I do not own Harry Potter
Hello guys, Badger here. I'm here with a new story. I have read a few stories where Harry was a troublemaker, a thief or a criminal before going to Hogwarts and the idea of doing such a story myself was appealing. I would link those stories but I forgot the names and they've long since been abandoned.
Anyway, I think you'll enjoy this story, so I'll let you enjoy this first chapter and I'll see you at the end.
Chapter 1
You Call Me A Troublemaker, I Might As Well Be A Troublemaker
September 4th, 1988, 4 Privet Drive, Little Whinging, Surrey
Things were normal, well, as normal as can be. The sun was shining. Birds were tweeting, as they flew from tree to tree, under the blue sky. Meanwhile, people who lived on Privet Drive went about their every day life, like they usually do.
However, in 4 Privet Drive, the Dursley residence, was anything but normal. However, they tried their best to keep their lives as normal as possible. All because of one boy. Harry Potter, their nephew, the son of James and Lily Potter. Petunia Dursley hated her sister, resented her in fact. All because her sister was a witch. Their parents were overjoyed to learn that they had a gifted and magical child in the family, but only she saw what Lily really was. A freak! Then she got married to James Potter, a handsome young man. It only made Petunia resent her sister even more.
Then, on Halloween night 1981, an evil wizard had killed both James and Lily and their one and only child, Harry, was left on their doorstep. For Petunia, it was like Lily was torturing her from beyond the grave. They, begrudgingly, took Harry in, though they made sure to treat him like the freak he was. They made him their personal slave, barely giving him the bare minimum to survive. They never told him of his magical heritage, though if the boy made any freakishness happen, they made sure to punish him, that way they can keep their normal lifestyle. Whenever their neighbours asked about him, they would tell them Harry was nothing but a troublemaker they had to discipline constantly.
It helped keep their lifestyle as normal as possible
And that's how they wanted things to stay.
…
Vernon ignored Harry's cries, as he dragged the small boy by the hair, dragging him across the hall, opening the cupboard under the stairs, that was Harry's bedroom and threw him inside, not caring if the boy broke something and slammed the door, with such force, parts of the walls cracked from the impact. After locking it, Vernon made sure to bang on the door, loud enough to scare the boy before storming off.
Harry cowered in the corner of his, extremely, cramped bedroom, ignoring the pain in his body. Thankfully, nothing was broken. He often found himself being locked in his 'bedroom', and as usual, the reasons for it wasn't his fault. For as long as he could remember, his relatives had hated him and treated him with such hate and neglect. Harry didn't know why, but he must've done something for them to hate him. This time was no different. He wasn't sure how it even happened. Harry was getting angry that Dudley and his friends kept picking on him at school, whispering behind his back and throwing things at his head in lesson. When he tried to get them to stop, the teacher had yelled at HIM. This made Harry's temper rise and, the next thing he knew, the teachers hair had turned blue.
Harry was just as confused as everyone else, but he was punished for whatever it was that happened and when his uncle was told about it, he got angry, which led to Harry being locked in the cupboard. No doubt he'd be locked in here overnight, possibly longer, with no food.
Harry had tried to tell people about their neglect and abuse towards him. But it was no use. His relatives had told everyone on their street that he was nothing but a no good trouble maker who would lie and steal to get his way. This then spread across to the other streets and now, everyone believes him to be what they say. A lying, stealing troublemaker. Whenever Harry had tried to tell someone about the Dursleys abuse, they just believed Harry was lying and would tell his aunt or uncle about the 'lies' he's been saying. This would lead to Harry being punished even more by his uncles, more often then not, resorting to physical beatings.
All because people believed he was a troublemaker.
Troublemaker. Troublemaker. Troublemaker.
The word kept repeating in Harry's mind, as he sat in silence, in his cupboard, listening to the sounds of the Dursleys going about the rest of their day. When his tears had finally stopped, and he was able to calm himself down, somewhat, Harry began to think. Troublemaker, continued to repeat itself in his mind. Harry slowly began to uncurl from the foetal position he had put himself in. Troublemaker. Well, if people believe that he is nothing but a no good troublemaker. A thief. A liar. Then he might as well be a no good troublemaker. A thief. A liar.
Once he was let back out of his cupboard, he was going to start with his trouble making. It would be nice to get some revenge on Dudley and his gang.
…
Seeing as he had to go to school, Harry was let out of his cupboard the next morning, though his uncle didn't look happy about it. He never did, when he let Harry out of his cupboard. However, this time, Harry wasn't bothered about it. Today, he planned on becoming the troublemaker people believed him to be.
