Eda POV
" Who dares to disturb I, the King of Demons?" King roars. Ha, he sounds so vicious! It's adorable, and judging by the look on Luz's face, I'd say that she agrees. Her hazel eyes are filled with awe as she looks at the baby... whatever the heck he is.
" Aye que lindo!" She squeals. What in the hell does that mean? Aye que lindo? Is that some weird human language? Strange kid. King freaks out and hides himself in my hair, again.
" Ah! Eda, who is this monster?!" He screeches. A look of hurt crosses the girls face, and I instantly feel bad for her again.
Luz POV
I'm not a monster, am I? Well, I suppose to a cute little demon like him I would be. After all, I;m just a human, and we humans aren't really all that pretty. And, a lot of us have plastic installed in our bodies to give us prettier features like bigger eyes, a smaller nose, bigger breasts and asses. I really don't get the point of that. I mean, sure, I'm a bit on the ugly side, but that doesn't mean I should change the way I look, does it?
" King, this is Luz, the human. She's here to help us with our little... Situation." Eda says. I knew it. I fucking knew it. She just wants me to do something for her, and then I'll be cast aside like garbage, again. Why does this still surprise me. I've lived in eight different foster homes, and they all just kept me so the government would give them money to use for anything except taking care of me. I should be used to it, so why does this still hurt so badly? Did I actually think she'd care about me? Was I really convinced she'd want a hideous orphan like me?
" Oh. Yay!" The tiny demon says excitedly. What is her situation? And why should I help her deal with it? She's just going to get rid of me afterwards.
" I'm not liking the sound of this situation." I tell her honestly. Eda sighs a bit and asks me to let her explain. She uses one of her spell thingies and tells me the story of King. How he was the mighty King of Demons until his magical crown was stolen, leaving him the tiny bundle of joy I see in front of me now. The crown was stored inside a force field that only a human can break through, for whatever reason. Seriously, is it just me, or is that ridiculous as hell. Why not make it a portal that only, I dunno, a zebra, could get through? You're less likely to see a zebra in the demon realm than a human. That way, whatever was in there would be more protected.
Dang it, am I really going to do this for them? I look at King and sigh. I can't even begin to imagine how important this must be to him. Besides, Eda already helped me escape from the guard guy and healed my hand, so I might as well do something to return the favor, right? After all, it would be selfish not to. And I wanted to prove the orphan keepers wrong about me being nothing but a selfish, unwanted little street rat, didn't I?
Eda POV
Please kid, just help me with this. I know that the story was mostly bullshit, but it means so much to King. That crown was so important to him. I just want to make the kiddo happy, even if it comes from a place of lies. He's a good demon-kid, and I can tell that you're a good human. Do it for the baby, Luz. I know that you have enough compassion in your heart to do that, don't you?
Luz POV
Fine, I'll do it. But only because I want to make the baby demon smile. After all, he is freaking adorable. I mean, look at the little baby! He's adorable!
" Alright, let's go get the little guys crown." I say with a smile. The tiny demon jumps into my arms and hugs me tightly. Haha, he's adorable! Cutest little guy ever, I swear!
King POV
She's going to get my crown back! She agreed to help me steal it back! She has to be the coolest human in the entire universe! I mean, she doesn't know me at all, and she's stealing a magical relic back for me! I can't believe this? She's incredible. Eda grabs me from the human and picks up her staff. The human follows us outside and hops onto the staff behind us.
" So, where are we going again?" She asks.
" Somewhere super fun! The Conformatorium."
" The... What?"
Eda POV
" The Conformatorium is where they send anyone deemed 'unfit' for society. People like... well like us, kid." I tell her. Luz cocks her head.
" Like us?"
" Misfits, Luz. People who don't conform to society's rules and expectations. I can see it in your eyes. That's you too, isn't it?"
She nods once, but won't look up. Wow, her world really did break her, didn't it. No matter, once this is over, she's never going back there again. Not unless she chooses to.
I land in a hidden patch of woods near one of the towers and help king down.
" Okay, I'm going to distract the warden while you two get into the tower and find King's crown. Got it?" I say, looking between the two kids.
" Yes, ma'am." Luz replies. There's fear and sadness in her eyes. Oh, dammit kiddo. I know that you're freaked out, but I promise that you'll be safe. And I promise that I'll never let anyone hurt you again. I'm sure that you've had someone say that to you before, and I'll bet that it was a load of bullshit too, but I'm not messing with you. I'm not lying either. You'll be just fine.
Of course I can't tell her that yet. It's a bit too soon for that, so instead I just teleport them up to the window and promise to meet up with them later, and silently promise myself to look out for my new daughter. I will die for that kid, and I will always protect her from everything, even if it's myself.
