A/N: Hi.. so it's casually been like 5 yrs since i updated this, but i promise i haven't forgotten about it. I don't really have a full storyline for the rest of this fic so only write when an idea or a mood strikes me. If anyone is still reading this THANK YOU! I have read the comments over the years and really appreciate all the kind words and the feedback! A few TW's for this chapter- fighting, school shooting (not during the day, no one is killed, not graphic). Just in case i've marked the sections with parenthesis so if you want you can skip.
also just to note I've never player soccer, I have no background in policing, this is all made up, and thoughts and feeling are meant for the purpose of the story. All mistakes mine, I don't own these characters!
Prue and Piper were sitting at the manor watching the news when they hear Phoebe come in. Phoebe smiled and walked to the duo and plopped down in the center.
Piper grunted and Prue yelped, while Phoebe laughed.
Prue smiled as Piper turned to tickle Phoebe. That laughter was something that Prue didn't know if she would ever get to hear again. There has been a lightness in the air since Phoebe came back to the manor.
Piper was happier that's for sure and for Prue not even the bad days at work could bring her mood down.
Piper and Phoebe finally calmed and their giggles slowed. Prue turned to Phoebe and asked how school was, "Ehh, it was ok. School was school. But I did try out for the soccer team. I know it's kinda late in the season but the coach asked if wanted to join. I think they finally found out I was ranked second in New York State when I lived there."
Prue and Piper both looked and Phoebe, "What?!"
Phoebe laughed, "Honestly it's not a big deal, I love sports, and I'm actually fairly coordinated when playing."
Prue immediately ran upstairs and grabbed her laptop, "Find your highlights reel, or a game you played in. I need to see this."
Phoebe laughed and found a montage of clips from games she played in while living in New York.
Prue and Piper were amazed as they watched Phoebe run and easily avoid the other defenders while she scored goal after goal.
Prue sneered a bit at some of the comments asking for sandwiches and for her to show more skin. Piper just smiled and Phoebe shrugged it off.
Piper smiled and rubbed Phoebe's arm, "This is amazing Pheebs!"
Phoebe smiled, "Thanks! I'm going to have to start working out again though. And training."
Piper nodded, "Well if you want a buddy I'm down."
Phoebe nodded, "Really?! That would be awesome! I'm gonna go grab a shower but maybe we can lay out a routine to start with for this weekend?" Piper nodded and watched as Phoebe jumped up and made her way upstairs
Prue then laughed, "Training? Working out? Piper you get winded running to the garbage can outside."
Piper pinched Prue on the side and rolled her eyes, "I'm trying something new. Maybe I'll like it. I mean I never did the sports thing in high school so maybe this will be good exposure."
Prue nodded, "Maybe you're right."
Piper was not right. What Phoebe forgot to mention to Piper was that she was bionic.
When they got up that Saturday morning Phoebe was smiling and Piper was confident.
Phoebe started stretching and warming up, jumping jacks, mountain climbers, push ups. Piper thought she was doing a good job keeping up, until the warm up turned into a jog, then the jog turned into a run, and the run turned into intermediate sprinting.
By the time Phoebe was ready to call it a day Piper was barely standing. Phoebe helped Piper slow her breathing and lead her back to the manor where Prue was sitting in the living room.
When the door slammed open and Phoebe came in half carrying Piper, Prue thought the worst. That is until Piper released herself from Phoebe's grasp and flopped onto the couch mumbling 'Never again' into the couch cushions.
Phoebe smiled and said, "I may have done a bit too much for her first day. She was saying that she keeps fit and that she would keep up with me. I didn't realize she was struggling until the end."
Prue nodded, "Piper's never been the athletic type."
Piper grunted as she turned her head to reply, "Well just because she's the freaking terminator doesn't mean I'm unfit. I walk and take the stairs when I can."
Phoebe laughed and Prue truly tried not to laugh but when she saw the seriousness in Piper's eyes she couldn't help it.
Piper smiled and rolled her eyes, "I hate the both of you."
Prue smiled and said, "How about you two go shower and I'll make us some salads for lunch."
Phoebe smiled and headed up stairs.
Prue smiled down at Piper and laughed, "You keep fit…?"
Piper huffed and said, "I was trying to keep up with her, but I can definitely see how she earned all those accolades. Her exercise routine almost killed me but she went through it with little more than a bit of heavy breathing and sweat."
