Chapter 28 Crossroads
The morgue was one of the last places Bianca or Wyatt wanted to be. The two have all been too familiar with death since early childhood. But if they wanted to fix what Phoebe's girls have done then they had no choice. Sneaking in was no issue with Bianca's magic. A simple cloaking spell and they were good to go. The two were lucky to find that both George's and Chris' slabs were right next to each other.
"The authorities took them away not long after I left the cousins and Phoebe and Aunt Paige," Wyatt explained.
"Not surprising," Bianca replied. They pulled out the slabs and the sight of the two fallen Halliwell witches was still far from pretty.
"You haven't told me, your plan?"
"I'll explain everything when we get to the French Quarter."
It was Bianca's magic that took herself, Wyatt and the two dead boys over to the French Quarter witches. Wyatt was standing alone in a corner of the room. A few French Quarter witches stripped his younger brothers of their clothes. Only to redress them in clean white robes and anoint them with oils.
"Bianca and your elders…"
"Yes." A witch said now facing the werewolf.
"The ritual how does it work?"
"Hecate, we call to her and ask her to resurrect your brothers."
"Has this been done before?" Wyatt asked.
"Not to our knowledge no Mr Halliwell."
Bianca was impressed at the statue that stood before them in a local bayou, which was sacred to the witches. Hecate's statue, Bianca could only guess was a mere fraction of her divine glory. She held two torches one in each hand. The torches had the three faces of the moon engraved on them. She knew her request being last minute was far from ideal for the French Quarter witches. But she knew all the good Christopher did and all the great things he could do if he was still alive and the French Quarter witches knew that too.
They waited for the sun to set, the sky to turn dark and the moon to rise. To move Christopher and George's bodies to the bayou, Wyatt was tasked with digging two graves with a shovel to bury his brothers. He had to keep his eyes away from the boys as he covered them with dirt and soil. After the two dead witches were buried Wyatt walked over to a few of the French Quarter witches. The Priestess a woman in her late sixties made a gesture with a hand starting a fire in each of Hecate's torches.
The light hurt Chris with its brightness, he prayed silently for it to fade. Otherwise, he was sure he would get a migraine. He wanted to shout for the light to fade and for his surroundings to become clear. But he couldn't it was as if, he had forgotten how to speak.
"Hey there." An unfamiliar voice said. Christopher's vision became clear and he turned to face the owner of the voice.
"What the Hell." Chris swore he was sitting down in the passenger seat.
"Language,"
"How are you here?" Chris asked confused this wasn't possible. "You're supposed to be dead no offence."
"Non-taken." Leo smiled, taking in the sight of his youngest child. "Though, I'm not the one who isn't supposed to be here."
"I don't understand," Chris confessed.
"You died at the manor when you fought your cousins."
"Oh, my God." Chris swore again, "Wyatt and George are they dead too?"
"Only you and George." Leo replied.
"The girls."
"Alive and kicking, I'm afraid." Leo said.
"I guess Paige was wrong sometimes evil wins." Chris sighed, and he laid back further in his seat.
"It doesn't have to if you don't want it to,"
"Dad, things are different now." Chris shook his head, "Wyatt can't pull a mom and use some Cupid's ring to make things right."
"Caducas Exanima Vita Etha Anima."
"Do you hear that?" Chris asked.
"No, I suspect whatever you're hearing is for your ears only," Leo answered.
"What happens now, we drive off to the afterlife?"
"Not if you don't want to."
"I don't understand." Chris frowned.
"Caducas Exanima Vita Etha Anima." In front of father and son and outside the truck a portal manifested in the shape of the three phases of the moon.
"Someone, I suspect is giving you a choice it's up to you kiddo," Leo said.
"You have no idea how much I want to stay…" Chris confessed. "How much I want to stay and be with you to get to spend time with you, time we never got in life. But Bianca is pregnant and I can't let my child grow up without a father. I'm sorry."
"Don't be," Leo replied as he turned the key in the ignition starting the engine.
"Caducas Exanima Vita Etha Anima."
"Are you coming with me?" Chris asked hopeful that maybe his second chance could also be his father's. Leo shook his head.
"No, but I'll be with you every step of the way to get you there," Leo answered. Leo then drove the pair into the portal!
