Disclaimer: I don't own Marvel or it's characters if I did then Peter Parker and Kitty Pryde would be together in every universe.
Chapter five is done with, this chapter certainly came a lot quicker than I thought it would, but here it is. I am nearly done with chapter 4 of my ShadowSpider Evolution series, I just have a little bit more to write then I'll be all set to post. Sorry it is taking so long with that, I'm just trying to make it interesting.
Chapter 5: Logan Fixes The Problem
New York City, Avengers Mansion, Friday, March 27, 12:00 pm
Logan was walking down the hallway of Avengers Mansion. What is Logan doing at Avengers Mansion when there are no missions for him to go on? Well, that's simple, he has a plan, and he needs help, and the only person who he knows will help him currently resides here. Logan stops in front of a door and knocks three times. "Coming," the person behind the door said, the door then opened to reveal Janet Van Dyne, "Honestly Tony, I'm not gonna forget the party. I have a dress picked out…," Janet stopped talking as she saw the person at her door wasn't Tony Stark, but Logan who was looking at her with a raised eyebrow. "Logan, what up?"
"I knew there were rumors, but I didn't think they were true," Logan commented
Janet blushed immediately at the insinuation, "WHAT? No, it, it's not like that between Tony and me. I'm just going to a party with him tonight," Jan exclaimed, she then realized what she said, "But it's not a party, party, like a club party, but a business party, for Stark Industries. He invited me, but not as a date only as a friend, not a date. Tony and I, we are not dating, we are just friends," Janet hurriedly explained
"Right," Logan said, like he'll believe that, everyone in the mansion could see sparks between the two.
"Anyway, what's up Logan," Janet asked curiously, wondering why Logan would come visit her.
"I need to talk to you about something. Can we go somewhere, where we can't be overheard," Logan asked
"Sure, it's lunch time anyway, you can buy me something to eat," Janet said as she exited her room, closing the door, "Let's go," Janet then started walking away followed by Logan. They made their way to the foyer where they ran into Tony.
"Hey Logan, hey Jan. You ready for tonight," Tony asked
"Already have the dress," Janet responded excitedly as she and Logan passed Tony, "See you tonight." They then exited the mansion.
Diner
Logan and Janet are sitting in a booth with their orders laid out in front of them, Logan has a two cheeseburgers and coke, while Jan has some chicken tenders, French fries, and a coke. "Well, what do you think," Logan asked as he finished explaining everything to Janet.
"Let me just recap on this. So, one of your X-Men teammates Shadowcat," Janet said
"Kitty," Logan corrected
"Right, Kitty, so Kitty, she broke up with her boyfriend Iceman," Janet said
"Bobby," Logan corrected again.
"Kitty broke up with Bobby, ever since then the guy has been hounding her on taking him back, frustrating her," Janet said getting a nod from Logan, "Been there," Jan commented then continued, "Kitty herself is frustrated not just because of Bobby but because she can't find the right guy for her, because every guy she has been with are either too old, immature, or an asshole."
"Yep," Logan said
"And you want to set her up with Peter," Janet said getting a nod from Logan, "Our Peter?"
"You know any more Peters," Logan asked sarcastically
"You want to set them up on a date," Janet asked
"Pretty much," Logan said
"Why," Jan asked curiously
"I'm tired of saving Parker's ass all the time," Logan answered getting a raised eyebrow from Janet, that wasn't working for her. Logan sighed, "Parker is depressed and is still hung-up on the Black Cat, and he needs to move on. Kitty is frustrated by how terrible her love life is. Both of them are about ready to give up love, and I don't want to see that, not with those two," Logan said
"I knew you and Peter were best friends," Janet said
"Parker is not my best friend," Logan responded
"You and Peter literally hung out all the time before your…sabbatical," Janet said
"The kid followed me everywhere talking my ear off, I swear he lived to annoy me," Logan said
"You're his sidekick he has to keep an eye on you," Janet said grinning, she remembers when Peter introduced himself and Logan, that was hilarious how Peter referred to Logan as his sidekick and how Logan threatened him, 'Speaking of,' Janet thought
"I'll kill him, I'll gut him, then I'll kill him," Logan threatened, he's never gonna live that sidekick comment down, and it's Parker's fault.
