Asami watched her sensei closely as he got the payment for Touma's bounty. She was confused by the sudden dorky ecstatic persona he took on when fighting those shinobi. Truth be told she's been confused about her sensei ever since they joined the Akatsuki. When she first met Tobi-Sensei she found him to be a strong presence one who would not let others walk all over him. She was her first hero. A glimmer of hope that shined on her during her darkest days.

Her parents were killed during the Kiri invasion. They set up post in their small town since it was a significant point to move supplies to their army on the Konoha front. When they passed, she was forced to live on the streets, since the Kiri shinobi decided they needed the house more than an eight-year-old girl. That was four years ago now, and during the last few years she had to lie and steal just to survive. And when she was caught, she was given a beating for her troubles. She felt like darkness had swallowed up her life and was choking the life out of her. Until a kind boy with a scarred face and shinning red eye showed just a tiny sliver of kindness. And thus, she stayed by his side, and he became her teacher to help her become strong like him.

She has become strong, not as strong as she would want but now, she could give low level shinobi's a good beating. And she's grown close to Tobi-Sensei, so much so that now she feels like she has the older brother she's always wanted. He likes to pretend he is keeping his distance from her, but she can tell he cares about her. He'll always make sure she eats and gets enough sleep. He's also helped her with writing, which is why she keeps a journal now.

A thing she has noticed about her sensei is that there is a similar darkness within him, that was within her. However, since they've met Nagato, Konan, and Yahiko and the others from the Akatsuki she could see some of that darkness leaving even when he was in that mean persona. Which brought her to why she was staring at her sensei, just how many damn personas did her sensei have. All though the one today was new and to Asami the weirdest so far, she just couldn't get over the fact that something was going on with her sensei. The personas don't seem like it's a psychological problem, but it seems deliberate, a lie, a way to cover who he really was.

She's come up with some theories as to why, but the prevailing one is that something must have happened to her sensei that has forced him to want to be someone different. Which is what his mean persona portrays. A man that this world cannot hurt no matter how hard it tried. A man who could destroy everything he disliked with the flick of a finger. A man who's only emotion is anger. Someone different than the nice, damaged boy she met in the village months ago.

And now there was this new persona which she thinks it's to help feign some child like happiness he has lost. Either way she can't get over the fact that her sensei decided to show this persona only when he was faced with the Anbu. She knows its not Touma who brought it out since they've faced a few bounties before and the only persona he had was that mean one. No, it was only when the Konoha Anbu had their blades to his throat that he showed the new one. So maybe Tobi-Sensei knew one of the Anbu, so he created that persona to make sure whoever it was had absolutely no idea it was him. She already knew that he was from Konoha she's heard multiple times that the Sharingan belonged to the Uchiha clan from Konoha. She also knew they were a clan to be feared.

"Asami." The voice of her sensei broke through her thoughts.

Good his normal voice. "What is it Tobi-Sensei?" She asked.

"Well, I was just making sure you were okay. You've been spaced out since we left the bounty office, and I was wondering if you wanted to make camp here." Her sensei replied in a tired voice.

Asami looked around her, she didn't notice that they've left already. She also didn't notice that she was tired. Her legs strained against every tree branch she jumped from, and she could feel the weariness on the rest of her body. "Making camp here sounds great, Tobi-Sensei."

"Okay." Tobi jumped down landing in a small clearing, "this should be good enough." Asami landed beside him. Together they set up the tents moved a dead tree by the fire she used a katon to light. Tobi set his makeshift grill that he brought from his weird swirly vortex and set it on the fire while laying down strips of rabbit down on it. Asami sat down on the log and removed her boots.

"Tobi-Sensei can I ask you a question?" Asami asked while she stretched her tired feet.

Tobi let out a sigh, "sure Asami. What is it?"

"Why do you change your voice and the way you act?" She asked softly looking up at him just in time to see him stiffen.

He raised his head so his sharingan was starring at her through the eye hole. "Why do you want to know?"

Asami leaned back thinking carefully about how to phrase her answer, "I was just wondering is all. I like the way you are or were back when we first met. I'm just worried about you Sensei."

Tobi-Sensei starred at her before sighing once again, but not in annoyance more like in understanding. He leaned forward a bit and removed his mask letting some of his long hair fall over his forehead. Asami looked at him in surprise, she hasn't seen his face since the joined the Akatsuki. She noticed that the scars on his right side were still prominent but a tad more faded. His left eye was closed further solidifying her theory that it was missing. Which was weird for her since it was only the right side that was scared. But more than anything he looked tired.

