Chapter 6: The Date
New York City, Peter's apartment, Saturday, March 28
Inside Peter's room are Peter and Liz who currently has one of Peter's drawers in her hands. "Ok Petey, let's see what we have to work with," Liz said as she dumped all of Peter's clothes on his bed, she then got the other drawers and dumped them.
"Hey," Peter exclaimed
"Oh, be quiet, we'll put them back. Now be quiet and let me think," Liz said as she looked at her friend's clothes.
"I don't see why I can't wear what I have on now," Peter said indicating toward his classic black t-shirt, green jacket, and blue jeans.
"You can't go on a first date wearing that," Liz said
"What's wrong with this. You and MJ are the ones who picked it," Peter said
"Good thing we did, or you'd still be wearing that double shirt, trouser combo," Liz said
"I liked that outfit," Peter responded
"You wore it since freshman year of high school, you needed a change, and MJ and I were happy to be part of it. Not to mention your hair," Liz said
"What was wrong with my hair," Peter asked
"It was out of style," Liz answered as she picked up a shirt and laid it down on the bed, "You may not be dressing up Peter, but this is still a first date, at least wear a bit more than casual clothes." As she sorted out through the clothes Liz saw something that made her frown, she then looked toward Peter, "What are you doing with a sweater vest," she demanded as she showed Peter the sweater vest that she was holding.
"I don't know, I was thinking of going back to it, thought maybe I could pull it off," Peter said
"Petey, you wear this, then the college kids will start bullying you, and Flash is enough," Liz said
"I've seen tons of people wear sweater vests," Peter retorted
"Yeah, but those sweater vests are tasteful, yours however are an abomination," Liz said, she then throws the sweater vest to Peter who catches it, "Throw that out, if you want to wear a sweater vest then buy some good ones," Liz said, she then looked at the pile of clothes, "So tell me where this date is again."
"According to Logan, we're going mini-golfing, and then we're getting a pizza, at least that's the plan he set up," Peter said
"Hm," Liz said as she picked up a shirt and jeans, and put them together, "Try this," Liz said handing Peter the clothes. Peter took the clothes and headed to his bathroom, a minute later, he comes back wearing a red checkered shirt and blue jeans.
"What do you think," Peter asked
"Hm, not bad, let's keep looking," Liz said, she then handed Peter another set of clothes, "Try these on." Peter took the clothes and went back to the bathroom. "You know, I'm actually kind of surprised that this Wolverine guy would actually set you up on a date."
"Me too, it's so unlike him, it's not like he ever really took much interest in my love life before. I really must be worrying everyone if Logan is doing this," Peter said, through the bathroom door, he then came back in his room wearing a dark blue collared shirt with black chinos.
"Well, I got to admit Petey, even I was getting worried for you," Liz said
"Was I really that bad," Peter asked
Liz just gave a sympathetic smile, "You were just so depressed over you and Felicia's break up, it was worrying" she said
"It's just, I loved her Liz, and she loved me. At least that's what she said, I just can't help but wonder what went wrong, and now I can't help but wonder if going on this date is a mistake," Peter said
Liz walked up to Peter then, and hugged him which he gratefully returned, once they broke Liz spoke, "I know you loved her, and despite my reservations, I'll admit to starting to like her. She helped you move on from Mary Jane and made you happy, and if she did that then that was good enough for me. I don't know why she broke up with you Peter, I really don't. Maybe her feelings were genuine, and something happened that changed that, or maybe she was using you the entire time. But either way if she was dumb enough to break up with you then it's her loss, and you're better off. You're a great guy Peter, any girl who has you as a boyfriend will be lucky, this Kitty girl is lucky to be going out with you, because even though you have reservations about this date. I know that you will try to give her a good time," she then chuckled, "She'll be falling for you in no time. Don't let Felicia take away your faith in love Peter, you need to keep trying."
Peter smiled in appreciation, "Thanks Liz, really," he said
"Anything for you Petey, but just for the record, I will be keeping an eye on this girl," Liz said making Peter chuckle.
"Got it. So, what do you think," Peter said indicating toward his outfit.
"Hmm," Liz hummed thoughtfully
Xavier Institute, Kitty's room
Kitty is standing in front of her bed wearing a red sweater with blue jeans, "What do you think," Kitty asked Rogue who was sitting on Kitty's bed. After Kitty found out the details of her date she went to Rogue and asked her to help her pick out an outfit.
"Not bad," Rogue said
"Just not bad," Kitty said, she then went back to her clothes and started to look through them. She then took out a pink rose tank top and black pant. Kitty stripped herself of her clothes and put on the other outfit.
"Ah don't know why you're putting so much effort inta this; Ah thought you didn't want ta go on this date," Rogue said
"I may not have wanted to go at first but that doesn't mean I'm not gonna put any effort into it. What kind of person would I be if I did that, especially if he put effort in it," Kitty said as she went to her mirror and looked at herself.
"You sure that you're just not hoping that maybe Logan is right, and this Peter guy could be the one for you," Rogue said
"Well, I'll admit that that thought has crossed my mind, if that's the case then isn't that more of a reason to put in the effort. I mean I'm not gonna get my hopes up, and even if the date doesn't work out, I could certainly use a friend outside of this craziness that we call a life," Kitty said
"Point," Rogue said
Kitty then turned to Rogue, "Well," she asked
"Honestly, Ah think you look hot," Rogue said
"Thank you, but I'm not sure I want to go with hot, maybe cute or pretty, you know a first date kind of thing," Kitty said as she went back to searching.
"What did Logan say that you two would be doing," Rogue asked
"Mini-golf and pizza," Kitty answered
"Heh, not a bad first date," Rogue commented
"I know, I'm surprised too, I think he may have had help on this," Kitty said
"Who do you think helped? Jean, Ororo maybe," Rogue asked
"Not sure, doesn't really matter I suppose," Kitty said, she then put on her next outfit and looked at Rogue, "What do you think?" Kitty is wearing a blue-green sweater and cargo pants.
"Hm, cute," Rogue said making Kitty smile.
Peter's apartment
Liz hummed as she looked at Peter who was wearing a green collared shirt and khaki pants, "Not bad, but I think that we know what to do now, take off the khaki's and put on the black chinos," she said, doing as he is told Peter goes back to the bathroom and switch pants. Once he's out Liz takes another look at him, "Perfect," Liz said
"Really," Peter asked as he looked at himself.
"Yep, it's perfect. It's not formal, but it also says that you actually put an effort into your look, not to mention green is definitely your color," Liz said
"Ok then, great," Peter said, he then looked at his clock 4:30, "We're supposed to meet at the course, I should probably leave." Peter then takes a nervous breath.
"Hey," Liz said as she approached Peter, "Don't be nervous, listen you just go out there and forget everything ok. Forget about Felicia Hardy, forget about Spider-Man, forget that this is even a date. You just go and have fun with this girl, if something happens then great, if not then at least you tried. Just enjoy yourself Petey and have fun, ok?"
"Ok, thanks Liz," Peter said
"No problem, now get going, and I expect to get a phone call about this afterwards," Liz said
"Yes ma'am," Peter said
"Good, now get going," Liz said, with that Peter left his room and exited the apartment, heading to the golf course.
Xavier Institute, Kitty's Room
Kitty was once again in front of her mirror wearing a short-sleeved, dark blue buttoned collared shirt with jeans, 'Hm, nice,' Kitty thought as she looked at herself, she then looked at Rogue, "So what do you think?"
"I say go for it," Rogue said
"Really," Kitty said
"Really, I think that this Peter Parker guy will love it," Rogue said
"Awesome," Kitty said, she then gave out a deep breath.
"Hey you ok," Rogue asked
"I don't know," Kitty said as she sat down next to Rogue, "Do you think going on this date is a mistake?"
"Do you," Rogue asked
"I don't know. It's just that I have such a terrible track record with guys. With Wisdom, I thought he liked me, really liked me. He made me like him and become emotionally attached, but then I discovered all he wanted to do was sleep with me. I was just some conquest for him. That…that broke my heart," Kitty said
"I know, I remember that," Rogue said, she and Kitty are best friends, like sisters to be honest, and she was there when Kitty arrived at the institute in tears. Rogue had sat with her for hours comforting her as Kitty just cried in her pillow, and cursing Wisdom's name. Honestly finding out how that bastard was just using her friend, Rogue really wanted to go to England herself and absorb the man to the point of never waking up.
