It was raining.

And unlike the boiling rain on the Boiling Isles, this rain was cold.

Colder than the twenty-three-year-old Boiling Isles native Eda Clawthorne could ever imagine. It was fitting that she would get caught in the rain like this in the human world after the brutal week she had.

Raine had left.

They broke her heart and joined the Bard Coven.

Eda didn't blame them for leaving her. Not in the slightest. But it stung that another person she cared about left her behind.

It stung that once again, she was all alone….

But this was the end result of her actions. She actively distanced herself from everyone that cared about her due to her curse and her known dislike of the Coven system and Emperor Belos.

Maybe this is what she deserved.

Eda shivered and curled up on the bench, her wet orange hair clinging against her pale skin.

No, this was what she deserved.

Just then, the rain stopped pelting her body. Eda looked up and saw that there was a strange thing above her head.

"You know, you're going to catch your death out here," A kind voice spoke up from behind her.

Eda turned around to see a bespectacled young woman with her slightly curly brown hair tied in a ponytail. She wore blue scrubs and a brown bomber jacket, and there was a concerned expression on her face.

"It's freezing out here," The woman stated with a frown. "Are you okay?"

Eda laughed slightly and replied, "Never better! I run pretty hot anyways so this cold is nothing!"

Eda's body betrayed her with a shiver, which caused her to quickly look away in embarrassment.

"Right," the newcomer teasingly drawled. "Wanna try telling the truth now?"

Eda's shoulders dropped. "I'm…. going through a hard time but I'm a tough girl, I'll bounce back," Eda replied, but the damn rain kept getting in her eyes, causing them to water.

The woman frowned and looked at the building behind her. "Look, the storm is supposed to get worse, and as tough as you are, your tough ass is going to get sick if you stay out here. Why don't you come to my place?" The woman suggested. "It's in the apartment building behind us and maybe we can talk about what you're going through. Or just warm up and eat some of my homemade soup. No pressure either way."

Eda opened her mouth to refuse but then noticed the concerned expression deepening and as much as she hated it, Eda was too tired to keep up the tough act. "Sure…." Eda surrendered.

Warm brown eyes danced in success as the woman offered a smile and said, "Perfect. Now come on, let's get you up there and get some warm food in you. Maybe we can offset the sickness I'm sure you'll get from being out here for who knows how long."

And it was there, in the middle of a fierce rainstorm, that Eda Clawthorne met Camila Noceda.

"What did you say your name was?" The thirty-eight-year-old Wild Witch asked as she stared down at the human.

Eda didn't understand why but the human felt so familiar to her. Was it the voice? The face? Eda couldn't tell, but as the fourteen-year-old girl's bright amber eyes glittered in amazement, Eda couldn't help but remember those warm brown eyes from her past.

"Luz huh?" Eda laughed as she pocketed handfuls of snails into her hair. "Well, Luz, that was pretty clever... for a human."

"That's kind of a weird thing for another human to say," Luz stated.

Eda shook her head with a laugh and started to reach for her bandana. "Oh, dear child," Eda started as she hopped on the table and removed the bandana, revealing her pointed ears to the entire group of shoppers. "I'm not like you. I'm Eda the Owl Lady, the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles!"

"Whoa! You're a witch! I knew witches were real!" The girl exclaimed with a bright smile, her eyes shining with delight.

"Of course we are!" Eda exclaimed. "And you're looking at the most real, respected, feared, powerful and sexy witch there ever was!"

But little did Eda know, this meeting was going to change her entire life.

The Owlet with Amber Eyes
Episode One: Lessons on the Sunken Palm

"I can't believe that jerk crushed my crown!" King pouted with his arms crossed.

Eda chuckled and finished the final touches on dinner for King, herself, and her newest roommate, Luz. When Eda first met Luz two days ago, she didn't expect much but the girl quickly proved her worth by helping Eda bust into the Conformatorium, start a prison break, and defeat her twisted admirer in Warden Wrath.

Since then, Eda had taken her chance to get to know the human girl.

She quickly discovered that Luz had a very strong stomach, having been able to digest the food of the Boiling Isles, and also took quickly to the place.

