Confrontations

''''''''''''''''''

The cave was deep in the heart of the foreboding Forest of Death, its presence an ominous secret concealed within nature's embrace. Standing in silent isolation, not far from the imposing Chunin Exam tower, it beckoned to those brave enough—or foolish enough—to venture further.

There, upon the cold and unforgiving rocky floor, lay the lifeless body of a female shinobi. Her form splayed out, devoid of life, she served as a haunting reminder of the dangers that befell those who dared to traverse this accursed path. The air itself seemed to carry a sense of melancholy as if mourning the fallen warrior's fate.

The dim light filtering through the cave revealed the intricate details of her battle-worn attire, torn and stained with the evidence of a fierce struggle. Yet, even in death, her presence commanded respect and demanded reverence.

Her stillness contrasted sharply with the eerie surroundings, amplifying the sense of foreboding that hung heavily in the air. Shadows danced upon the cavern walls as if whispering secrets of the darkness that had claimed her life.

The echoes of her final moments seemed to reverberate within the cave as if the very walls held the memory of the fierce battle. It was a testament to the perilous nature of the path of a shinobi, a reminder that victory was never guaranteed.

Hovering ominously in the air, defying the laws of nature, a black, shiny pool emitted a sinister black-blue glow. Its surface rippled with eerie energy, casting an otherworldly hue upon the surroundings. It seemed to pulsate with a malevolence that whispered of forbidden secrets and ancient horrors.

The pool stood as a gateway, a portal to times and places unknown, poised on the precipice between time and space itself. Its purpose and origins remained veiled in mystery, shrouded by the enigma of its existence. It beckoned with a silent invitation, tempting those who dared to approach, promising answers and revelations, yet concealing the potential horrors that lay beyond.

There was a palpable tension in the air as if the very fabric of reality trembled in the presence of this enigmatic portal. The atmosphere grew heavy with anticipation, as though the weight of the unknown pressed down upon all who stood witness. Every breath felt stifled, as if the air itself held its collective breath, waiting for what was to come.

As the black-blue pool glowed with an otherworldly radiance, its energy began to seep into the surrounding environment. It permeated the cavernous depths, suffusing the rocky walls with an unsettling aura. The air grew thick with a sense of foreboding as if the very essence of despair emanated from the portal.

With each passing moment, the pulsating waves of power intensified, radiating outward like ripples on a still pool disturbed by a falling rock. The energy expanded, touching every corner of the cave before moving ever outward, as though seeking to consume and possess all that it encountered. It was as if the portal itself had a will of its own, an insatiable hunger for control and domination.

A bubbling tar pit of viscous slime oozed nearby, its noxious odor permeating the air, a tangible manifestation of the malevolence that infested this forsaken place.

Cold droplets of water dripped from the cave ceiling, their rhythmic pattern echoing through the chamber like a somber requiem, intensifying the chilling atmosphere that clung to the walls.

Amidst the grim setting, where the air was heavy with the scent of decay and despair, a chilling sound pierced through the silence. It was the sickening symphony of flesh being mercilessly torn from bones, echoing through the cavernous space. Each agonizing rip and tear carried with it the weight of unspeakable horrors, conjuring images of gruesome entities lurking in the darkest corners, thirsting for another life to claim.

The vile sound seemed to emanate from the very depths of the cave as if the shadows themselves conspired to orchestrate this macabre performance. It sent shivers down the spine, a primal instinct warning of the imminent danger that awaited the unwary.

Within those shadowy recesses, unseen and yet palpable, something abhorrent lay in wait. It was a presence that defied comprehension, a malevolence beyond human understanding. Its hunger for carnage and suffering was insatiable, drawing strength from the darkness that permeated every crevice.

As the echoes of bone-chilling torment reverberated through the cavern, it served as a grim reminder that time both past and future was fraught with peril. Whispers of ancient seals of power and tales of lost souls consumed by the malefic forces drifted through the air, like haunting melodies of doom.

Evil pervaded every corner of the cave, its presence palpable and suffocating. It hung like a heavy shroud, staining the stalactites that jutted from above, an embodiment of malevolence that defied explanation. Echoing through the void, wicked laughter reverberated a sinister chorus that echoed through the depths of the abyss.

…..

"Is the evacuation complete?" Shikaku questioned, his gaze fixed on the main gate leading into the treacherous Forest of Death. The group of Jonin sensei surrounding him relayed their reports, affirming that their respective teams had safely exited the forest and were making their way back to the village.

"Sir!" one of the Anbu interjected, concern evident in their voice. "I have no reports of the sound teams exiting the forest."

A sense of worry crept into the atmosphere, but Might Guy stepped forward with an unyielding determination. "It was most unyouthful, but my team confirmed their departure hours before the evacuation order was given," he declared. "Neji utilized his Byakugan to trail their movements until they disappeared, concealed by the dense chakra of the forest."

Shikaku's brow furrowed as he contemplated the situation. The missing Sound teams posed a potential threat, and their unaccounted presence within the Forest of Death raised suspicions. The safety of all those involved rested on their swift action and decisive response.

"Notify the search teams," Shikaku commanded, his voice unwavering. "We cannot leave any stone unturned. We'll find them and ensure the safety of everyone. This mission is far from over."

"The Hokage has ordered that no one enters the forest except for my team," Kakashi stated, his usual nonchalant demeanor evident as he leaned casually against a nearby tree. Kurenai and her carefully selected team stood alongside him, ready for whatever awaited them within the confines of the Forest of Death.

The gravity of the situation hung in the air as they contemplated the Hokage's directive. The forest held secrets and dangers that few could comprehend, and it was a place where caution was paramount. The responsibility of venturing into its depths rested solely on Kakashi's capable shoulders.

Kurenai, her eyes unwavering, spoke up in support. "We understand the risks, Kakashi. We're here to assist you in any way we can."

Kakashi nodded, acknowledging their loyalty and determination. "Thank you, Kurenai. We can't afford to let this threat go unchecked. The safety of the village may depend on it."

As Kakashi pushed himself off the tree and took the lead, his Sharingan eye briefly flickering, they ventured forth into the forbidding forest, their steps guided by the Hokage's orders and their unwavering will of fire to protect their village at all costs.