Rogue then looked at Kitty, it really was hard for Rogue when she was with the Brotherhood, not only was she going against her friends and the man who was pretty much her father, but she was also going against Kitty, her sister. Rogue has to say that she really is glad that she's back at the institute, she's glad that she patched things up with Logan, and she's glad to be back with Kitty, her younger sister. She just wishes that Kitty would fix things with Logan, the three of them in Rogue's opinion were like a little family, two sisters and their firm, overprotective father. Rogue sighed, that's a thought for another day.
"Then there was Piotr, I mean I really did love him Rogue, despite our age difference, I loved him, and I was willing to give myself to him, if he had let me. He never did though, he wanted to wait. He was such a gentlemen," Kitty said, she then chuckled, "A gentle giant, I was convinced that I would marry him one day. I wanted to be Kitty Rasputin. But that's not gonna happen, after the explosion and we were all leaving, Piotr just… just broke up with me, told me that he didn't think that we could do long distance. I guess he didn't have as much faith in us as I did. I guess he didn't love me as much as I loved him. It took me months to get over him Rogue, months."
Kitty sighed, "Then, there's Bobby, we weren't the closest when we went to the institute, we shared a sparing conversation, and I'll admit to thinking that he was cute. But when the X-Men reformed I'll admit that I really did to start like Bobby more, I don't know if it was because I was still reeling from my breakup with Piotr that made me start liking Bobby. I do know that as I got to know him, I didn't think of Piotr as much, and I hated it when Bobby gave Emma attention. As time went on my feeling truly became genuine, I thought Bobby was a good guy, and he was fun to be around. After we saved everyone and prevented an apocalypse or at least one apocalypse, I asked him out, and we had a good time, it was fun being with him. But whenever I wanted to talk about something serious, he always found a way to change the subject, I at first thought that he was just trying to distract me and make me happy, so I didn't mind. But then I'd want to talk about my feelings and again he changed the subject. I then started to notice that despite the fun we had, there was no connection between me and him. All he wanted to do was goof around or make out, he didn't take us seriously, he was just so immature. After two months I was ready to break up with him, but I thought I wasn't being fair and decided to give him an extra month to see if anything changed. But nothing did, he didn't change. I had to breakup with him, I just couldn't be in that kind of relationship."
"And now, I'm going on a date with a guy who I don't even know. Seriously, all I know is his name, and that he takes pictures of Spider-Man. Well, I know that he stopped that for a while, don't know why he stopped, all I know is that after about a year the pictures were of perfect quality, and he was back on the job. I also know that apparently Logan is friends with him which is honestly surprising," Kitty said
"Well, he is Spider-Man's best friend, or at least that's what Spidey said on the news once. By the way, did Logan ever get you that autograph," Rogue asked
Kitty scowled, "No, he didn't, he knows how much I love Spider-Man and I begged him for an autograph so many times, and yet he still never got it for me," Kitty complained, she sighed, "What am I gonna do Rogue? I don't want to have my heart broken again. I don't know if I can take it."
"Honestly, I think you should go for it," Rogue said
"Really," Kitty asked looking at Rogue.
"Sure, why not? I know that you're afraid Kitty, I know that you don't want another heart break, but think about this. What if this guy is Mr. Right? What if he's the one who you've been waiting for? Are you really gonna pass up that discovery just because you're afraid," Rogue said making Kitty sigh, "Listen, this is one date, it may not lead to anything, and if it does then I think you really should go for it. Don't let your past experiences ruin love for you. Giving up on love Kitty, it sucks, trust me I know," Rogue said solemnly at the end.
"Rogue," Kitty said sympathetically
"I may never find love Kitty. What kind of man would want to be with a woman who they can't even touch without fainting," Rogue said
Kitty put her hand on Rogue's shoulder, "A good man, and a man who understands you, wouldn't care. Being with you would just be enough for them," she said
Rogue sighed, "I highly doubt that I'll find a man like that," Rogue said, she then looked at Kitty, "Don't give up Kitty, never give up. If you have a chance to fall in love then you should take it, I know I would."
Kitty closed her eyes and sighed, she then opened them back up, "Ok, I'll do it," Kitty said
"Really," Rogue asked
"Really," Kitty said, as she stood up, she then looked herself in the mirror, "And I am so wearing this outfit." Kitty then looked at the clock and saw that it was 4:30, "I should go, I'm meeting him at five."
"Right," Rogue said as she got up, they then walked to the door, "Be sure to have fun, ok?"
"Ok," Kitty said, she then surprised Rogue with a hug, "Thanks Rogue, really, thanks."
"No problem," Rogue said as she hugged back.
Once they broke apart Kitty smiled at Rogue, "You shouldn't give up on love either Rogue, because I believe that guy, he's out there, and I'm sure you'll find him one day. And if this date works out and I do find myself with this Peter guy then maybe we can have a double date."
Rogue chuckled, "Sounds nice, I look forward to it," Rogue said
"So do I, now if you excuse me, I really have to go. Think I'm gonna take the quick way. Later," Kitty said waving.
"Later," Rogue said
With that Kitty activated her powers and phased through the floor to the ground level. Once she was on the first floor, Kitty took a look around, 'Good, no Bobby,' she thought, Kitty then headed to the front of the mansion and exited, heading to her date.
New York City, Avengers Mansion
In one of the many living rooms Logan and Janet were sitting down. Logan looked at the clock and saw that it was 4:30, "4:30, date will be starting in half-an-hour," he said
"Yep," Janet said
"Are you sure mini-golf and pizza is good enough. I mean aren't dates supposed to be about romance," Logan asked
"You haven't been on a lot of dates have you," Jan asked
"Other than taking a woman to a motel room with me, no," Logan answered, he can't help but remember Morico though, but they never went on a date.
Janet sighed and looked at Logan, "Listen, maybe if they knew each other and there were already some feelings then some romance wouldn't be a bad idea. But Peter and Kitty don't know each other, setting them up on a date at some fancy restaurant and making them wear a suit and dress, would just make them feel awkward and uncomfortable. Their first date needs to be at a more casual place, doing something that they will both find fun. Everyone likes mini-golf, and I don't know anyone who doesn't like pizza. Mini-golfing isn't a serious environment especially the place I picked for them to go, they won't feel pressure on having to woo each other. Playing mini golf will allow them to talk, joke, and act like the kids that they are, and pizza well they can easily share a pie, it's not a romantic dinner, but it may gain some laughs. Trust me Logan this is the perfect date for two kids their age," Janet said
Logan sighed, "If you say so Jan. What is this golfing course you chose for them anyway," he asked
"It's called Heroes Mini-Golf, it's really fun. Tony took me there once," Janet answered getting a raised eyebrow from Logan, "Not as a date, we were just two friends who had nothing to do and decided that mini golfing sounded fun."
"Right," Logan said
"It's true," Janet exclaimed
"Whatever you say," Logan said making Janet huff.
Heroes Mini-Golf
Peter was walking down the sidewalk looking at the address that he had, "Ok, so according to this I should be here," Peter said, he then looked up and saw that he was approaching a building. Peter stopped in front of the building and saw that it was a brick building with two display windows, on the left display window it showed Iron Man looking like he is about to hit a golf ball, on the right display widow is Captain America resting the golf club on his shoulder. In between the display windows are two double doors, above the doors is a sign that said Heroes Mini-Golf. Peter then looked forward and saw two double doors with posters that had some of the courses (I don't know what you caall the holes in mini-golf courses that have the obstacles.). Peter looks at the posters for a moment, "This has Janet written all over it. Knew you couldn't do this alone Logan," Peter said, he then opened the door and entered the building.
Once he entered the building Peter sees that they have a black tiled floor, and some stone walls, up front is a desk in front of the desk is a line of people, doesn't look to long. Behind the desk is a woman sitting behind it, behind the woman is rows of golf clubs, he sees two fridge/coolers with drinks in them, soda, iced tea, Gatorade, etc. Peter looks next to the door that leads to the golf course is a freezer that has different types of frozen treats. Peter looks at all corner in the room, in the left corner next to the display case her sees Wasp, to the right next to the other display window is Black Panther, Peter then looks at the upper right corner, he sees Cyclops, then in the upper left corner is some guy in a blue suit, some weird mask, and two guns. Peter thinks that he's heard of that guy, Tony told him about him, Star God? Sun Lord? He can't remember, all he remembers is that his name is Peter too.
