Oh man.

Oh man, oh jeez, oh fu-

"Please don't break up with me."

It was the sweet, soft echo of her voice that finally snapped him out of it. Peter stared at her like she'd lost her mind. "What?" They spoke in little more than whispers, carefully hummed out from behind thick bushes in the Krakoan jungle.

Kitty looked away awkwardly. "I got you into this. Don't break up with me. It was an accident."

"Well, duh."

She glanced at him incredulously. "You're not mad?" she asked.

"Of course I'm mad. But not at you." Despite the gentility in his words, each one struck her like a dagger.

"I'm so sorry," she murmured.

He exhaled slowly under the mask, looking around at their surroundings. "Believe me, you'll be the one breaking up with me after I'm grounded for the next seven years."

The tone of frustration lacing his voice only made it worse. "I'm so sorry."

"Hey," Peter finally said as he gently tilted her chin to face him. "It's not on you. I thought you were in trouble, so I showed up. Simple as that."

All sense of immediate danger left his mind when she tugged him into a tight embrace, unwilling to let go. "You don't know this island like I do. It's a mutant hell. You shouldn't have come for me." She felt his grip around her waist tighten.

"I'd run through any jungle to get to you," he whispered into her hair, and if it weren't for the cameras littered around the island, she'd phase him out of his mask and kiss him then and there.

His Spider-Sense went off, and in one swift motion he grabbed her and swung them to safety, only barely avoiding a devastating explosion. Kitty clung to him tightly and closed her eyes. "You're so gonna break up with me…"