Sure, it did take a run-in with Adegast yesterday during Luz's exploration of the Isles to force Luz to realize that the Boiling Isles was nothing like her favorite book, but Luz didn't let that deter her from wanting to stay.

Eda also realized that Luz was open-minded and let her emotions guide her through every decision she made. And while that was a positive trait, Eda would need to temper it as it could lead to trouble down the road.

All in all, things were going swimmingly well. But, Eda did have a plan for Luz today, and that plan was to start with her end of the bargain in teaching Luz magic. She wasn't sure how a human would be able to learn magic, but her mother didn't raise a quitter in Eda.

She was going to teach Luz magic come Hell or high boiling water. And to do that, was to take her to a place where her teacher once took her.

Hopefully, this worked.

"Don't worry, King," Eda started as she sat down a plate of griffin eggs and chimera steak in front of him. "We'll find another way for you to regain your power. I promise."

King nodded and Eda rewarded him with a rub on top of his head, which made the little "King of Demons" let out a growl of happiness.

"I'm going to check on our newest housemate, sit tight," Eda instructed and then left the kitchen. Once the human girl decided to stick around, Eda had shown her to her spare room. She was going to offer the closet but Hooty reminded her of the room that was filled with all of her junk.

So once all of that was transported into the basement, something she forget they had, Luz was situated in the cleared-out room. 'I'll have to get a bed for her eventually, depending on if she stays longer,' Eda thought as she walked up the stairs and toward Luz's room.

"Alright, old girl. While your first day on the Boiling Isles as a Witch Apprentice didn't go well, this day is sure to be better! So let's get out there and rock and roll!" Eda overhead Luz tell herself as she got to the door.

She gave two quick knocks on the door and announced, "Hey, Human! Breakfast is ready!"

"Uno momento, por favor!" Luz's voice requested from the other side.

Eda paused.

It may have been fourteen years since she's last heard it, but Eda knew that language.

'This human speaks the same language she did,' Eda thought as that familiar phantom pain in her heart ached with both longing and regret.

Eda shook her head.

She had to let that go.

She needed to let that go.

The door opened and Luz stepped out, now wearing a pair of white pajamas with cutesy cartoon birds on them. Eda was familiar with birds but the ones that were situated on Luz's pajamas were unfamiliar to her. "What type of bird is that on your clothes?"

"Oh, this is the shorebird. More specifically, the Tringa solitaria," Luz answered. "My favorite bird of all time. Well, next to Owls of course."

Eda snorted.

"Well, don't let Owlbert hear that. His head is already big enough," Eda joked as she motioned for the young girl to follow her. "So, how long are you going to be here?"

Luz shrugged and then answered, "Probably until the end of that stupid reality camp thing. I hope I can learn magic and become a witch by then."

"Being a witch takes a lot of time and patience," Eda instructed. "It's nothing that can be taught in such a short time, Luz."

"I know," Luz replied. "That's why I'm going to work twice as hard to achieve my dreams while I'm here!"

Eda grinned.

Of course, she would get a real go-getter as her apprentice. It was funny how much the human reminded Eda of herself when she was younger.

When she was still free….

"Well, let's get some food in you. Can't be a witch without having a full stomach, right?" Eda suggested.

Luz nodded but Eda noticed a look of discomfort on Luz's face as she rubbed at her chest. "You alright?" Eda asked.

"I'm okay," Luz answered with a wide smile. "My chest has been a little sore since I got here. Nothing some food and some adventure can't cure!"

Eda grinned.

"Got that right."

Luz: The Owlet with Amber Eyes

"So, what's the plan for today?" Luz asked as she dug into the delicious food in front of her. "Brewing potions? Magical duels? Putting bunnies in hats for Magicians to pull out of them? Oh! What about spells? Are we going to learn some spells? When do I get a magic staff? Was I supposed to bring my own runes?"

Eda chuckled as King noisily ate beside Luz.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, slow down, kid. As much as I like that continued spunk after yesterday's debacle, we're still starting slow," Eda informed the young girl. "With that said, we're taking a trip to a location to the countryside."

"Yes!" Luz hissed in excitement and then sang, "We're going on a field trip. We're going on a field trip. We're going on a field trip. I wonder what we'll find."