Peter looks at his watch and sees that it is 4:45, "Heh, I'm actually early for once," he said, Peter then took out a picture of Kitty to he remembers who to look for. After taking another look, Peter places the picture in his pocket.
Outside
Kitty was speed walking on the sidewalk looking at the address in her hand, "Come on, come on, where are you," she said, she then looked at her cellphone, it said 4:55, "Shit." Kitty then looked at the buildings, "It has to be nearby. Heroes Mini-Golf, where are you?" Finally, Kitty finds the sign, "There you are." Kitty then went to the door but stopped for a moment, she takes a deep breath to calm her nerves. Once that is done, Kitty opens the door, and enters the building. Once inside Kitty takes a look around the place. "Hm, nice."
Peter who was waiting nearby notices Kitty's entrance, 'Well, there she is,' Peter thought, he then took a breath, 'Let's do this.' Peter then approaches Kitty, "Um, excuse me," he said getting Kitty's attention on him, "Kitty Pryde," he asked feeling nervous.
"Yes, that's me," Kitty said feeling her nerves returning to her, "And you are Peter Parker," she asked as she recognized him from the picture that Logan had given her.
"That's me, Peter Parker, at your service," Peter said as he offers his hand which Kitty shakes, "It's nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too," Kitty said
Once they broke the handshake Peter spoke, "So, are you ready," he asked
"Sure," Kitty responded, with that they walked up and joined the line.
"So, you ever been here before," Peter asked as they waited in line.
"Here? Um, no, never. I've gone mini golfing before, but I have never been here. Have you," Kitty asked getting a headshake from Peter.
"Never, I didn't even know this place existed until today," Peter said getting a hum from Kitty. It didn't take long for them to get to the front desk. The woman behind the desk had Caucasian skin, long brown hair, and brown eyes, her name tag says Jessica Jones.
"Hello, my name is Jessi-," but the woman stops for a moment when she sees who is in front of her. "Peter," the woman said
"Heh, oh hey Jessica. What are you doing here," Peter asked recognizing the girl.
"I work here, gotta make money somehow," Jessica said
"Yeah, I hear ya," Peter said
"What are you doing here," Jessica asked
"Oh, um well," Peter said as he blushes a little, "I'm on a date," he said as he turned toward Kitty who blushes as well at being called his date.
"Oh, really, a date," Jessica said
"Yeah," Peter said
Kitty then steps up, "Um hi," she said waving a bit, "I'm Kitty Pryde," Kitty introduced herself.
"Nice to meet you Kitty," Jessica said, "So that would be two golf clubs, and two golf balls," Jessica asked
"Yep," Peter and Kitty said
"What are your heights," Jessica asked
"5'8," Peter said
"I'm 5'6," Kitty said
"Ok, let's get your clubs," Jessica said, she then turned around and got the appropriate golf clubs. She turned back around, walked back to the desk, and handed Peter and Kitty their clubs. Jessica then shows the two a glass case with all kinds of golf balls in it, "We have a variety of golf balls, all with different types of designs, colors, and logos all related to superheroes. Take your pick."
Peter and Kitty take a look at all of the golf balls, after a moment of searching Peter finds his ball. That ball is a yellow ball with some red painted on top of it making it look like some type of armor, in the middle of the ball is a light blue circle, "I'll take the Iron Man one," Peter said, Jessica takes out the Iron Man ball and hands it to Peter.
Kitty is looking through the assortment of golf balls, she's got to admit that they have a lot of styles, finally as she looks through the middle row, and she finds the golf ball that she was looking for. She was hoping that they'd have it. The golf ball that she is looking at is a red golf ball with a web pattern and a black spider on the front, "Can you give me the Spider-Man one," Kitty asked
"Which one? We have the black one with a white spider, then we have his classic one," Jessica said
"The classic," Kitty said, Jessica then takes out the Spider-Man golf ball and hands it to Kitty, "Thank you."
Peter couldn't help but stare in surprise that Kitty just chose a Spider-Man ball over everything else. He quickly snapped out of the surprise and turned toward Jessica.
"Is there anything that you two would like to eat or drink," Jessica asked, the two superheroes looked at what was in the fridges.
"I'll have a Sprite," Peter said
"Coke for me," Kitty said
Jessica got the drinks from the fridge and placed them, "That will be thirty dollars even," Jessica said
"I've got this," Peter said as he got his wallet out.
"Are you sure," Kitty asked
"Sure, I don't mind," Peter said sending Kitty a smile making her smile in return. She can't help but be a little impressed by how gentlemanly that is. Bobby never paid for things for her, they always split it, which wasn't bad. She likes to pay her own way, makes her feel like she isn't taking advantage of anyone. Piotr paid for her, he always did, he himself was a gentleman, and it was one of the many things that made her fall for him.
"Ok then, you're all set, enjoy your date," Jessica said
"Thanks," Kitty said
"Thanks Jessica, see you on campus," Peter said as he and Kitty walked away going through the door that led to the golf course.
"See you Peter," Jessica said, once she saw they were gone Jessica leaned her head on her hand and sighed, "Well damn, guess he's off the market now. I knew I should have started flirting a week ago. Oh well."
Golf Course
Peter and Kitty walk in the course, as they enter, they both look around and see all sorts of superhero statues, they see one of Iron Fist, Wasp, Captain Marvel, Ant Man, The Thing, Wolverine, Cyclops. Kitty is actually surprised that they have X-Men statues here. The two walked to the hole that was inspired by Captain America, Peter can't help but chuckle at that, "Of course the first hole would be based on the first Avenger," Peter said
Kitty can't help but giggle as well. That is kind of funny when she thinks of it.
Peter notices that he was able to make Kitty giggle and smiles at that, making the girl laugh is always a good sign.
"You'd figure they'd be a bit more imaginative with the obstacles. I mean, they are using shields as obstacles," Kitty said as they observed the hole, they path was blue and there are three shields forming a zigzag, left, right, and left, then the hole is to the far right. "I wonder how Captain America would feel about being the easiest hole in the course."
"He probably wouldn't care much, would just say something about how he's happy that he could help get everyone in the groove of things," Peter said
Kitty can't help but grin, "In the groove of things," she repeated laughing a bit, she couldn't but laugh some more when she saw Peter's blush. She also can't help but notice how cute he is when he blushes.
"Well, maybe not in the groove of things, he'd probably say something military or 40s like. Would you like to go first," Peter asked
"Sure," Kitty said as she went to the beginning of the path, she placed her golf ball down in the middle and then got in position, trying to figure out where to aim, "Is there a military or 40s like," Kitty asked
"Hm, not sure. Every time I spoke to him, he always sounds so patriotic, everything he says always seems to have some meaning to it," Peter said
"I'll always be thankful to Captain America, he's done so much for me, even before I was born, he's done so much," Kitty said without even thinking.
"What do you mean by that. Does your family know him or something," Peter asked curious
Kitty realized what she said and blushed a little and Peter can't help but notice that she actually looks cute when she blushes, "Oh god I said that out loud, didn't eye," she said
Peter grinned, "You kind of did. So um, what did you mean by that, or is that personal," Peter asked
Kitty sighed, she then hit the ball; she didn't put enough strength in it. The ball hit the first shield but stopped 6 inches from the second shield. "Dammit," she whispered, Kitty then looked at Peter, "I'm jewish, my grandfather was in one of the concentration camps when he was young. He was set to be killed, but right when they were gonna kill him, Captain America and his team, The Howling Commandos infiltrated the camp beat the Nazis and saved everyone there, including my grandfather. If it weren't for Captain America, I never would have existed. If there are two heroes who I look up to, it's Spider-Man and Captain America."
Peter smiled, "If Cap were here, he'd say it was his pleasure to save everyone, because it was the right thing to do," he said
"So, it's true, you really know the Avengers," Kitty asked, she then realized what she asked. Shit, she was not supposed to ask that, she told herself that she wouldn't ask about things like that, "Sorry about that, I didn't mean to ask. Not something to talk about on a first date."
