Destruction, the stench of death… it was everywhere. She looked to the right, burning homes, to the left a pile of broken bodies, up a cloud of black smoke in the freezing night sky clouding out the moon. All Glenda could do was look forward and keep moving like she always did, she learned long ago closing your eyes only made the stench of Death stronger. She saw in the corner of her eye a younger hunter throwing up from the sight of the mangled bodies and felt bad for him. No one was ever truly prepared to see a mountain of bodies the Grimm left behind. From her reports this was only Supposed to be a Grimm extermination and rescue mission, but she should have expected something much worse otherwise Ozpin never would have sent her.

She forced herself to look around seeing the full extent of the damage. Almost all the houses in the small lakeside village around here were ablaze, those that were not had been damaged. Ranging from broken windows to not standing anymore. There were piles of bodies being sorted through in a vain attempt to identify the corpses. So many many piles and still, the cleanup crews were taking out more bodies they found in houses.

While some hunters were pulling out bodies, others were out chasing off and killing the Grimm. They had come to feast on the still warm human flesh they smelled. Other hunters were battling the flames trying to contain them and save some houses. Glenda made her way to the lake and took out her weapon. She may use her riding crop at school but that was just a tool to focus her semblance though, in the field she used her real weapon. A silver metal tanbō with two black steel blades on each side, one being longer at 7 inches, and the other being only 5 inches. Both were incredibly sharp; if she needed more range with her weapon she could extend it into a full staff. In addition to that, it houses dust to increase the power of her semblance; its name is Daemonium Interfectorem (Demon slayer in Latin). She focuses and reaches out with her Semblance and water from the lake begins to glow purple with the effect of her power. A giant ball of water rose from the lake face and moved over the raging fires putting them out. Finishing her current task she went to find the head Hunter to figure out what to do and what happened.

"Hello, would you be in charge here?" Glenda asked as she approached a short woman with a battle-ax that many others were crowding around talking to.

"Yes I am, Hello I'm Crimson Rover," she said noticing Glenda

"Glenda Goodwitch, it's nice to meet you." the Huntress replied holding out her hand which Crimson took and firmly shook

"Ah your the person Ozpin sent I was wondering when you would arrive, Thanks for putting out the Fires no one here had a strong enough semblance to put it all out like you, we were really worried it would spread to the treeline and make the entire forest go up in flames," she quickly explained

"I'm glad I could help, what happened here?" asked Professor Goodwitch.

"Well, It would appear this was a faunus fishing village… and a group of prejudiced humans came and slaughtered them… all the negative emotions summoned the Grimm and they picked off the rest of the faunus and butchered the human aggressors. Now we're here cleaning up this mess." she quietly explained to the shocked professor. It sickened Glenda the way faunus were treated in the common society… but this. Things like this made it hard to believe that the ones who started all this shared her title of human.

"Are there any survivors?" She asked, trying to keep her calm composure.

"There are a few human survivors, we couldn't find any faunus still alive though," she reported crestfallen

"Well what will you have me do now?" Glenda asked not wanting to waste time that could be used to save lives.

"Well I have hunters in the forest driving off the Grimm so that's handled for now if you could help search the ruined houses for survivors and bring any bodies you find for the coroners to tag and try to identify," she said with a tired sigh. Glenda simply nodded and went to start her work.

Hours passed and dozens of bodies had been found, but still the number of surviving faunus remained zero. The corpses of the faunus were harder to look at as the wounds they had were the kind only man could make, like skinning some of them, always cutting off the animal part of them, and in some cases the already broken bodies were found by Grimm and mangled even more… The part that made Glenda throw up was when she found her first faunus child. The gore she found him in was something she had never seen before and hoped she would never again. It was absolutely revolting what the attackers did here, not sparing even the children.

Glenda made her way to two corpses she saw on a doorstep, both human and both obviously killed by Grimm. The very recognizable claw and bite wounds adorning their bodies made it obvious. As much as she didn't want to think it she did,

"they got what they deserved" she said quietly to herself.

She moved some debris from the entrance of the severely broken home and entered Daemonium Interfectorem grasped tightly in her hand. She looked around a few rooms before entering the kitchen finding two more bodies, both skinned and cut into pieces. This was obviously the work of the human attackers not the Grimm, it sickened her. She moved the bodies by the door then made her way upstairs looking around there for any more bodies. Glenda made her way into the bedroom and looking at the broken room, there was obviously a struggle here, some blood was on the floor and a bloodstained broken knife lay in it. She saw a closet blocked by a fallen bookshelf and she got the strong feeling to look in it, but she couldn't waste her time here; she had other buildings to search… but it just called to her. With a flare of her semblance and a flick of her wrist she tossed the bookshelf away from the door. Going to open it only to find it locked. She was about to walk away when it called to her again and she knew it would bug her forever if she didn't look so she shoved her blade in the crack of the door forcing it open. Inside the closet, she found some simple clothing and a large wooden box. Now she had to look in the box as it called to her too. What Glenda found in the box was something she could never be prepared for.

