Harry Potter always was a bit of an oddball. He was rather skinny for his age, a whole 8 years old with a mess of thick and unruly black hair on his head. But even for him his last few weeks were odd.

The first thing he noticed happened when he was on his way home from school. Harry had just passed the local park he sometimes uses to hide from his cousin when across the road he saw what he could only possibly call a monster, the creature had bright green skin with what seemed to be grey spikes sticking from its body and carrying a large club.

He was just about to dart off as fast as his tiny feet would carry him when a buss rushed past the figure and seemingly taking it with it. Thinking the monster was likely just some teenagers playing a trick on kids with an old costume he returned to his trek home from school.

The Dursely's were not pleasant people by any stretch but after he had accidentally turned his teacher's hair blue they had decided to lock him into his cupboard for a few weeks, Harry however had long since learnt that if he wished to survive he would have to sneak out of his cupboard and take the bits of food no one would notice from the fridge.

So, with his self-professed masterplan in hand, he slowly and as quietly as he could muster pushed to cupboard door open, there was some resistance as though something was in the way but after a moment it opened.

Looking around the door however Harry couldn't see anything blocking the door from opening, he thought maybe his family had placed something to keep him in, but nothing was there, but what he didn't know was his night was about to get a lot more weird and he would have his first real encounter with a monster.

As he crept closer to the kitchen some small banging reached his ears, fearing that his cousin had got up for a midnight snack he pushed the kitchen's door open a sliver and almost let startled scream out before pushing it back down his throat.

Sticking out of the fridge was a strange yellow blob, it seemed to have cat ears if the shape was anything to go by as well as a tail!

As though sensing his presence the creature quickly hopped around on the spot to face him, confirming that yes those were indeed cat ears, and the cat blob creature seemed to be collecting the scraps of food he himself wished to collect on a plate held in its mouth

Its eyes seemed to grow wide in surprise before hopping forward and placing the plate of food on the floor. With its mouth now free of carrying the plate it tried to speak but all harry could make out was a strange static noise as though a tv couldn't find a channel. Harry bent down to pick up the plate of food and by the time he looked up again the creature had vanished

With the encounter of the strange cat blob fresh in his mind Harry settled down on the stiff mattress in his cupboard, wrapping himself in a threadbare blanket to fight off the November chill he slowly drifted off to sleep with dreams of finally making a friend even if no words were exchanged between them.

It wasn't until the next month that something happened again, this time it would truly change his life forever.

Things at the Dursely's had declined further since his meeting with the cat blob creature. They didn't even pretend to feed him anymore leaving him only to take the scraps of food from the fridge at the end of the night. It was one night like this where Harry lay asleep on his bed when without warning the floor shattered with a crashing sound that would carry for miles.

Startled from his sleep and hitting his ear to stop it ringing he barely registered the rift now taking up a large portion of the rather small cupboard. What did catch his attention was the long black arm reaching around the room as though searching for something, its singular red tipped finger looking especially menacing to the child as it blindly grasped around the space.

He couldn't escape, the phantom limb was placed in front of the door, all Harry could do was push himself as far against the wall as possible but even that was not enough as finally the hand managed to grab him ankle and pulled him into the rift.

And then he was in the sky and falling fast, he saw an island but that was all he was able to gather at the speed he was falling.

He couldn't stop the scream that flew out of his mouth as he plummeted towards his certain doom when suddenly a familiar yellow blob impacted with the side of his body, pushing him out of what ever sort of wind tunnel that was pushing him down, he was still falling but now he seemed to be falling at a gentler and less leg breaking upon impact speed.

Harry may be safe from the physical impact, but he was still only an eight-year-old child plucked from his bed by a mysterious hand and dragged through a reality breaking portal. He barely hit the ground safely when his consciousness failed, the last thing he saw was the yellow cat blob looking over him with an expression of deep worry upon its face.
