanessa to smirk in amusement a bit. Accepting his arm, she let him lead her out the door to his car. As they drove around in silence Vanessa started humming to the radio. "So...how come you don't have any boy toys following you around?" Damon asked her curiously.
Vanessa just signed and watched the scenery pass by. "I've either been betrayed so many times or people just wanted me around for the money end of things, it's one of the reasons why I moved. It was getting harder and harder to trust anybody back at home." She told him somewhat honestly. He may be a vampire, but on the legal side of things, he was born a muggle in the muggle world and muggles weren't in the know unless they were immediate family, but in time, with her being Mistress of Death thanks to the stupid war, maybe just maybe. Damon proved that he could be someone she trusted. She's definitely working up to it at least.
Damon gave her a side look as they pulled up to the Mystic Grill. Vanessa smiled at the rustic homey country style it gave off, she could honestly see herself working here and maybe even liking it. "Well Miss Van, we have arrived." His phone binged and apparently, it was a message from Stefan and Vanessa rolled her eyes. "Let me guess, more trouble?" She asked him. He gave her a dark smirk at her sarcasm but nodded. "I'm afraid my time with you has been cut a bit short, but give me a call when you're done with Matt and I can take you back home if you'd like." Vanessa wrapped her arms around Damon in a loose hug and smiled at him. "Thanks, Damon, I'll let you know how it goes through text and whatnot." She said and climbed out of the car and walked into the Grill.
Spotting Matt at the bar, she grinned at the teen who beamed a bit when he noticed it was her. "Hey Vanessa, what can I get you today?" He asked her, notepad at the ready. "I'm not here to eat or anything, but I heard you had a job opening for a waitress?" He brightens up almost immediately. Vanessa stiffens a bit when her magic literally started buzzing in excitement throughout her body when it felt like someone was watching her. "Of course, are you looking for full-time or part-time?" He asked her. It didn't take long for Vanessa to know what she wanted. "Full time please, too much time on my hands and I definitely need something to do, figured this would give me a decent experience." She said honestly. He nodded at her words. "Alright, I can pencil you in for an interview with the boss say tomorrow morning at 9 in the morning?" He asked her curiously.
Vanessa nodded and he marked it down. "Alright, I'll let him know about the interview and I'll call you if it's confirmed and we can go from there." He told her and she smiled. "Sounds perfect to me Matt. Outside of work, do you have any plans later?" She asked him, he just sheepishly shook his head. "Sorry Ness, I got a lot of school work I gotta get done especially if I want to pass." He said and she nodded sympathetically. "Very well then, give me a call about the interview and if you ever need help with anything, don't hesitate to ask Matt, I know the others don't include you much in anything nowadays." She gave him a sympathetic smile and he nodded. "Will do and Ness?" She turned to him when she was starting to walk away. "Thanks for being a friend." He told her, causing her to beam at him happily and nod.
As she walked toward the entrance she pulled out her new cell phone and started texting Damon.
"How goes it with the Scooby gang? Pretty sure it's nothing but drama."
"Eh so-so, danger definitely likes following Elena, but nothing Stefan can't handle, how was it with Matt?"
:) "Job interview is scheduled for tomorrow morning at 9, he said he'd give me a call when the boss confirms it. When do you think you can come to pick me up?" She could have apparated to her home, but she didn't want to freak Damon out when he couldn't find her.
"Scooby gang won't let me leave even if it's you, think you'll be okay?" Vanessa huffed out in annoyance. "Elena and the scooby gang are seriously getting on my nerves now." She muttered to herself before reapplying.
"I'll be fine, avoid the wooden sticks please, I like my best friend alive."
;) was all he sent her causing her to roll her eyes until she accidentally slammed into something hard. "Oh, I'm sorry I didn't see where I was going..." She froze when her magic started to purr at the sight of the man before her and she jolted, almost falling backward until he caught her by the elbow. Gasping a bit when sparks lit up between them and Vanessa looked at the man before her wide-eyed. He swallowed a bit at her expression. "It's alright miss, I wasn't paying attention as well, are you alright?" He asked her worriedly when her face paled.