Peter chucked, "Don't worry about it, to answer your question yeah, I do know them," Peter said, as he walked up to the path, placed his ball to the right, he then looked at the path, and hit the ball. The ball rolled, and hit all three shields, but by the third shield, the ball had stopped after going two inches.
"Nice shot," Kitty commented
"Thanks, golf is all about trajectory and strength control, once you got that figured out, then you're good," Peter said as he and Kitty walked up to their balls.
Kitty hummed, that made sense. Kitty then took aim and hit her ball, it hit the second shield, then the third one, stopping 5 inches from the hole, "How did you meet them," she asked, seeing that he didn't care she'd figure she'd ask.
"I'm a photographer, I take pictures of Spider-Man, when he joined the Avengers and started fighting alongside them, I found myself taking pictures of not only him but them too. In the end, Spider-Man introduced me. He put in a good word, and somehow, I wound up becoming their personal photographer. Even when I'm not taking pictures of them for the newspaper, some wind up calling me for pictures," Peter said as he remembers Janet calling him up to take pictures of her designs. "I'll admit when I first became a photographer, I never thought this is where it'd lead me," Peter said
"I'm sure. Would you mind if I asked you something," Kitty asked
"Sure," Peter said
"I know that you're a photographer, I've known that since before we even met," Kitty said
"Oh," Peter said
"Yeah, I knew because you took pictures of Spider-Man," Kitty said
"And you're a fan," Peter asked getting a nod from Kitty.
"A huge one. And I was wondering, you had been taking Spider-Man's pictures since he first arrived, but then there was a time when you weren't taking his pictures. It was like you disappeared, then you came back and started taking pictures again. So, I was wondering what happened, why the break," Kitty asked
"Oh, that, well, you know who J. Jonah Jameson is right," Peter asked
Kitty nodded, "He's been against Spider-Man since he first made an appearance, not to mention really really loud," Kitty said
"Well Jameson wanted me to take an incriminating picture of someone who he thought was a bad person. I was gonna do it, it was just another job, but then I found out this person wasn't bad at all, they were good. They had a family, and if I were to take any incriminating pictures then it would ruin his life. I tried to talk to Jameson, convince him that the guy wasn't bad, but whenever J. Jonah Jameson has something in his head, he won't let it go. He always thinks that if someone is a menace or is bad then that is what they are, even when proof is right in front of him, he ignores it, and finds some excuse on how it isn't reliable," Peter said
"How does that guy still have his job," Kitty asked, she can't help but feel disgust for the man.
"I really don't know," Peter said
"So, what you disobeyed him and didn't take the picture," Kitty said
"Oh, I took a picture, it just wasn't the one that Jameson wanted, it was a good picture, and it was a good article. Jameson wasn't happy, as a punishment he benched me from the field, and made me do the Bugle's website instead," Peter said, he then hit his ball and made it in the hole. "He also docked my pay," Peter then took his ball out of the hole.
"What an asshole. Was it worth it," Kitty asked as she hit the ball but missed the hole by 3 inches making her frown. She then went to the ball and hit it in the hole, then she picked up the ball and they went off to the next hole.
Peter nodded, "It was. Jameson, he's made me take some incriminating pictures of some good people, and those pictures have nearly ruined those people's lives," Peter said as he remembered Curt Connors. "I knew those people too. I lost their trust because of those pictures, and I nearly lost the person who was practically my older brother, because he worked with those people. I couldn't do that again, no matter how much I needed the money."
"That's…really noble," Kitty said smiling, she couldn't help but be impressed by Peter. He knew that if he didn't do as his boss told him then he would face some heavy consequences, but he still disobeyed him because he couldn't ruin a guy's life just to make his better.
Peter shrugged, "It was the right thing to do. We did fall on some hard times because of it, but we survived," he said
"Your family doesn't have a lot of money," Kitty asked, she then realized what she said, "I am so sorry for asking that. That is way too much of a personal question to ask. You don't have to answer it."
"It's ok, really. I was really the only one who was working, I had take care of my aunt," Peter said
"Why couldn't your parents or uncle take care of her," Kitty asked
Peter flinched, "Now that is too much of a personal question, sorry," Peter said
"No problem," Kitty said
"We've been talking about me, how about we talk about you," Peter said
"I'd rather we talk about you," Kitty retorted
"I'm just your average guy from Queens," Peter said
"Average guy who takes pictures of superheroes," Kitty corrected making Peter laugh, seeing him laugh made Kitty smile, she did like his laugh, it sounded nice.
They then make it to the second hole which is based off the Wasp, next to the hole is a life-sized statue of the heroine. The path is a mixture of black and yellow, the path is then forked in to two different paths, both that turn, one to the right the other the left, and both leading to the hole.
"Come on, let's start with something easy," Peter said
"Like," Kitty asked as she leaned on her club.
"Like, why are you a fan of Spider-Man, so many people out there despise him, think he's a menace. Even after he joined the Avengers, people still seem to not like him. So why be a fan of someone who is so disliked," Peter asked
"There's a lot of reasons, I guess there is the obvious ones, like his powers. I always thought his powers were pretty cool, he had so many of them, and always used them effectively in every fight. I like that no matter how bad things get, Spider-Man can always crack some kind of joke that may not get a laugh but perhaps a few smiles," Kitty said
"You think he's funny," Peter asked getting a nod from Kitty.
"I do, then again I've been told my comedy sucks," Kitty joked making Peter laugh.
"What a coincidence, I've been told the same thing," Peter said
"Really," Kitty asked raising an eyebrow.
"Yep, by all kinds of people," Peter said making Kitty snort. "Is that all, are those the only reasons why you like him?"
Kitty shook her head, "There is one more, and it's the biggest," she said
"Oh, and what's that," Peter said
"It's like you said, so many people think that Spider-Man is a menace, he is so disliked, even when he has done nothing wrong people seem to hate him for no good reason. They always find a reason to hate him. Yet despite that hate, despite the insults, the ridicule, he still goes out there and helps people. So many people would just give up and stop doing the hero thing, but not Spider-Man, he just brushes it off, makes a joke, and continues helping. It's inspiring, it helps me keep on going too. Mutants are so hated and feared, we've done nothing wrong and yet people hate us. It both saddens and angers me, and there have been times when I ask why I continue to fight, there are times when I just considered quitting. But then I would look at Spider-Man and see how he is treated, he is treated just as badly as we are and yet he keeps on going, not because he's trying to prove anything but simply because it's the right thing to do. Seeing him, what he does, what he goes through, and how he just pushes past it. It inspires me to keep going, to keep fighting, not just for the future for mutants but for the world. The question isn't why am I a fan, it's why wouldn't I be a fan, why shouldn't I look up to him? Spider-Man, he's my idol, my hero, if I could just be an ounce of the hero that he is then that would be a huge accomplishment for me," Kitty said, she then noticed that there is silence and looks at Peter to see him staring at her stunned which makes her blush, "Um, whoops, sorry, I didn't mean to go on a passionate speech like that," Kitty said
Peter shook out of his shock, "Don't apologize, what you said is really surprising. If he heard that," he said but was interrupted by Kitty.
"Oh god, please don't tell him I said that. That would be so embarrassing," Kitty said, the thought of Spider-Man hearing that would be mortifying for her. If only she knew that the man before her was Spider-Man and what she said really makes him happy.
Peter smiled, "Kitty, I can guarantee you that if he heard that, that would really make his day," he said, and he was telling the truth, the fact that Peter was able to inspire Kitty to keep on going, the fact that he was able to make such a big impact on her life. It really makes Peter feel good, and just makes him want to work harder so he can inspire other people.
"Well either way, can you not tell him," Kitty said
"Sure, I won't tell," Peter said making Kitty relax.
"Thank you," Kitty thanked, she then went up to the hole and dropped her ball at the beginning of the path. Kitty then looked to where she needed to hit the ball and then she hits the ball, the ball rolls and enters the left path, the ball continues to roll down the path until it went in the hole, "YES HOLE IN ONE," Kitty cheered, Peter can't help but smile.