There laying in the box was a baby, It couldn't be any older than a few weeks. Probably not even a month. No visible injury to it but no sign of movement. It just layed there quiet with its tiny eyes closed and a blanket wrapped around its small body. Glenda stumbled back surprised but rushed forward looking for signs of life when she couldn't find any. She put her weapon on her belt then quickly picked it up in a panic holding her ear to its chest. At first, she didn't hear anything but then she heard a small heartbeat and could feel the small rise and fall of its chest as it breathed. Glenda put her hand to its head and sure enough, it was burning hot, it was sick but it was alive so she had a chance to save it. She ran down the stairs and out of the house, she kept running till she found Crimson

"I found a live one!" she yelled as she approached her Crimson's head snapped around and she ordered someone to get a medic. After a moment three people were all around the small child and another few moments passed before Glenda was told to go back to vale to get the child to a hospital. Glenda quickly boarded the Bullhead still cradling It in her arms. The 45-minute ride to the hospital was the longest Glenda ever had as she held it in her arms trying to make sure it was still alive.

When they arrived at the hospital Glenda rushed it to the waiting medical staff at the ER who quickly took It from her and hurried inside. She followed and they asked her to wait In the waiting room as they began work with the sick infant. Glenda felt so helpless as she sat in the waiting area hoping that the little one would survive. She pulled out her scroll and texted Ozpin, telling him she would most likely not be coming back to the school that night, he would need a substitute for her classes. He asked what happened and she told him what was going on and he said he was coming to the hospital. Glenda put her Scroll away and flagged down a passing nurse

"What is going on, the Child is it going to be okay?" she asked concern in her voice

"Oh you're the one who bought that little faunus boy?" asked the nurse. "I'm afraid to say he is very sick and is severely dehydrated. But the doctors think he will be alright with proper treatment and medicine." she said with a small smile placing her hand on Glenda's shoulder "your son is gonna be okay ma'am," the nurse says before walking away.

"N-n-no he's not my son-" Glenda stuttered after the nurse who didn't hear her and was already gone. Glenda sat back down in her chair determined to stay till she was sure the chil- well now little boy would be okay.

She sat there reading over some lesson plans in her semi-uncomfortable waiting room chair when Ozpin arrived

"Well it seems you've been through a lot tonight," he remarked as he took a seat next to her with a thermos of his favorite drink in his hand and a cup of fresh coffee in the other. He handed her the cup much to her appreciation.

"I have, the destruction was far beyond anything I have seen in a while," she said, still trying to forget the skinned and mauled bodies that littered the ground. Ozpin placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder

"I'm sorry but they needed someone with a strong semblance to put out fires and you're the only one I knew that was close enough to help on such short notice. " he explained to her

"It's fine I have seen worse, I just wasn't prepared that's all," she responded

"So the faunus child, how is it now?" asked Ozpin taking a sip of his hot cocoa

"He's a little boy. The nurse said he was sick and dehydrated, but that he is expected to get better. Though I haven't had the chance to talk to the doctor yet." she reports

"Ah a boy, you said his parents were killed?" he asks.

"Yes I found their bodies before I found him," she says, still remembering what happened to them, she could only feel immense pity for the small boy, to lose both parents before even getting to know them… this was a fate no one deserved perhaps she would give her own mother a call tonight.

After that Ozpin must have seen the slight discomfort on her face and they talked small talk for a while before a doctor came out and met with them.

"I can only presume you are the small boy's parents?" he asked before Glenda could sputter her response Ozpin explained for her.

"No, I'm afraid his parents were killed. My associate here found him and brought him here."

"Oh professor Ozpin, it's a pleasure to meet you, my boy goes to your school," he says, his eyes widening as he realizes who Ozpin was.

"How nice but if we could hear how the Child is doing?" he responded dismissing the doctor sensing Glenda's eagerness for news.

"Yes of course, The boy is going to be fine. We would just like to keep him overnight for observation and to keep him on an IV as he is still dehydrated. I suppose we should call child services and make arrangements for an Orphanage. But anyways if you would like to see him that would be okay now." he said Glenda hearing the word Orphanage zoned out for a moment before realizing he would have to go and start a lonesome life, and it broke her heart.

They entered the room and saw the small crib containing the little boy with an IV attached to him, he was sleeping now as they observed him. Glenda hadn't really focused on his looks when she was taking him to the hospital but now she saw him fully… and he was so small, so innocent, he was really very cute even. They just stood and watched him as he slept, eventually taking a seat and sitting with him, but that was alright, Glenda was just happy to see he was okay. One of the nurses came in and attended to him waking him and making him cry but it wasn't loud wails like most babies made it was quieter and sounded almost like a dog whimpering.