"Hopefully some good gear and potion ingredients," Eda announced. "I do want to make one thing clear. Judging from that little ditty you just sang, this won't be a little walk in a human park. This will be very challenging and may push you to your breaking point. Are you ready for that?"

"Of course! Call me Rock Lee because I'm all about that hard work!" Luz exclaimed as she punched the air.

"But I thought your name was Luz," King said, confusion in his voice.

Luz laughed and gave King scritches under his chin, which King tried to combat but then melted at the touch. "You are so adorable," Luz told him.

"I'm not adorable," King softly whined.

"So, what do I have to do?" Luz asked.

"That's my girl," Eda proudly announced, which made Luz duck her head with a bashful smile. "Before we begin, I will need you to go into town and pick a few things. Are you able to do that?"

"I won't let you down," Luz promised with a determined expression on her face.

Eda didn't know why, but she believed her.

"King, you'll also be going with her," Eda announced as she handed Luz a small list of the things needed for this trip, along with a few snails.

"B-But I have an army to raise. Why do I have to go?" King whined in displeasure.

"Why can't I go by myself?" Luz asked.

"Despite the adventure you went on yesterday, you're still fairly new to this world, and don't take offense to this, kid, but after yesterday, you're very susceptible to getting lost, enslaved, or eaten," Eda answered. "And King, do I even need to remind you that you work for me too? Unless you want to revisit the paying rent discussion."

King started to vibrate in his high chair, a surefire sign to Eda that he was going to do his patented squeal.

And Eda was quickly proven right as King let out one of the longest, cutest, high pitch squeals of rage that could melt even that cold-hearted Belos' heart.

Eda turned to Luz and noticed that the girl's amber eyes were glittering in pure delight that matched the absolute beaming smile on her face. "Oh my gosh…." Luz breathed as King continued with his squeak of rage. "I love him so much."

"He's like a little tea kettle," Eda chuckled with a fond smile. "Now get out there. We're burning daylight!"

Eda: The Owlet with Amber Eyes

After two hours of waiting, Luz and a very tuckered-out King returned with a sack full of the items they would need.

Ten bottles of Elixir from Morton's.

Two utility belts.

Two swords.

Two masks.

Two hooded cloaks.

And a mini cauldron.

"Alright. King, we'll be gone for a few days. Hooty is in charge," Eda instructed.

"You can count on me! Hoot!" Hooty exclaimed while King grumbled.

"Hooty, No sugar for King after seven, do not feed him after midnight, and do not let him watch scary stories on the Crystal, we clear?" Eda asked the bird-tube.

Hooty wiggled his body in agreement.

"Perfect, now, let us be off," Eda told Luz, who clapped in excitement as the two walked out of the door, straddled Eda's staff, and flew off into the afternoon sky.

"So, where are we going?" Luz asked.

"We're going to Sunken Palm!" Eda exclaimed. "It's an island to the west of the Boiling Isles. When I was younger, my teacher in Wild Magic took me there to learn all I could about magic. It's a place steeped in magical energy."

"Oh!" Luz breathed.

"It's also rumored to be where the Savage Wars took place," Eda continued.

"Savage Wars?" Luz asked.

"Yeah. It's a war that predates everything on the Isles. Back when Wild Magic reigned supreme. Before a certain asshole took his place on the throne," Eda explained. "There is so much magic there, it's warped the entire island."

"Sounds dangerous," Luz noted.

"Oh very, but my teacher once told me that the Sunken Palm is the only place to be truly in tune with magic. Not even the Knee can compare to it," Eda explained. "Besides, it's a tradition from the teacher to the student to embark on this journey together during the student's first week of apprenticeship. What teacher would I be if I failed to continue it?"

"Wow," Luz whispered.

"Getting cold feet?" Eda asked.

Luz turned her head and smirked, and for a moment, Eda could see herself in the human's face.

"Never," Luz confidently answered.

Luz: The Owlet with Amber Eyes

"Wowsers," Luz whispered in amazement as she stood beside her new mentor, her eyes gazing at the new location.

To the west, Luz could see large chunks of the ground defying gravity by hovering high in the air, with little trails of silvery-white light connecting the chunks of earth.