Tobi ran a hand through his hair before turning over the rabbit meat, "I change it because I want to hide who I am to help further my plans for peace."

"Oh, how does it help?" Asami asked trying to further her investigation into the enigma that was her sensei.

"What is it you really want to know Asami?" Tobi questioned his red eye baring into her like it could see through her.

Asami took in a deep breath, "I want to learn about you Sensei, you know everything about me, but I don't know anything about you other than your name and that you are incredibly strong. I know your hiding from someone maybe many someone's I promise I won't say anything. And maybe knowing the truth about you could help me further your plans."

Tobi squinted his eye at her, she could see him fighting with himself. He shook his head, "fine. I'll tell you everything you want to know. But please understand Asami, you can't let anybody know. At least not now."

Asami suppressed the need to squeal in happiness, "I promise I won't sensei."

Tobi smiled softly at her, "the first thing is that my name isn't Tobi its Obito. Uchiha Obito. I was a Konoha shinobi until I was injured thanks to a few Iwa shinobi and some boulders. I was saved by a madman who healed me inside a cave. When I finally left that cave, I saw the girl I loved being killed. It was then that I decided that I wanted to change the world. I want to bring peace because this shinobi system caused the death of someone I loved. It wasn't until I met you that I began to see that people other than myself have suffered as well." Her sensei let out a low chuckle, "I should have realized sooner since one of my former teammates lost his father to a shitty situation that was only brought on by the system in place."

Asami slowly took in the information her sensei just spewed out. He was a little hesitant at the start but once he started it seemed like he couldn't stop. "Thanks Tobi… uh, I mean Obito-Sensei. But why don't you want your former teammate and your friends to know your alive?"

Tobi's smile faded, "Because if they knew I was alive they would have the same questions you do. They wouldn't take the answers as well as you, and then they would ask me to return, but if I did do that then I couldn't achieve the worldwide peace I desire. Which is why I change my personality around others. With Yahiko and the others I figured a more authoritative personality would help me join the Akatsuki quicker. And that other personality earlier today was so that the Konoha shinobi would think of my as some dumb lackey instead of a true threat."

Asami chuckled a little, "I'm glad to know you aren't crazy Sensei. You did have me worried a bit, but you are just trying so hard not to let people know who you really are. But I'm happy you told me; I'm sure pretending to be someone you are not could be lonely. How were you planning on letting people in if they don't know who you are?"

Obito handed her a piece of rabbit meat, "I never thought about letting someone in. I only decided to tell you because you are my student, and my former sensei was big on not having secrets between each other. Also, I'm going to need your help to complete my plans."

"I'll always help you Obito-Sensei, I'll be by your side forever. And who knows maybe once you've brought peace to the world you can return to Konoha." Asami said with a large smile.

"That sounds nice, but I don't think I could ever go back to Konoha." Obito looked down at his food with a sullen look.

"I guess if you don't want to go back, we don't have to. Either way Sensei wherever you decide to go I'll be there, ya know. You're my sensei, and my big brother. I'll always be there, promise." Asami said trying to cheer her sensei back up.

"Thanks, Asami." Obito responded his smile returned onto his face. "Now eat your dinner and go to bed, we have a long way to go tomorrow."

"Okay Sensei." Asami finished her food and laid down in her tent, she was happy that Obito-Sensei finally trusted her enough to tell her the truth. With a smile on her face she wrote in her journal about the day's happenings including her conversation with Obito, and then she went to sleep with a smile on her face.

Obito landed a few meters away from the entrance to the cave where the Akatsuki has made their base of operations. He turned around checking to be sure that no one has followed them, when he noticed that there was no one around other than two Akatsuki scouts he signaled Asami to go ahead and enter. Obito took in a deep breath before following after her.

"Hey Asami, hey Tobi-Sensei!" Konan exclaimed once she saw them enter. Asami greeted her with a hug, while Obito just nodded to her letting her know he did hear her. Obito walked past the two girls who've begun talking about Asami's recent adventure. He quickly scoured the main area not finding the speck of orange he was searching for. While he didn't find that he did find dark red hair, that still reminded him of Kushina.

"Nagato." Obito said in his mimicked voice of Madara.