"Oh um, I'm fine. Sorry about that. Oh, how rude of me, my name's Vanessa, Vanessa Potter-Black, aren't you new in town?" She asked him, hand held out for a shake, instead of shaking her hand, he raised it to his lips and gave her a kiss, causing Vanessa to blush brightly. "It's perfectly alright Miss Vanessa, my name is Elijah Milkaelson, I'm here in the interest of history as a researcher." He told her with a small smile that told her magic otherwise. He was her mate and her magic was telling her that he was another Vampire like Damon, she didn't let it worry her though since being mistress of death, she can't be killed so the fact that he was a vampire relieved her.
"It's lovely to meet you, Elijah, I hope this town treats you as well as it did for me." She gave him a shy smile that he returned. She pulled her hand away and walked towards the entrance.
Elijah grimaced when the demon in him hissed to mark her since the dame was his mate, he was surprised when she bumped into him while texting on her phone but in reality, she was a vision in his mind and he really wanted her to stay, but he knew he couldn't, not yet at least, but maybe he could court her in secret until after his brother had managed to unlock his wolf from the curse Esther had placed on him. Instead of waiting for another moment, he hurried after her and tapped her on the shoulder, causing her to look at him in surprise. "Elijah?" She asked him. He held out a piece of paper with his number written on it.
"Perhaps since we're both considered somewhat strangers in this town, would you give me the honor of going out for dinner and getting to know one another better?" He asked her in a hopeful tone. Vanessa looked at the man as she considered his offer. He was handsome, dark trimmed hair and he was dressed in one of those expensive suits that showed off just how strong he was and her magic just kept purring.
Despite it being a little over a minute of silence she gave him a smile and took his number. "I'd be delighted to accept Elijah, I'll text you the time and day." She said and bent down to kiss her hand in gratitude. "I'll be looking forward to it my darling." He gave her a mix of a smirk and a smile and walked away, leaving her stunned.
It had been about a week since Vanessa had met Elijah and applied for a job at the Grill. She went through an interview and had been trained on how to be a waitress and honestly, life was slowly improving even more. She was deeply interested in Elijah after that first meeting, and she was sure he was interested in her because of the constant texting and calling. But so far, she hasn't gotten the courage to tell him when on the dinner invite, though he was very tempted to accept.
She knew just from talking to him that Elijah had money so she wouldn't have to worry about him being with her just for her inheritance and the way he talked, she mused almost wistfully. told her that he had the honor in almost everything so she shouldn't have to be worried about him being unfaithful, but then...She hesitated. Why does she hesitate? She knew he was a vampire, one of the originals so he couldn't be killed and she couldn't be killed due to being MIstress of Death. Was it because she was worried about his reaction to her type of magic or maybe of how she grew up?
She didn't know, but she knew she had to gather up her courage soon before he lost interest in her and find someone that was probably even better than she was. Taking a deep breath, she took her phone and called his number.
"Hello?" His voice sounded out a bit which caused some of Vanessa's nerves to reappear again.
"Hi there Elijah, it's Vanessa." She felt like she almost stuttered over her name a bit. "Ah Vanessa, I do hope this is the call I've been waiting for?" He said with an almost happy tone that she couldn't quite put a name to on the phone. She smiled shyly to herself. "Yes, I'm free this weekend on Sunday if you still wanted to do dinner?" She suggested slowly.