By the time Piper pried herself off of the couch and got showered Pure had finished their salads and was waiting for Piper to join her and Phoebe.
Phoebe piled her salad with grilled chicken, corn, apples, avocado, cucumber, carrots and tomatoes— both Piper and Prue stared at the monstrosity of the salad. Without even looking up Phoebe started shoveling forkfuls into her mouth.
When Phoebe finally looked up and paused her chewing she noticed the double set of eyes on her.
Prue shook her head and laughed, "I have no idea where you put it all."
Phoebe chuckled and shrugged before digging back in.
The three sisters had a calm and quiet lunch.
Piper continued to workout with Phoebe on the weekends but set her own pace and drew the line at burpees.
Honestly Piper loved working out with Phoebe since those hours together were really the only time they got to spend together as of late.
Phoebe has been so busy with school and soccer after school that by the time Piper gets home from the club Phoebe is already asleep and in the mornings she and Prue are leaving out before she even wakes up.
Prue has been taking Phoebe to school and picking her up everyday since they still haven't been able to transfer Phoebe our of Long Ridge. Prue hated dropping her sister off there everyday but Phoebe seemed un-phased.
Piper had never been to Long Ridge but today Prue was picking her up and taking her to the school since Phoebe had a home soccer game and she was going to be starting.
When Piper got to the car Prue told her that when they got there they were to stay together and that no matter what she wasn't to go anywhere without her, even to the bathroom.
Piper nodded and just watched as the scenery around her changed.
When Pure pulled into the guest parking lot Piper looked around and asked Prue if they were in the right place.
"Yeah Piper, this is the home field. The school is that building across the street."
Piper looked at the building and noticed the security guards and the imposing brick building.
"Phoebe goes here? This place looks like a prison."
Prue nodded, "I know. This is why I'm still fighting with the school board. Even though Phoebe isn't in the district anymore they don't want her transferring. Phoebe says it's probably something to do with funding."
Piper was going to say something else but decided that it wasn't important.
Prue and Piper went to the bleachers and sat down next to another family. The group smiled at them and turned back to their conversation.
The other team was walking onto the field and the sidelines got quiet, Prue didn't like the feeling she was getting but figured it was just her nerves and her unease.
When the Long Ridge Panthers came out the crowd roared and cheered them on.
Both team warmed up quickly and got onto their respective sides. Prue and Piper were able to see Phoebe right away. Phoebe had her game face on but gave them a quick wave when she spotted them as she got into position.
The first 40 minutes of the game were good, both teams had scored and they were tied. Halftime was just ending and Prue and Piper watched as the team went back out. Piper leaned over to Prue, "No wonder her training is so intense. She's running for over a hour straight."
Piper and Prue watched as Phoebe was passed the ball and drove it up the field. Prue and Piper were cheering her on along with the other fans from Long Ridge. Phoebe kicked and scored giving the panthers the lead.
Phoebe scored two more times. Phoebe was about to score a third time when a defender from the back slid into Phoebe causing her to flip and fall to the ground. The fans all stood and yelled, the coaches yelled at the umpires, and the players on the field pushed the defender away while other team members helped Phoebe up.
Phoebe winced but nodded her head. Everyone thought the moment was over that tensions were just high but that it was handled.
That is until someone threw a punch which caused more shouting and more shoving and more punches. Before long all the players were in physical fights and the coaches and umpires were blowing whistles and forcefully separating the girls. Prue was ready to run down there and flash her badge but between the coaches, the umpires, and the schools security guards they had broken up the fight.
The umpires called the game a panthers win and told both teams to get to their sidelines and go home.
Prue and Piper watched as Phoebe wiped her face and spit. Phoebe made eye contact with Prue and waved her towards the parking lot.
Prue took Piper's hand and led her back to the car. Piper hurried behind Pure, "What the hell was that? We need to grab her now Prue!"
Prue nodded, "I know, she's going to be out in a minute."
***(TW BEGINNING)***
Before Piper could say more they spotted Phoebe. Phoebe was walking with another girl from her team and laughing. She gave her friend and hug and was about 50 steps from Prue's car when she stopped, turned her head, dropped her bag and went to the ground. Prue told Piper to get down as she pushed Piper down and covered her with her body.
Prue heard the shots ring out and could hear people screaming and running. A few more shots rang out before tires screeched off.
Prue sprang up, "Stay here Piper. Don't move!"