"Looks like I'll have to up my game," Peter said
"You will," Kitty said
Peter then dropped his ball on the ground took aim, and hit the ball; the ball rolled to the right path, and rolled down the path until it to made it in the hole much to Kitty's surprise.
"Seriously," Kitty exclaimed she then looked at Peter who was smirking, "Oh shut up," she said as she retrieved her ball.
"I didn't say anything," Peter said
"You were thinking it through, so shut up," Kitty said
Peter snorted, "Sore loser," Peter said as he retrieved his ball.
"This game is far from over," Kitty said as they walked to the third hole that was themed after Cyclops. "Scott would certainly get a kick out of this," Kitty commented
"So, what do you like to do for fun," Peter asked as he opened his Coke and took a drink of it.
"I like to dance, listen to music, and read," Kitty answered
"A dancer heh," Peter asked getting a nod from Kitty, "How long have you been dancing?"
"My mom signed me up for ballet when I was four. I've been dancing ever since," Kitty said
"Is it hard to find the time to practice because of your X-Man duties," Peter asked
"It's hard, but you have to learn to make time for these things. I learned that a long time ago. I at least take an hour out of my day to practice," Kitty explained getting a nod from Peter. "What about you what do you like to do for fun?"
"Anything science related is fun to me," Peter said
Kitty grinned, "Oh, so you're a nerd then," Kitty said
"A big one," Peter said making Kitty giggle at his admission, nothing's better to her than a guy who is honest with himself. "So, if you don't mind me asking, how did you get involved with the X-Men?"
"I don't mind, my recruitment really wasn't anything significant. Sad to say it wasn't some huge adventure like me saving the X-Men or something," Kitty said
"If you did that, I would be very impressed," Peter said
Kitty grinned, "Sorry to disappoint but it really wasn't anything interesting. When I was thirteen some weird stuff started happening to me. When I went to sleep, I would dream that I was flying in the air, but then I would suddenly fall to the ground. I would then wake up and find myself downstairs or in my basement. We weren't sure what was going on, but we had our suspicions, and my parents weren't the biggest fans of what it meant. Our suspicions were confirmed when Professor Xavier came to us and explained everything. I wanted to go to the institute, learning to control my powers and meeting other people like me sounded great. My parents, however, were against it and told the professor to leave. They thought that we could handle it, but we couldn't in the end I called the professor and told him I needed help, the professor came back. He apparently never left Deerfield, he came back with a stronger argument and even though they tried to ignore it my parents saw how much trouble I was having with my powers and so agreed to let me go to the institute. When I was there, I saw the X-Men train and I really was amazed by them. One of the teachers explained who the X-Men were and what they did, and I really was amazed and decided that I wanted to be part of the X-Men, so I trained hard, studied hard, and eventually I was allowed to go on a mission. After my first mission, I was granted a permanent membership and became the youngest person to ever join the team. Even today, I hold that record," Kitty explained
Peter nodded, "Is that how you met Logan," he asked
"Kind of, I had run into Logan a few times through my first few months at the institute and will admit to being scared of him at first, but then on a mission," Kitty said, she then sighed, "I screwed up, I screwed up big time, it nearly costed not only my life but others as well, but Logan stepped in and saved us. After the mission, when everyone was giving their reports to Cyclops, I thought Logan would give me a bad report, I was ready for it, and I was ready for whatever punishment that would be given to me. But to my surprise he didn't report me, instead he took the blame, after that when we got back from the mission I found him, and asked why he took the blame. He told me that if he reported me then I wouldn't be allowed on another mission till I was 18. I went on to say that I didn't belong at Xavier's and maybe I should go home. Logan, being the jerk he was, antagonized me by calling me a coward and a baby. I didn't like that and yelled at him; he yelled back. He then explained to me that since I arrived at the institute that I had been acting like a brat, I excelled at the academics and training, and I had no problem rubbing it in people's faces, but when I make one mistake, I am gonna just quit, he said then that maybe he was wrong about me and that I didn't belong there. I remember asking him what he meant by he was wrong about me. He then said that," Kitty said, she then smiled, "He said that I was a brat, but I had a good head on my shoulders. Weren't a lot of kids my age who were allowed on X-Men missions. I made mistakes that day and if Logan wasn't there then I wouldn't have lived to regret those deaths. But once I got my bearing I performed as he expected. I used my abilities to my advantage and handled Toad quickly, I also helped him quite a lot taking down blob. Despite me having one of the most passive powers in the institute. I had potential, a lot of it, and with the right guidance I could be the best."
"Wow, and he meant that," Peter asked
Kitty nodded, "He said if I get rid of my bratty attitude then yes, he really believed so. I wasn't sure though. Me the best? I certainly didn't feel like the best, I felt like I should have gone back to Chicago. But then I thought if I did that then wouldn't I be proving Logan right, would I not be acting like a coward and a baby. I didn't want to be those, I wanted to be a hero, and X-Man. But I couldn't do it alone, that's when I asked Logan to train me," Kitty said getting a surprised look from Peter.
"You asked Logan to train you," Peter asked shocked getting a nod from Kitty, "You know there are better ways to kill yourself, right?"
Kitty grinned, "I know it seemed crazy, trust me, everyone at the institute thought I was crazy, even Logan thought so. But he said that I could be the best, I wanted to be the best. I didn't want to be put in the same position that I was in, I wanted to be better, and it was obvious that Logan was the best, so I asked him, it took some convincing but he eventually agreed," she said, Kitty's face then became soft, "He trained me and it was utter hell, but as time went on a got used to it, and as time went on we became close. I grew to really enjoy our training session and looked forward to them. Logan, he was like a father to me."
"You really look up to him, don't you," Peter said taking Kitty out of her thoughts.
Kitty's face then became solemn, "I did look up to him, but that time is past now," she said
"Did something happen," Peter asked
Kitty grimaced at the question, "That is too personal to answer," she said
"Oh, sorry," Peter apologized
"Don't worry about it, I asked you too much of a personal question. It's only right that you can do the same. So how did you meet Logan," Kitty asked
"Through Spider-Man, one day I was taking pictures of an Avengers fight, of course my main focus must always be Spider-Man. Spider-Man saw me and dragged Logan over with him to meet me, he introduced us, and Spider-Man and I have been annoying Logan ever since," Peter joked making Kitty laugh at the thought, she could just imagine a tick forming on Logan's forehead in annoyance. God she would love to see that. "I swear I have never made a girl laugh as much as I made you laugh."
Kitty grinned, "Really," she said
Peter nodded, "They all say that my humor sucks," Peter said making Kitty laugh.
"Well, I did mention that people says that I have a terrible sense of humor right," Kitty responded
"You did, guess that means we both have a terrible sense of humor," Peter said grinning
"It so does," Kitty said, she then went to the beginning of the path, dropped her ball to the ground, took aim, and hit the ball. The ball then rolled up the red path and through the tunnel, Kitty grinned at that, Kitty then turned to Peter, "Beat that," she said smirking challengingly at Peter.
Peter returned the smirk, he then dropped his ball to the ground, took aim, and hits the ball. The ball rolled right through the tunnel no problem, Peter then looked at Kitty gloatingly.
"We still don't know where the balls are, so don't you dare be gloating yet," Kitty said, she and Peter then walked down the path to where the hole was. Once there they see that Kitty's ball is five feet from the hole while Peter's was three inches. Kitty then goes to her ball and hits it, but she hits it to hard and it passes right over the hole making her jaw drop open, Peter then goes to his ball and gently hits it in the hole. He then gives Kitty a gloating smile.
"Is it time to gloat yet," Peter asked making Kitty scowl.
"Shut up you jerk," Kitty responded making Peter laugh, she can't help but laugh to, "This is only the third hole, we got 15 more, plenty of time for me to whoop you."
"In your dreams, there is no way you are gonna beat me," Peter said
In response Kitty walked up to Peter and stopped just an inch in front of him, "Challenge accepted," she said smirking.
"Alright Ms. Pryde, game on," Peter said with that the two went through the entire course, the fourth hole was dedicated to Black Panther, hole number five was Mr. Fantastic, hole six was Miss Marvel, hole seven was Wolverine.