Skikaku made a quick decision. "Send out teams to search the perimeter," he instructed the Anbu by his side. "Look for any signs of the sound teams exiting."

The Anbu member, donning the bull mask, immediately bowed in acknowledgment. Without hesitation, he swiftly signaled his concealed team, comprised of the village's most skilled and trusted shinobi. Their loyalty and expertise were unquestionable, making them the perfect choice for this critical mission.

In an instant, the Anbu team dispersed, their movements blending seamlessly with the shadows as they fanned out around the forest's perimeter. Their senses sharpened, and they scoured the area meticulously, leaving no stone unturned in their search for any signs or clues that would lead them to the missing sound teams.

Skikaku watched with a sense of anticipation as the Anbu executed their assigned task. He knew that their capabilities were second to none, and he entrusted them with this vital mission. The success of locating the sound teams was essential, and he had faith in the Anbu's abilities.

With that thought, an idea began to form in Skikaku's mind. It was an unorthodox strategy, one that required the approval and coordination of the Hokage. Determined to find a solution to their predicament, Skikaku swiftly turned to locate the village leader back in the village.

"Hokage-sama," Skikaku addressed with respect, his voice reflecting the urgency of the situation. "We cannot risk sending our shinobi into the forest. The danger is too great. However, we cannot remain idle while that genjutsu continues to plague our people."

The Hokage, sat behind his desk in deep contemplation a small trail of smoke rising from his pipe, after a moment he responded with a measured tone. "You raise a valid point, Skikaku. We cannot ignore this threat. But what alternative course of action do we have that does not expose more lives to danger? I have already sent Kakashi and a team of Genjutsu masters to find the source."

Skikaku's eyes brightened with a glimmer of hope as he presented his plan. "There is a possibility, Hokage-sama. We could employ Naruto's shadow clones in conjunction with a Yamanaka mind link. The clones can not be affected by the Genjutsu while linked to a Yamanaka outside the forest."

The Hokage raised an inquisitive eyebrow, intrigued by the proposal. "Naruto's shadow clones? How would that boy's clones help, he is untrained and reckless."

Skikaku explained the details of his plan, choosing his words carefully. "Allow me to explain, Hokage-sama. By dispersing Naruto's clones throughout the forest, we can establish multiple vantage points in the hundreds. Then through the utilization of the Yamanaka clan's mind techniques, we can extract information simultaneously from each clone. This would grant us a comprehensive surveillance network without subjecting additional lives to unnecessary risks."

The Hokage contemplated Skikaku's proposition, recognizing its potential. "You may be onto something, but for this plan to succeed, Naruto must place complete trust in the Yamanaka clan," he pointed out.

Skikaku nodded with assurance. "Indeed, Hokage-sama. I have been informed that Ino, Inoichi's daughter has been building a strong bond with Naruto. Their connection can serve as the foundation. If Naruto trusts Ino enough for mind link then she can transfer the information to me."

The Hokage took a pull from his pipe and exhaled a puff of smoke toward the ceiling his decision was made. "Bring them both before me," he commanded, his tone carrying authority. "We shall present the plan to Naruto and Ino. If they are willing to participate in this plan of yours, we must not squander this opportunity to gather information on this insidious genjutsu."

Skikaku saluted the Hokage and promptly ordered his men to gather Naruto and Ino. Time was not on their side. He had calculated that the growth of the genjutsu would reach the village wall in a matter of days even taking into account the attenuation of the Genjutsu as it spreads, even with the reduction in the intensity or amplitude of the genutsu it still has to propagate through the forest.

…..

"Does anyone have any information about our current situation and the reason we are in this arena?" Tenten asked, her voice filled with concern, as she walked in a circular path around Neji. The arena floor was expansive, and Neji had chosen a central spot where he stood motionless.

The remaining 25 Genin had been instructed by their respective sensei to wait in the arena, each team choosing a specific location to regroup. They stood apart from the other teams, aware that they would soon face each other as adversaries. Gaara, however, stood alone, his siblings positioned a few paces away from him.

"Ah, Tenten, my youthful teammate!" Lee exclaimed with vibrant energy, his voice carrying across the arena causing some of the non-leaf teams to look over at him. He continued to jog in place, his youthful determination evident in his every movement. "While we may not have all the answers at this moment, let us embrace our youthful boundless energy within us and fearlessly confront whatever challenges lie ahead! Together, we shall uncover the truth!"

Unnoticed by all but Neji, a small tentacle of sand was working its way across the arena's flood toward Lee. Just as it was about to wrap around his leg, Lee moved forward and started jogging around the inner wall moving faster and faster.

"I wish that lazy Kakashi Sensei had bothered to give us some kind of explanation before vanishing," Naruto grumbled, trying to ignore the sand and dust trailing behind Lee.

"I assume it has something to do with that Genjutsu we were all under.", said Sakura

"It was more than just a Genjutsu," Sasuke interjected sharply, crossing his arms and fixing a piercing gaze on Gaara. As the last Uchiha standing, he was confident he could outmatch anyone from his own village.

"What do you mean?" Sakura asked, her voice filled with surprise that Sasuke had willingly offered information.

"A Genjutsu affects the target's chakra internally, but whatever we experienced felt different. It was more like an overwhelming presence of murderous intent, forcibly suppressing everyone's chakra instead of simply disrupting it," Sasuke explained with a serious tone.

"We didn't see what wasn't there, like in a Genjutsu. It's not that the illusion deceived our eyes, but rather, we simply didn't care about what we did see," Sasuke added, his voice filled with a sense of contemplation as if he was trying to make sense of it for himself.

Naruto stared at Sasuke and walked over, playfully poking him in the arm. "Is that really you, Sasuke? That's the most I've heard you talk in three years," Naruto remarked with a mixture of surprise and amusement.

Sasuke, though slightly annoyed, couldn't help but retort. "Back off, loser," he replied, finding Naruto's antics somewhat annoying.

"That's the Sasuke I know!" Naruto exclaimed, poking him again playfully.

