CHAPTER 1: THE JOURNEY BEGINS
Nia grabbed Klamar's hand and he pulled his mother up behind him on the sea dragon. Kalmar saw Nia smile at him happy to know that she too was going to be part of the amazing story waiting to be told in the years to come. The dragon's wings opened and started to flap, sending leaves flying away then they were up in the air. Kalmar liked the feeling of the cold wind on his face it reminded him of the time when they were going to the Green Hollows on the Enramere for safety. But there seemed to be more danger since Kalmar was a Gray Fang.
Kalmar remembered how excited Janner was to finally sail a giant ship with Kalmar on the lookout to make sure that they were going the right way. Then he remembered when he turned into a wolf and jumped into the ice, cold water and Janner ran after him. He brought Kalmar close and held on tight to him. Even though he was being clawed and bitten and kicked at, Janner never let go. After all that he did for Kalmar this one last act of Janner was the one that showed his love for his brother the most. Janner stayed by his side until he died grabbing the stone out of Kalmar's hands after telling him that he loved him.
Kalmar looked down at Janner who laid in front of him, motionless with the stone in his arms. Then Kalmar woke up from the memory and realized that he was above the ocean with Janner laying in front of him. He found his hand on Janner's shoulder and his face wet with tears. Kalmar hoped that the water from the First Well would work. If it didn't he wouldn't know what to do without Janner. He felt his mother's hand on his shoulder, then he turned to meet her eyes that were filled with tears and her face wet as well. "Are you okay?" She asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine.", he said as turned to look back at Janner. Although he wasn't fine he was hurt and Nia knew that.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"I don't know if there is anything to talk about. We all saw what happened." More tears started to fill his eyes again.
"I know but, maybe there is something good that we can talk about. Like a good memory that we made with Janner. It's good to talk about the good times with the person that we lost rather than talk about the sad times." Kalmar could agree with that so, his mind started to go back in time and decided to think about a time in Glipwood.
"I remember the time me and Janner went to Anklejelly Manor for the first time. The wind would go through the house and it would make a creepy sound and we were already being chased by Horned Hounds so, we were already scared. And we kept on going deeper into the manor, then pretty soon we were running and screaming like little girls." Kalmar laughed a little bit then turned to see his mom smiling. Then Kalmar looked down towards the ocean, he could see a silhouette of the sea dragons and Artham coming up next to him. He looked beside him and smiled at Artham and he smiled back. Artham looked ahead and pointed, "There it is!", he exclaimed. Kalmar looked ahead and sure enough there was the Green Hollows.
"One step closer to bringing you back, Janner.", Kalmar whispered. Soon the dragons found a clearing near the Blackwoods and landed onto the ground. From above the trees were a bright green but, if you go deeper it gets darker with the lack of sunlight that could get through the big branches.
The Wingfeathers, Sara and Oskar got off the dragons and Artham got Janner's body then stood next to Kalmar who thanked Hulwen and the other dragons. After the dragons left Sara asked, "So, where's the First Well?". Kalmar looked out into the woods trying his best to replay the memory of finding the well. "I found it when Oood was hurt and that happened after we left Clovenfast so, I think that if we go towards Clovenfast we might be able to find it." That sounded simple but that meant having to go through Dang (again). Normally it would be instinct to run away from Dang because of the dangerous creatures in there. Now there were fangs in there too. Or maybe they got killed by the mad creatures.
But Kalmar didn't want to run away, not now, not when they were so close to bringing Janner back to life. He wasn't a hundred percent sure if the First Well would work but, he had faith it would. They found their way east towards Clovenfast then, they hoped they would find the First Well. Kalmar had a small feeling that things were going to be harder than they thought. Even harder than the last time he came here. And Kalmar wasn't the only one who was thinking this, everyone else was too. But Artham had the strangest thought.
The thought that maybe there was something more in there came into his mind. And it seemed to have come out of nowhere. But more what? He thought. What is in there that I need? Or maybe there's something that needs me or someone that needs me. But who? What is the Maker going to do? Artham didn't know what these thoughts were or where they came from. He just kept thinking and asking himself questions as they went to Clovenfast to find the First Well. To bring Janner back. To bring him home. Back to Anniera.
