Valerie's Sixth Birthday

The next morning a six o'clock, Valerie awoke and looked at the calendar tacked upon the bulletin board on her bedroom wall.

Today's the day, Valerie thought. today is my birthday! I am officially six-years-old today, I am the same age as Alexandra, Alexander, and Alan!

Valerie raced down the hallway in an excited manner after getting dressed for school.

Valerie raced into the kitchen to find her bowl of cream of wheat sitting on the table waiting for her and her parents sitting at the kitchen table.

William looked up from his newspaper while Valerie sat down at her bowl of cream of wheat.

Lyla was getting ready for work by packing her medical bag with her dental tools.

"Is my little birthday girl ready for school?" Lyla asked.

"I sure am, Mom, don't worry, I won't fall asleep this time." Valerie said.

"Is there anything you want special for your birthday?" Lyla asked Valerie.

"Oh, no, nothing special, I especially don't want there to be a fancy birthday party with all my friends and lots of goodies to eat, nope, just a simple, quiet day at home with my parents, no big birthday party with lots of presents, including that new fancy chemistry kit or that biology book I always wanted, no, sir, well, I gotta get going to school, see ya, Mom, bye, Dad." Valerie said, grabbing her lunchbox and catching the school bus.

The moment Valerie left for school, her parents looked at each other.

"Valerie was practically begging for a party, wasn't she?" William asked.

"You got it." Lyla answered.

Outside, Lyla and William got into their cars and prepared to drive to work.

"See you when you get home, Dear." Lyla said.

"Okay, Hon." William said.

"And don't forget the plan." Lyla said to William.

"I know, right after work, you call the parents and make sure all of Valerie's friends are invited while I buy the cake, ice cream, balloons, and presents from the both of us." William said to Lyla.

"Right, bye, William." Lyla said, driving off.

"Bye, Lyla." William said, driving off.

In Valerie's classroom, Valerie was getting ready for the beginning of the school day by putting her lunchbox into her cubby.

"Happy birthday, Valerie!" Melody exclaimed.

Valerie turned to face Melody.

"Thanks, Melody." Valerie said.

"Class, before we have snack time," Missis Miller said. "we will have rehearsal with Missis Andrews' class."

Melody raised her hand, "What scene will we be rehearsing today?" she asked Missis Miller.

"Missis Andrews wants us to rehearse the scene where Snow White meets the seven dwarfs for the first time." Missis Miller answered Melody.

"Let me guess," Josie said to Missis Miller. "that is Missis Andrews' favorite scene, correct?"

"Correct, Josie." Missis Miller said.