Sakura quickly intervened, positioning herself between the two before their banter escalated into another fight like the one they had in Wave. She remembered the havoc they wreaked on Tazuna's house, and the poor bridge builder was still recovering from the damage. In truth, she knew it was partially her fault for goading Naruto into defending her when Sasuke yelled at her. It was an old habit from their dating days that she occasionally used to chase away guys that would hit on her.

"Come on, guys. Let's not do this in front of all the other teams," Sakura pleaded, stepping between Naruto and Sasuke and gently pushing them apart. She reminded herself that these were just young boys, always ready for a fight, and not the men they had become later in life.

Naruto felt a rush of surprise as Sakura suddenly grabbed his jacket and pulled him close, as his heart skipped a beat. He could sense the intensity in her actions as she backed them away from Sasuke, putting distance between them and the avenger. Naruto felt there was an unspoken connection between them, a closeness that he couldn't ignore.

Looking at her hand Sakura released his jacket, Naruto's eyes met hers, searching for the meaning behind her actions. He saw a mixture of vulnerability and a need in her gaze, a silent plea for understanding. At that moment, Naruto realized that their bond ran deeper than friendship, and he couldn't ignore the feelings stirring within him. He would have to ask Iruka Sensei if he was old enough now to date.

As if he had heard his name Iruka sensei ran over, "Naruto, you have to come with me, the Hokage is asking to see you.", said Iruka

Out of the corner of his eye, Naruto noticed Asuma Sensei talking to Ino and quickly leaving the arena. A sense of urgency surged within him, and he exchanged a nod with Iruka before swiftly making his way out.

Sakura, catching sight of Ino's interaction with her own sensei, exclaimed, "No way am I being left out of this!" She hurriedly followed Naruto, trailing behind him like a silent shadow. Amidst the bustling activity of chunin running around the Hokage tower, Sakura went unnoticed, except by Ino, who gave her a nervous smile, acknowledging her presence as they walked into the Hokage's office.

Naruto looked around, eyes bright as he thought, 'This will be my office someday.', as he moved to stand tall in front of the old man, or Jiji as he liked to call him. Soon Ino was at his side and he could just feel Sakura was somewhere in the room.

"Naruto, I have a very important mission for you.", said the Hokage placing his pipe in its holder on the desk.

"What do you need, Jiji?" Naruto exclaimed, his voice echoing in the room, he had to volumes, loud and louder.

The Hokage picked up his pipe from its holder, his gaze steady as he explained the gravity of the situation. "There is something lurking in the depths of the Forest of Death, Naruto. We must uncover its purpose and potential threat before it's too late."

Naruto's eyebrows knitted together in confusion. "But isn't Kakashi sensei already investigating the forest?" he asked, remembering Kakashi's mission from only an hour ago.

The Hokage nodded, acknowledging Naruto's observation. "Indeed, Kakashi is involved. However, this mission requires a broader perspective. We need to understand how this unknown entity affects the wildlife and, more importantly, how it could impact our village."

Naruto as always was ready to take on any challenge. With a nod, he declared, "Sure, Jiji. Just tell me what I need to do."

The Hokage's eyes twinkled with pride as he admired Naruto's unwavering spirit. "We cannot risk sending individuals into the forest directly, as it possesses a corrupting influence. However, your ability to create shadow clones offers a unique advantage."

Curiosity sparked in Naruto's eyes as he listened intently. The Hokage continued, "Your clones will be immune to the forest's influence if they remain connected to someone outside the affected zone. That's where Ino comes in."

Naruto turned to Ino, who stood beside him, her presence providing a sense of reassurance. The Hokage explained, "Ino will use her mind-linking jutsu to establish a connection between your thoughts and those of your clones. She will relay the information they gather to Skikaku Nara, our esteemed Jonin Commander. He will analyze their findings."

Naruto spoke up, his voice tinged with a hint of anxiety. "What do you mean, Jiji?" He could feel the restlessness building within him, eager to understand the intricacies of the mission.

The Hokage's gaze shifted to Ino, who stood beside Naruto with a sense of purpose. With a calm yet firm tone, the Hokage explained, "We can't afford to send individuals into the depths of the forest, for its malevolent presence would consume them. However, your unique ability to create shadow clones presents an opportunity."

Naruto's brows furrowed as he processed the information. The notion that his shadow clones could navigate the dangerous forest he knew but the method of connecting their minds left him uncertain. The worry that nagged at him started to dissipate slightly as he waited for the Hokage to elaborate.

Ino stepped forward, her voice was soothing yet determined. "I will use my mind-linking jutsu to establish a connection between your thoughts and those of your clones," she explained, her eyes meeting Naruto's with a reassuring gaze. "Through this connection, I will relay what your clones see to Skikaku Nara. He will analyze the information and provide insights on what needs to be done."

"I don't know Jiji, I can make a lot of clones," said Naruto looking over at Skikaku

"Don't worry, Naruto. I am sure I can handle it," Skikaku reassured with a slight smile, his confidence exuding from his words. Deep inside, he knew the responsibility of analyzing the information from Naruto's vast army of clones was no small feat. It required immense mental fortitude to process the collective observations of a hundred sets of eyes simultaneously.

Skikaku had honed his analytical skills over the years, serving as the Jōnin Commander and overseeing countless missions. His mind was a wellspring of knowledge and strategy, capable of deciphering intricate details and drawing crucial insights from even the most complex scenarios. With each passing challenge, his mental resilience grew, preparing him for extraordinary tasks like this.

As he contemplated the enormity of the task before him, Skikaku couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation. The prospect of unraveling the mysteries of the Forest of Death through the eyes of Naruto's clones ignited his intellectual curiosity. It was an opportunity to delve into the unknown, to gain insights into not only the forest but how the shadow clone jutsu worked.

"But, Jiji," Naruto began, tapping his muscular abs, "what about... you know?" He struggled to find the right words to express his concern.

The Hokage understood the underlying question and the potential risks involved. With a calm and understanding expression, he addressed Naruto's unspoken worry. "Naruto, the decision rests with you. If you trust Ino completely and are willing to protect her, even against your prisoner, then we can proceed."