"Can't wait to tell Logan that they have a hole dedicated to him, wonder how he will react to know that he is after Cyclops," Kitty said as she hit the ball, the ball rolled up the claw path and into the knuckles.
"He has something against Cyclops," Peter asked curiously as he drops his ball and hits it in the same path following Kitty's ball.
"They pretty much hate each other, mostly because Scott thinks that Logan is trying to steal Jean from him, but Logan hasn't tried that in over a year," Kitty explained
"I know who Jean is, she's the redheaded psychic, but who is Scott," Peter asked
"Scott is Cyclops's actual name," Kitty said
"Oh, and he hates Logan because he thinks that Logan is trying to steal Jean from him," Peter said getting a nod from Kitty, "Logan must have a thing for redheads," he commented
"Why you say that," Kitty asked as they walked to the hole.
"About two years ago, Logan met my girlfriend at the time, MJ, and Logan had no problem with flirting with her right in front of me," Peter said
"Let me guess, MJ was a redhead," Kitty said getting a nod from Peter.
"Yep, Logan was being a real jerk that day," Peter said
"Logan does have his jerky days," Kitty said as they making it to their respective balls. Peter couldn't help but chuckle, "What," Kitty asked raising an eyebrow.
"You said jerky days, I can't help but think of Logan with a body made of jerky now," Peter said
Kitty suddenly picture Logan with a body made of jerky and couldn't help but laugh, "Ok that is funny," Kitty said
"What do you think his claws would be made of," Peter said
"What else, bacon," Kitty said, they both then thought of Logan bringing out his bacon claws and then laugh. After their laugh, Kitty hit her ball in the hole, but it took Peter two tries to make it. they then moved on to the next hole which was dedicated to Star Lord, "Who the heck is this guy?"
"Not sure really, I think his name is Star God, or Star Master," Peter said
"Sounds conceited," Kitty said as she dropped her ball.
After that hole they went to hole nine which was dedicated to Hawkeye, then they went to ten which was the Hulk, after they finished the Hulk hole they made their way to hole eleven which was The Thing. As they walked Kitty looked around their surroundings again, "They really do love superheroes here don't they," Kitty commented.
"Ha, this is nothing, in Queens Center Mall, they have a store called Marvel, it is decked out in everything superhero, toys, costumes, candy, everything," Peter said
"I have been there actually. That place, oh my goodness, I remember being there once and I found a statue of me there, I couldn't believe it, they had a statue of me. Someone thought I was actually statue worthy," Kitty said
Peter couldn't help but chuckle, "Is it so hard to believe? A beautiful girl like you, who wouldn't want to make a statue," Peter said without thinking.
Kitty couldn't help but laugh as well, but then what Peter said occurred to her and her eyes widened, cheeks blushed, and she suddenly became shy, "You…you think I'm beautiful," she asked shyly
When Kitty asked that Peter couldn't help but blush, 'Foot meet mouth,' he thought, well might as well be honest, "Well, yeah, of course, it's kind of obvious," Peter said
"You think? I always thought that I was kind of ordinary," Kitty said
"No way, you're beautiful, I'm ordinary," Peter said
"Yeah right, you are one of the most handsome guys I've seen," Kitty complimented
"You think," Peter asked raising an eyebrow.
"I know," Kitty said
Peter couldn't help but cough and rub his head in embarrassment, "Well thanks," Peter said
"Just don't let it get to your head," Kitty said, she couldn't help but grin at how embarrassed Peter looked, he looked really cute when he's embarrassed.
Peter smiled, "I'll try my best," Peter said
"Good, now onward, your butt kicking awaits," Kitty said as they continued to walk.
"My butt kicking, you realize that I'm five points ahead of you right," Peter asked
"Not for long," Kitty said as they made it to the eleventh hole. They then went to hole twelve which was themed after Jean, hole thirteen was the Human Torch.
'I am so not telling Johnny about this, he'd spend an entire week gloating,' Peter thought as they completed hole thirteen. Hole fourteen was Iron Man.
"Why did you choose the Iron Man ball," Kitty asked as she hit the ball and watched it as in rolled near the hole.
Peter then came up and dropped his ball, "Tony Stark was always one of my personal heroes growing up, even before he was Iron Man. Tony Stark revolutionized technology for the world, I always thought one of the coolest jobs ever would be to work at Stark Industries. Hey, betcha I can hit your ball away from the hole," Peter said
"Don't you dare," Kitty warned
"You know when you say that it just makes me want to do it more," Peter said, he then took aim and hit the ball, they then watched as Peter's ball hit Kitty's ball away from the hole three feet.
"YOU JERK," Kitty said as she slapped Peter's arm making him laugh, "WHAT THE HELL? WHAT DID I EVER DO TO YOU?" Despite the increased volume Kitty was smiling.
"Heh, guess I feel like being mean," Peter said
"That was so mean," Kitty complained, "I hope you know; I am so getting my revenge."
"Just try it," Peter said
"Oh, you will regret those words," Kitty said, she then went to her ball and hit it only for it to stop in inch from the hole, "SHUT IT," Kitty said pointing to Peter who zipped his lip making her roll her eyes. Peter then went to his ball and hit it in the hole; he then picked up his ball. Kitty then hit her ball in the hole. They then made their way to the next hole, "You said that Tony Stark is one of your personal heroes, what are your other ones," Kitty asked
"Well, there's Hank Pym, Reed Richards, Hank McCoy, Charles Xavier," Peter said but was interrupted by Kitty.
"Wait, you look up to Hank and Professor Xavier," Kitty asked surprised
"Well yeah, why wouldn't I, they are both renowned scientists, they're the best in their fields. I've had to have read all of their papers. I'm really looking forward the Doctor McCoy's next paper. Working with anyone of them would really be a dream come true," Peter said, well he has worked with Tony a few times but that is only for Avenger things, Reed has also been kind enough to let him help in some experiments which Peter is thankful for. He supposes that working with Dr. Pym, Dr. McCoy, and Professor Xavier would be a dream come true, except let's take out the crazy from Pym.
"You don't mind that they are mutants," Kitty asked
"Not at all. Why would I? They being mutants doesn't change all of their accomplishments, all that they've done. They got to where they are through hard work, that's something I respect and look up to," Peter said
"And you don't mind that I'm a mutant," Kitty asked the question that has been on her mind for a while now.
Peter then looks at Kitty, "Not at all," he said as he unconsciously grabbed Kitty's hand, neither noticed though, they were too busy looking at each other, "In this past hour we've spent together, I can honestly say that you are a wonderful woman, Kitty. Whether you're a human or mutant, I don't care. All I know is that I really enjoyed myself, and I like spending time with you," Peter said
Kitty smiled softly at Peter, looking in his eyes, she can tell that he means every word that he said, unconsciously Kitty squeezed Peter's hand, "I enjoy spending time with you to," she said, they stand there for a bit just looking at each other, until they finally realize what they are doing, they also realize that they are holding each other's hands. They blush and quickly let go.
"S-sorry, I didn't mean," Peter said
"It's cool, really. No harm done," Kitty said, there is a moment of silence that Peter interrupts.
"So, back to the golf course," Peter said
"I'm so kicking your butt," Kitty said
"I'm still winning," Peter said
"Not for long," Kitty said
They were able to go through holes, 15, 16, and 17 which were styled after Thor, Invisible Woman, and Black Widow. Finally, they were able to make it to the 18th hole which was styled after Spider-Man much to Peter's surprise and Kitty's enjoyment.
"Hole 18 is Spider-Man," Peter asked in surprise.
"Of course, they would use the best hero for the last hole. Now let's get started," Kitty said as she drops her ball to the ground and aims, "Come on Spider-Man be with me."
"You're not praying to Spider-Man are you," Peter asked
"Of course not, I may be a fan but I'm not that type of fan. Praying to a superhero, that would just be weird. No, what I'm doing is speaking to this course, hoping that it will hear me and realize that I am a big fan of Spider-Man, as proof of my using a Spider-Man golf ball. I'm hoping that once it realizes that then it will let me have a hole in one," Kitty explained
Peter grinned, "Yeah, that's not weird," he said
"Oh, shut up and watch," Kitty said, she then looked back to her target, and hit the ball. The ball rolled through the webbing, through the spiderweb, going down the next webbing and into the hole, "YES, TAKE THAT, I WIN," Kitty cheered
"Now hang on a second, I still haven't gone yet," Peter said as he dropped his ball on the ground.