"Oh, Tobi-Sensei your back. Did your bounty go okay?" Nagato asked. When Obito first met him he was shy and reserved, now however he has been slowly warming up to Obito but more towards Asami.

"It was fine, only a few complications. Get Konan and meet me at Yahiko's office I will discuss what transpired there." Obito responded.

"Okay Tobi-Sensei." Nagato replied before moving to go grab Konan. I guess I could've told Konan to go when she greeted us, Obito thought as he walked to Yahiko's office. Obito reached the door and knocked twice loudly. Yahiko yelled to enter from behind the door.

"I've returned Yahiko," Obito said as he walked into the small office. Yahiko sat behind a short desk that they bought for 15 ryo at a rundown furniture store in Ame. There was a map of Ame on the wall behind him, and two chairs that sat in front of the desk.

"Oh, that's great I was just going over our financials anyways." Yahiko replied.

"Let's wait for Nagato and Konan." Obito said, he leaned on the back wall facing Yahiko who returned to the paperwork on his desk. After a few moments they entered the office along with Asami. "I collected 120,000 ryo for the bounty on Touma. I suggest we use it to set up a station to give the war refuges a free meal. It will help bring more supporters to our cause." Obito explained.

"That's a great idea sensei. Any problems getting Touma?" Yahiko asked.

"Nothing I couldn't handle. There were a few Anbu from both Konoha and Kusa who were after Touma as well." Obito answered.

"Please tell me you didn't kill them. I don't think Konoha will be willing to help us if they found out we were responsible for the death of some of their shinobi." Yahiko pondered.

"No, we managed to escape with the bounty before it led to that. I believe they still don't know of our existence. Which at the moment works in our favor. We need to establish a strong root within Ame before we can extend to other nations. It plays well with your original plans as well." Obito explained. While Nagato and Konan have warmed up to him, Yahiko still had his reservations. Thankfully Obito has been able to talk around his worries. It was simple enough as long as he helped them get stronger to help protect Nagato's eyes and establish peace Yahiko couldn't find fault in Obito other than he didn't like him all that much.

"Fine. We will go with your idea for the money, thankfully the last few bounties you brought in are enough to replenish our food and equipment." Yahiko said. "Now we should discuss what to-" The sound of an explosion interrupted the orange haired teen.

"Now what could that be?" Obito asked mostly to himself as the cave began to tremble with small rocks falling from the ceiling. "Asami get out quickly." Obito commanded. Asamin nodded and took off out the door. Another explosion rocked the large cavern, screams began to come from outside the office.

"What the hell is going on?" Yahiko yelled.

"It seems we are under attack. Stay I'll take care of it." Obito nonchalantly replied. Obito walked out of the office letting his chakra rise to his eyes, his three tomoe sharingan began to spin into the familiar pattern of his mangekyo. Being confident in his abilities however he refused to be crushed under boulders again. Obito stood just outside the office and looked up just in time to see the entire ceiling caving into the cavern. Obito quickly turned around going through hand signs, "Mokuton: Moku Shouheki no Jutsu!" he yelled releasing a wooden dome wall that covered the three Ame teens. The rocks fell banging off the dome and falling through Obito. Asami where are you? Obito asked himself searching through the members and boulders. Another explosion sounded passed the screams and crashing rock. Obito watched in horror as the entire ceiling fell unto the surprised Akatsuki.

Obito rose from the ground using Kamui to stand on top of the wreckage. He frantically looked around trying to find any sign of Asami. A yell caused him to look behind him, one of the newest members was being impaled by a katana at the hands of what appeared to be a Konoha Anbu. Obito glanced from left and right seeing the surviving Akatsuki being slaughtered by not just Konoha Anbu but Ame shinobi as well.

"Asami!" Obito yelled hoping she would come out of hiding. Obito quickly jumped up on to the new opening to get a higher vantage point. When he got to the mouth of the collapsed ceiling, he noticed a large dark brown salamander standing in front of Konan and Nagato. He looked up to see who he recognized as Hanzo holding Yahiko by the throat. Obito took a step to save Yahiko when he heard a familiar voice yelling. He turned to see a man with black hair and what seemed like half his body covered in bandages kick Asami.

"Foolish child." The man spoke in a sickening tone. Obito ran after him going through hand signs and lifting his hand to his mouth, "Katon: Gōkakyū no Jutsu!" A large fireball erupted from his mouth towards the bandage man who jumped out of the way. Obito stopped in front of Asami, "Are you okay?" He asked her.

