Chapter 2

Lucy's eyes slowly opened. The soft sunlight from the small basement window warming her bare chest.

Her mind was slowly coming to life, and memories of last night coming back into focus. She attempted to move but realized there was a body wrapped up against her, and a face buried in the back of her neck. Carter.

He lay beside her, a thin blanket covering both their lower bodies.

What a night they had had, she thought. Breaking lots of speed limits in their various endeavors. Carter definitely had stamina, and she probably knew every inch of his body after last night .

And now that they had decided to keep their relationship going beyond this room, Lucy couldn't help but feel excited for all the future possibilities.

Beside her John stirred, moving closer to her warm back. She felt his morning erection against her legs, and a warm sensation began to move through her.

"Good morning" Carter said groggily, rising his head to kiss her cheek.

Lucy turned around to face him, "That it is. One of the best I've ever had" she smiled, kissing him gently.

The kiss started slow, gentle. But soon their hands began to roam and Lucy reached under the covers to grab his erection. Grasping him in her hand and stroking gently. Carter moaned loudly, and soon the kiss turned heated.

"Lucy your going to be the death of me." He moaned.

"Please don't die on me John. Think of all the future possibilities" she smiled.

"Weren't we supposed to start slow today? He said, reaching down to try and stop her hand.

Lucy stopped and brought it back from under the covers. "Your right. A picnic. We need to have a picnic" she said, remembering her attempt last night, trying to get up and out of bed

Carter laughed. "At seven in the morning Lucy? How about I just take you out for a hardy breakfast instead" he smiled, pulling her back down to lay beside him.

"John what if someone sees us"

"I know a great place outside of town. Nobody will see us. And if they do we will say I'm helping you study. We will bring books" he said as he began to kiss her softly.

"Great idea" she smiled.

"So how about a nice slow, hot, shower Miss Knight? I think we both need it after last night" he said, as he ran his hands up and down her arms

"Are you asking me to join you in the shower Dr. Carter?

"Oh yes. Alone would be too boring" he smiled.

One hour, a steamy shower, and lots of shower sex later, John and Lucy were finally dressed and ready to head out for breakfast. They piled in John's jeep and drove out of town towards a quaint diner. While driving the conversation flowed easily, and Lucy smiled when Carter grabbed her hand from across the seat.

"So John what's your favorite breakfast food?"

"Oh so now we're going to talk about the deep stuff hah?" Carter chuckled.

"Well this is how we get to know each other better." She laughed

"So knowing my favorite breakfast food will make you feel like you know the true me?

"Strangely yes. My psych rotation opened my eyes a lot. You'd be surprised what you can gather from the basic things"

"Ok so what does me loving Cereal tell you doctor Fraud?" he laughed.

"It tells me that you grew up with fancy sit down breakfasts and you secretly loved when you could just pour a bowl of cereal and sit in front of the TV like a normal kid. Cereal makes you feel like a normal person" Lucy said seriously, rubbing her fingers on top of his hand.

John's face had froze the minute she started talking. My God she was right on again.

"Am I right or way off?" Lucy asked.

"Lucy it's scary how well you read me." John whispered.

"Hopefully not scary enough to make you bolt"

John took his eyes off the road quickly to look at her. "No. Scary enough to make me feel something I've never felt before"

"Should I be scared?" she chuckled.

"I hope not. Ahhh were here" he said, changing the subject while pulling into the parking lot.

Lucy couldn't help but realize how different Carter was acting this morning. Opening doors for her and helping her into seats. She smiled as he ushered her into a window booth as they sat down for breakfast.

"So a big bowl of cereal for you this morning doc?

"Nah that's only an at home, day off, indulgence." Carter chuckled as he slid in the booth and reached for her hands across the table.

Lucy grasped his hands and they both smiled, Lucy feeling a bit nervous all of a sudden, why she didn't know.

"This is nice. I don't know why I feel nervous all of a sudden" she admitted.

"Me too" Carter smiled

They both sat and stared at one another with a smile as they held hands across the table. Lucy knew though that they still had a lot to work out with this new relationship and decided to ask her questions now.

"So how is this all going to work John?"

"Well I'm not real sure at the moment, but I know I want it to work. Does that count?"

"Yeah me too" Lucy smiled. "At work isn't the problem though, It's outside of work. You live with Weaver and I live in the dorms. When could we ever see each other?"

"Yeah I've thought of that too. Maybe it's time for me to find another place to live. And you don't think work will be a problem? Lucy I just smell you and I want to ravage you. It may be harder for me then you think" he chuckled

"Really? Ahhhh. Well it will be hard for me too since I know what's underneath your doctors coat now" Lucy winked.

