It was cold, but he didn't feel it. He knew that it was cold and what coldness felt like, but it didn't matter to him. His skin and blood were already frozen. The harsh winter around him was nothing. The snow and ice that hit his skin along with icy wind actually felt warmer than his skin.

He didn't have problems with seeing where he was going either. Red eyes were focused on following the person in front of him. he had no idea where they were going or why, he didn't ask either. Maybe he should.

It has only been a few days since he had fully woken up. He had no problem following his father. He had led him all the way here and there must be some reason for it. He shouldn't doubt his father, and it didn't seem to be his place to ask, but he couldn't help but wonder…

"Where are we going father?"

He picked up a slight chuckle coming from the devil ahead of him. Whether it was amusement or something else, he didn't know. But it didn't sound angry, which was something.

"My boy, we are going to visit some friends. They are able to lead us to the entrance to the underworld. Only then will we be able to free our kind and become the new rulers of this world and the other" his father explained.

Friends? He didn't remember that devils even had those. But there was the possibility that he wasn't talking about devils, but humans. There wasn't much he remembered after all. Father said that the humans messed with his head and now almost all of his memories were gone.

Seeing these humans in the cave, them looking at him like he had just punched them, felt weird. All of them looked at him with disbelieve and some of them stood out even more. The woman with blond hair had tried to reach him.

The other with wind magic as well. He especially looked desperate to get closer. He looked at him like something wasn't right. Like something went wrong. If he asked father, he'd probably tell him that they were faking it. Because they had used him to their advantage.

After hours of walking, father stopped at a large building. No one was guarding it. He knocked loudly a few times before waiting. The younger devil didn't know how long he was waiting in the snow, but eventually someone opened the door.

He was tall, wearing an almost armor-like suit with a heavy cloak that could easily shield him from the cold winter weather humans suffered from. A large crown sat upon his head and right below his hairline was a black mark that ran right across his forehead.

The high boots were perfect for tracking in the snow and holding his balance on the ice that covered the stone ground. Green eyes scanning them shortly before smiling mysteriously.

"My, I have not expected anyone this early" the man said.

Early? The young devil wasn't sure, but was it early when the sun was setting on the horizon? Or was he talking about something else?

"I have not expected to come here myself. But I believe that we have much to talk about" Zagred grinned.

The smile of the man widened before he opened the door even more. "Of course, please come inside."

"Come Asta."

He didn't waste any time following his father inside. He may not be affected by the cold weather, but he still preferred to be inside.

Once inside, Asta didn't waste any time t look around in wonder. Even if he didn't remember much, it seemed to be the largest building he had ever seen in his life. It was impressive.

"Please, follow me" the man said as he begun to walk down the hall.

Asta trailed after them, not even bothering to hide his bewilderment. They passed many people and most of them seemed to be in awe at their appearance. Others were terrified enough to pretend not to see them. But no one said a word.

They must not be used to seeing devils. He couldn't blame them, not that he cared much. Asta was still too young to really understand how humans worked. He saw them scrubbing the windows, others were walking around with food or running with clothes.

They must be workers, he assumed.

"You must excuse the curiosity of my son" fathers voice brought him out of his thoughts. "He has recently lost his memories due to some humans messing with him."

He almost felt bad for getting caught, but he didn't. Because the man didn't seem to mind at all. "No worries" he said. "The plan will still work out just fine."

Plan? He didn't know about any plan, but he supposed they would tell him what he had to do. And he would comply. Because that is what father expected from him.

Once they entered a large room with a round table in the middle, the man offered for them to sit. There were two others already sitting at the table. Another man, and a woman.

While the man seemed bored out of his mind, the woman was more than exited. An eyepatch covering one of her eyes. The man had black markings as well. Asta guessed that the woman was having hers beneath the eyepatch.

Asta decided to look around the large room and ignore everything they were talking about. At least he wanted to. But apparently his attention was needed for whatever they were planning. Father had said something about freeing other devils. And these humans were okay with it?

"The original plan you had will not be necessary anymore" father said.

"How so? Do you not intent to open the gates of the underworld?" the man asked.

"No worries, Dante. My son has an ability that will make it far more easy."

Ah, so Dante was his name. He had never heard that name before. Then again, just like father had said, he didn't remember much at all. All he knew was what father told him. that the humans kidnapped him and messed with him. Yet he couldn't shake off the looks he received from the humans. It was weird.

"Which is?" the other man asked, still looking bored. The woman on the other hand looked at him with great interest.

"Asta here wields anti-magic. The complete opposite to our known magic. With this he can slice through the gates of hell and open them" he explained.

