Chapter 3: Winning Over
Agent BM: You got that right
But Bessie couldn't seem to avoid Kevin for the rest of the day. He kept showing up, trying to talk to her, leaving notes, and always seemed to be around. It was starting to annoy Bessie, so there was only one thing to do.
Bessie rolled down the hallways, looking for Kevin and then she found him by his locker.
"Kevin." she told him.
"Bessie, hi." he greeted happily.
"Look Kevin." Bessie started in a stern voice.
"I don't know what you're playing at, but I don't like it."
"Listen, Bessie. "I'm just trying to be nice is all. Look I'm sorry for that awkward talk earlier at lunch. Again I'm not good at talking to people." Kevin explained.
Bessie raised her eyebrow at him. He sounded like he was being sincere.
"Well...I guess...I could..."
"Give me a chance?" Kevin asked hopefully.
"Sure...but you have to tone things down a notch."
"Done."
The next day, Kevin was being extra nice to Bessie. He held open the door for her, helped her put her backpack on the back of her chair, and overall was nice to her. This confused her friends, why was Bessie letting Kevin into her life like this.
In the girls' bathroom, Stella talked to Bessie about this.
"So, what's going on with you and Kevin, Bessie?" she asked.
"Well I talked to him yesterday, and he told me he was just trying to be nice." Bessie replied.
"Well, I still say you should be careful around him."
"Don't worry, I'm not only book smart, I'm street smart."
With the kings of RWMS they were discussing the plan.
"So far so good, Kevin." said Harry.
"Yeah, you've really hooked her." Josh added.
"Yeah, I have." Kevin told them.
"Keep the ball rolling Kev, then that $500 will be yours."
Later that day, as Kevin was on his way to his next class, when he saw Bessie's guy friends. They were joking and making fun of his last name. That made his blood boil, why did people have to make fun of his name all the time?
He decided to talk to Bessie about it.
"Listen, Bessie. Do you think you could tell your friends to stop making fun of my name?" he asked her, as they went down the hallway.
"Does it really bother you that much?" Bessie wanted to know.
"Yes, it does. I admit my last name is kinda funny, but I don't like being teased about it all the time."
Then under his breath his added,
"It was because of that I got kicked out of my last school."
"What was that?"
"Nothing."
"Well I'll talk to them. But you know, it wouldn't hurt for you to be a little more...nicer."
"What? I am nice." Bessie rolled her eyes.
"Kevin, you may not know this but you can come off as a...how do I say this a rich spoiled brat."
"What?" Bessie nodded.
Kevin was surprised, did he really give off that type of vibe?
At lunch, Bessie spoke with her friends about Kevin.
"So he's upset we make fun of his name?" asked Lincoln.
"Yeah, apparently." Bessie said.
"Well I suppose we could stop, but is he really worth stopping for?" wondered Liam.
"Come on guys, we're not bullies." Clyde tried to reason.
It was true, Lincoln and his group weren't bullies, and they certainly didn't want to become them.
And later on, when Bessie was throwing her trash away, she heard her name. She looked, and saw Kevin and his friends. But she overheard their conversation, they were talking about her.
"So what should I do?" Kevin wanted to know.
"Get her flowers, that'll get her to the dance with you." Harry told him.
"And some candy." Josh added.
"Okay, okay. I'll try that stuff, plus I can do lots of stuff with that $500." Kevin replied.
When Bessie heard that, she was furious. She quickly wheeled back to her friends, and told them everything.
"I knew those guys were up to no good." said Zack.
"What are you gonna do?" Rusty asked Bessie.
"Well let's just say I'm gonna make Kevin work really hard for that $500." Bessie replied, and she giggled evilly.
That's chapter 3
