I do not own Naruto, Kishimoto does.

Obito ran through the streets of Konoha with a smile on his face, he has finally found it. A gift so spectacular that his grandmother will love. He has spent over three days trying to find a gift for her birthday and just when he was starting to get discouraged a brown-haired girl the same age as him pointed to the precious item he currently held in his hands. He could not thank her enough, and another bright spot to the incredible find was that she even offered to be his friend. Obito couldn't believe it his first friend! He now had two exciting things to give to his grandmother.

His smile grew wider as he quickened his pace, being completely lost in his own thoughts he failed to notice a merchant pulling out a cart full of garbage. The five-year-old boy obliviously crashed into the cart toppling it over and spilling the garbage and the precious item onto the ground. Obito himself landed hard on the dirt walkway forcing the kid to grit his teeth from the pain.

The man pulling the cart turned to Obito, his eyes burning to life with deep crimson, "you again!" he spat. The man quickly stomped over to the young kid, grabbing him by the collar and yanking him to his feet, then above the ground.

Obito tried to kick and wiggle free from the large man's iron grip, "what the hell!"

The man's sharingan seemed to glow in the dusk-ridden light, "I've had enough of you causing trouble and making the Uchiha clan look bad."

Obito looked at the few people gathering around them, all of them were Uchihas. They were part of his clan, a clan to Obito that was supposed to be like a large family. He looked at each and every one of them, all seemed to not care that the young boy was close to being beaten by the man. Obito gave one cry for help before the man's fist clashed into his cheek, once again knocking him to the ground.

Obito sniffled as the tears streamed down his face. The funeral for his grandmother had ended hours ago, yet the young Uchiha refused to move from the grave. A few people came to her funeral, but none had any words to say to Obito. None except his first and only friend. Rin sat next to him, not saying anything. Obito guessed that she had no idea what to say, he wouldn't know what to say if the roles were reversed.

"Thank you for being here Rin," Obito whispered.

Rin gave him a big smile, "of course, you're my friend! And your grandmother was always so kind to me."

Obito's eyes focused on her smile, it was so bright. It illuminated the darkness around him, it showed him that as long as she was around, he'll never be alone. She will always be there to light his way, no matter if he falls off the path or not. She was now the light of his life. And Obito will try everything to not lose this light.

"Obito congratulations!" Rin yelled with a large smile.

Obito flushed, "thanks Rin," he said as he sheepishly placed his hand behind his head.

Rin walked over to him until she stopped a meter in front of him. Obito's heart began to race at the close proximity. "Why-why are you so close Rin?" Obito asked.

Her smile grew, "because I have a gift for you. I know how hard you worked to graduate and I found the perfect gift." Rin reached into her pouch and pulled out a small black-clothed bag and handed it to Obito.

"Oh, you didn't have to do that Rin," Obito said while inwardly thinking that her being here was gift enough. Obito took the bag and opened it, he reached inside and pulled out the small object. Opening his hand Obito's mouth fell and tears began to form. "You found it!" he exclaimed.

"Yes, it took a while but I finally tracked it down. Turns out that jerk took it after he hit you. It's okay I gave him a good knock on the head for you," Rin said with a cheery smile.

Obito raised the small locket and opened it. The picture inside showed the smiling faces of his parents holding a baby Obito. His father wore this locket when he died, his grandmother thought it was lost but Obito was able to find it thanks to the help of Uchiha Mikoto. She was always kind to Obito despite the fact her husband disliked him. He was going to give this to his grandmother on her birthday, her last one. She passed a few weeks later.

Obito looked at Rin with the tears fully flowing now, "thank you so much Rin." He could feel his heart swell, he could no longer deny what he felt, he loved her. Obito loved Rin.

Obito groaned as he sat up, he was sure he was dead. Looking at his surroundings he began to recognize that plane he was in, or at least the nothingness and then the cold feeling rushing over him. It was the same place he woke to when Nagato pulled his soul from his body.