Considering its happened at the end of every school day, Harry had no doubt that Dudley and his friends would corner him, after school, in hopes of giving him a beating. It often led with Harry being battered and bruised, before he was able to get away.
Today was going to be different though.
…
Harry was correct. As soon as he exited the school doors, he could already see Dudley and his friends waiting for him, across the playground. This time though, they were angry. And for good reason. Throughout the day, Harry had been annoying his cousin and his gang. In classes, he made sure to sit in the back rows, where he would throw things at their heads, like rubbers, sharpeners, as well as pencils. Dudley and his friends shared a look of disbelief when they saw it was Harry who was doing it, though it gave them an excuse to give him extra beatings.
Then there was lunch. Harry made sure to hide, until they got their lunches, where Harry would then knock their trays from their hands, like they had done to him on many occasions. Not wanting to stick around, Harry had then run away and hide somewhere for the rest of lunch. He then continued throwing things at their heads in the remaining lessons, until it was time to go home.
Now, that the day was over, Harry felt slightly nervous. He knew what was going to happen. It always happened. Getting into a fight was different to causing mischief. Swallowing down his nerves, Harry pretended that he didn't see them and started making his way down the playground. Harry knew they wouldn't corner him at the school, where teachers could possibly spot them. They'll wait until they are a short distance away before jumping on him.
As Harry was making his way out of the playground, from the corner of his eye, he could see Dudley and his friends following after him, making sure to keep their distance. Harry felt more and more nervous as he continued walking home, though he tried his best to keep his nerves in check. After several minutes, before Harry could turn a corner, Dudley's best friend, Piers Polkiss appeared in front of him. The smile on the boys face, told Harry what was going to happen. But that wasn't going to happen today.
"So you decided to have some fun today, freak?" Dudley's voice appeared from behind him
Harry turned to see Dudley standing with Gordon and Dennis either side of him. All three of them looked furious, whilst Gordon and Dennis cracked their knuckles.
"I'm afraid the fun stops now" Dudley said "We're going to teach you a lesson"
"A lesson…I'm bound to fail, considering how stupid you are Dudley" Harry replied, his eyes widening when he realised what he had just said, meanwhile Dudley looked even more furious, his nostrils flaring
"Get him Piers!" He yelled
Harry turned around to see Piers throwing a punch, at his face. Quickly, somehow, Harry was able to move his head dodging Piers' strike. Piers looked surprised for a moment, before throwing another punch. Harry avoided that one too and, with a surge of confidence, threw his own punch, hitting Piers in the nose, with a crunch, causing the taller boy to fall to the ground, holding his nose, which was gushing blood. Harry turned to the other boys, who looked surprised and shocked for a moment, before Dudley instructed Gordon and Dennis to attack him.
Dennis, being the larger of the two, charged at Harry, hoping to tackle the smaller boy into the ground. Harry, however, dropped to his hands and knees and, due to the speed Dennis was running at, he was unable to stop and tripped over Harry, flying over him before crashing to the ground, face first, with a sickening crunch, knocking out a few of his teeth. Harry quickly jumped up, to avoid Gordon trying to stamp on Harry's head. As the boys foot hit the ground where Harry was a moment before, Harry quickly punched up, hitting the boys stomach, causing Gordon to crouch down in pain. Quickly Harry punched upwards, hitting the boy in the eye, the impact causing Gordon to fall backwards, holding his eye in pain, which already had signs of bruising.
Dudley looked shocked at what happened, before he growled and starting charging at his cousin, ready to throw a punch. Harry panicked, knowing Dudley was the worse when it came to beatings from his gang. Not knowing what else to do, before Dudley could hit him, Harry kicked his leg upwards and hit Dudley in an area no boy, or man, wanted to be hit. Tears fell from Dudleys eyes, as he fell backwards, his hands in between his legs, in pain.
Harry remained where he was, looking at the gang members, surprised that he was able to fight back against them. He didn't remain there for long though. He quickly turned and ran home. However, before doing so, he noticed a stack of football cards on the ground. Piers' football cards. He overheard the boy telling Dudley he always carried around the rare cards if he got them, so no one would steal them. The cards must have fallen out of the boys pocket. Smiling to himself, Harry quickly swiped the cards off of the ground as he run off, stuffing them into his pockets, as he made his way home.
