"Would you like to be reincarnated?" She suddenly said with a slightly devious smile.

After the (admittedly slight) shock wore off, I took a moment to think on it. After a moment of deliberation, I asked: "What's the catch? And why did you choose me out of all people?" Normally, asking that to something that was clearly way more powerful than I am could be seen as an insult, I would imagine. However, I got quite literally nothing to lose at that point, so I might as well find out everything I could and get the best bargain out of it.

Contrary to my expectations, she smiled. "I am now more convinced I chose correctly. As for your questions: The catch is that you will need to do something for me in your next life and I chose you due to your personality."

"My personality?" I asked, prompting her to reveal more information. Why was I so set on obtaining information, you ask? Simple. I have seen, read, and heard a lot of stories like this, but the characters never seem to ask the most basic of questions to find out their situations. It infuriates me. For all they -no, we- know, beings like this are trying to make us their slave through magical contract or something. No thanks. I'll do my damnedest to find what she really wants, thank you very much.

She seemed to expect the blank look that resulted from my internal monologue if her silence was anything to go by. Honestly, that is creeping me out. Nevertheless, she still answered my prompt. "Yes, your personality. You stayed calm despite your current unique circumstances and take all this in stride, trying to make the best of it. Those are qualities I am looking for. Also, since you are probably wondering: No, I can not read your mind. I can, however, hear what you said during your life. You realise you talk a lot to yourself, right?"

'Great. So she knows pretty much everything about me. Fantastic bargaining position.' I thought to myself sarcastically. I sighed. "A couple questions then, if you don't mind."

"I don't mind. Go ahead." Again, she seemed to know exactly what was going through my mind. She probably even knew the questions I was gonna ask.

I held up my index finger. "First, what do I call you? It would be a lot less awkward for me if I knew who I was talking to."

She smirked, apparently anticipating to see a fun reaction on my face from her following statement. "You might have heard of me. I am Gaia, the world goddess." Cue…..the lack of surprise on my face. Honestly, having what amounts to plant hair narrows down the possibilities significantly. She pouted. "Why are you not surprised?"

"I thought you knew everything about be?" I smirked. Finally I got her out of her rhythm. "If you did not want me to deduce who you were, you should not have appeared before me with plant hair. Not that I dislike it, mind you. First time I have seen it in reality."

Now it was her time to sigh. "Why did you ask me…" She trailed off. "You did it to throw me off my game, didn't you?" She said indignantly.

"Yes." I replied, slightly smug. "Anyway, can we move on? My second question: What exactly do you need my help with?"

Setting her posture straight immediately, she replied. "The world I mean to send you to has some….problems. You see, the 'me' in that world is sealed up and, as a result, the world is dying. Not only that, but many factions, both magical and mundane, are destroying the landscape. If this carries on, the world will be dead in less than a century." She seemed sad at that part.

"What does it mean when a world 'dies'?" I asked. I already had an inkling, but it is always better to verify.

"When a world dies, all life and magic on it withers away very rapidly. Within a year from the 'death' of a planet, the entire thing will be a desolate wasteland." She explained to me. That was indeed more or less what I thought would happen. Still, that sounds very scary.

"What about my old world? Is that one dying as well?" I was just curious, really. My family is long gone, so I do not have all that much I care about over there anymore.

She smiled a little smug smile. "Who do you think you are talking to?" I facepalmed. Of course, if her imprisonment is what kills the world, then her being here -and not imprisoned- would logically mean that my old world would be alright for quite a while.

"Back on topic then." I said. "Other than freeing you, are there any restrictions for me in that new world?" If she was going to set up a ton of restrictions, I was simply going to say 'no' to her offer.

"Well, other than not destroying the planet -and by extension, me-, there are no restrictions. You can just do what you want. That's what you want as well, right?"

"You are willing to just set me loose on that planet with no supervision? I find that incredibly hard to believe." I tilted my eyebrow a little.

She laughed and then replied. "I don't need to supervise you. I know you have made plans upon plans for a time such as this. I know what those plans entail. I know what kind of person you are. And, most importantly, I know that the beings over on that planet will not allow you to be a threat to them. They were powerful enough to seal me, remember? So no, I do not need to supervise you."

"You are not gonna send me to an incredibly dangerous world, are you? On that note, what world are you planning to send me to?" I admit to having been incredibly curious and willing to go explore such a world, but I was holding back for preparation's sake. One of the things I have always wanted to experience my previous life was magic. Using it. Feeling it. It didn't matter. I also knew, however, that magic could be incredibly dangerous. Again, getting information is paramount. Yes, I am paranoid. I have been reminded of that very often. Anyway, moving on.