"Yes, sensei I'm fine. I manage to get out before the roof collapsed, but that man grabbed me." She replied shaking off the hit she just took.

Obito was just about to respond when one of the Konoha Anbu attempted to kick him. Of course, his leg went through him. Obito reached and grabbed the Anbu underneath the chin and twisted his wrist snapping the Anbu's neck.

"Ah, you must be the rogue Uchiha that the Yondaime has been searching for. Do tell how you are able to use Mokuton." The bandaged man remarked. "I had a feeling you'd be amongst these criminals."

"It doesn't matter you won't be alive long enough to tell your Hokage you found me." Obito coldly replied, adding a deep menacing tone to his voice.

"We shall see about that." The man retorted. He quickly flew through hand signs that Obito didn't recognize, "Fūton: Shinkū Renpa!" The man took a deep breath and began exhaling moving his head around. Blades of wind began speeding towards Obito. He couldn't use Kamui since if the blades passed through him, they'd hit Asami who was still behind him.

"Mokuton: Moku Shouheki no Jutsu!" The wooden dome sprouted from the ground surrounding both him and Asami. He felt the wind blades thunk against the dome. Obito could sense the man rushing towards him, it appears that Minato-Sensei didn't tell him about all my abilities, he thought. Obito quickly released a wooden rod from his palm and using Kamui her went through the dome appearing in front of the man. Obito struck forward sending the rod into the man's chest, he made a one-handed ram sign making the rod spring forth multiple stakes from the rod. The stakes pierced out of the man's body, Obito smirked.

Obito watched the man's body hit the ground he then turned around and released the chakra from the dome. The wood returned to the ground revealing an open mouthed Asami who currently had a hand tearing through her chest. Obito's eyes widened, standing behind her was the man he was sure he just killed. He turned around quickly seeing that the body wasn't there anymore.

"You may be and Uchiha, but it seems you do not know the full power of the sharingan." The man said.

No, no, "not again." Obito whispered.

"Sensei…help." Asamis softly said through the blood pouring out of her mouth.

"No!" Obito yelled. He moved quickly behind the man, grabbing him by the back tossing him away from Asami. He quickly caught the falling girl, "You're going to be fine; we'll get you healed in no time." Obito said trying to comfort her, but deep down he knew there was nothing he could do to help her. The familiar feeling of pain, anger, and loss began bubbling up in his chest.

"O-Obito-Sensei, th-thanks f-f-for everything." Asami stuttered out before the light behind her eyes faded away. Obito felt the tears fall down his cheeks, again more tears for the death of someone close to him.

"The life of a criminal is always one filled with danger. It will always be short lived." The man said behind Obito. Obito raised his head from Asami's body and gritted his teeth. The anger fully bubbled to the surface he used Kamui to teleport behind the man, using all his strength Obito kicked the man in the bandaged arm. He could feel the arm cracking underneath the force of the hit. The man flew yards away from him finally crashing into a boulder. Obito rushed towards the man and punched him in the chest sending him through the boulder.

"Danzo-Sama!" someone yelled. Obito turned to see one of the Konoha Anbu running towards him. Obito formed another rod throwing it at the Anbu at a speed he couldn't track. The rod pierced through the man's skull. When the body fell Obito saw Hanzo send a kunai through Yahiko's throat. Ignoring the death of that comrade Obito returned his attention back to the man who killed his student. He was surrounded by three Konoha Anbu who were taking him away, the man coughed up blood but still held a sadistic smile on his face.

"You will not be escaping that easy." Obito snarled running after them. A painfilled scream stopped Obito in his tracks. He turned back to where Yahiko was killed, to see the Gedo Mazo erupting from the earth. He saw Nagato who had black rods sticking out of his back. He reminded Obito of a feral animal. Purple chakra began forming into a dragon like creature in front of Nagato. The red head moved his hands forward motioning the dragon to attack the surrounding Ame shinobi. It passed harmlessly through them, yet they dropped down lifeless.

Obito deciding to ignore that jutsu for now returned his attention back to where he just saw the man, who was now gone. Obito cursed under his breath, annoyed that he let the bastard get away. The one thing that satisfied him, he did know where to find him: Konoha.