Naruto's eyes widened momentarily, realizing the weight of the situation. The power within him, the Nine-Tailed Fox, had the potential to wreak havoc if not properly controlled. Yet, his bond with Ino and his unwavering need to fulfill any mission given to him pushed him forward.

Without hesitation, Naruto's voice rang out, brimming with conviction. "I would protect Ino with my life. I won't let anything endanger her or our mission." Looking over to Ino, Naruto couldn't help but notice the radiant smile on her face. It was as if she had just won the greatest of prizes. Her eyes sparkled with excitement and a hint of admiration or something more, reflecting the trust she had in him.

"Good then let's move to the main entrance of the Forest of Death and begin.", said the Hokage.

…..

At the main gate entering the Forest of Death, Naruto and Ino stood side by side, preparing to embark on their mission. Linking hands their minds intertwined as Ino formed a mental connection, she felt ready to facilitate the transmission of information between Naruto's clones and Skikaku Nara, the Jonin Commander. Telling Naruto thought the link she was ready Naruto focused his chakra, and with a burst of energy, he created a hundred shadow clones, each one a perfect replica of himself.

The forest of death loomed ahead, as the clones spread out, disappearing into the dense foliage, their minds merged and linked with Naruto's thoughts connecting with Ino's. The influx of sensory information overwhelmed Ino for a moment, the multitude of inner voices and perspectives flooding her mind and forcing her to sit hard on the ground. As Naruto moved to sit with her hands still linked, Ino, her training, and mental fortitude, quickly regained control, blocking out the individual thoughts of the clones, focusing only on the link.

Ino then reached out with her other hand linking it with Skikaku, she concentrated on relaying the sights, sounds, and sensations experienced by the clones to Skikaku. She focused on allowing all the information to flow to Skikaku, ensuring that the most critical details reached the Jonin Commander. Her psychic abilities allowed her to transmit the clones' observations to Skikaku in real time.

Meanwhile, Naruto for the first time maintained a strong link with his clones, keeping them connected to Ino and Skikaku. He could monitor their progress, guiding them through the perilous forest, aware of the risks they faced. The forest of death was known for its treacherous traps, deadly creatures, and hidden dangers, many of his clones were unable to avoid them and were destroyed by the creatures that found them.

As the clones delved deeper into the forest, they encountered more challenges and obstacles losing more of their number as they moved deeper. They navigated through dense thickets, traversed steep cliffs, and encountered creatures both mundane and formidable. Naruto's clones relied on their teamwork, agility, and the information relayed back to them by Ino to navigate the more dangerous terrain. They learned that Skikaku had personal knowledge of every tree and hill within the forest that he shared with them.

As Skikaku meticulously analyzed the incoming information. He studied the information from the clones, deciphering the patterns, and searching for any signs of the mysterious presence that threatened the village. Skikaku's experience and tactical expertise enabled him to identify potential threats and develop strategies to counter them. He soon found that the creatures and even the trees were affected in an almost perfect circle around the tower at the center of the forest. Crossing that invisible line they found monsters that would normally kill on sight just watching them as they ran by.

Hours passed as Naruto's clones continued their exploration, pushing deeper into the forest center. Eventually, as the clones reached the limits of their endurance, and their chakra drained away, Naruto calls them to regroup and return. One by one, the weakened clones are dispersed, their memories and experiences merging back into Naruto's consciousness. The mental link between Naruto, Ino, and Skikaku dissolved, as Ino falls back onto the ground near chakra exhaustion. The mission in the forest of death came to a halt.

Sakura who had been hovering around like a nervous hen this whole time comes running over and checks on Ino. She confirmed what she suspected, Ino has chakra exhaustion but would only need rest. Looking up at Naruto as he hovered over them she said, "She will be fine, just lots of rest for a couple of days, how are you feeling?"

Naruto rubbed the back of his head, a headache that blurred his vision pounding behind his eyes. Sensing Sakura's concern, he admitted, "Great, Sakura-chan, just a little dizzy."

Sakura realized that Naruto's headache was a common side effect when he used clones, a fact he tried his best to hide from her for years but she knew what to do. "Come on, I know how to help with that," she said, guiding him to a nearby spot.

While medics attended to Ino, Sakura focused attention on Naruto, she was well aware of how much pain so many clones forced their memories back into his mind would cause. It was only Naruto being obstinate when he said he was only 'dizzy' when she could see he couldn't even focus his eyes on her.

As Naruto sat on the log, Sakura positioned herself behind him, her hands gently massaging his shoulders and working their way up into his hair. The soothing touch combined with her chakra flow began to alleviate his tension, gradually lowering his blood pressure and restoring his heart rate.

Naruto let out a contented sigh, feeling the stress melt away. "Wow, Sakura-chan, that feels great," he remarked, closing his eyes and surrendering to the relaxing sensation.

Sakura smiled, enjoying the opportunity to provide comfort to her dearest love. "You can always count on me, Naruto. I'm here for you," she said, a mischievous grin dancing on her lips. This was her way of asserting her presence, subtly reminding him of their deep connection amidst any advances from Ino.

Just then, Shikamaru's bored voice broke the tranquility. He stood a few feet away, his expression reflecting his weariness. "This is so troublesome, but my father insisted that you guys come back to the village with me," he mumbled, his nonchalant demeanor contrasting with the urgency of the situation. When Sakura looked at him she had a moment where she thought he was asleep standing there.

Naruto reluctantly opened his eyes, the temporary respite fading away as the weight of their responsibilities resurfaced. "Alright, let's go," he replied, pushing himself up from the log. Sakura withdrew her hands, a touch of disappointment flickering in her eyes as their momentary connection was interrupted. Next time she planned to steal a kiss and see what happens from there.

Back at the Hokage's office, everyone was looking at a map Skikaku had unrolled across a table. It was a detailed map of the forest with every major tree, rock, and cave marked along with an extensive tunnel system that connected the tower with lookout points all around the forest. This was how the Jonin Sensei kept an eye on their student all the while staying hidden by these well-placed and hidden spots.