She went into a thinking pose. Slightly tilted head, supported by one of her arms, which was in turn supported by her other one horizontally. "Well….that depends on your definition of 'dangerous', I suppose. It has tons of magical creatures, dragons, and powerful humans. So….probably?" She finally answered.

I sighed. "I do hope you intend to send me there with a power of my own and not as I am now, right? I will most likely die very quickly without it. Also, you still didn't tell me what world it is exactly."

She smirked again. "Oh yes, I fully intend to give you a power. One that you know very well I believe." Various powers went through my mind at that moment. Telepathy. Telekinesis. Geokinesis. Pyrokinesis. Invisibility. Flight. On and on, so much so I almost didn't hear what she said next. "As for the world, it is a combination of worlds. One you know as 'Highschool DxD' and another you know as 'Percy Jackson'."

I was silent for a bit at that. Connecting the dots between the 2. I mean, 'Highschool DxD' focuses mainly on the biblical side, with a bit of Norse myth and some others mixed in. Meanwhile, 'Percy Jackson' takes place mostly in Greek myth with some others mixed in as well. Both in the modern era. Both on opposite sides of the planet. I realised they fit very well together, actually. Huh, interesting. Of course, my next thoughts went to sexy ladies from 'Highschool DxD'. After all, that is one of the major charming points of the series. I admit to being a pervert. Not even a small one either. I also admit to making plans for what I was going to do in that world already, even though I should have been on guard still.

A giggle. I forgot Gaia was still here. Whoops. Back on topic. I shook my head to clear it. I can always make those plans later. "That power better be on Longinus level if you want me to take on gods to free you." For those that don't know, "Longinus" refers to an ability that has the potential to kill a god in the 'Highschool DxD' world, which I suppose is now also the 'Percy Jackson' world.

"Better." She simply said. At which I quirked my eyebrow again. She is messing with me.

"You really want me to guess?" I sighed. I have been doing that a lot lately, I realise.

"I'll tell you if you accept to my offer." She said with her arms folded and, again, a smug smile on her face. She had me and she knew it. Damn my curiosity and strong desire to have magic powers. That, and the fact that the DxD world is quite sensual at pretty much all times. Seriously, who would say 'no' to this? However, I got myself to at least ask one more thing. "How do I know you speak -and spoke- the truth?" After all, that was the crux of the matter. She could have been lying to me the whole time.

She did something I did not expect. She made an oath. "I swear on the Styx that I have only told you the truth since we met face-to-face." The glow on her body and the rumble of lightning in the background told me the oath was accepted.

Although I was still sceptical, I decided to take the shot. If she fooled me, I was going to try my damnedest to make her pay for that. "Fine. You got me. I'll do it. I admit I did not expect that. Where and when will I appear?"

She smiled. "About time you get around to accept this." She sighed. "I expected this, but that was still very exhausting." She stood straight again. "You will be re-born in London, England. Approximately 7 years before Percy's birth and 1 year before Issei's." I nodded. A bit of quick mental calculation means that I will have around 19 years before Percy starts having trouble and around 17-ish years before Issei gets attacked. At least, I was pretty sure Percy was around 12 years old at the time of the Lightning Thief and Issei should have been around 16 years old, on account of being in high school at the time. I was absolutely going to involve myself in those events. Would be a waste not to, to be honest.

I grinned. This was going to be fun. "I am ready." Nothing more needed to be said.

Gaia chanted something that I could not understand and started shining brightly. The 'floor' beneath me lit up in a circle with complex patterns. The last thing I saw was Gaia's name and some question marks floating above her head. 'Wait, how did I miss that the whole time.' I thought right before darkness filled my vision.

AN: Well, there is chapter 2. Chapter 1 was supposed to be a hook of sorts. You know, make it somewhat interesting. This chapter was meant to show more of David's thought process as well as introduce the setting and objective more properly.

Writing conversations is not my forte. At all. Still, I hope I did a decent enough job.

Before you ask: no, Gaia is not planned to be part of the harem. I might change my mind at a later date, but that would still be a long time from now.

I'm still trying to find the proper chapter length for me. For now the plan is to end every chapter at a point that fits. Stuff like plot twists, sudden reveals, transitions (like this chapter), and other things like that.

Let me know if anything was particularly bad or good, please. Criticism is more than welcome. I am just starting out after all.

Next chapter will be the intro of David's main ability and the training he does to get to the necessary level for DxD and Percy Jackson. I mean, come on, we are talking about gods here. David needs quite some strength to keep up with them. See you next time!