"Isn't that against the point of why you brought me here," Janet asked getting a sigh from Logan who decided to move on.
"Listen, I've known Kitty since she was thirteen, and I've known Parker for two years, and ever since I met the kid, I knew one thing," Logan said
"And that is," Jan asked
"That he and Kitty are meant for each other. I swear, I can't think of two people who would fit together as well as those two would," Logan said
"You really think so," Jan asked
"Believe me Jan when I say soulmates just may describe what these two are," Logan said
"Wow never thought I'd ever hear you say the word soulmates. You really think these two will get along," Jan said as she drank her coke.
"Believe me when I say, they'll be crazy for each other in no time," Logan said
"And you want my help in setting up the date," Jan asked
"Pretty much, I'm not one for romance, so I wouldn't even know where to begin," Logan said
"A first date between two people who don't know each other isn't about romance, it's about making an impression on the person, it's to see whether or not there could be something in the first place," Janet explained
"Right, so will you help," Logan asked
"Hm, I guess the best way for Peter to move on would be to get him out there," Janet commented, maybe it's for the best, Peter meeting another girl to help him move on, it's worked before. Janet knows all about what happened between him and that Gwen Stacy girl, she broke his heart, but Mary Jan fixed it and he moved on, then Mary Jane broke up with him, sure the girl didn't want too but she still broke Peter's heart all the same but Peter was able to move on with Felicia, but in the end Felicia broke Peter's heart too. Maybe this isn't such a good idea after all, before she does anything she needs more info, Jan then looked at Logan, "This Kitty girl, she's a good girl, right?" Janet had to ask; she isn't about to set Peter up with someone who will just break his heart like Felicia did. Janet still can't believe that happened.
"No one knows this girl better than me. Trust me, she's a good person," Logan said
Janet sighed, "Carol's not gonna like this," she said, that's the truth, ever since the breakup Carol has been going on about how Peter should take this chance on focusing on other things, like his studying, he's in college and needs good grades to graduate, and Janet and Carol, want to make sure he does. That nothing will get in his way, not even Spider-Man or the Avengers, she can't tell you how many times she and Carol has had to sit Peter down to get him to do his homework and not go out as Spider-Man. It certainly embarrassed Peter, but Jan and Carol only want what's best for him. He's pretty much their little brother, they care about him, and love him, and they want to make sure that he has a future. If they're not careful, Peter just may fail or even leave college because he'll think that his duties as Spider-Man is more important. He'd damn himself for the safety of the innocent, and despite how noble that is Jan and Carol aren't gonna let that happen. So yeah, Carol won't be happy, "Ok, I'll do it." She'll deal with Carol later…after the date.
Logan smirked, "Perfect," he said
"I already have a few ideas in mind for a good first date," Janet said, she then starts to get excited, "Oh this is gonna be so much fun. All we need now is for them to agree."
"You just focus on the date, leave the participants to me," Logan said
Empire State University
Peter entered the library and walked around looking at all the tables, some were empty, others were filled with people. Peter was here for one reason, tutoring. He was tutoring someone for a class, funny thing is that he has tutored this person before, except this time instead of a teacher setting it up, she asked him instead. Taking another scan Peter finally catches the sight of someone waving their hand, that someone was, a black haired, Hispanic woman with brown eyes, she was wearing a light pink t-shirt, over it was a red jacket, blue skinny jeans, and white shoes, "Petey," the woman whisper-yelled, seeing who he was looking for Peter smiled and waved back. He then made his way over to the table. "Hey Petey," the woman greeted with a hug as Peter approached.
"Hey Liz, sorry I'm late, got held up," Peter said as they broke apart and sat down.
"Don't worry about it, certainly helps that I finally know what holds you up now," Liz said giving Peter a knowing look making Peter chuckle. Yeah, Liz knows that he's Spider-Man, has known for a few months now. Funny story on how that happened. "So, what was it this time? A mugger, bank robbery?"
"Cat stuck in a tree," Peter said getting a 'really' look from Liz. "It was a grouchy cat, scratched anyone who wasn't its owner. These sleeves," Peter said tugging at his jacket sleeve, "They're covering up scratches. That cat wrecked a perfectly good suit."