Obito returned to Asami's body, he picked her up and held the cold corpse to his chest. "I'm sorry Asami," he whispered to her. Obito raised his right hand aiming it at the ground, he then pushed a large amount of chakra through his palm creating a hole in the ground. Obito then slowly set the body into the hole. Then using a doton he covered the hole. "Both you and Rin didn't deserve to have your lives ended. Not because of me, I promise that I'll create a world were both of you could be alive again."

Obito swirled away from the makeshift grave appearing in front of a crying Konan. "I'm sorry about Yahiko. I know how important he was to both you and Nagato."

"Th-thank you. Is Asami-." Konan began.

"Yes." Obito interrupted. "Unfortunately, I don't know how to bring others back to life, but I do know a way to quickly change this world."

"How?" A distraught Nagato asked.

"We will capture the biju within the Gedo Mazo that you summoned today. All nine together will create a weapon that if used will be able to instill enough fear into this world that peace will bear out of that fear. We would be the gods of this new world, no one else will have to suffer because of the great nations and their shinobi." Obito answered.

"How do you know about this weapon?" Konan asked.

"Because I've lived a long time. I believe now is a good time for you to know my name, I am Uchiha Madara." Obito replied.

Kakashi chased after his ninken, it took a day to find a trace of the masked man, but thankfully Pakkun finally picked up the scent that has led him to Ame.

"Yo Kakashi, be careful I can smell dead bodies up ahead." Pakkun said in his normal monotone voice.

"Okay thanks Pakkun." Kakashi replied. They continued running for a few minutes before the came up to what appeared to be a cave in. However, there were bodies laid out on top of the broken rock, with a quick glance Kakashi could tell that those bodies weren't killed in the cave in. They were murdered.

Kakashi went and examined one of the bodies, he noticed the dead man was wearing the same type of cloak that the masked man wore. He then looked over to some of the other bodies when he noticed that some were Konoha Anbu, but not the Anbu controlled by Minato-Sensei. He also noticed that other bodies were Ame shinobi. The best he could tell it seems that Ame and Root ambushed whatever group that the masked man is a part of.

Kakashi then jumped to the opening to where he could see the collapse originated from. He found more bodies there mostly Ame and Root. He also found what appeared to be two graves. There were two planks set into the graves with the names of the fallen. He hated the idea, but he needed to see what bodies laid underneath the dirt. Kakashi using doton unearthed one of the graves, to reveal a young teen with spikey orange hair whose name was Yahiko. It looked like he was killed by a puncture to his throat. He covered the grave once again.

Using the same process, he uncovered a young girl who Kakashi recognized as the girl who was with the masked man. Asami was here name. He then noticed the hole in her chest, he quickly looked away; it reminded him of how Rin almost died. His eyes fell unto a small brown leather journal that was sticking out of one of her pouches. Kakashi removed the journal and opened it to a random page:

Me and Tobi-Sensei were finally accepted into the Akatsuki today. I'm excited I really like the girl Konan, she is nice. Tobi-Sensei seems to not care about joining but I'm sure he is happy about it as well. At least I hope so, I want to stay with these people. Oh, I forgot they asked Tobi-Sensei to train them as well. They are good but Sensei is just so strong. I don't think Yahiko likes Sensei all that much, it could because Sensei is a little mean right now. Or that stupid mask he wears all the time now.

Kakashi quickly closed the journal, whoever this Asami was to the masked man must have answers to who he really is within this journal. He needed to get this journal to Minato-Sensei quickly. Kakashi remade Asami's grave and began the long journey back to Konoha, feeling happy that they now have a clue.

Thanks for reading! Hope ya'll like the new chapter.

Also don't worry Danzo will get his comeuppance long before he did in cannon, he is now on Obito's radar. I figure this was a good way to move the plot forward and also bring about a horrible end to one of my least favorite characters in Danzo. Who knows I may even throw Hanzo in there as well. I thought about maybe having Yahiko lived but they way I wrote his relationship with Obito it wouldn't work with him still alive and plus I like Nagato's Pein persona. Nagato will go back for Yahiko's body later if your worried about that. I'm also thinking about Obito retrieving his sharingan from Kakashi, but I haven't decided on that yet. I may do it but that also leaves Obito without the rinnegan.

Oh, the final chapter of the first arc will be chapter eight, I hope to have it done by the weekend as long as nothing to crazy happens. I also want to thank you guys for all the support Light of my Life has reached over 1000 views since the last chapter was posted! Anyways please leave a review telling me what you think, I do try to answer every review because I'm so grateful for them.