Prue flung the door open and ran over to Phoebe who was slowly getting up. Prue grabbed Phoebe and looked her over, "Are you ok!? Phoebe are you hit?!"
Phoebe shook her head, "I'm good Prue. I just scraped my knee hitting the deck."
Voices were heard from behind and Phoebe turned, "Oh shit."
Prue was trying to pull Phoebe towards the car to get them out of there but Phoebe shook her off and ran back towards the commotion. Prue ran after her only to see someone on the ground.
Phoebe dropped back down and put pressure on the wound, "Prue call a ambulance."
Prue used her phone to call the station and requested a bus. Prue found out the news was already called in and units were en route. As soon as she hung up she got a call from Andy.
"PRUE! Where the hell are you?! Is Phoebe at that soccer game?"
Prue spoke quickly, "We are still here. Andy it's a mess. We need a bus, we got a kid hit."
***(TW END)***
Andy paused, "Is Phoebe ok?"
Prue's voice cracked, "Yeah, she's ok."
Andy sighed in relief, "I'll be there in 8 minutes."
When the ambulance arrived Phoebe told the EMTs what happened and who the young girl was. "Her name's Sam."
The girl whimpered as she was loaded onto the gurney but squeezed Phoebe's hand, "Thanks Pheebs."
Phoebe rolled her eyes, "Of course nerd. I'll call your mom and brother."
Sam nodded and the EMTs quickly rolled her away.
Phoebe looked at Prue, "You ok?"
Prue was almost shocked at how calm Phoebe was, "I.. No. I'm not ok, how are you ok?"
Phoebe shrugged, "Once you've been in multiple drive bys they tend to lose their shock and awe."
Prue didn't know what to say so she just lead Phoebe back to the car and scooped up her bag from the ground.
Piper ran out of the car when she saw Phoebe and Prue, wrapping Phoebe in a tight hug, "Are you alright?!"
Phoebe nodded, "I'm ok. A little sore."
Prue saw Andy pull up and waved him over. Andy parked the car and ran over giving Prue a huge hug, "You alright?"
Prue nodded, "Yeah we are all good."
Phoebe waved at Andy and gave him a small smile. Andy wrapped Phoebe and Piper in a hug , "I'm glad you're all safe."
Phoebe patted Andy on the back awkwardly, not loving the contact but appreciated the sentiment.
Andy pulled back sheepishly smiling at Phoebe, "Sorry."
Phoebe nodded, "It's all good."
A uniformed officer came over and asked if they could take their statements now and Prue and Piper nodded while Phoebe remained silent.
Prue and Piper told the officer what happened, but when he looked to Phoebe she remained quiet. The officer tried asking a few more questions but he didn't get much of anything from Phoebe.
Prue thanked the officer and waited until he was out of earshot, "What the hell Phoebe? Why didn't you tell him the truth?!"
Phoebe looked at Prue with shock, "You really think him taking a statement from me is going to improve this situation? Help the cops over here find the shooter? Giving a statement lets the rest of the community feel like the cops are doing their jobs but all it does is collect dust and put a target on your back."
Prue went silent but moments later anger and hurt boiled in her, "You think being a cop is easy? We risk our lives everyday to make the streets safer. For the community, for you!"
Piper tried to calm Prue down, "Prue. Come on we know your job isn't easy. Lets just go home."
Phoebe licked her lip, "I never said your job was easy. I respect you and your job, but the reality is a statement from a minor that's been to juvie, isn't going to make the cops around here look for someone that did a drive by where there were no fatalities. This was either gang related or personal. The reality is the cops down here are drowning, they are under funded and under staffed. This isn't going to be the only shooting of the night. And when this all settles and the news crews leave we still have to come back here; and the best way to make it to the next is to pick your battles and not get involved in something that doesn't concern you."
Prue wanted to say something but Phoebe was right, as much as she didn't want her to be. The city was struggling. Phoebe waved to someone she knew behind Andy and sighed, "I'm gonna go to the hospital and meet up with Sam and her family… I'll see you at home."
Prue wanted to stop her, but felt she needed to cool off a bit. So she nodded, "Just be careful and please call us if you need us to get you."
Phoebe nodded and jogged off to get into the backseat of a car with other Panther's players.
Prue looked to Piper and Andy, "What the hell just happened?"
Hopefully i'll have a few more chapters before another 1/2 decade passes. Please leave comments good or bad let me know if there is anything someone wants to see happen and i'll try and incorporate! Thanks!
