Part 37: how opposites meet - a Shadilver story

They arrived at Shadow's place, he had ordered some food and took a quick shower, Silver was waiting in the bedroom. Shadow asked Silver if they wanted to join, but they didn't feel comfortable to do so yet. Shadow hadn't locked the door just incase Silver changed their mind.

Silver was sitting on the windowsill, looking a bit unsure at the bathroom door, wondering what they should do. Silver stood up and wanted to go for the bathroom door but stopped as they heard Shadow turn off the tap. Silver sighed a little disappointed and went back to the windowsill.

Shadow soon entered the room with only a towel wrapped around his waist. Silver blushed slightly as they watched how Shadow rummaged around in his wardrobe and took out a pair of sweatpants. He dropped the towel to the ground, Silver blushed badly and quickly looked away. Shadow laughed.

"Don't you have any shame?" Silver said covering their eyes.

"Do you think I need to be ashamed of something?" Shadow said while putting on the sweatpants.

"Not really," Silver said as their cheeks turned redder.

"Besides, you've already seen me naked."

"That was different."

Shadow came over and removed Silver's hands from their eyes.

"You are just so cute," Shadow whispered and kissed Silver's forehead. There was a knock at the door. "Must be dinner," Shadow stood up and opened the door. He took his wallet and gave the delivery guy some money. "Here you go, thank you," he said and closed the door again holding a paper bag. "Are you hungry?"

"Yeah," Silver replied and stood up, "What did you order?"

"Sushi, have you ever had that before?"

"Oh, that is with fish right? Sorry, but I don't-"

"I ordered you vegetarian," Shadow said without letting them finish their sentence.

Silver smiled bright, "That's so sweet, thank you." Shadow took the food out of the bag and placed it on the table. "I never had it, but I always thought it looked beautiful," Silver said.

"I hope you'll enjoy it," Shadow said and passed Silver a pair of chopsticks. They watched as Shadow took the sticks apart, held them between his fingers, took a maki roll, dipped it in the soy sauce and popped it in his mouth. Silver tried to copy him but struggled with the chopsticks. Shadow looked amused as he watched Silver try to figure it out.

"Here," Shadow said after a while and held a maki towards Silver between his chopsticks, "Open your mouth," Silver blushed but opened their mouth and Shadow popped the maki into their mouth. Silver started to chew. A big smile appeared on their face.

"Wow, that's so good!" Silver said with their mouth full.

"I knew you would like it, want another one?" Silver nodded and opened their mouth.

"Shadow?" Silver carefully asked after a while. "I have to ask you, why were you so off today?"

Shadow put down his chopsticks. "I just want to protect you Silver."

"But why, it isn't like something happened today."

"I just don't trust Scourge and that new friend of his. I know Scourge is very angry with me and you remember what he did and said to you in your first week right?" Silver nodded as Shadow continued "I just don't want anything like that to happen again."

"I understand that but I just wish you would have told me. You were acting so weird and possessive. I didn't like that."

"I know, I just did got stressed out. But please, the next time I act like that, believe me and trust me when I ask you to do something okay?" Shadow asked, "When you act so stubborn… It just wasn't helping."

"I'll do my best," Silver said.

Shadow cleaned up after dinner.

"Shadow could you maybe bring me home?" Silver asked.

"I want you to stay the night," Shadow said.

"I could stay tomorrow, but I really miss my cats." Shadow was struggling with the idea of Silver sleeping on the streets again. But he didn't want to admit that he knew about Silver's situation, because then Silver would know that he had been spying on them.

Shadow changed into warmer clothes to spend the night outside and gave Silver a thick warm vest which was fluffy on the inside, "Here, it will be cold outside."

Silver took it and put it on. "Oew! This is so soft," Shadow went over and zipped up the vest. Silver blushed as he did.

"You look so cute like that," Shadow booped their nose, Silver chuckled and booped Shadows nose. "Come on we will take my motorcycle,"

"Ugh."

"Ow come on, I won't drive too fast okay? You just need to get used to it."

Shadow stopped in front of the flower shop where Silver had told him they lived. Silver stumbled off of the vehicle with shaking knees. "I still don't like it."

"Do not overreact, even snails could catch up with us," Shadow said with a grin. Silver rolled their eyes but smiled, Silver wanted to pull off the vest to give it back. "Just keep it," Shadow said with a smile.

"I will give it back to you tomorrow," Silver said pulling the zipper back up again.

"You don't have to, I don't use it much anyway and if you like it, you can have it," Suddenly Silver hugged Shadow tightly, who felt surprised.