Skikaku began placing markers around the forest at locations the clones had first spotted animals acting out of character and as he worked everyone could see a circle forming with the tower almost at its center. Once done he stood back and looked at his work with a hand to his chin.

"Here is where the clones had the hardest time, there is a cave here used to store emergency supplies.", he said placing his finger at the center of the circle.

"It is also were Kakashi and his teams track appear near the entrance before going inside.", said Skikaku drawing a red circle around the cave marker.

"So there was no sign of any battle then". Said the Hokage for once without his trusty pipe.

"No whatever this is, it's not confrontational, more of a passive-aggressive type of attack.", said Skikaku.

"That is if it's an attack at all.", said Shikamaru moving to look over the map.

"Do you see something I missed.", said his father with a hint of pride.

"Not what I see but what I don't see. There are no vectors of attack, no apparent objective or goal, this is more like a flood or a hail storm. It has structure but no purpose.", said Shikamaru.

"We are assuming we are being attacked because we attack others but this is a natural event of some kind or whatever force this is doesn't see us as worth attacking.", added Shikamaru backing away and falling into one of the many chairs around the room.

"In his springtime of youth I think he is right!", exclaimed Mighty Guy seeing a battle what wasn't a battle unfold on the map.

"Then what do you suggest we do.", said Skikaku to his son kicking his foot to see if he was awake.

"We need to send in the clones again in a couple of hours to see if the affected circle is growing and hope that Kakashi returns with some good news.", said Shikamaru

"Ino will not be able to use that jutsu for a couple of days and I don't think there are any other Yamanaka's that would be able to link minds with Naruto.", said Inoichi from the back of the group

The Hokage stared at the map tapping his finger on his chin as he looked at this situation from every angle. Drawing himself up to his full height he said. "Naruto I need you to send another group of clones into the forest and find Kakashi to tell him to return."

Naruto shared a look with Sakura knowing that her healing was far from complete but the crowd of shinobi didn't need to know that. To them, he was Naruto the unstoppable most unpredictable ninja and he would not let them see him in any other way.

"OK Jiji, let do this.", he yelled heading out of the office with a stream of Jonin following behind.

Back at the Forest of Death, Naruto stood in solemn silence, his gaze fixed upon the imposing main gate. He drew in a deep breath, the air filling his lungs with anticipation and sheer willpower. With a swift and practiced motion, he formed his trademark hand sign, his fingers weaving through the familiar pattern. "Multi-Shadow Clone Jutsu!" he screamed out, his voice resounding through the air.

In an instant, a cascade of clones burst forth, their numbers multiplying rapidly until over a hundred identical figures stood alongside Naruto. With a determined gesture of his outstretched arm, he directed his legion of clones, sending them charging into the depths of the forest. Each clone possessed a piece of his essence, an extension of his very being, some had claimed a piece of his very soul, ready to unravel the mysteries that awaited them.

Sakura, standing faithfully by Naruto's side, watched him intently blocking out the dozen or so Jonin standing around. Concern etched across her face, she spoke gently, her voice filled with genuine care for only is ears. "Are you okay, Naruto?"

Naruto turned to face Sakura, a flicker of weariness and vulnerability crossing his features. Despite his courageous facade, he knew that the burden of using this jutsu was not without its toll. He offered her a small smile, one that revealed a glimpse of his true self. "Yeah, Sakura-chan, for now. But I have a feeling that once they start dispelling, I might need your magic touch again," he admitted, baring his vulnerability to her and her alone.

Sakura's eyes softened with understanding, recognizing the trust he placed in her. She placed a reassuring arm across his shoulder, offering silent support.

"God, it smells in here," Kurenai exclaimed as they cautiously entered the cave. The putrid odor enveloped them, assaulting their senses with a nauseating intensity. The air felt heavy and oppressive, like it was sticking to your skin adding to the eerie atmosphere within. Kurenai's words echoed through the cavern, their echos breaking the unsettling silence.

They wasted no time in making their way further into the cave, their purpose clear. They had quickly discovered the cave at the center of the circle of affected animals, now as they moved inside to confirm the mysterious phenomenon. The Jonin at the rear held a simple campfire jutsu overhead, the small flame casting light and shadow all around them. What they found was disturbing, animals lying lifeless as if trapped in an otherworldly grip with a black slim slowing consuming them. It was a macabre scene that sent a chill down their spines.

The cave, once a storage facility for supplies, sprawled before them, its vastness creating an ominous backdrop. Kurenai's memories resurfaced as she recognized the familiar surroundings, a reminder of her past as a Chunin. The knowledge of the containers she had once placed here added an unsettling layer to the current situation.

Kakashi, ever watchful, took command of the moment. His single, piercing red eye emitted a faint glow, casting an ethereal light that partially illuminated his face. Turning back to his team, he spoke with an edge of caution in his voice. "Keep everyone in sight," Kakashi commanded his words resonating through the cave. "I don't want someone going missing in the dark."

As the passageway curved into the ground, they lost sight of the world outside, enveloped by an eerie darkness. But what awaited them in the depths of the cave was even more distressing. A lifeless shinobi lay motionless, their body barely visible amidst the deep shadows that consumed the chamber. The air grew heavy with an ominous presence as they ventured further, their nerves on edge. The protective jutsu they had cast on themselves strained against the waves of despair emanating from the glowing circle that floated at the end of the chamber.

"Kakashi, wait, do you see that?" Kurenai's voice quivered as she focused on the fallen body, still several dozen feet away. A faint hissing sound seemed to fill the air, sending shivers down their spines.

Kakashi halted, his Sharingan eye piercing through the darkness to examine the scene. He had witnessed more death than he cared to remember, but he hadn't paid much attention to this particular individual. The realm of the living didn't often benefit from the scrutiny of the dead.

"Those are snakes," Kakashi remarked, his voice laced with a hint of concern, as he noticed the serpents coiling around the fallen figure biting back the black slim. "I believe that might be Anko," he added, scanning the chamber for any lurking enemies ready to take advantage of their focus on the fallen shinobi.