To the east of her, there were large crystals of various colors sticking up from the ground, and to the north of them, there was a large field, and with her eyes, she could see ghosts. What type of ghosts, she couldn't tell, but she could see through them, therefore they were ghosts.

And they seemed to be in a loop of some sort, with their bodies glowing with a faint ethereal blue light.

"Welcome to the Sunken Palm," Eda introduced with a proud tone and spread arms. "Do you smell that air, Luz? It's the smell of wild and beautiful magic!"

Luz took a deep sniff, only to feel a slight discomfort in her chest again, which made her cough in alarm. "I do. It smells like….. fresh snow…. Grass when it's wet with dew in the morning….and peppermint?" Luz answered with a hint of confusion.

"Wow, you got a nice sniffer there," Eda laughed. "I thought I was the only one that could smell magic, and not even that well, all things considered."

"I'm smelling magic?!" Luz exclaimed.

"Damn right," Eda answered. "The peppermint smell is coming from the Field of Remnants to the north. The fresh snow is from the Crystalline Forest to the east, and the weird dew-covered grass smell is coming from the Valley of the Corrupted Gravity."

"Whoa…." Luz breathed.

"What else can you see with those eyes of yours?" Eda inquired.

Luz focused her eyes and her irises constricted, allowing her to "Zoom in." She didn't know how or why, but she always could do this. It was strange to her. While she didn't see anything past the Spirit Field, she did notice that on the very top of the slab of floating earth in the valley, there were ruins.

Another thing she noticed was in the strands of silvery-white magic that connected the floating rocks, there were two strange designs within a circle, with one of them floating up, and the other that flowed down. Luz took out her notebook and copied down the two strange emblems.

"There are ruins at the very top of the valley's rocks," Luz noted. She then turned to the Crystalline Forest and while it was faint, she did notice a crystal tower in the distance. "And there is a crystal tower in the distance past the Crystalline Forest."

Luz rubbed her eyes and blinked them rapidly to "Zoom out" and saw Eda's impressed expression. "A good sniffer and good eye-sight," Eda noted. "Very impressive."

Luz blushed and scratched the back of her neck with a smile. "It's not all that impressive," Luz mumbled.

"While I'm not going to blow smoke up your ass, I will tell you if you've done something impressive, so take the compliment, kid," Eda instructed with a raised eyebrow.

Luz nodded.

"Now, when my teacher brought me here, it was to show me three lessons," Eda said. "One: To show you how majestic magic can be. Two: To show all types of magic. Three: To show the mystical side of magic. And four: To show how dangerous magic can be. Are you with me so far?"

Luz nodded.

"So, the first thing we're going to see is how dangerous it can be," Eda told her as she pointed two fingers ahead of them. "To the Spirit Field, we go!"

Luz nodded and the pair started their trek. "So, Eda?" Luz started. "Why did you have me buy the two utility belts, swords, masks and hooded cloaks?"

"You think I brought you here just to teach you magic?" Eda asked. "I'm going to teach you how to defend yourself too and to teach you stealth. In our world, there are many dangerous things out there. Things that will look to eat you, enslave you, or just plain kill you. As you now know from yesterday."

Luz somberly nodded.

"No apprentice of mine is going to be so defenseless while she's under my wing, you hear me?" Eda remarked. "By the time you leave, if you leave, you will be a magic-slinging, sword-using, shadow of a witch."

Luz looked at Eda with an awed expression on her face.

"Did your teacher teach you all of that too?" Luz asked.

"She sure did," Eda replied.

"What was her name?" Luz prodded.

"Her name was Vin Kelsier. She was the strongest witch of the Boiling Isles. She was so strong that spells would float past her like mist due to the amount of magic she held in her body. She could naturally dispel anything that came her way. And at times, she could even change the emotions of others," Eda answered. "She taught me everything I know after I met her."

"Wow, that means you must be very strong," Luz theorized.

"Even at my weakest, I could face down the Emperor himself," Eda told her. "But, these bones are getting old, and eventually, I'll wind up too weak to do magic."

"Why?" Luz asked.

Eda frowned for a moment and then answered, "Old age does that to you, kid. Simple as that."

Luz didn't know why but she felt like that wasn't the whole story if she were to judge Eda's tone of voice, but she shrugged off her suspicion and asked, "What was she like?"

