Chapter 20: Concussion: Tiffany and Stuart
It was supposedly a friendly basketball game among law enforcement teams. But a heated argument between two players suddenly turned into a full-on brawl. And it was too late when poor Stuart got caught in a fistfight and fell to the ground.
It took all of OA's strength to stop Maggie from attacking the guy who hurt their teammate. Meanwhile, Tiff knelt down and with Jubal's help, got Stuart up on his feet. Isobel accompanied them after exchanging stern words with the other team's bosses.
"The doctor said he might have a mild concussion because of the fall," Tiff informed the team after the examination.
"I'm fine, Tiff, really. Just need someone to drive me home since my eyes hurt a little. Who knew hospital lights are so bright?"
Tiff looked to the team, her eyes conveyed her concern.
"Okay, someone needs to stay with him to make sure he doesn't get worse," Isobel said, nodding to Tiff.
Stuart protested, "No need for that, Isobel, I'm fine."
"Yeah, I don't think it's up for debate, buddy" Jubal said, tapping the agent's shoulder.
"Okay, home sweet home, Stuart." Tiff turned to see Stuart still sleeping on the passenger seat. "Wake up, sleepyhead. We're here."
After he woke up, they went to the door and heard noises inside. "You expecting visitors?" asked Tiff, almost drawing her weapon before remembering that she left it in the office.
"Relax, it's just my niece and nephew. They stayed with me during the weekend. Audrey's going to pick them up soon."
The door was suddenly opened by his sister-in-law, Doug's wife. "I knew I heard Stuart," she said smiling until she took a good look at her brother-in-law. "Oh my gosh, what happened?"
"Nothing serious," he replied as he entered his place. "By the way, this is my partner Tiff." The ladies shook hands.
After explaining everything, Audrey offered to watch over Stuart.
He shook his head. "No, it's fine. You should take care of the kids."
"It's alright, I'll watch him," Tiff assured her.
After dinner, Audrey and the kids left. As Tiff put away the dishes, she asked him, "You barely ate anything during dinner. Are you okay?"
"Yeah, just a little nauseous," he said.
"Here, take your meds," she handed him his medicine and a glass of water. After drinking, she helped him to his bedroom. As she tucked him in, he softly said "Thanks for doing this, Tiff."
She smiled at him, "It's what a good partner would do."