Kurenai hurried over to her fallen comrade, as she hears Kakashi telling her to stay back she still rushed forward her steps echoing in the eerie silence of the chamber. As she reached Anko's side, she noticed the faint rise and fall of her chest, indicating signs of life. However, Anko appeared visibly weakened, her once vibrant chakra signature almost non-existent.

"Anko... Can you hear me?" Kurenai's voice filled with concern as she gently placed a hand on Anko's shoulder. The touch seemed to rouse her friend from her state of exhaustion.

Anko's eyes fluttered open, revealing a glimmer of recognition. Her voice was weak, barely above a whisper. "Kurenai... I... I underestimated... this place. Leave before it takes you to." She struggled to form coherent words, her body visibly drained from the ordeal.

Kurenai knew they needed to find a way to replenish Anko's chakra, or she wouldn't be able to continue the mission and would end with a dead tokubetsu jōnin and her friend. Glancing back at Kakashi, she conveyed her concern through a shared gaze, silently urging him to help devise a plan.

Kakashi nodded, his masked face hiding any hint of emotion. "We need to restore her chakra, have her swallow this," he said, his voice steady and measured as he tossed a small bottle of soldier pills to Kurenai

Pushing two pills between her teeth, Kurenai and a Joinin carefully lifted Anko, supporting her weakened form between them as they navigated through the chamber. The glow of the mysterious circle at the end seemed to intensify, casting haunting shadows on the walls. The presence of the snakes coiling around Anko's body only added to the growing sense of unease that hung in the air.

"What is that thing?" questioned the Jonin, his hand ablaze with flickering flames held high above his head. The group of shinobi stood at a distance, their gazes fixed upon the mysterious shimmering pool that lay before them.

Kakashi, his Sharingan eye spinning with intensity, stepped forward, his body poised and alert. With a series of swift hand signs, he signaled for the others to remain vigilant and keep watch, while he took on the task of investigating the strange phenomenon.

As he approached the rippling pool, Kakashi's analytical mind raced to comprehend the nature of this anomaly. He could feel a subtle disturbance in the fabric of space and time, an indication that they were dealing with something far beyond their comprehension. The gravity of the situation hung heavy in the air, not one of them has seen such a thing.

Carefully, Kakashi extended a hand towards the surface of the shimmering pool, his fingers stopping just short of making contact. He could sense powerful energy emanating from within, a force that defied their understanding of the natural world.

His eye flickered with curiosity and caution as he observed the swirling patterns within the pool. The distortion in space and time seemed to create a mesmerizing effect as if beckoning the daring to delve deeper into its enigmatic depths. His Sharingan spun wildly as he learned of the nature of this thing.

"What do you see, Kakashi-sensei?" inquired one of the younger shinobi, his voice tinged with a mix of awe and apprehension.

Kakashi's gaze remained fixed on the mysterious pool as he spoke with a measured tone. "This is a rift in space and time, a convergence of dimensions. I see worlds within worlds within worlds, It holds great power and enormous danger. We must exercise extreme caution."

The tension in the air heightened as the group absorbed Kakashi's words. They understood that their mission had taken an unexpected turn, plunging them into the realm of the unknown. The weight of the waves of despair was heavily upon them all. Their protect jutsu was wearing thin and they had to act now or not at all.

With a final glance at the shimmering pool, Kakashi made a decision. "We cannot leave this unattended. We must secure the area and report this to the village. Stay vigilant and be prepared for anything."

As he spoke, the echo of footsteps reached their ears, growing louder and more numerous with each passing second. From the depths of the cavern, a group of Naruto clones emerged, their presence both surprising and relieving.

"Kakashi-sensei, the Hokage has ordered your return. Your mission has been recalled," declared the lead clone, its voice carrying the weight of the countless others who had ventured into the treacherous forest and hadn't made it.

Kakashi's brow furrowed, his mind racing to comprehend the implications of this sudden change in plans. The urgency in the clone's voice left little room for doubt. Something of grave importance must have occurred back at the village.

"Understood," Kakashi responded, his tone resolute. "We will regroup and return to the village immediately. But first, we must ensure the safety of this area and gather any information we can."

The other shinobi nodded in agreement, their focus unwavering despite the unexpected turn of events. They had come too far and witnessed too much to leave the mysterious pool unguarded.

"Take positions and maintain vigilance," Kakashi commanded, his voice firm and authoritative. "We must secure the area and gather any relevant intel before we depart."

As the team organized themselves, Kakashi's mind raced with questions. What had prompted the recall of their mission? What had transpired in the village that required their immediate attention? The sense of urgency only fueled their determination to complete their current task if somehow this was attacking the village as they stood there wasting time.

"Kakashi Sensei, please! The Hokage said…" pleaded the lead Naruto clone as he rushed over to Kakashi. Naruto's proximity to the glowing pool seemed to awaken something, as black tentacles shot out of the darkness, attacking them mindlessly in a flailing frenzy. Simultaneously, the glow intensified, and a blue, almost black, form shot out of the pool, wrapping its arms around Naruto. The other clones jumped to their leader's defense, grabbing hold of his legs and pulling him back. A desperate tug-of-war ensued, with Naruto screaming in the midst.

Kakashi, unable to assist directly, focused on defending his remaining team members from being dragged into the engulfing darkness. They quickly realized that fire jutsu was the most effective counter to the black slime, as Kakashi and the other Jonin unleashed jets of flame to push it back.

Amidst the chaos, Kurenai heard a scream of such unbearable pain that it sent shivers down her spine. She turned to witness the end of the tug-of-war, as the Naruto clone and three of his defenders were ultimately overcome and pulled into the swirling pool of energy. Each agonizing scream echoed in her ears as they vanished beneath the surface. It was unclear why they hadn't dispersed like other clones, but the last two remaining clones leaped back just in time, evading the grasping arms that emerged from the pool.

"Kakashi Sensei, we have to go NOW!" both surviving clones urgently shouted, struggling against the relentless onslaught from the pool and the encroaching tentacles.

"Kurenai, take Anko out of here now, Naruto stay with me and help hold it off. Everyone move.", commanded Kakashi as he unleashed a massive lava jutsu he had copied from an Iwagakure Jonin many years ago.