George found himself emerging from a bright light. That some would fear could blind them. Yet the light didn't faze him at all not in the slightest. What did, however, was something damp being pressed against his forehead. Making him hiss when the light faded. He couldn't recognise his surroundings, he was sure he never set foot in this room. But he could tell it was a kitchen the oven, counters, and fridge-freezer gave that away. He felt wood beneath him so it wasn't hard to guess he was sitting on a chair or stool.
"Stay still," A woman who was pressing damp gauze against his forehead said.
"PIPER!" George gasped. He couldn't deny that Piper wasn't more beautiful in person. Piper's voice sounded far too familiar than he guessed it should have. While she was his mother, they never had the chance to actually be mother and son.
"You've been playing a bit rough with your cousins and brothers," Piper replied as if all of this was normal.
"Rough? How are you here? Who's kitchen am I in? I'm supposed to be in the front room with Wyatt, Christopher and the girls." George rambled on.
"Wyatt is outside alone and Chris is with his father," Piper explained.
"Are you alive? Did we perform some backwards magic that changed everything?" George asked.
"No, I'm not alive, you went real hard on each other," Piper said.
"I'm dead," George muttered his head looking down. Piper gently raised George's chin to have the witch face her again.
"You boys summoned the Hallow."
"We were defending ourselves,"
"There are better ways."
"Caducas Exanima Vita Etha Anima."
"Do you hear that?" George asked.
"Yeah, I hear it perfectly," Piper answered.
"What is it?"
"A spell one fuelled by Hecate's power."
"A spell for what?"
"You're not the sharpest knife in the draw are you?" Piper sighed.
"Hey."
"A spell to resurrect you and Christopher," Piper explained.
"I didn't think resurrection was possible."
"Sometimes, there can be exceptions to the rules." Piper replied, "Now come on onto your feet." Piper put the gauze to one side and grabbed George's hands and pulled him to his feet. She then started to lead George out of the kitchen and over into the conservatory.
"Caducas Exanima Vita Etha Anima." A portal opened in front of the pair in the shape of the three phases of the moon.
"A lot of plants in here." George pointed out.
"I always had a green thumb even in death." Piper smiled.
"What about Phoebe's girls? I'm guessing they're still alive and kicking." George asked.
"I wouldn't worry about the girls." Piper replied.
"It's hard not to, Piper. They killed Christopher and me." George said.
"Just let Mommy deal with them alright."
"Piper…" George started.
"George, just trust me." George then broke away from Piper and crossed over into the portal.
Meanwhile, back in the land of the living Bianca and the French Quarter witches stopped chanting when they saw two silhouettes of fire emerge from the two lit torches. The silhouettes were peculiar as their flames were white not the traditional orange. Each silhouette flew down into the ground one entering each corpse. One hand burst from the ground without hesitation Bianca and Wyatt ran over and together they pulled.
"Christopher!" Bianca said she and Wyatt continued to pull gently yet firmly at the arm.
"C'mon, buddy." Soon after Chris resurfaced with no sign that he was ever involved in an explosion.
"You two worked together willingly." Chris frowned.
"Why wouldn't I work with my favourite sister-in-law?" Wyatt replied.
"I'm too tired for this." Chris sighed, "What about George?" Wyatt made his way to where he had buried George and started to dig with his bare hands until he grabbed a hold of George's shoulders and pulled him up and out of his grave.
"You okay kid?"
"I-I guess." George shrugged.
"Guys, we have a problem." Bianca said the boys' attention turned to Bianca then turned to the sky in the direction of, what Bianca was looking at. To their utter shock, they saw a dark green mist approaching them at an unnatural speed. Wyatt and George ran over to Bianca and their brother.
"George freeze it," Wyatt ordered. George raised his hands without hesitation and made a gesture but nothing happened.
"I can't my magic it's not working," George replied frustrated and scared.
"Chris…" Wyatt started.
"I know," Chris cut in as he held out one hand to Bianca and his other to Wyatt. They gladly accepted. George placed a hand over Wyatt's right shoulder alas again nothing happened.
"We're screwed," George said.
"Whatever happens we'll face it together as a family." Wyatt replied, the four closed their eyes just before the mist consumed the entire world.