"Great, don't tell me I'm going to be stuck here for eternity," Obito sighed.

"You are not dead yet, Tobi-sensei," a recognizable voice said.

Obito quickly turned around as the landscape changed to clearing with no stars in a purple sky. Asami stood before him wearing the same black cloak she wore when she was killed. "Asami!" Obito exclaimed.

"I'm glad you still remember me. I was kind of getting worried you wouldn't. I mean looking at how much older you've gotten I can only imagine that you've forgotten about me," she said with a smile.

Obito gave her a smile, "I've never forgotten about you Asami."

"I know sensei," Asami walked closer until she was inches from Obito, "the pain you display on seeing my face is proof enough."

Pain erupted in Obito's stomach; he brought his eyes down to see a wooden rod protruding out his midsection.

"Got you," Asami said turning away from him, as she walked away her form slowly grew and changed into the receding form of Mirah.

Obito's eyes quickly flicked from left to right as the green scenery became visible again. His sharingan fell unto Orochimaru. "Genjutsu," Obito whispered. I let myself get hit with genjutsu. Obito took a step towards the snake sannin before falling to his knees. Orochimaru launched himself from where he stood and landed in front of Obito. Orochimaru sent his knee into Obito's face crushing his already damaged nose.

"I don't like that smile on your face, Obi-kun," Orochimaru snarled. Orochimaru opened his mouth and reached in with his hand and pulled out a sword. The snake sannin smiled before bringing the sword down cutting into Obito's left shoulder. "Still with that smile, why?"

Obito coughed up blood as he tried to respond, I don't need to be alive for you to die, Orochimaru. The true threats are already taken care of.

Orochimaru's head snapped up away from Obito, towards the direction where his teammates were. "Maybe I should have allowed more chakra for them, how disappointing. It would seem your friends were able to seal the Shodaime and the Nidaime. How impressive, ku, ku, ku." Orochimaru returned his gaze to Obito. A sinister smile crawled on his face, "Mirah go and kill Obi-kun's friends."

Mirah gave him a quick nod before jumping away. Obito attempted to move but was stopped by the edge of Orochimaru's blade on his throat, "you can't go Obi-kun, I want your last memories to be of me."

"Why-" Obito coughed, "what is your goal?"

Orochimaru gave Obito a curious look, "my goal has always been the same, I wish to master every jutsu known to us, and maybe even those not known. However, my one true goal is really quite a simple one; immortality."

Blood filled Obito's throat as a half chuckle and a half cough forced the blood out, Obito looked up at Orochimaru a crooked smile on his face. He could feel his body healing from the wounds, "Why would you want to be so weak and immortal?"

Orochimaru's eyes narrowed, "you dare call me weak when you are at my mercy? I have your life in my hands Obi-kun," the snake sanin snarled, cutting Obito's throat with the sword just to emphasize his point.

Obito's bloodied smile grew, "you are at my mercy Orochimaru. You sent your guard dog away, leaving you only with me." Obito raised his right hand forming a sign, Obito felt a small amount of chakra ignite a small splinter of wood.

Suddenly a yell escaped Orochimaru's mouth as wooden tendrils erupted from his right leg, pinning him to the ground. "What?" Orochimaru attempted to lop off Obito's head with a swing of his sword, the blade crashed into Obito's hand sending vibrations running through both their bodies.

"While I was fighting I was slowly planting small seeds of mokuton around the area, every time you or Mirah crossed over one it embedded itself inside your bodies. And with just a small amount of chakra," Obito formed the sign once again, new wooden tendrils tore out of Orochimaru's left leg, "they grow into the limbs of a tree."