"WHOA!" suddenly, the woman jumped from the table right at him.

The young devil didn't know how to react or what to expect, but she didn't seem threatening to him in any way. She held onto his arm, glee in her eyes as she began tugging on his arm.

"Can you show me? Can we play? Please" she begged.

"Sister" Dante chided her.

Asta looked over to his father who just chuckled at the scene. What was he supposed to say? So, he just nodded, making her jump with joy.

"Anyway" father went back to the main topic. "All we need to do now, is finding the entrance."

"The entrance of hell? I'm afraid none of us know where it is. We'll have to search" Dante said.

Father let out a frustrated growl. The young devil wasn't surprised at his frustration. From what he had gathered, this plan had been going on for a long time. And now no one knew where the entrance of hell was? Damn.

"We'll start searching for it immediately" the bored man said.

"There should be someone that knows about it" the woman chirped.

"If humans do know about it, then they won't be so willing to talk about it" father said. "They would take a lot of time to make sure no one ever found it."

"Indeed" Dante hummed.

"Then start" father grumbled. "You have enough people in your army. Let them search every kingdom. Every inch, every corner. I've waited enough."

After that, he stormed out angrily. Asta blinked as he watched his father leave. Should he follow? Maybe not right now. They mysterious smile that Dante showed him made the young devil wonder if he knew more than he was saying.

"Well then" he spoke. "I will be preparing everything. The search will begin tomorrow morning. Why don't you go with Vanica to test your limits, young one."

Asta looked at him with confusion. He understood that the woman wanted to see what he could do and 'play with him', but he didn't understand why Dante thought he didn't know his limits.

"From what I gathered you have no knowledge of the past years. Maybe you and Vanica can train a bit to test your limits. It is rare that she finds someone to match her" the man explained.

Asta thought about it for a bit. There was a possibility that he could get new spells. And it could help when fighting the humans. So, the teen nodded.

"Yay!" Vanica jumped and dragged him out of the large room.

He found himself in some sort of training room. It was large enough to allow both of them to go full power. The ceiling reached higher than anything he could reach if he didn't have wings. The room itself larger than any house.

"I prefer this room" Vanica said. "It feels much better to fight in here than out in the snow. We may be used to it, but I don't like getting cold."

She was right. Not always would he have the luxury to choose the place he fought in.

"So, you have anti magic, right?" she asked.

"Yeah" he spoke for the first time that day.

"How does it work?" the wonder in her eyes was unnerving. Asta could tell that she was insane.

"It just does" he shrugged. "Most of it comes from the swords that I use."

For further explanation the young devil let the large sword float out of his Grimoire. It sunk into the ground, leaving small cracks in the ground.

Vanica eyes it with glee and interest. She seemed tempted to touch it but held herself back. It was better for her. From what he understood, she had a lot of magic. But at some point, everyone would feel weak.

"Can you do that without them too?" she asked.

Asta nodded. "But not as effective. Other than with the swords, I can only to it temporarily. After a few seconds that effect just stops. The swords can do that without taking pauses."

Vanica hummed to herself. "Explains why I only felt my magic being drained for some time."

"Sorry, I gotta work on that. I don't have much control yet."

"Oh, don't apologize" she grinned. "That is why Dante wanted you to work with me. I love trying out new things. And things that are different."

"And what do you do?" the devil raised an eyebrow.

"Me?!" her grin widened. "I myself use blood magic. But my devil has curse magic" she said.

"Your devil?"

"Have you not understood what is going on yet? Why we were so willing to let you and Zagred inside? Humans normally don't associate with devils. We work with them" she threw her arms out in a dramatic fashion.

"We will open the gates of hell and allow the devils of the underworld into this one."

Should he be worried? She was too ecstatic for his taste.

"Why would you do that. Not that I'm complaining" he shrugged. "But I don't see why you would want that."

Vanica laughed. "I need a reason? Okay! I think it will be fun."

"Fun?"

"Yeah! Watching the humans struggle to fight against devils while they either die or become slaves to them. My brothers and I will serve them as well, of course, but under much better circumstances."

Okay, now he was sure that she was insane. No human with common sense would do this. She was okay with serving devils as long as she had power. That was typical for humans. And they said that devils were cruel.

"Aaannnd" she began, arms behind her back and leaning forward. "I have no problem with serving you and Daddy dearest too."

Okay…no

He may be young, but Asta understood completely what she was implying. His face scrunched up in disgust.

"I'm here to see where my limits are. You may be willing to help us but don't overstep your boundaries" he growled out.

Vanica giggled but nodded. She straightened her posture.

"Then let's see what you can do."