Liz chuckled at Peter's dismay, "Oh poor Petey, would you like it if I repaired it, think of it as payment for my tutoring," Liz said
Peter chuckled, "I think the only way that payment would even be remotely fair is if I tutored you all through college," he said
"Well, you have been tutoring me since high school. I swear you are the reason why I was able to ace science class, and now we continue the cycle in college," Liz said
"That we do, so shall we get started," Peter said
"Let's, and after I can look at your suit," Liz offered
"I swear you will regret that offer," Peter said as Liz opened a book to show Peter so he could help her.
"So, this is what I don't understand," Liz said, for the next few hours Peter helped Liz with her science class. He was able to explain everything, and Liz paid attention to everything he said, she asked questions which he answered to the best of his ability. He didn't straight out give the answers only helped Liz come up with the answers herself and told her if they were right or not. In the end, when it was 3:00 Peter and Liz decided to wrap it up and decided to get something to eat. They packed up their things and left the library.
"So, where too, the school café," Peter asked
"Not this time, let's get some good food for once. How about Mexican," Liz asked
"Fine by me," Peter said, suddenly there is a familiar noise getting the two's attention. Recognizing the noise Peter directs him and Liz to an alleyway, finally having a semblance of privacy Peter takes out his Avengers ID card and activates it.
"That is still cool," Liz commented as she saw the card, she's seen it a few times, but it still amazes her when she sees it.
Peter smirked at Liz, he then looked at it, on the ID card the image of Logan shows up, "Logan," Peter said in surprise.
"Hey Webs," Logan greeted
"What's up," Peter asked
"Avengers mission, need you asap," Logan said
Peter looked at Liz and gave her an apologetic look, she just smiled in response. She understands that he must go, the Avengers need him, it really helps that she finally knows where he goes when he disappears now, not to mention he doesn't give her any of those annoyingly lame excuses. Nodding his head Peter looked at Logan, "I'll be right there," Peter said
"See you then," Logan said, with that the communication ended.
Once the communication ended Peter looked at Liz, "Sorry about this Liz," Peter apologized
"Don't worry about it Petey, you're an Avenger and you have responsibilities," Liz said
"Yeah, but still," Peter said, he can't help but feel bad, sometimes it feels like that Spider-Man just rules his life, it sucks being a hero sometimes, but like his Uncle Ben always said With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility.
"Hey, you just come back safely, and we can call it even, ok," Liz said
"Ok," Peter said
Liz then gives Peter a hug who returns it, "You be safe Peter and go kick some butt," Liz said as they broke apart.
"Right, I'll see you later," Peter said
"Later," Liz said with that Peter jumps up on the wall and keeps on jumping up while doing a few tricks until he is on the roof and disappears. As she watched this Liz, put a hand on her hip, "My best friend is Spider-Man," she then chuckles, "What has my life become?" Liz then exited the alleyway and headed to the Mexican restaurant herself, hey just because Peter isn't joining her doesn't mean she's gonna pass up on a good taco.
In the air Spider-Man whose sleeves are all shredded up, healing scratch marks still showing on his arms is swinging around the city heading to Avengers Mansion, "I wonder what the mission is this time? Maybe we found the main Hydra base, that certainly would be nice. That would be one headache gone," Spider-Man said, it didn't take long for Spider-Man to arrive at the mansion, when he got there, he saw Wolverine waiting in front of the gate. As he landed Spider-Man greeted his friend, "Well if it isn't my sidekick, how are you doing buddy," Spider-Man said
Wolverine looked at Spider-Man, and then looked at his arms, "I don't know who did that to you, but I really wish that was me," Wolverine said
"You really do say the nicest things to me," Spider-Man responded
Wolverine growled, he then went up to the gate and put his ID card in front of the scanner, the ID card was then scanned, "Recognized Wolverine," Jarvis said, Spider-Man then put his card in front of the scanner and it was scanned, "Recognized Spider-Man, welcome to the mansion. Would you like anything?"
"No thanks Jarvis," Wolverine said, Spider-Man was about to say something, but Wolverine interrupted him, "Webs is good too." Spider-Man deflated; he wanted a soda. Wolverine rolled his eyes at the wall-crawler. They made their way inside the mansion.
