The two GUN agents slowly worked their way through the mazes of hallways and corridors. Ducking into empty rooms and broom closets to stay undetected by passing lab personnel and guards. The humans were unaware that two mobians were free and in search of an exit.
Finding an escape was proving to be a challenge. Only room after room, and hall after hall was being found by the crimson striped hedgehog and albino bat. They have been searching for nearly an hour, but were still trapped in the underground facility. Shadow knew they were racing against time for eventually the humans would learn of their escape.
Though Rouge was still green and had been sick a few times, her strength had improved somewhat as she was not needing to rely on Shadow as much but more on her own strength. But the male mobian still kept a firm hold on his friend knowing that at any moment the bat's legs could collapse.
'Where is the dang exit? I need to get Rouge back to GUN.'
Shadow was brought out of his thoughts as he could hear footsteps approaching. He hastily chaos snapped himself and the bat into a dark one toilet bathroom, further draining himself of his already low chaos energy.
Together, the partners looked through the slit in the slightly opened door to see an assistant pushing a gurney, this time with a conscious mobian, down the corridor and unknowingly by them. The gray wolf was angrily yelling and shouting, calling the stone-hard faced female human every name he could think of. The wolf's fierce and obviously fearful outburst was abruptly cut off as they entered a room, not far past where the two agents were hiding, and the door was closed.
"Shadow, we have to help him." Rouge whispered to her partner.
"Can't risk being found out about." Shadow whispered back, also wishing he could help the poor defenseless wolf. "The only way we can help him and all the mobians here is to escape and storm this place with GUN troops."
After making sure the coast was clear, the Ultimate Lifeform and spy left their hiding place and once again began their search for freedom. The quicker they escaped, the quicker all the mobians here would be rescued.
Shadow and Rouge had not been on the move long when they stopped dead in their tracks as something was broadcasted over the facility's speakers.
"Red Alert. Doctor Richard Wilson and Assistant James Robert Phillips are missing. All personnel stay where you are to be accounted for by security. I repeat. All personnel stay where you are to be accounted for by security."
"It won't take them long to find where I put them and how it happened." Shadow stated.
"Then I suggest we move faster, hon."
Moving faster was practically impossible, security guards were everywhere. Running down every hall and corridor, searching every room, making sure all personnel were accounted for, and looking for the two men that just seemed to vanish. Though security was searching everywhere, the two mobians managed to stay undetected with the help of chaos control.
"Shadow?" Rouge weakly moaned, adding more of he weight on the hedgehog's strong body.
Shadow only needed a quick glance at Rouge to know her stomach was once again rebelling. He hastily propelled her into a broom closet. Carefully lowered her to sit on the floor as he leaned her back against the wall, and pulled the door until it was only slightly ajar to allow some light to come in from the brightly lit corridor.
The Ultimate Lifeform quickly found a trash bag on the shelf full of cleaning supplies and shook it open, crouching down and holding it in front of the sick bat as she threw up for the fourth time in an hour.
Rouge retching was finally slowing down after five whole minutes when the speakers crackled with white noise, then came to life again.
"Medical team to Section Three-FK, room One-0-Five. Doctor Richard Wilson and Assistant James Robert Phillips have been found and are in need of medical care. I repeat. Medical team to Section Three-FK, room One-0-Five."
"Well, they found them." Rouge weakly said as she set back, resting her head against the wall wearily.
"I know." Shadow replied grimly. "They'll be after us next. Are you still sick?" He was still holding the trash bag out for her.
The spy lightly shook her head 'no' so Shadow tied up the bag, setting it off to the side.
Studying the bet before him, the midnight hedgehog could see little to no color in her face, her skin was as white as her snow white fur. And from the light coming through the ajar door, Shadow could see her body was covered in sweat. She was heavily patting with her eyes closed in exhaustion.
Rouge needed medical help, he knew that, but there seemed to be no way out of this place. Other than carrying her out here, there wasn't much the agent could do, seeing he had no medical knowledge. The albino bat had decided to take field first aid lessons when they first became agents for GUN. She tried to convince him to take them too, but he stubbornly refused, believing as the 'ultimate lifeform' he would never need it. But now, the hedgehog was regretting that decision.