…
Harry didn't stop running until he made it back home. His uncle had yelled at him for being 2 minutes late and instructed him to cook dinner. Harry said nothing and did what he was told, a smile on his face from what had happened moments earlier. Of course, Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia would find out fairly quickly, but he didn't care. Not anymore. As Harry was finishing up the dinner and began plating it up, there was a knock on the door. Vernon answered and was surprised to see a police officer there, along with Dudley and his friends, each one of them were injured.
"Can I help you Officer?" Vernon asked
"We would like to speak to Harry Potter" The Officer said "We have had reports of the boy assaulting these lads behind me"
"BOY!" Vernon yelled "COME HERE NOW!"
Harry wasn't fazed by the volume of his uncles door. He couldn't help but feel proud when he saw the injuries on the boys, who seemed to be cowering behind the Police Officer. Whether it was exaggerated or genuine, he couldn't bet sure, though he made sure to not smile, as he looked up at the Officer.
"Are you Harry Potter?" He asked
"Yes sir" Harry replied
"Did you attack these boys?" The Officer asked
"Yes sir" Harry nodded
"Why did you do it?" The Officer raised an eyebrow
"They deserved it" Harry said, uncaringly
"Assault, even at your age, is a very serious offence young man!" The Police Officer said sternly
"I am so sorry about this, Officer" Vernon said "I will make sure to punish the boy"
"No need sir" The Officer said "Due to the reports given to us by the other boys' parents, we have a warrant to send young Harry here, to a Juvenile Detention Centre for a few months, to try and improve his behaviour"
…
It wasn't long until Harry found himself in the back of a police car, heading towards the nearest Juvenile Detention Centre. As soon as the Dursleys learnt that Harry will be in Juvie for a few months, they had his very few possessions packed and he was sent away within ten minutes. Harry couldn't help but smile, as he still had Piers' rare football cards in his pocket. Harry wasn't worried about going to Juvie. He was, after all, a troublemaker now. And troublemaker's went to places like Juvie. Besides, it meant he'd be away from the Dursleys for a while. That, alone, was worth the punishment.
The Police Officer looked into the rear view mirror, gazing at Harry for a moment, before turning his attention back to the road.
"Why did you do it?" He asked "You seem like a good kid…"
"My relatives keep telling people I'm a troublemaker" Harry replied "I figured I might as well be a troublemaker"
The Police Officer hummed in response, glancing back at Harry for a second, returning to the road a moment later. The rest of the journey was a quiet one, where an hour later, the car pulled up in front of the Juvie centre, where the Police Officer led Harry inside. The place seemed very clean, surprisingly so, considering it was a place for troublemakers like Harry.
"A new one Officer?" A woman with brown hair said, from behind the main desk
"Yes Miss Johnson" The Officer said "A first time offender…he assaulted his cousin and his cousins friends…I leave him in your hands"
"Thank you Officer" The woman said, causing the Police Officer, to nod and walked out
Harry, for the first time, felt a little bit of fear, at the gaze in the woman's eyes. It was like she was reading him, looking through his soul.
"First time offender eh, well I'm sure we can help improve your behaviour…I imagine, depending on how much you improve, you'll be out of here in a month, two at most" The woman said, before clicking the button for the intercom "James Badger, please come to the front desk"
After a moment or two, a boy appeared, who seemed to be about ten years old. He was dressed in disheveled clothing, with a black shirt which featured a snake slithering out the mouth of a skull, with black ripped jeans and black shoes. Interestingly, the boys hair, was stained with what seemed to be some kind of purple dye, where Harry could see patches of his natural brown underneath. This must've been James Badger
"Whatever it is, Ma'am, it wasn't me" James said
"You aren't in trouble James" the woman said, gesturing to Harry "This is Harry Potter, he'll be staying a while, I'm trusting you to show him around and introduce him to the other kids"
James turned to face Harry, where he looked up and down, seemingly sizing Harry up. After a few seconds, the look in the boys eyes softened.
"First time offender?" James said, to which Harry nodded, causing the boy to smile "Trust me when I say…you are going to love it here!"
…
And that's the first chapter done. What did you think.
As someone who has a heart of gold, I don't know the full procedure for sending someone to Juvie, as I've never been sent there, so there may be some inaccuracy in Harry being sent there in this chapter. At first, I just had Harry beat up Dudleys gang, only adding him stealing the football cards as a late addition, that way his stealing career begins early. He's, most likely, going to steal a whole lot more in future chapters.
Also, in this chapter, I left a small easter egg, referencing the Dark Mark, somewhere in this chapter. If you find it, tell me where it is in the review section. If you get it right, you win a cookie.
That is all for now, I hope you enjoyed and I will see you next time, in whichever story I see you in next.