"So, what is this mission that we're going on," Spider-Man asked
"Just follow me Webs and I'll explain everything," Wolverine said, he then led Spider-Man to a secluded room in the mansion.
"Um Logan what's going on? Why are we here? Shouldn't we be in the hanger or the meeting room," Spider-Man asked
Wolverine took off his mask and then leaned against the wall, "Take off the mask and I'll explain," Logan said, doing as he said Spider-Man took off his mask and looked at Logan questioningly. "Alright, so here's the thing," it took Logan ten minutes to explain everything to Peter who by that time was looking at Logan with his mouth agape.
"I'm sorry, you, you're doing what now," Peter asked still in shock.
"I'm setting you up on a date," Logan said
"No, nonononono, bad idea, really bad idea. I think I had my heart broken enough times thank you," Peter declined
"Trust me kid this will be different," Logan said
"How can you be so sure? Actually, another question, why are you setting me up on a date in the first place," Peter asked
"A few reasons, one I'm tired of saving your ass, this keeps on going you are gonna wind up dead. Two when you are depressed you really know how to bring down a room, three you need to move of from that Black Cat bitch, there is someone out there better than her. And four, you do deserve some happiness in your life kid, and I'm sure this girl who I'm gonna set you up with will make you happy," Logan said
"I still think that this is a bad idea," Peter said
"Listen kid, do you remember when I told you yesterday that you should wait for love to find you? Well, this is it, this is it finding you. Are you really just gonna pass up the chance to see if it will work," Logan said
"How do you even know it will work out in the first place," Peter asked curiously
"I've known the both of you for years, trust me it will work, so what do you say kid, will you give it a try," Logan asked
Peter thought about it for a moment, he's not sure if this is a good idea, he's had his heart broken so many times already. He's honestly not sure he could deal with another one. Falling in love, thinking that everything is gonna work out only for the girl to burn him in the end, that is hard to recover from, and it's happened so many times already. But then again, both Logan and Aunt May did say to wait for love to come to him. Is this it though? Has love actually found him so soon? He's not so sure of that, but if Logan of all people is setting him up, he really must be worrying everybody. Not to mention if Logan is setting him up, well… to be honest he's not so sure about that, Logan would never set him up with anyone unless he's sure that they will get along. But can he really trust Logan's judgement when it comes to this stuff? That is the question. Maybe though, Peter then gave a thoughtful look then he gave a playful smile. Logan noticed the smile, and he can't help but wonder what Parker is up to.
"Ok, I'll do it, but you have to do something for me," Peter said
"Yeah, and what's that," Logan asked
Peter's smile widened, "You have to go up to an Avenger and tell them that I am your best friend," he said
Logan's eyebrow twitched, "Isn't you possibly getting a girlfriend enough," he demanded
"Nope, I want you to introduce me as your best friend only way I will do it. It's either that or my sidekick," Peter said
Immediately Logan imagined himself gutting Peter, and he feels no shame over it, not one bit. "Kid, I will chop off your head before I tell anyone that," Logan said
"So, it's the first one then," Peter said not at all feeling deterred by the threat. "I mean how much do you want me on this date, that is the question."
Logan growled, he is half tempted at storming out now, but this isn't just about Peter. An image of Kitty appears, no matter how much she's angry with him, Logan still cares about Kitty, and he wants to see her happy, and Peter is the only person who he knows can do that, dammit. Logan sighed, "Fine," he growled out.
"Really," Peter asked in surprise, he'll admit, he didn't see that coming, he actually thought Logan would storm off while throwing profanities his way.
"Yes, I'll do it, let's go," Logan said
"Where are we going," Peter asked
"To get this over with," Logan said as he started walking being followed by Peter. They walked around the mansion for a while until they found someone. Sadly, that someone was Hawkeye, 'Oh Fuck.'
"Hey Hawkeye," Peter greeted
"Hey Parker, Logan, what's up," a maskless Clint asked
"Logan has something to tell you," Peter said smirking playfully making Logan growl.
"Oh, and what's that," Clint said
"Parker," Logan paused then continued, "Parker is my best friend," he said through gritted teeth.