Eda let a wistful smile form on her face. "When I first met her after trying to steal from her. That made her very distrustful of me. But something made her take me in. To this day, I don't know what. After a year of being under her tutelage. When she finally learned to trust me, I realized that she had infallible optimism, even in the face of disastrous situations."

Eda paused to look around to make sure nothing dangerous was coming, and then continued, "She was also very reckless and prejudice regarding the Emperor's Coven and that blowhard Emperor himself. She was also always cheerful, always smiling….But I knew that she always used that mask to cover her true feelings."

Luz opened her mouth to ask another question, only to stop when Eda held her hand out in front of her. "Stop," Eda instructed.

Luz stopped in her tracks and looked at her mentor in confusion. "What's wrong?" Luz asked.

"Nothing, just that we're here. Welcome to Field of Remnants," Eda replied.

Luz looked and now that she was at the edge of the field, she could see what those ghostly figures were. They were ghosts of witches and demons, trapped in prisms of the past, their bodies moving and then resetting to their original positions like a rewinding tape.

"What is this?" Luz asked Eda.

"Echoes of the Savage War," Eda solemnly answered. "Souls trapped in their last moments. Unable to move on, unable to stop their pending demise. Follow me."

Luz nodded and walked behind Eda, her eyes watching the remnants in wonder. "What kind of magic could have done this?" Luz asked her mentor.

"There are many theories. Some say it was Titan himself who did this to smite those that used his magic for such bloodshed. Others say it was Emperor Belos who caused this with his magic to stop the war. But, it may have been the witches of that time as a last resort in winning the war. Either way, whatever spell that caused this has never been seen again," Eda answered as she stopped in front of a particular remnant.

"Take a look at her," Eda softly told Luz.

Luz nodded and looked at the remnant.

The remnant was that of a tall, lanky woman.

She had sharp bright chartreuse irises, pale skin, and long, spikey platinum-blue hair. She wore a dark gray witches hat that had a long brim, which caused a shadow to cover half of her face, which made her eyes pop out more, and a jagged and torn witches cloak, which showed off her gray tunic, grey belt, black sleeves, black leggings, and finally, her dark grey gloves and boots.

In her hand, she had a scythe that was made out of the bones of what looked like a vulture.

She had various scratches on her face, but it looked like she was in a fierce battle with her opponent, until the remnant staggered forward, held her chest, and then forward, only for her image to stop and flicker, now at the start of swinging her weapon.

"Who is this?" Luz whispered.

"My grandma," Eda answered. "Ryoko Hakubi. Kind of a wild name, but it was the savage times. All the names were wild back then."

"Whoa. She looks so cool," Luz whispered.

"She truly is," Eda laughed. "At least, Lily and I always thought so. Heck, we became witches because of her. But my birth mother never liked to talk about her. The only reason we know about her is due to Lily finding her pictures in the attic one day. Even then, my birth mother kept silent about what happened to her. I didn't even know she was a part of this war until Vin took me here…."

Eda sighed and gazed at her grandmother and said, "I never got a chance to meet her. I wish I did. She looks badass."

"She really does," Luz agreed.

"I want you to sear all of this into your memory, Luz," Eda whispered. "Because as grand as it feels to wield magic, it is also dangerous and can cause irrevocable damage to not yourself, but those around you. Locking you in a prism in a constant state of death and revival, your soul never knowing peace…."

Luz solemnly nodded.

The two remained silent for a moment and then Eda suddenly exclaimed, "Welp! Now that that's over, let's explore the beautiful side of magic! Time to travel through the valley! Follow me!"

Eda walked away but Luz continued to stare at Eda's grandmother. "I'm sorry you're trapped in there, Miss Ryoko. Hopefully one day you'll be free," Luz whispered. She then gave a slight bow and chased after Eda.

But had she been paying attention, she would have noticed something watching the pair from a distance.

Luz: The Owlet with Amber Eyes

Luz was humbled by the experience of seeing her mentor's grandmother.

She thought that she couldn't be humbled anymore since the incident with Adegast a few days ago regarding her situation but she was wrong. All of her life, she thought that Magic was supposed to be this beautiful and mysterious power that could do amazing things.