"We have to be really careful Luce. Our acting skills really need to kick in"

"Only for four more months. Then I graduate and all is good" she smiled, as their hands still entwined across the table.

The waitress appeared asking for drink orders, and they told her they needed more time with the menu. As Carter studied the menu his face turned serious, "Luce can I ask you a sorta personal question?"

"Yeah of course" she said worriedly, setting down her menu.

"Being that last night wasn't planned, and we both kind of got lost in the moment, we never brought up the subject of protection. Are you using any kind of birth control? " he asked seriously.

"Don't worry John. I'm on the pill." She reassured him.

Carter looked relieved, yet curious, " Well that's good to hear. Was there someone else recently for you to still be on the pill? I mean you know about Roxanne, but we were safe. Please don't tell me it was Dale." he grimaced.

Lucy winced at the mention of Roxanne. She had been jealous while they were dating. She had also heard from the gossip crew at work that Carter had had many woman, and was quite the ladies man. I mean with a face like his how could he not. Her on the other hand had had only a few partners. And they were not much to write home about.

"Dale! Oh God no. He tried though believe me. I've only had two past boyfriends John. One in high school, and one in college. Nothing recently though. I just take birth control in case. You never know what will happen while in college"

" So are you saying I'm only the third guy you've slept with Luce?" Carter asked, surprise in his voice.

"You act like that's a bad thing?" she said a bit annoyed.

"No, no I'm just shocked. Your beautiful and smart. Also your pretty damn good in bed for only having two other partners" he whispered.

Lucy blushed. " And what I heard about you is true too" she smiled.

"What did you hear? People are talking about my sex life at work?"

"Yeah I heard you were a chick magnet, and that you've slept with some older doctor. I admit I was a bit jealous"

Carter grabbed for her hands again across the table again, his face and voice becoming concerned.

"Lucy I'm sorry you had to hear that from the gossip crew. I will tell you anything you want to know about my past, just ask. Yeah I've slept with more people then you it's true. But that doesn't discount what me and you did, or do in the future. Ok?"

"Yeah. I know John. Past is the past. All I care is about the future, and when we can see each other again outside of work"

"Well first thing first on the way home were grabbing a paper and finding me another place to live"

"Yes sounds good"

They both smiled at one another, as Carter let go of her hands and grabbed his menu again.

"OK so now that that all is taken care of what are we having for breakfast?" John chuckled, looking back at the menu. "Hey you never told me what your favorite breakfast food was"

She smiled, as she studied her menu. "Guess"

"Lucy I'm no good at Psychology. I hated my Psych rotation"

"Well what little you know about me take your best guess"

Lucy was sure he would never guess, but it was fun to play with him. She was curious though what he would say.

"Well ok. You grew up with a single mom who made you very self sufficient, but probably spoiled you in her own way too. I would think she made you special things time to time for breakfast. Ummmm maybe Pancakes?" John guessed, his eyes searching hers for any sign of being correct.

Lucy was shocked. He had paid attention to her when they had talked in the past. He was somewhat right, and she tingled at the thought.

"Your very close John. I'm impressed. You were paying attention while I talked up on that roof" she smiled.

"Of course I paid attention. I had the hot's for you" he winked.

"Chocolate Chip pancakes. My mom would make them for me when I was sick, or on my birthday. I love them. They remind me of good things" she smiled. "You know there's still plenty of time to change your specialty. Psych just may be your calling John" she joked.

"Um no. I will leave the crazies to you" he laughed.

Breakfast went well and they laughed a lot. Upon getting back in the Jeep they both sensed that this thing with them may just work. That maybe it wasn't just physical attraction, but something more. Carter definitely was aware of the difference. It was nice not to be mean to her, or hold back his feelings. Looking back he had acted like a grade school boy, being cruel to the one he had a crush on. It wasn't fair to her, and he hoped that she would forgive him. He needed to make sure.

"Hey Luce. I want to apologize to you" he said, as they sat in the car ready to leave.

"What for John?"

"For the way I treated you these passed weeks. I guess I thought that if I treated you bad, or ignored you, my attraction for you would go away. I was wrong. And I hurt you in the meantime. I'm really sorry"

Lucy reached for his hand across the seat, "It's ok. I'm sorry for saying that I hated you yesterday. I don't of course. I was also trying to hide my feelings for you. I guess we both were stupid"

"Guess so" he smiled at her, kissing the top of her hand gently. "Ok my lady where to next?"

"Well maybe you can take me back to my dorm to change and get some clothes. Is it safe for me to presume you would like me to spend the night with you again? I mean we should take advantage of the time Weavers gone right?"

"Heck yeah. I still want that picnic in bed" he smiled, pulling out of the diner and heading towards Lucy's dorm.