Obito slowly got to his feet, "the Shodaime did have terrifying jutsu, but I think mokuton could've been the true source of terror for his enemies. It's incredibly versatile in its destructive powers. You yourself have seen me use it to kill hundreds of enemies at once. You've made two mistakes Orochimaru; one was assuming I solely relied on my sharingan, and two was not killing me when Mirah caught me and her genjutsu." Obito raised his right hand, his palm facing upward on each of his fingertips small amounts of elemental chakra formed. In the center of his palm a small ball of black chakra formed. Each o f the elemental chakra was absorbed into the black ball making it grow larger. The ball of chakra began to make a loud humming noise that filled the clearing. "Let me show you a truly destructive jutsu," with a smile Obito looked into the terrified eyes of Orochimaru as his mangekyo swirled to life. The black ball of chakra began to hum louder as it became darker, Obito rushed his arm forward crashing the ball of chakra into Orochimaru's chest, "Burakkuhōru!"

Rin felt the air in her lungs rush out from the collision, her body completely submerged into the rock wall.

She is so strong; I don't think even three tail state will be that much of a match for her.

That may be the case, if all else fails we could go into tail beast state. Isobu said.

Rin shook her head, no, we haven't had much training that way. Plus, we'll only have five minutes before both our chakra is exhausted to the point where we'll be completely useless in the fight.

I understand the risks child, I'm not an idiot. But even as strong as she is, not even she can hold off a bijuu and jinchuriki in perfect synchronization for five minutes. Her chakra is draining fast as it is. As much as that snake boasted about her, her chakra reserves are too low for the amount of power she can weild. That is what happens when power is gifted to a body not yet ready for it. You know that very well child, it is the reason it has taken us years to be able to get to tail beast state. Isobu explained.

Rin furrowed her eyebrows and focused on Mirah's chakra signature, she could sense she was fighting Minato-sensei, Mirah used a katon jutsu when Rin's eyes widened. Mirah is pouring more chakra into her jutsu's than needed, her reserves as Isobu said, are drying at an astounding rate. They don't need to beat her just outlast her!

Isobu is there any way you can make contact with that Yamanaka woman? Rin asked.

If she has trained even just a little bit in her clans jutsu than I can.

Good, then have her relay the information to both Minato-sensei and Kakashi, I'll prepare us for tail beast state.

As you wish, child.

Rin closed her eyes, as she reached into the depths of her chakra that mingled together with Isobu's. She slowly grabbed on to it, and let it flood her chakra coils. She felt the sudden meteoric rise of her power before her eyes opened. Ready, Isobu?

Yes, your teammates have been informed. Let us show this science experiment what true power is. Isobu snarled.

Rin tore through the hole at a speed that would make even her sensei seem slow. In the blink of an eye she landed a right cross on Mirah's face sending her into the wall. Mirah's body tore through the wall causing it to crumble to the ground. The cave began to shake violently.

"The cave is collapsing! We need to get out of here," Minato-sensei stated.

"Rin, what the hell happened to you?" Kakashi asked.

"Now is not the time Kakashi, get out of here. I'll handle her." Rin ordered.

Kakashi nodded. Rin gave him a quick smile before focusing on the chakra signature of Mirah. She could understand Kakashi's confusion, she's only gone into tail beast state once before and when she saw herself, she couldn't recognize herself either. Her eyes were red with bright yellow pupils, grey spikes formed around her head like a crown, a large shell formed on her back with three tails swinging from underneath, strong red muscle tissue surrounded her arms, legs and torso. She was truly a humanoid version of Isobu.

Minato grabbed on to Kakashi and both flashed away as Mirah climbed out of the rubble. Rin quickly lunged at her before the female Uchiha could get her bearings. Rin sunk her claws into Mirah's shoulders before tossing her through the roof of the cave. Rin extended both her arms, opened her palms and aimed where she threw Mirah. A small dark bijuudama formed in her hands, Rin waited until she could sense Mirah rushing towards her, when she fired the ball of chakra.

Without waiting to see if it made contact or not Rin tore through the cave to the outside landing next to her teammates as the cave exploded.

"Did you get her?" Kakashi asked.

"No, she somehow deflected it," Rin answered focusing her senses on Mirah, "whatever she did caused her to use up a lot of chakra though. She hardly has anything left."