As everyone ran out Kakashi turned to Naruto. "I am sorry Naruto but I need you to stay and hold this back for a moment longer." The two remaining clones understood as they braced themselves for their inevitable end.

"We got this Kakashi Sensei.", they shouted.

As Kakashi turned to leave, a surge of electricity crackled in his hand, forming the iconic Chidori. The blue-white lightning danced and arced along the length of his extended arm, illuminating the darkness of the cavern. With anger etched on his face for what he had to do, he traced the electrified blade along the rough surface of the cave wall as he sprinted toward the exit. Each swift movement left behind a trail of sparks, marking his path like a celestial beacon.

The walls of the cave trembled and quaked under the unleashed power. Loose rocks and debris rained down, filling the air with a cacophony of crashing sounds. The trembling intensified, causing the weakened walls to crumble and fracture, their integrity giving way to the force unleashed by Kakashi's jutsu.

The slim creature, sensing the impending collapse, thrashed and flailed in a desperate attempt to escape. Its elongated appendages lashed out wildly, searching for something to latch onto, each move toward the sunlight stopped by an ever-weakening Naruto clone as they fought to the last. But the collapsing walls swallowed them whole, sealing them within the bowels of the shattered cave.

As the dust settled and the cacophony subsided, Kakashi emerged from the cave, his body covered in a fine layer of debris. His gaze shifted to his team, his visible eye reflecting a mix of exhaustion and grim satisfaction. The collapsing cave had bought them precious time, a momentary respite to gather their strength and plan their next move.

The air outside was tinged with the scent of earth and freedom, a stark contrast to the stifling darkness they had left behind. The dappled sunlight filtered through the dense canopy, casting a mesmerizing play of light and shadow on the forest floor. As the gentle breeze rustled the leaves, it carried with it a sense of renewal and life.

Kakashi's expression hardened, his visible eye reflecting a mixture of pain and regret. The weight of his decision bore heavily on his shoulders, knowing that he had commanded one of his precious students to remain behind, to sacrifice himself in his place. Even though it had been a clone, a mere projection of Naruto's essence, it still pained Kakashi to know that the memory of that order would linger in the real Naruto's consciousness.

The haunting realization gnawed at his heart, reminding him of the sacrifices he had ordered on so many missions over his life. It was a burden he carried as a leader, forced to make difficult choices for the sake of the mission and the greater good. But behind his mask, hidden from the world, his anguish was palpable, etching deep lines of sorrow on his face. He was a survivor but at what cost?

Yet, even in the face of his remorse, Kakashi's will remained unyielding. He would not let this sacrifice be in vain. As he turned his gaze to the remaining members of his team, he vowed to protect them fiercely. With a heavy sigh, Kakashi pushed his inner turmoil aside and called upon his years of experience as a shinobi. He knew that dwelling on the past would not change what had transpired. The memorial stone has taught him that hard lesson over the years. Instead, he focused on the path forward, on what lay ahead. With each step, he carried the weight of his decisions, determined to forge a brighter future for his team and the village they all swore to protect.

…..

"Sakura-chan I was wondering, would you like to get ramen with me when this is all over.", said Naruto as they stood around waiting for Kakashi to return. The memories of each clone finding its end by falling off a tree or having an oversized leach fall on its back or a hundred other horrible deaths he pushed to the back of his mind.

The Forest of Death had taught him one important lesson, that death does come in all shapes and sizes.

"Sure Naruto, that sound like fun.", said Sakura giving him a bright smile as thoughts of winning him over Ino filled her with hope of her future becoming true once again.

"Great Sakura-chan we can …..", in the middle of his words Naruto's eyes grew large, larger than any human's eyes should be allowed to grow before he dropped to his knees like a puppet with its strings cut letting out a wail of pain that made the hundred or so shinobi all jump at the same time.

"Naruto, Naruto, what's wrong, ", cried out Sakura as she ran her hands over Naruto checking for any injury and finding nothing she hugged him close as his whole body moved in pain. Words that had no meaning bubbled out of Naruto as he formed at the mouth. He was twitching so hard Sakura even with her strength had a hard time holding him down.

As Sakura desperately held onto Naruto, her worry quickly transformed into terror. His wail of pain reverberated through the forest, sending a chilling shiver down the spines of all who heard it. The once cheerful atmosphere now turned suffocating and filled with an unexplained dread.

Naruto's body contorted in agonizing spasms, his features contorted in a twisted expression of torment. The sight was so horrifying that even the most battle-hardened shinobi couldn't help but feel their hearts skip a beat. The sounds he emitted were otherworldly as if the very essence of suffering was escaping from his lips.

Sakura's hands trembled as she desperately tried to comfort him, but her efforts were in vain. Naruto's wails grew louder, echoing through the trees like a haunting melody. The forest seemed to respond as if it too sensed the profound anguish that consumed him.

Naruto's tortured cries filled the clearing, his words garbled and incomprehensible. It was as if the sheer magnitude of his suffering defied the limits of human expression. Sakura, overwhelmed by the intensity of his pain, could only offer whispered words of comfort, her voice drowned out by the anguish echoing through the forest.

The scene became a macabre dance of despair, Naruto's body writhing with uncontrollable spasms as they all heard his bones break, first an arm then a leg as if possessed by an unseen force that was shaking him. Each convulsion not only amplified the sense of dread that permeated the air, but seem to break him a little more with each spasm sending tremors of terror through the hearts of those who witness it.

Sakura's great strength faltered as she struggled to hold Naruto down, her arms trembling under the strain. Tears mingled with her frustration as she fought to hold him still, a sense of helplessness washing over her. The forest beyond the gate seemed to echo Naruto's agony, its vibrant beauty transformed into a sinister backdrop for their harrowing ordeal.

The seconds stretched into an eternity, the torment seeming to linger indefinitely. And then, as suddenly as it had begun, Naruto's cries faded, his body falling into an unsettling stillness. The silence that followed was heavy, suffocating, and laced with an unspoken understanding that they had entered a realm far more terrifying than they could have imagined.

Sakura remained frozen in shock, her eyes wide with disbelief. The hopeful promise of a ramen date had been shattered, replaced by a chilling reality that defied comprehension. Naruto's body lay shattered and broken in her arms as medics and even the Hokage came running over.