"The only way you are gonna win is by getting a hole in one too and there is no way," Kitty said but was interrupted by Peter hitting his ball and getting a hole in one as well. Kitty looked on in shock and then at Peter, "I call cheat, you cheated."
"How did I cheat," Peter asked
"I don't know, give me some time and I'll think of something," Kitty responded
"Talk about a sore loser," Peter said as he and Kitty walked up the hole and got their balls.
"Oh, shut up, you jerk," Kitty said, as they took the path that led back to the building. They made it to where the exit was and ran into one of the workers who was at a window. They returned their golfclubs.
"Thank you both, you know if you like you can buy your golf balls for four dollars," the person said
"Really," Peter and Kitty asked getting a nod from the worker.
Peter thought for a moment, "I think I'm good," Peter said as he handed the worker the golf ball.
"I'll buy mine," Kitty said as she took out some money and handed it to the worker. She then noticed Peter smirking at her, "Hey, I said I'm a Spider-Man fan, I hold no shame in getting this golf ball." All Peter did was shrug and chuckle. After that they left the course and entered the sidewalk of New York.
"That was fun," Peter said
"Yeah, for you, I still think that you cheated," Kitty said
"You are such a sore loser," Peter said
"I am not," Kitty said
"You so are," Peter said
"I'm not," Kitty said
"Ok," Peter said
"Ok," Kitty said
"Alright," Peter said
"Fine," Kitty said
"Fine," Peter retorted
"Jerk," Kitty said making Peter chuckle. They then both realize that they are hungry, "I'm starving."
"Yeah, winning definitely works up an appetite. Although in your case, I guess it's losing," Peter teased
"Shut up," Kitty said as she pushes Peter making him stumble a couple of steps.
"Whoa," Peter said as he caught himself.
"Serves you right for gloating," Kitty said smiling
"Like you wouldn't be doing the same," Peter said
"I don't know what you mean," Kitty said
"Sure," Peter said rolling his eyes, "Cellini's is nearby, want to go there?"
Kitty smiled, "Sounds good," she said, with that they head over to Cellini's Pizzeria. When they arrive, Peter opens the door for Kitty to go through, "Thank you," she said as she entered the restaurant.
"No problem," Peter said as he entered after Kitty. As they entered Peter and Kitty went up to the counter and looked at the menu, "Any preference?"
"How about a pepperoni deep-dish," Kitty said
"I'm more of a New York style guy myself. But I won't argue," Peter commented
"Glad to know, that you know your place," Kitty said
"Actually, I wasn't gonna argue because I thought maybe letting you choose the food would lessen the sting of defeat that I handed to you," Peter retorted
"Oh, shut up," Kitty said scowling making Peter chuckle.
Peter then looked to the worker, "One large pepperoni deep-dish please," he said
"Alright, is there anything you two would like to drink," the worker asked
"A Coke for me," Peter answered
"Sprite please," Kitty said, she then remembered something, "Hey," Kitty said getting Peter's attention.
"Yeah," Peter asked
"Would you mind if we switched to beef pepperoni," Kitty asked
"Sure, go ahead," Peter said
"Thanks," Kitty thanked, she then turned her attention to the worker, "Can you please change the pepperoni from pork to beef," Kitty asked
"Of course, is that all," the worker asked
"That's all for me," Peter said
"Same," Kitty said
"Ok then, that will be $25," the worker said
"I've got it," Peter said as he got out his wallet.
"No, I've got it," Kitty said taking out her own wallet.
"No, it's ok, I have it," Peter said
"You don't have to have it, I can pay," Kitty said
"I'm ok with paying so don't worry about it," Peter said
"You paid for golfing, let me pay for the pizza," Kitty said
"You don't have to," Peter said
"I like to pay my own way," Kitty said
"I was raised to be a gentleman, and gentlemen pay for the entire date," Peter said
"I've never been very traditional, let me pay," Kitty said
Peter was about to respond but was interrupted by the worker who was watching the two argue in amusement, "Dude, let the lady pay, you know what the say, a happy wife means a happy life," the worker said
"WHAT," Peter and Kitty said as they turned toward the worker, both of their faces red.
"You realize we're not that old yet right, I mean I'm 19," Peter said
"19, right here" Kitty said
"Well with the way you two are acting I'd figure that you just got married," the worker said grinning making both teens faces get more red. "Anyway, let the lady pay."
Peter paused, he then looked at Kitty who gave him an expectant look, seeing this Peter sighed, "Fine, you can pay," Peter said smiling.
Kitty smiled in return, "Thank you," Kitty said, she then took out her money and gave it to the worker, who in return gave her the table sign with a number 4 on it.
"Alright then, let's get a table," Peter said
"Ok, but first," Kitty said, she then walked up to Peter and kissed his cheek much to his surprise, he then blushes and looked at Kitty who is blushing as well.
"What was that for," Peter said
"Well, um, I guess I just don't want you to be upset. I know I gave a good fight with the paying thing. I...really do appreciate you wanting to pay for everything. It's sweet, and in the past, I wouldn't have put up a fight. But now, I like to pay my own way, it makes me feel like I'm not taking advantage of anyone," Kitty said
"I'm the one who offered Kitty," Peter said
"I know, and like I said, I really do appreciate it. I really hope that little argument didn't ruin everything," Kitty said
"What, that? Kitty it takes a lot to anger me, don't worry about it," Peter said making Kitty sigh in relief.
"That's good, because I'm really enjoying this, I'd hate for it to go to hell all because of some spat on who pays," Kitty said
"Well, hey, you let me choose where we sit, and we're good, deal," Peter said
Kitty smiled, "Deal," she said, with that the two walked around the restaurant looking for a good place. Finally, Peter finds a two-seat table next to the wall that had a picture of the founder on it, he leads Kitty to the table, and they sit down. The two then continue to talk and joke with each other, Peter continues to rib Kitty on how he won, and she lost to which she tells him to shut up and calls him a cheater. Of course, they both knew it was all in good fun as shown with the smiles on their faces. Finally, their pizza arrives, and the server leaves them but not before telling them to enjoy their food to which they give their thanks. Peter then opens the box and there are eight slices of pizza right in front of them. They both take a slice of pizza and take a bite.
"Not bad," Peter said
"Not bad, this is the best," Kitty said as she takes another bit of her pizza.
"It's ok, you know for Chicago style," Peter said
"You know, I think your saying that to get a rise out of me," Kitty commented
"Well, I have gotten plenty of rises from you so far. Why not continue the cycle," Peter said making Kitty playfully glare at him.
"You're a jerk," Kitty said
"That's what you keep calling me, well that and a cheater," Peter said
"You are a cheater," Kitty responded, "I swear I am never playing minigolf with you again."
"Why, because I'll kick your butt like I did today," Peter said
"No, because you're a cheater, and I don't play with cheaters," Kitty said
"Are you always like this when you lose," Peter said smirking
"No, I'm only like this to cheaters," Kitty said making Peter chuckle which in return she giggles. "So, if you don't mind me asking, that girl at the front desk at the golf course, how do you know her?
"Jessica, we go to the same college," Peter said
"Really," Kitty asked intrigued
"Yeah, we have a class together, been paired up before. We've talked a bit, she's nice, takes her work seriously, and I respect that. We've hung out outside of class," Peter said
"Oh, do you hang out often," Kitty asked getting a shrug from Peter.
"Not really, we hang out sometimes, she's nice. Now that I think about it maybe we should hang out more often," Peter said thoughtfully
"Can never have to many friends," Kitty said
"That's true, the only person who I do hang out often with is Liz," Peter said
"Liz," Kitty asked
"Liz Allen, we went to high school together, one time girlfriend, now turned best friend," Peter said
"Wow, and there is no awkwardness at all with that," Kitty asked
"Well when we first broke up, she didn't talk to me for a while, but that later changed. Any awkwardness that used to be there is now gone, she's just my best friend now, and I'm her's," Peter said
"Well, that's nice," Kitty said, 'Wish my exes were like that,' she thought as she thought of Bobby and how he keeps on bugging her for another chance.