"What kind of faunus is he?" she asked the nurse

"Well we can't be certain quite yet as he is not old enough but we believe he is a Hyena faunus, he already has all his teeth and his jaw structure is about 10 times stronger than normal humans," she explained while picking him up " would You like to hold him?" she asked the small boy still crying in her arms Glenda thought about it for a moment before nodding yes. As she took him still crying into her arms as she really got to look at him, he was small, a little under the average size of a baby around his age, he had soft slightly pale skin and she could see his sharp little teeth in his mouth, his little face was cute even if he was crying.

The little boy stopped crying and blinked a few times, opening his small eyes… he had the most beautiful eyes. They were deep blue and almost glowed, he was beautiful, started to make little cooing noises and small baby sounds and held his little gloved hands out. Glenda held on to him with a firmer hold with her left arm, and played with his hand with her right hand, grabbing her finger and holding it tight, in this moment Glenda was filled with a feeling of joy, and relief, and fear wondering what would happen to this small one in her arms.

"Wow you're a natural!" the nurse said with a large smile spreading on her face.

Without even noticing it Glenda was slowly rocking him in her arm and in response to his cooing she was making small faces and cooing sounds herself when she noticed this she blushed lightly but didn't stop rocking him as she slowly fell asleep in her arms again. They let her and Ozpin stay with him for a few more hours before they said they should leave. A man representing an orphanage entered to begin plans with the hospital, but Ozpin pulling a power move was allowed to stay and help but sadly Glenda was sent home. She spent the entire night with thoughts of the small boy.

Over the course of the next week she couldn't remove him from her thoughts, she was always thinking about him and she was afraid for him until on Friday she couldn't take it anymore and made her way to Ozpin's office.

"Professor Ozpin, I wish to talk with you about the faunus boy I found earlier this week," she announced

"Yes I remember what about him?" he asked with an almost knowing look on his face before sipping his drink again.

"I want to know what happened to him, sir," she said, still a little on edge.

"If I remember correctly he was going to be brought to an orphanage in the city," he told her

This was unacceptable. An orphanage was no place for an infant, especially one as small as him.

"Sir, this is unacceptable, can't we find someone to take care of him?" she asked

"Well, they are looking for someone now, but I don't know anyone who would want or could take care of a child or another child. " he responded

"Surely you can think of someone," she said, feeling more depressed.

"I'm sorry Glynda I don't have anyone coming to my mind." He said in an apologetic tone.

Almost desperate now she began to think of a solution who could she think of! Who could she think of! … herself… no that was ridiculous… but she couldn't think of anyone else, "you're alone," but she could give him a good life she had plenty of money to support them both, "you're a 22-year-old woman with no husband," that's fine I can take care of him she argued back in her mind, "what can you give him?" I can give him a home, and give him love "this isn't a good idea" she didn't care she had to take care of him she just had to!

"I'll do it." she suddenly said, not noticing the smile that spread over his face.

"I'll take care of him, I'll... I'll adopt him," she said, sputtering out her words, almost not believing the words that came out of her mouth.

"I'm glad you said that," He says with a smile "I Promise I will do everything in my power to ensure you get him."

"Thank you sir… but what about my job?" she asked all of a sudden because she loved her job… but if she had to she would walk away from it to take care of the little one.

"Oh don't worry about that, I will make sure you will keep your job. I'll give you maternity leave while you figure out your life with him," he said, sliding a piece of paper to her. she looked at it and was shocked it was a check for 25 thousand Lein made out to her from Ozpin personally

"Sir?" she asked looking at him

"It's a gift. You'll need some money for the adoption fees and other baby needs. I also think you may need a new apartment for a while, as a battle school isn't the most suitable place to raise a child. You can probably move back in after he grows up some but for now, an off-campus life would probably be for the better." he explained. Glenda felt a great amount of gratitude for him and thanked him profusely.

In about a week Glenda had moved into a new apartment and began the adoption process. While she was going through all the steps to adopt her boy like the visits with him and random home visits and lots of paperwork. Her coworkers and even some students gave her presents and money in preparation for her new son. And finally after 1 month, 17 days, and 10 hours she received notice that her application to adopt The little boy was approved and in the middle of class she lost her composure and jumped up in excitement yelling out in joy. The final step was she had to go before a judge and be declared the boy's rightful legal guardian, his mother and it all went smoothly. She exited the building with the cooing boy, cooing at him herself in joy. She made her way home with him soundly asleep in her arms.

"What's his name?" asked Ozpin "if I'm correct I don't think he had one when I first met him."

"Well the state gave him a temporary name, but I didn't care much for it so they allowed me to change his name," she said, wrapping his blanket around him a little better.

"Oh, and what would the name you gave him be?" He said looking as Glenda looked incredibly naturally with him in her arms.

" I named him Jaune," she said as her little one made a small sound in his sleep and cuddled closer.

A new bond developed between the two as she brought him to their home, and little did she know her story with him would be a great adventure for the both of them as she raised this small faunus boy.
