AN: Hello all! This is my first fanfic on this site, and I can assure you, this will be the only author's note. As stated in the summary, this is a self-insert fic, where I am a citizen in the MCU, who gets 'gamer powers'. I really like gamer fics but hate how they typically list the full character sheet every time it updates. I won't be doing that, instead every five chapters, I'll put an update of stats. I often get dreams that come true, or seem to be repeated in real life, and thus my characters first 'power' if you could call it that will be a sort of intuition, a glimpse or snapshot of things that could happen. Not actual prophecy or clairvoyancy, or knowledge of the whole MCU timeline. I think that's all about it for explanation at the start of this, I hope you enjoy!
It was early February when I dreamt that Tony Stark would get kidnapped. So when I saw on the news that he was missing I wasn't too surprised. The whole media storm that followed was entertaining, especially after I dreamt of his eventual escape. It was a few months away however, and I still had high school.
Days filled with APUSH and Calculus, seemed to drag on and on. The only upside was my afternoon nap in English 5-6. Junior year was proving to be easier than the first two years, and I was really looking forward to my last year. But for now, I have two more months of classes, one week of finals and a whole summer to get close to my crush at the pool.
"Mr. Michaels?" My APUSH teacher Mr. Simmons called on me, breaking my daydreams.
"Uh-" I scanned the board, and then the projector screen, trying to figure out what his question was. "I-I gotta be honest Mr. Simmons, I wasn't really paying attention." Cue the laugh track of my peers and Mr. Simmons disappointed stare. He walked across the classroom, stepping down the aisle to my desk. He rested his yardstick across the top of my desk.
"And just why were you not paying attention in my class? History is just as important as your science and robotics club young man."
"Sorry sir I know it is." I had to make up a lie quickly, "It's just...with everything going on, y'know, Tony Stark captured and all, I'm kinda stressed. Like how do we know other people won't be taken too? My mom works for the government, will they want to take her too?"
"Oh..." My lie seemed to work to make him uncomfortable. "well, I'm certain that won't happen. Um, anyway, the battle of Tippecanoe took place in 1811. Who won the battle? Miss Tomlinson?"
I kinda zoned out again after that. I went back to planning my robotics final project. It would eliminate the need for fracking, by well I don't really want to bore you with the details, but it sends shocks down and receives feedback like a dolphins SONAR. Anyway, that wasn't the only time I zoned out in class. I even zoned out in my physics class, which I never do. It seemed like my 'prophetic' dreams started to happen more frequently, even pushing their way into my day dreams. I saw a redhead being shot by some guy with a metal arm, real or fake, I couldn't tell you.
I also saw some pop quizzes my APUSH teacher threw at us before our big national test in a few weeks. That was a big help. Towards the end of April, my dreams seemed to die down. Until I saw Tony Starks press conference. What a shitshow that would turn into. I gathered a bunch of my friends to hang out the day I knew he would host the press conference. When the breaking news interrupted the Office rerun on Comedy Central, I made several small bets I knew I would win. Something that I did quite often, making at least $50 every time.
As the press conference came and went, so too did the summer days. I watched as the Stark industries stock dropped, and then dreamt of it picking back up again after a few months. So I did what any smart person would do, I bought some stock. I took the money I earned from mini-bets, and some left over cash from my afterschool and summer job, and bought 150 shares at $113 a share. Boy did I hope this dream of skyrocketing stock would come true. I spent basically my entire wages made at the pool on this venture.
Speaking of the pool, boy was that fun. My first week was nothing but sunshine and tanning. The in-service week was extremely fun, just bonding with my new coworkers and getting to know my crush, Carlie Smyth. We had like three classes together over my total high school career, and I don't think she noticed me at all until the first week of work. Tyler, one of my robotics buddies who graduated a few years back and worked as a manager at the pool, did me a favor and made us partners for the first two weeks of swim lessons.
So not only was I better able to talk to her, I was forced to be next to her for two weeks. And if things went well, we could request to be partners again.
"Hey Jackson." I looked up from writing the swim report cards to see Carlie standing at the end of the table.
"Hey Carlie. I'm just finishing the report cards for this week." I said, "Did you want me to leave some for you?"
"Oh yeah totally. Don't do all the work without me." She said with a smile. "I wanted to talk about the next sections partners. Ally said it wasn't too late to request a partner, and I was thinking since we did so well together that you might want to be my partner again? You totally don't have to, or anything."
"No I wouldn't mind at all! You were right to say we worked well together," I smiled back, "I think a couple of the other guards are going to the beach tonight for a bonfire. I know rookies don't always go to the first one but Tyler said it was fine if I came. Would you wanna come too?"
"Um...Yeah. That sounds like it could be fun." She said, brushing some of her chocolate hair behind her ear, "I don't know if I could go though, I don't have my license yet."
"Oh...well, I could-could drive you if you wanted?" I proposed, hoping she would say yes.
"Yeah! Awesome, I'll text you my address?" She said, and I thought I could see her blushing.
"Sounds good, I'll pick you up around 7?" I asked, unable to get rid of my smile.
"Yeah, sounds good! I'll see you then." I watched her walk away, and I'll admit, I stared at her butt for a bit longer than I should have. But God sue me, I'm but a simple teenage boy. As she disappeared around the corner, I smiled again, realizing I had an unofficial date tonight.
