Ch5
Sam was sitting in the garden of their home, enjoying a beautiful day while working on her laptop, immersed in writing her new book. The sun caressed her face as her mind explored the mysteries of the universe.
Meanwhile, Jack was in his office reviewing various reports that had landed on his desk. Since Sam's accident, he had made the decision to do most of his work from home and would only travel to Washington D.C. when absolutely necessary.
Sam was so absorbed in her writing that she was startled when her cell phone began to ring. Even though she was no longer part of the military, she still answered the phone with her last name out of habit.
"Carter," she answered, recognizing the number on the screen but not expecting what would come next. "Samantha, it's Landry," the familiar voice on the other end of the line said. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything important."
Sam settled into her chair, paying attention to the unexpected call. "No, General, you're not interrupting anything. How can I help you?" she responded curiously.
There was a brief moment of silence before General Landry spoke again. "I want to offer you an opportunity to rejoin the Stargate program. I'd like to meet with you and discuss the different options we have on the table right now."
The words resonated in Sam's ears, filling her mind with a mix of emotions. She hadn't considered the possibility of returning to the SGC after everything that had happened, but the idea alone sparked a twinge of excitement within her.
"General, I'm not sure what to say," Sam replied, trying to find the right words. "I've been through a lot in the past few months, and I'm not sure if I'm ready to return to the program."
Landry showed understanding and respect for her concerns. "I completely understand your position, Samantha. Take the time you need to think about it. I want you to make the right decision for yourself. I just wanted you to know that we're here for you and that you would be welcomed back."
After saying goodbye, Sam placed the phone back in its place and fell into thought. The idea of returning to the SGC was tempting, but it also meant facing new challenges and adapting to her new physical reality. She knew she had to talk to Jack, evaluate all the implications and possibilities before making any significant decision that could affect her life and her future.
Sam closed her laptop and left the garden with determined steps. She knew she had to talk to Jack and share the news she had just received. She found Jack in his office, engrossed in his reports.
"Jack," Sam called softly from the doorway, hoping to get his attention.
Jack looked up, and his eyes lit up upon seeing Sam standing there. "What's going on, honey?" he asked curiously.
Sam approached him and stood in front of his desk. "I just received a call from General Landry," she began, searching for the right words to express her feelings. "He wants to meet with me to discuss the different options I have for rejoining the Stargate program."
Excitement reflected in Jack's eyes as he listened to Sam. "That's fantastic, Sam!" he exclaimed excitedly. "I'm sure they'll offer you a job as a scientist within the base. You wouldn't have to worry about off-world missions. It would be an incredible opportunity for you."
After carefully considering the offer and discussing it with Jack, Sam made a decision. She felt that it was the right time to explore the opportunities that the Stargate program offered her. She decided to accept the meeting with General Landry and learn about the available options.
Sam picked up her phone and dialed the general's number. After a few rings, Landry answered: "Landry."
"General, it's Samantha Carter," Sam said with determination. "I've decided to accept your offer and I'm willing to meet with you to discuss the options for joining me to the Stargate program."
There was a brief silence on the other end of the line before Landry replied, "I'm pleased to hear that. I'll be glad to meet with you."
Jack offered to drive Sam to Cheyenne Mountain, as he knew she still felt uncomfortable driving her adapted car. Carefully, he helped Sam into the vehicle, and they headed towards the military base.
Once they arrived at the base, Jack insisted on accompanying Sam to the security controls, concerned for her well-being. However, Sam thanked him for his kindness and assured him that she only needed him to accompany her to the parking lot. Recognizing her determination, Jack nodded and waited in the car while Sam headed towards the main building.
As she walked through the corridors of the SGC with her crutches, Sam noticed the curious and admiring looks from some of her former colleagues. She knew it had been a long time since their last encounter, and many were aware of her accident and recovery. Although she found it a bit intimidating, she felt encouraged by the implicit support in those glances.
Finally, she reached General Landry's office. Upon entering, Sam found the General sitting behind his desk. The General's gaze landed on Sam, and she could feel his attention. Although she was used to working under his command during her years at the SGC, the current situation made her feel a bit uneasy.
"Samanta, it's a pleasure to see you again," Landry said kindly. "Thank you for accepting the meeting. We have several options for you as a scientist, but I'm pleased to tell you that we'd like to offer you the position of Head of the Science Department."
As she listened attentively, Sam became increasingly convinced that she was making the right decision. The passion for science and the exploration of the universe still burned within her, and this was a unique opportunity to continue pursuing her dream. After a fruitful and promising meeting, Sam and General Landry agreed to proceed with the process of rejoining her to the Stargate program.
Leaving Landry's office, Sam walked through the corridors of the SGC once again, this time feeling a mixture of nostalgia and excitement.
Once outside the main building, she caught sight of the parking lot in the distance. She walked confidently towards it. As she approached the car, Jack got out of the vehicle and welcomed her with a proud smile on his face.