"Why thank you Logan old buddy," Peter said
Clint looked back and forth at the two four times, until he laughed like a madman much to Logan's annoyance, now he is imagining himself gutting Clint, and he really likes that thought. Clint rested his gaze on Peter, "Ok kid…you got to tell me…how the hell…did you get him to say that…," Clint said between laughs.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you," Peter said
"Try me," Clint said
"How about not," Logan said as he picked Peter up and dragged him away.
"You are telling me later," Clint yelled
When they were out of sight from Clint, Logan picked Peter up, put his fist under his chin and activated his claws except for the middle one, boxing Peter's head it, "You tell I gut you, got it," Logan threatened
"Ok, ok, I won't tell, no need to go all Wildman on me," Peter said
Logan retracted his claws and then dropped Peter, "So the date is tomorrow, you'll get a call on the details later. Got it" Logan said
Well shit, "Got it," Peter said
"Good," Logan said, he then turned around and started to walk away.
"Wait a minute, can you at least tell me her name," Peter said
"Kitty Pryde," Logan said
"Oh, Kitty Pryde, heh," Peter said, he then took out his phone and called Liz, "Hey Liz," Peter greeted
"Hey Petey, what's up? Mission done already," Liz asked
"Yeah, here's the thing. It was a false alarm, but I need your help with something," Peter said
Xavier Institute
Kitty is marching down the hallway with an angry expression on her face, why was she angry, well…
"Come on Kitty, please let's talk," Bobby asked from behind her.
That answer your question. "Leave me alone Bobby," Kitty said
"Not until we talk," Bobby said
"I have nothing to say to you, now leave me alone," Kitty said
Bobby quickly rushed ahead of Kitty and stopped in front of her stopping her, "Kitty listen, I can do better, I swear I can. If you take me back, I know we will have a good time together," he said
"You just don't get it, relationships are more than having a good time Bobby, so much more," Kitty said shaking her head
"Why does it matter if we're serious or not, isn't the important thing that we have fun together," Bobby said
"NO THAT IS NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS CONNECTION AND EMOTION, AND WE HAVE NEITHER BOBBY. Now get out of my way," Kitty said
"Not until we talk," Bobby said, he then notices Kitty's eyes widen a little then she smirked. Why is she smirking? A SHINK noise is then heard and passed Bobby's head on both sides are two metal claws. Bobby's blood runs cold and it isn't because of his ice powers. He recognizes those claws.
"Beat it Drake, before my third claw comes out," Logan said, as to prove his point he extends his third claw enough to what Bobby can feel the point of it.
"I, I th-think that I'm, I'm gonna go now. nice, nice t-talking to you Kitty," Bobby said, he then rushed past Kitty and away from Logan as fast as he could.
Both Logan and Kitty watched as Bobby, hurried away from them, finally when Bobby was gone Kitty sighed in relief, "Thanks," she said as she looked at Logan.
"No problem, feels good to go back to old habits," Logan said
"What, you saying that you enjoyed chasing guys away from me," Kitty said
"Only did that because they didn't deserve ya darlin, neither does Bobby for that matter," Logan said making Kitty smile a little.
"And exactly who does deserve me," Kitty asked
"Funny you should ask because that is actually why I'm here. to talk to you about that," Logan said
"What," Kitty asked as she looked at Logan questioningly.
"Follow me kid, and I'll explain," Logan said as he started to walk off.
Kitt stayed in her spot for a moment contemplating. Should she follow? She isn't sure, she did have a bad feeling yesterday, not to mention she has been trying to avoid Logan since the X-Men reformed, and she already spent enough time with him yesterday in those sparing matches. Then again, she is curious on what he has planned. If she doesn't go then her curiosity will drive her crazy, in the end she most likely will be finding out. Sighing Kitty follows Logan to an empty room.
As they enter Logan leans against the wall while Kitty stands in front of him, "Ok, we're here. now, what did you mean," Kitty said
"I'm just gonna say it kid, I'm setting you up on a date," Logan said
There was a moment of silence as Kitty looked at Logan, then, "WHAT," Kitty said in shock
"I'm setting you up on a date," Logan said shrugging
"Why," Kitty asked
"You were complaining about how you always fail at love, so I thought that I'd give you a hand. So, what do you say," Logan said
"NO, no, of course not," Kitty declined, "I just broke up with Bobby and I'm still dealing with the aftermath of that, and now you expect me to just go on a date with some guy who you just met off the street."
