A/N: This is one of those "missing moments" pieces. In this chapter, Parvati and Padma make plans to lead separate lives at Hogwarts.
Parvati Patil and Padma Patil were identical twins.
They had grown up together super tight as each other's besties.
But upon reflecting about their upcoming attendance of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Parvati decided that she wanted to go down a different path at Hogwarts.
Parvati loved her sister very much, but she felt it would be in both of their best interests to lead separate lives at Hogwarts.
So, on the evening before they were slated to board the Hogwarts Express from Platform Nine and Three Quarters at King's Cross Station, Parvati slowly approached her sister Padma's room.
Parvati knocked on the door and Padma's voice responded.
"Is it mom, dad, or sis?"
"Sis," replied Parvati, "May I please come into your room? We really need to talk."
"Yes," agreed Padma, opening the door and letting Parvati in.
Parvati and Padma sat down side by side on Padma's bed and Parvati said clearly: "Padma, this is not going to be easy for you to hear. You may get really pissed at me but right now I need to be honest and up front with you."
"What's on your mind, Parvati?" asked Padma calmly.
"This is going to be a bombshell for you. I know we've always been super tight sisters. Mom and dad know how much time we spend in each other's rooms. However, and I know hearing this will sting you worse than the meanest bee, but, I want us to be in different houses at Hogwarts."
"That would actually be quite healthy for both of us," agreed Padma, and Parvati let out an enormous sigh of relief.
"This is something I've been thinking about for a few weeks now and I made my final decision a few days ago," explained Parvati, "Only now could I bring myself to tell you. I'm grateful that you understand where I am coming from. I expected you to be pissed at me for wanting to abandon you."
"It's not abandoning," said Padma reassuringly, "I've actually being thinking about the exact same thing and came to same conclusion you did. We'll still be close sisters when we come home for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, and Easter as well as summer vacation. But you believe, and I agree with you, that it is time for our paths to diverge. We can still talk and catch up sometimes, but we need to forge our own identities independently of each other."
"Padma?" asked Parvati, "You come before me in alphabetical order. We have the same last name so your first name coming before mine in alphabetical order means you will be sorted before me. Mom and dad have told us that the Sorting Hat takes your choice into account. What house do you plan on going into?"
"Ravenclaw," replied Padma at once.
"I'll be Gryffindor then," piped up Parvati."
"To be honest with you," said Padma matter of factly, "I plan on largely being a loner at Hogwarts. I intend to focus on my studies rather than on interpersonal relationships."
"I absolutely want to have a BFF at Hogwarts," revealed Parvati, "Hopefully I can meet him or her on the Hogwarts Express or at the Welcoming Feast."
"It seems as if our perspectives on Hogwarts are already different from each other's," smiled Padma, "I'm eager to learn while you're more focused on making friends and creating a good social life for yourself."
"True," confirmed Parvati, "But that doesn't mean I won't take my studies seriously. I won't too much non required reading though."
"Hard to believe that fall semester starts tomorrow," grinned Padma, "We've nearly made it. We'll be okay."
"I know we will," smiled Parvati.