As Shadow was contemplating his next course of action, the door to their hiding place opened. The Ultimate Lifeform quickly stood protectively in front of Rouge and snapped around to find a young woman standing speechlessly in the hall. Her shocked, wide deep brown eyes stared into equally surprised ruby red and aqua green. No one moved, just continued to stare for what seemed like an eternity. She didn't make a sound nor did she run which surprised Shadow. 'Why hasn't she screamed or ran away yet?'
"Come with me, quickly." The young curly redhead assistant with freckles said after she found her voice, hastily looking down the corridor in both directions.
"And why should we trust you, human?" Shadow asked with narrowed eyes. He recognized her voice as the one was with Phillips when he was strapped down to the gurney.
"Because if you don't and they find you, they will kill you both." The woman answered honestly.
"How do we know you won't lead us to them?" The hedgehog inquired slightly accusingly.
"If I wanted them to catch you all I would have to do is scream." She replied, but Shadow was still not convinced. "Look." She started as stepped into the closet, pulling the door until it was ajar, then bravely knelt down to be eye level with an obviously angry hedgehog mobian. "I want to help you and your friend. Please, let me." She plead with him.
Shadow looked deep into her dark brown eyes searching for even the slightest hint of dishonesty, but all he saw was pure truth and sincere concern for their well-beings.
""Fine." The hedgehog said. "We'll trust you for now." Then the dark mobian stood as tall as he could and swiftly closed the gap between them, leaving barely an inch between their noses. Pinning her down with him fierce glare and with a low threatening growl, added. "But if you turn on us or are lying in any way," A devious smirk appeared on his face. "I will not hesitate to remove you, permanently."
Shadow expected to see her shake in fear or inter worry to show in her eyes, but there was none.
"I will not turn on you nor am I lying to you in any way." The woman reassured then stood to her full height. "We must move quickly before someone else enters this closet. Your friend could also use a bed." She added as she looked over Shadow's shoulder. The hedgehog turned to look at the still sickly green bat sitting on the floor.
The red haired assistant took in a big intake of air only to cringe her face in absolute disgust. "What is that smell? Has your friend been vomiting?" The woman inquired, wrinkly her nose.
Finding no harm in answering her question, the mobian replied, "Yes." as he knelt in front of Rouge who had her eyes closed, only lightly panting now.
"How many times?" The concern and worry were clear in her soft feminine voice.
"This is the fourth time in an hour."
"Then first things first, we need to get to one of the examination rooms so we can get her some anti-nausea meds." The young assistant informed the hedgehog who silently agreed.
"Rouge?" Shadow softly called, but received no response from the ill mobian. The Ultimate Lifeform placed a gloved hand on her shoulder as he called again. "Rouge?" This time Rouge opened her tired eyes to look into bright ruby red ones. "We must continue. The hedgehog informed her, receiving a small nod from the albino spy.
Shadow wrapped his left arm around her beck then his other arm he placed under her knees, picking her up bridal style. Rouge didn't complain, simply leaned into his white chest fluff and fell asleep.
This worried him, Rouge should have protested, fought him to be put down on her own two feet and stubbornly walked the best she could. Not simply fall asleep without uttering a single word.
The young woman must have seen the concern on Shadow's face because she placed her fingers on the sleeping bat's neck, feeling for a pulse which she found to be strong. Looking down at the hedgehog with a warm comforting smile, said. "Don't worry, she is only asleep. But she does need medication to take away her nausea. This way."
Then she took the lead as she led the way through the facility. Following close behind her was the black and red stripped hedgehog with him arms full of a sleeping albino bat.
Though the young assistant leading them was a total stranger, Shadow decided to trust her. Not like he really had much of a choice though.
I hope everyone is enjoying my story thus far.
Please review. The more positive reviews I get the more motivated I am to continue writing.
What name do you think the young red haired, brown eyed assistant's name is? Put what you think it is, first and last name in the review, and you never know I just might use it.
It may be a while until my next chapter being that I haven't even started on it yet. But hopefully not to long.
Until next time. Ciao.