"No, I don't, the guy I'm setting you up with, I've known him for a couple of years now, he's a good guy," Logan said
"I don't care the answer is no," Kitty said
"Do you remember when you asked me if I was keeping your dream guy in my back pocket," Logan asked getting a nod from Kitty, "Well guess what kid, for the past two years I have had your dream guy in my back pocket. The only thing that kept me from ever setting you two up was the fact that at the time you were either interested in someone else or he was dating someone. Frankly if neither of you had anyone, I would have done this years ago," Logan said
"Listen Logan, I appreciate the thought, really, but even if I was interested in dating, I wouldn't be interested in any of your friends. No offense but I'm not interested in gruffy guys," Kitty said
"I guess it's a good thing that he isn't a gruffy guy," Logan countered
"Really," Kitty asked
"Really," Logan said
"Alright, what's his name, what does he look like, and how do you know him," Kitty said
"His name is Peter Parker, he's," Logan said but was interrupted
"Wait! The Peter Parker, as in the guy who takes pictures of Spider-Man," Kitty asked
"Yeah, that's him," Logan answered
"How do you know him," Kitty asked
"Kid took pictures of Spider-Man, pretty much wherever Spider-Man went Parker isn't too far behind. Considering Webs is and Avenger Parker had taken pictures of many Avenger fights. Webs introduced him to us. Now whenever the Avengers needs some photos Parker is the first choice we go with," Logan answered
"So, you want to set me up on a date with Peter Parker," Kitty asked
"Yup, what do you think," Logan said
Kitty sighed, "I don't know," Kitty said uncertainly, would going on a date really be a good idea? She supposes she could use the opportunity to try and meet Spider-Man, but she isn't like that. She would never take advantage of someone just to get what she wants. How bitchy is that.
"You asked what he looked like," Logan said, getting out a picture of Peter and showed it to Kitty.
Kitty looks at the picture with interest. Wow, talk about handsome, that's for sure.
"He's a good kid, has a good head on his shoulders, responsible, has a bright future ahead of him," Logan said, he could see that Kitty is thinking about it now, he just has to push a little more.
"I, I still don't know," Kitty said, she's tempted, that's for sure, but still. Is it a good idea?
"How about a bet," Logan offered
"A bet," Kitty repeated getting a nod from Logan.
"You go on the date, if you don't like it well you name it," Logan said
"You're serious," Kitty asked
"I am. What do you say? Care to make a bet," Logan said
"Let me get this straight, if I go on this date and don't like it then you will do whatever my terms are," Kitty said getting a nod from Logan. Kitty suddenly gained a mischievous smile, "No matter how absurd, unreasonable, humiliating, demeaning, or degrading?"
'These two definitely belong together,' Logan thought, he dreaded at what Kitty has in her mind for him, knowing her it would probably have something to do with ruining his tough guy reputation. Only she would be so brave. Sighing, Logan nodded.
"What if I like the date, what do you get," Kitty asked
"Two weeks of one-on-one training with me. You've gotten soft kid," Logan said
Kitty scowled at the soft comment, she does have to admit though, yesterday's sparing session with Logan did show her just out of shape she is now. "Alright fine, but if I win then I want you to walk in public cross dressed in a black dress with high heels, makeup, everything," she said
Logan groaned, what is up with these two and wanting to embarrass him, "Fine. So, we got a deal," he asked
"Hm, deal," Kitty said
"Good, the date is tomorrow, I'll give you the rest of the details later tonight," Logan said
Kitty grinned, "I can't wait to see you in a dress," she said, her face then became thoughtful, "You said, that the reason you chased all the guy away is because they didn't deserve me. Does that mean this guy does?"
Logan smiled, "Pum'kin no one deserves you, but if I had to choose one guy who comes close then it would be Parker," Logan said making Kitty smile again, Logan then turned around, "Remember, the date is tomorrow, I'll tell you the rest later today." With that Logan walked off, ready to get everything in place.