But Eda had shown her how tragic and dangerous magic could truly be. Luz admittedly felt unsure if she wanted to learn magic now, after seeing something like that.

Luz turned her head to look at her mentor, who was looking around. Luz noticed that the older woman had been silent since they left the Field of Remnants. Had she been shaken up at seeing her grandma in the cycle she was stuck in?

"Eda?" Luz murmured, which prompted the woman to turn to her.

"What's up, Kiddo?" Eda asked.

"You've been quiet for a while. Is everything alright?" Luz asked with concern.

Eda looked down at Luz and answered, "Truthfully? That's the second time I've seen her in my entire life."

Luz looked surprised at this. "Really?" Luz asked.

Eda nodded.

"When Vin took me here and I discovered her, I was devastated. I foolishly held out hope that Lily and I would meet her one day and tell her that her being a witch inspired two little girls into being witches too," Eda explained. "Even after all these years, it's hard to see her."

"W-When you found out, did you want to stop using magic?" Luz asked.

Eda grew silent for a moment, her eyes looking away from Luz to look ahead. "For the better part of two days, I did stop using magic," Eda revealed. "It felt, wrong to me to wield something that could cause the soul of my grandma to be trapped in a perpetual cycle of fighting and death. But that feeling is what made my mentor know that she would continue to teach me. It's why she bought me here."

"And it's why you bought me here, too…." Luz whispered.

Eda looked back at her and softly ruffled her head but didn't say another word.

The two walked in silence for the next hour, mostly due to Luz being deep in thought regarding magic.

Should she continue down this path, and run the risk of either creating or using the same magic that caused the misery left behind in the Fields of Remnants? Or should she stop and just enjoy her time in the Boiling Isles before she goes home?

"Kid," Eda softly said. "We're here."

Luz looked up only to jump in alarm.

There she stood at the base of the Valley of the Corrupted Gravity. It was so much larger than she expected it would be when they first arrived at the Sunken Palm. "Whoa," Luz breathed out.

"That was my same reaction," Eda laughed as she approached the trail of silvery-white light. Luz immediately followed after her until they both stood in front of the trail of light. "This is gravity trail," Eda informed. "Once we step into it, it will take us to the next suspended rock."

Luz looked at the trail of light and remembered the strange emblems within them. Once again, she zoomed in on her sight and saw the familiar sigils. "Is this safe?" Luz questioned.

"You might feel a little dizzy the first time around but other than that, completely safe," Eda replied. The older woman then offered her hand and said, "You might want to hang on."

Luz nodded and took her mentor's hand and together, they stepped into the trail of light. The second Luz entered, both she and Eda were lifted off their feet and sent into the air. Luz could feel her body being untethered from the ground below and felt completely weightless.

"Eda!" Luz screamed in excitement as Eda laughed.

"Pretty nifty, isn't it?" Eda asked with amusement. "We haven't even got to the best part yet. Look ahead."

Luz did as instructed and watched as the sun slowly set behind the horizon, casting a soft glow on the rest of the Boiling Isles. "Whoa," Luz whispered in awe. Luz then felt her body start to rotate until she was looking down on the ground below and her feet were in the air.

"What's going on?" Luz questioned.

"We're being oriented to the gravity on the mass of earth above us. In two minutes, the ground we're looking at might as well be the sky," Eda answered.

Luz felt the familiar weight of her body as she landed on the rock beneath her feet. Luz thought she would be panicked or sick by this, but she had always had a strong stomach, so maybe that's why she felt completely normal.

The two walked out of the trail of light and Eda looked at her and asked, "How are you feeling?"

"I feel…. Normal," Luz answered.

Eda seemed surprised by this and asked, "Not even a little bit queasy?"

"Nope," Luz chirped. "Mama's stomach is like a steel wall." Luz patted her stomach with a wide smile, only to wince. "I patted myself too hard."

Eda looked amused.

"Well, "Steel stomach," why don't we continue up the valley?" Eda suggested. "We have to reach those ruins before night falls."

"Really? Why?" Luz asked.

"Does there have to be a reason?" Eda asked.

Luz paused and then shook her head.