For a minute, it almost sounded as though he could have been skimping around with a happy he sounded, but in Vanessa's mind, he could have been mainly smiling or even smirking more like, she couldn't really picture someone like Elijah skimping about. He was definitely far more reserved than she'd reckoned. "That sounds perfect actually. How does 6 pm sound?" He suggested and she grinned. "Sounds perfect to me, how should we do this? Do we meet somewhere or?" She asked him curiously. "I'll come to pick you up at your place, you can just message me your address and we'll go from there, does that sound okay to you?" He suggested and Vanessa sighed in thought. "Sounds good, I'll see you, Sunday Elijah." She said wistfully, a chuckle sounded on the other end. "You'll see me than my dear." He said and hung up.
Vanessa just smiled widely at the idea of seeing him again soon. She grabbed her keys and purse and decided to go ahead and make her way over to Damon's place to see if he wanted to hang out today.
Vanessa pulled up in her car up the driveway of the Salvatore Boarding house and saw Elena and Stefan sitting on the porch. Shutting her car off, she made her way to them. "Hey everyone, Damon around?" She asked Stefan. He gave her a small smile but shook his head."I think he left about an hour ago when I was asleep, he said something the night before about a council meeting." He told her. Vanessa sighed in slight disappointment.
"What's up Vanessa?" Elena asked her. She blushed a little at the attention but she grinned almost in excitement. "I got a date on Sunday." She said in a sing-like tone. Elena jumped up from the rocking chair and squealed. The girl wrapped her arms around her waist. "That's awesome, who is the guy?" She asked her, smiling. Vanessa almost swooned just talking about it. "Very handsome, broad-shouldered, definitely sophisticated and he comes with an English accent. Name's Elijah. My entire being just sings with him nearby. Literally bumped into him at The Grill when I was looking at job opportunities." She said and sat down on one of the available chairs.
Stefan leaned up a bit straighter. "You said his name is Elijah?" He asked her in a tense way. She frowned. "Yes, why do you ask?" She asked him a bit concerned. He sighed and looked to Elena who frown along with him in confusion. "I think he's one of the Originals who might be after Elena to break a curse, I fear her life might be in danger." He said to complete silence.
Vanessa stared at him darkly. "How do you know he's the same one?" She asked quietly, wanting to defend the man who might be her mate. He leaned back against the chair and sighed deeply. "Because he kidnapped her from the Vampires, Rose, and Trevor about a few days ago." He explained. Hearing that statement caused Vanessa to snap. "And I'm hearing this now?!" She almost yelled, causing the two to flinch a little at her dark look. "Vanessa, listen..." Elena tried to plead with her.
Vanessa cut her friend off. "It's like the only person around this town that seems to include me in anything is Damon and seeing as he's not here, tell him to call me." She said and walked away. "Vanessa, wait!" Elena tried calling out to her but she was ignored as the car turned back on.
There it is guys, one seriously long chapter out of three original chapters lol. I'll be resuming them after this is published but it'll have to wait until my work shift is finished considering it's just before 9 am my time. Now onto the book thing, I use Barnes and Noble for my publishing because it's cheaper and so much easier to use than anything else. If you are interested, you could look it up, the book is called "Unveiling the Dusky Soul" it's under the author's real name starting with McGuire. I'm not going to post my name into the story, but if you need the full name you can PM me and I'll give it to you. The ebook version is at $5 in USA currency but if you're doing it online, anything works. Now for paperback-wise, it'll be on sale at $7.50 due to printing costs. Since it's smaller than a novel, I figured I'd sell it for the cheap cause why not? It makes it easier on the people.
Next news, I plan on creating a Harry Potter/Twilight fanfic and it will be slash, gay, etc. So if you're not into that detail, please don't read it and don't leave any negative comments unless you're one of the critics. I take critics more seriously than I do with people who didn't read the whole chapter that included the bold letters. I'm debating on pairing Harry up with one of the wolves, but I'm unsure as to who, definitely not Jacob considering he's been used way too much, I am considering Paul and some others but I'll let you guys pick. Sam will be unavailable as he's going to be with Emily. Thank you for reading this.
P.S. Instead of making this into a separate story from the original, I decided to erase the original chapters since they're already put into this one.