"Thank you so much," Silver whispered.

"It's just a vest," Shadow said.

Silver looked up at him, "But I really like it."

Shadow leaned in, "And I really like you," He whispered and pressed a kiss against Silver lips. They stood on their toes to kiss Shadow back with a blush on their cheeks. They pulled away and Shadow bit his lip, "Are you sure you don't want to stay the night?"

Silver looked a little disappointed, "I just need to take care of my cats, I'm sorry," they apologised. "But I can tomorrow."

"I'm looking forward to it."

They both smiled at each other for a bit and Silver slowly walked away.

"I will see you tomorrow," they said.

"Good night," Shadow said.

Silver moved more back towards the front door, "Night."

Shadow waved and started the engine to move on, Silver watched as Shadow disappeared and started walking down the street.

Shadow drove towards the alley and parked his vehicle a few streets over and sped off to the alley to wait for Silver to arrive.

Ten minutes later Silver arrived in the alley and the cats started too meow loudly. "Guys, did you miss me?" The cats bumped their head against Silver's legs. "I've really missed you too, I'm so sorry I've been away for so long. Come on you all must be so hungry." Silver went over to the mattress and took out two cans from behind the brick. "Here you go," Silver said as they gave all the food to the cats. Silver started to yawn and their eyelids turned heavy. "Sorry I'm so boring today, but I am just far too tired."

Silver took Bunny Bun out of their backpack and curled up on the mattress snuggling in their new soft vest. Silver soon fell asleep while the cats kept on eating

Shadow watched with a soft smile as the cats finished the food and curled up against Silver. Shadow yawned and shift to make himself sit more comfortable and closed his eyes.

"Hey Tails!" Silver greeted as they approached the corner where Tails was waiting for them.

"How did it all go yesterday?"

"Oh it turned out to be okay, Espio isn't that bad. I helped him with his homework."

"And Shadow?" Tails asked curious.

"Apparently he was just a little tense."

"I think he had a good reason to be," Tails said and Silver looked at him puzzled.

"What do you mean?"

"Well yesterday I did some research on Mephiles," Tails said. "He has done some really scary stuff, but apparently he's clean now, they let him go out of jail."

"Jail?" Silver said shocked. "What did he do?"

"All sorts of things, dealing drugs, drugs use, using weapons, threatening, abuse and he even almost killed a guy," Tails summed up, Silver's eyes widened in disbelieve.

"How can the school permit someone like that!" Silver said frustrated.

"The article said he's clean now and that he showed good behaviour during his jail time."

"But still, if someone like that is among us, that's just creepy," Silver shivered.

"Well everybody deserves a second chance don't you think? Maybe he really did change?"

"Yeah maybe," Silver replied doubtful. They went to their robotics class, to work on their projects. "Shadow has a bad feeling about that guy, I think…" Silver stopped talking as Mephiles entered the classroom. Tails turned around to see what Silver was looking at. Mephiles' icy eyes looked over at Silver, who shivered. He went over to talk with the teacher who helped him around the workshop.

"I have the feeling we can't trust that guy," Silver whispered and Tails nodded.

Silver and Tails worked silently. Silver sometimes looked over at Mephiles to see what he was doing. He was just working silently on his own. After a while Tails went to get some more materials for his project, Silver looked over at Mephiles again but he was gone, 'Where did he go?' Silver thought and looked to their side, "AAAAH!" Silver yelped as Mephiles was standing next to them.

"What are you looking at?" Mephiles asked angry.

"N-n-nothing," Silver stuttered.

Mephiles pulled Silver close by their collar "Just stop looking at me," he threatened.

Silver turned pale, gulped and nodded. "S-s-sorry," They said with a small voice and quickly looked away. Mephiles let go of them and went back to his workstation.

"Something wrong?" Tails asked when he returned and saw Silver's shocked expression.

"Mephiles just came over." Tails looked over at Mephiles. "No don't look," Silver whispered, "He doesn't like that."

Silver was relieved when the bell rang and quickly took their stuff to go for their lunch break. Shadow was already waiting in the cafeteria. Shadow passed a sandwich which Silver took. "Thank you, I forgot my lunch again."

"I thought so," Shadow said with a grin, "It's funny how someone as smart as you can forget something important like that."

Silver shrugged their shoulders, "I just like to reserve some of my brain space for more important things," they chuckled.

Shadow looked at the doorway as Mephiles entered and he tensed up. "Was he in your class?" he asked.

"Yeah," Silver responded, "and you were right, he is a total creep." Silver quickly looked away.