"Good, because if we don't make it to the ruins, the Virage will get us," Eda announced as she walked away.

"V-Virage?!" Luz screamed. "What's a Virage?!"

"Better hurry up," Eda teased.

"E-Eda!" Luz yelled as she ran after her. "What's a Virage?" Luz asked once she caught up to her mentor.

"A Virage is a strong magical creature created during the Savage Wars," Eda started. "Pure magical energy, created into a protector of the Valley."

"Will it be at the ruins?" Luz asked.

"No idea," Eda answered with an added shrug. "The Valley is…. Quite honestly, vaster than what you see right now. The ruins are only a halfway point. No one has been brave enough to go to the very top."

"Whoa. So, is it the Virage that makes this the Valley of the Corrupted Gravity?" Luz asked.

"No. But you'll find out soon enough who did this," Eda said.

The two then stopped when they encountered another trail of silvery-white light going from the front of the rock they were on toward another rock in the distance. "Ready to jump?" Eda asked.

Luz nodded.

Eda took Luz's hand and together, the two jumped up (Down?) and fell into the trail of light, where they rocketed toward the next floating rock. Luz felt her body tilt to the left until her feet was beneath her again and the duo landed.

Now the ground was to her left and the sky was to her right. "Don't stop now," Eda instructed as she motioned to the trail of light ahead of them. "Let's keep moving."

Luz nodded and the two ran ahead to the next trail of light and walked into it. As Luz floated higher, her body slowly turned until she was beneath Eda right-side up. "Get ready to jump again!" Eda instructed.

"Got it!" Luz shouted.

The two floated into the air and Luz looked up to see that they were approaching a large mass of land. "Now!" Eda instructed as she jumped off. Luz waited until she saw Eda standing and jumped out of the trail and landed on the ground in front of her mentor in a crouch.

Luz stood and saw the large ruins behind mentor, who turned around and said, "Come on. What we came in for is inside."

Luz nodded and the two walked toward a colosseum-like building. Once the two walked inside, Luz let out a soft gasp.

The first thing Luz noticed was the large and beautiful tree that sat in the middle of the ruins. It reminded Luz of a Cherry blossom tree in full bloom, except the petals that flowed around them were a beautiful shade of cobalt blue.

The second thing Luz noticed was the lush and beautiful blue grass that stretched against the ground, where small glowing flowers, shaped like a crescent moon, flowed with the wind.

The third thing she noticed was in front of the tree, there was a simple cross and a necklace that dangled from it.

The last thing she noticed behind the tree was a glass-stained image of a young witch in various stages of their life. The witch had short navy-blue hair and warm gold eyes behind a pair of glasses.

It showed her as a small child with her parents, then she grew into a young woman, with longer hair, wearing a flowing white dress. She was standing next to a blond man who had his arms wrapped around her extended mid-section.

It then showed the woman in old age, with a witch's hat hiding the upper half of her face as she stood at a grave with a tree behind it.

"What is this place?" Luz asked.

"Before the Savage Wars, this was a known place where witches would battle to solve their grievances and perform duels," Eda explained. "Right before the wars, this tree was found here, alongside this grave. No one knows who the witch is or who the grave belongs to, but what we do know, is that the witch in this picture was a strong one, who created the valley and its guardian. To leave this place untouched by anyone or anything….."

Luz observed the stained glass and then looked ahead at the lonely grave. "She was so strong that she did this with her magic…. Her last act of love….." Luz whispered.

"Yeah," Eda softly replied. "Magic can be anything you want it to be, Luz. It can be beautiful and gentle as the ruins. But it can also lead to the Field of Remnants, or be used to enact cruel violence."

Luz stared at the area for a moment and then looked at her mentor. "Eda? I want to continue to learn magic," Luz finally spoke. "And I promise that I will never use your teachings to do something as dark and as cruel as whoever created and then used whatever spell that caused the field, or any acts of cruelty…."

Luz then looked back at the tree and softly whispered, "I want to use magic to not only protect others but to also make something truly beautiful like this…."

"Luz…. I truly believe that one day, you will…." Eda whispered.

Violet: And that was the the first episode in it's entirety. Since I have a lot of chapters on AO3, it will take quite some time to get it all up to date. So until the next posting!