Mirah slowly walked to the three Konoha shinobi, her breath haggard. Minato took a step forward, "enough Mirah, you don't have to fight anymore. Can't you see Orochimaru is only using you to further his own goals not yours."

Mirah shook her head, "no Orochimaru-sama is helping me get my revenge on the man who sold me and killed everyone in my village!"

"What village?" Rin asked.

"Taki town," Mirah answered.

"I remember that village from Obito's memories-" A large explosion to the right of them cut Rin off. Everyone turned to see a large ball of black chakra engulfing acres of forest, before disappearing leaving a large crater that expands miles.

"What the hell was that?" Kakashi asked.

"Do you think Obito was caught in that?" Rin asked.

"I don't know I can't sense anyone over there not Obito or Orochimaru." Minato answered.

Mirah jumped towards the crater, Rin made a move to follow her but was stopped by her sensei, "let her go, I've already marked her. We can find her when we want, for now we have to be sure Obito is okay."

Obito swirled into existence at the center of the crater he created, his right arm was gone, the stub was dripping the white goop of hashirama cells. Obito frowned, he still needed to fine tune his jutsu so the blowback didn't reach him. To be fair he did stay longer than needed, but he wanted to be sure there was nothing left of Orochimaru. Hence is right arm being destroyed by his own jutsu. It was fine though a new arm will be there within a day. Obito glanced around the area, he also had to keep the explosion more centralized, so he didn't destroy the entire area, possibly killing his own friends. There was still more work to be done with the jutsu. But for what it was worth at least Orochimaru was dead.

Obito's frown deepened as he sensed the chakra signature closing in on him. Mirah landed in front of him, "where is Orochimaru-sama?" she asked.

"Dead." Obito answered coldly.

Mirah frowned, tears began to form in her eyes, "have you not taken enough away from me? I promise I'll kill you Uchiha Obito, I'll become stronger than both the Shodaime and Madara. So strong that in our next fight you won't even have a chance of winning."

"Do as you wish, I did destroy Taki town and all it's inhabitants. But I had a reason to do so, they were all in a cult that focused on sacrificing children. If you were from that town that means they sold you to Orochimaru, so that snake bastard could do his experiments on you and twist your mind enough to follow him blindly." Obito explained.

"That isn't true!" Mirah yelled, tears falling from her eyes.

"It is true, but I will not stop you from attempting to have your vengeance. Just know that if you do come to kill me, I better be your only target. If you hurt any of my friends, I'll kill you before you have the chance to get one jutsu off against me. That isn't a threat Mirah, it's a promise." Obito said.

"What makes you so confident?" Mirah asked.

"That's a secret." Obito answered. "You don't have to follow what Orcohimaru said anymore he is gone; you can live your own life. I destroyed your town because all the people who lived there were completely evil, if you can't accept that fact than that is your problem. You can take your anger out on me if you'd like, but once again leave my friends out of it. I don't want to have to kill you, you don't deserve it. You've done nothing wrong but follow the orders of a mad man, but once again if you hurt my friends, I won't hesitate in ending your life."

"I will kill you Uchiha Obito." Mirah replied before jumping away.

Obito sighed loudly before falling to the ground, he was exhausted. Mirah could become a huge problem in the future. Obito was confident he could beat her, but it wasn't going to be as easy as he said. Her body completely absorbed the mokuton seeds into herself, making it a part of her. So that jutsu wasn't going to work. And if she did become stronger, he'd have a tough time in dealing with her, his kamui jutsu just isn't fast enough to one shot her.

Obito chuckled, she definitely will be a problem. That only means one thing for Obito, he needs to start training again. He hasn't had the need to in years, since he was always stronger and faster than everyone he fought. He has become complacent, and in that complacency he almost died. How could he let himself get caught in a genjutsu? Or even that trap? He needs to train again. Next time it won't only be Mirah who is stronger, he will be too. That is a promise.