As the remaining shinobi watched the medics work, they exchanged worried glances, and a collective unease settled upon them. They felt that this was only the beginning of a nightmare they were ill-prepared to face.

Shinobi in the vicinity fell into a helpless horror, their fear mingling with Naruto's torment. The once vibrant surroundings now appeared distorted and menacing, as if they had been tainted by the darkness that had enveloped the forest center.

Time seemed to stretch as the excruciating episode continued, each passing second feeling like an eternity of anguish. Sakura could only cling to Naruto as the medics worked, her tears mixing as they fell from her face. All her years of training were forgotten in an instant the hope of a joyful future with him had been shattered, replaced by a haunting fear.

Sakura's hands shook as she pressed them against her mouth, her eyes wide with shock and disbelief. Naruto's cries were now replaced by her own as the medics carried him away to rush him to the hospital. The Hokage screamed orders that he would receive the best medal care the village had to offer.

As Sakura sat on the ground crying she felt someone approach seeing a pair of sandals. Hinata stood before Sakura, emanating an aura of forcefulness and an air of mystery. Sakura mindlessly stared at her feet, she wore black sandals, their sturdy appearance reflecting her determined nature. Moving up, her pale legs looked strong and tone from years of hard work.

Her attire consisted of black shorts that clung to her figure, emphasizing her athletic build. Above, she donned a mesh armored shirt, the material appearing taut against her frame, showing too much skin but hinting at her strength and resilience. The mesh pattern, rather than adding allure, seemed to exude a sense of seriousness and an unyielding will.

As Sakura's gaze rose, she couldn't help but notice the intensity in Hinata's eyes. Her gaze, piercing and unwavering, conveyed a no-nonsense demeanor and an unapologetic attitude. Her dark blue hair, styled with purposeful simplicity, fell in untamed waves, framing her face with an edgy allure as she looked down.

Hinata's hands, slightly calloused from rigorous training, possessed a firm grip and a determined touch. They were tools of action, capable of delivering force when necessary. Her arms, partly visible through the mesh material, appeared strong and defined, a testament to her disciplined training and formidable combat skills.

"We need to talk," Hinata said firmly, her tone leaving no room for argument. With a strong grip, she pulled Sakura to her feet and guided her away from the scene, leaving the bewildered shinobi and the shattered hope of their ramen date behind.

Together, Hinata and Sakura ventured into the shadows, their steps carrying them further away from prying eyes. Once they were out of sight, Hinata abruptly halted, spinning the still-confused and heartbroken Sakura around to face her. The intensity in Hinata's eyes demanded Sakura's full attention.

"I see now that this is not my past, and I suspect it is not yours or Ino's either. This is where the red scroll was designed to take me—the beginning," Hinata explained, her voice steady and resolute, bearing the weight of a seasoned shinobi far beyond her years.

Sakura's brow furrowed with confusion, her thoughts still clouded by her concern for Naruto. "What do you mean?" she asked, her voice tinged with a mix of curiosity and lingering worry about Naruto.

Hinata took a deep breath, her Byakugan eyes blazing with piercing focus. Sakura could only imagine the depths of insight Hinata possessed with her extraordinary ability. It was as if she could perceive the unseen, unraveling the mysteries that lay hidden.

"The Red Scroll, the very scroll I used to come here, was specifically crafted to bring me to this specific location and the ability to see my target. I had initially believed it was intended to eliminate Menma in this timeline. However, now I realize that my target is something far more sinister," Hinata revealed, her words resonating with an air of grave importance.

Sakura's eyes widened, captivated by Hinata's revelation. She could sense the gravity of the situation but still struggled to grasp its full implications. "What are you talking about?" she pressed, eager to understand what was happening.

Hinata's gaze remained fixed on a distant point, her mind seemingly delving into the depths of the past and future. The power the scroll had gifted her was now fully matured. "The evil that Menma unleashed needed time to grow, a hidden and undetected place where it could flourish until it was ready to be summoned into all our futures," Hinata explained, her words painting a chilling picture of the ominous presence that lurked within the confines of the forest.

As Sakura absorbed the weight of Hinata's words, a shiver ran down her spine. The gravity of the situation was slowly sinking in, and she realized that they were standing at the epicenter of a malevolent force that threatened their very existence. One that was designed to not only destroy this very world but countless other worlds all from this single point.

Sakura's grief momentarily subsided as her analytical mind kicked into gear. She looked directly into Hinata's eyes and spoke with a mix of resolve and concern. "So let me get this straight: the Menma of your world sent back something that grew into that creature, which not only destroyed my village, my life god damit but also countless other worlds like the one Ino came from?"

Hinata's response was solemn and carried the weight of a heavy burden. "Yes, Sakura, that is correct."

A sense of urgency filled Sakura's voice as she pressed further. "What do we do about it? How do we stop this?"

Hinata's Byakugan scanned the surrounding darkness, searching for answers. "I do not know. However, I believe that you and Ino have been brought here for a reason, a purpose beyond our understanding."

Sakura's worry deepened as she considered the limited time they had. "Ino will need a few more days to recover. Is that enough time?"

Hinata's pale lavender eyes, enhanced by the piercing gaze of her Byakugan, locked onto the depths of the forest. Sakura felt an intense chill crawl up her spine as she sensed the weight of Hinata's stare passing through her, as though the Hyuga heiress could see into the very core of her being.

"It appears to be trapped for now," Hinata spoke with a mixture of trepidation and a somber acceptance. "But we must remain alert. It requires time to reach its full strength, now it is only at a fraction of the power it had when it razed my village and brought ruin to the world I once knew."

Sakura's heart pounded in her chest as the gravity of the situation sank in. The thing that killed all that she loved, crushed her children alive under a mountain was growing at the center of the forest and she was helpless to do anything about it. At least for now.

"Let's go to the hospital and check on Naruto and Ino," Sakura asserted, her voice filled with a purpose to do something of value. There was no room for hesitation or doubt. They needed to gather their strength and confront the encroaching darkness before it consumed everything they held dear.