"So, what about you, who do you hang out with," Peter asked
"Well, I tend to spend most of my time with the X-Men, they are my friends, I'd say even family. But if you want specific people, I'd say two of my best friends are Rogue and Kurt," Kitty said
"Rogue," Peter repeated trying to remember who she is, "She's that girl with brown and white hair right?" Kitty nodded at Peter's question, "Heh, I heard Hawkeye call her skunk hair."
Kitty snorted at that, "Do not call her that to her face, she hates it when people call her skunk hair," she said
"Really," Peter asked getting a nod from Kitty.
"She will absorb you if you call her that," Kitty said
"Dully noted, so who is Kurt," Peter asked
"Nightcrawler," Kitty answered
"The blue guy with the cool tail," Peter asked
"You think his tail is cool," Kitty asked
"Sure, I've seen him on the news, they way he uses his tail in fights are very impressive. So is that all you hang out with" Peter asked
"I hang out with Jean and Storm sometime, and I used to hang out with Iceman but not anymore. That is a complication that's I'd rather not get into right now," Kitty said
"Ok sure," Peter said
"So, you really go to college," Kitty asked
"Yep," Peter answered
"What's your major," Kitty asked
"I'm majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in engineering," Peter said
"That's cool. Where do you go," Kitty asked
"Empire State University, I got in on a scholarship," Peter answered
"Really," Kitty said impressed and intrigued
"Really. So, what about you? You in college," Peter asked
Kitty sighed, "No, I graduated high school, but I haven't applied for college," she said a bit embarrassed, knowing that Peter is in college while she isn't, is making Kitty feel insecure now. She can't help but wonder if he may judge her for it. It's not that she doesn't want to go, college has always been a plan for her. But with everything that has happened, she could never find the time. And with them trying to prevent the upcoming apocalypse, she's afraid that she may never go.
"Oh, can I ask why," Peter said
"Being an X-Man takes a lot of my time, I'm afraid that I just don't have that time, and I can't afford to take a break, they need me," Kitty said, she then looked at Peter, "Is…is that a problem, me not being in college?"
"No problem, if you can't go, you can't go. There are a lot of people out there who have led successful and happy lives who haven't gone to college," Peter said making Kitty relax.
"Thanks, and it's not like I'm slacking or anything, I may not be in college, but I do like to keep my mind active," Kitty said
"How do you do that," Peter asked
"Well, I enjoy reading," Kitty said
"Really," Peter asked getting a nod from Kitty. "What genre do you like?"
"I like romance, action/adventure, fantasy, and sci-fi," Kitty said
"What else do you do to keep your mind active," Peter asked
"Well, I like game shows," Kitty said
"Really," Peter asked
"Yep, I love Family Feud, seeing two families go head-to-head is really entertaining," Kitty said
"Hm, I've never watched game shows much," Peter said
"Really," Kitty asked getting a nod from Peter, "I am so sitting you down one day, and we are watching Family Feud."
"Sounds fun," Perer said
"Oh, believe me, it will be," Kitty said grinning making Peter grin in return. With that the two continued on with their conversation until all of their pizza was gone and their drinks were empty. When they realized that, they decided that it was time to leave. With that they got up from their chairs and exited the restaurant. As they exited the restaurant Peter decided to look at the time and saw that it was 7:30.
"Wow, it's 7:30," Peter said
"Really," Kitty asked in surprise, there is no way it could be 7:30. They weren't it the restaurant that long, were they? "Time sure flies, don't it?"
"Only when you're in good company," Peter said making Kitty blush.
"Can't argue there," Kitty said
"So, do you want to call it a night or keep going," Peter asked, he is hoping that she wants to keep the date going, he really is enjoying himself.
Kitty bit her lip in thought, it is pretty late, she should probably head back to the institute, but. Kitty then looks at Peter. She really is enjoying herself and doesn't want to leave just yet, she could stand to be home later, "Would you mind, if we extended this date an hour?"
Peter smiled in response, "Not at all. I'd be happy to," he said making Kitty smile.
"Good," Kitty said
"Would you like to go to Central Park," Peter asked
"Sounds fun," Kitty said, with that the two walked to Central Park, once they arrived, they continued their walk. There didn't seem to be a lot of people so they were mostly alone which neither minded, in fact they were actually enjoying their alone time as they talked. Kitty looked in the sky and saw some stars, "The stars really are beautiful."
"Yeah, I know something more beautiful though," Peter unconsciously said as she looked at Kitty, she really did look beautiful under the star light.
Kitty heard the compliment and looked to see Peter looking at her, once again Kitty blushed and moved a piece of hair from her face in shyness.
Peter then realized he said that out loud and blushed again, "Foot meet mouth," he said making Kitty laugh.
"Don't worry about it, thank you. You really know how to charm a girl you know that," Kitty said, and she is telling the truth, she really is falling for Peter's charm, and she doesn't mind. She'll later discover that is the power of the Parker Charm, which is an ability that all Parkers have. Kitty decided that it was time to check her phone for the time and saw that it was 8:30, she sighed in disappointment, "8:30, I guess it's time to go."
"I guess so," Peter said in disappointment
Kitty then stopped and looked at Peter who stopped as well. "I'll be honest I was hesitant of going on this date," she said
"Really," Peter asked
Kitty nodded, "Just a couple of weeks ago I had just broken up with my boyfriend. I've had terrible luck when it came to relationships, one guy I found out was using me because he wanted to sleep with me, the other one broke up with me not long after the explosion, then my most recent ex, he was just immature, and didn't take the relationship seriously. When Logan told me about how he set up this date, I didn't want to go, I didn't want to take another chance. The chance of having my heart broken again," Kitty said
"I can understand that," Peter said, he then sighed, "My love life has been a total mess let me tell ya."
"Really," Kitty asked
Peter nodded, "Back in high school, there was this girl Gwen Stacy, she was a good friend of mine, and I was in love with her, and she was in love with me, she kissed me on Thanksgiving once. We wanted to be together, but things always got in the way."
"What kind of things," Kitty asked
"My responsibilities as a photographer, tended to take a lot of my time back then. Then to my surprise another girl, Liz, she apparently liked me, she came up to me on New Years and kissed me, next thing I know I'm in a relationship. Then Gwen gets in a relationship with my best friend Harry. Long story short after some time we talked and decided that we wanted to be together. The plan was to break up with the people we were with then. So, I broke up with Liz, while Gwen was supposed to break up with Harry. However, a lot of things happened, his father died, and Gwen decided to stay with him," Peter said
"Ouch," Kitty said
"Yeah, she then spends the rest of high school avoiding me while Harry spends the rest of high school giving me the cold shoulder. I'll admit it was heartbreaking, but I wasn't totally alone. I told you about MJ," Peter said getting a nod from Kitty.
"Logan was being a total jerk and flirted with her in front of you," Kitty said
"Right, well MJ was there, we were just friends at the time, but she was there, and she picked up the pieces, we then wound up dating, I moved on from Gwen and fell in love with MJ. It was a good relationship," Peter said
"What happened," Kitty asked
"She wanted to be an actress, so she moved out of New York and to Los Angeles to focus on acting. She didn't think a long-distance relationship would work out, so she broke up with me," Peter said
"Been there, one of my exes broke up with me because he didn't think we could do long distance," Kitty said
"Where was he from," Peter asked
"Russia," Kitty answered
"Russia? Wow," Peter said
"I know that really is long distance, but I really believed that we could have made it work, but he obviously didn't," Kitty said
"Hm, after MJ, I wind up getting close to another friend of mine, we started dating, and I moved on from MJ with her. We were in love, or at least I thought we were," Peter said grimacing at the memory.
"That doesn't sound good," Kitty said making Peter chuckle.
"It isn't, one day I meet up with her and she tells me that we need to talk, we go someplace to be alone. She then tells me that she's not my girlfriend anymore, said that we've run our course and that she didn't want to keep running the same course when she knew all of the turns. I tried to talk it out, but she told me not to even try that it would just make me look even more pathetic," Peter said
"Wow," Kitty said as she scowled, how could someone be so cruel, especially to a nice guy like Peter, "I hope you don't mind me saying this but what a bitch."
Peter couldn't help but grin, "Logan said something similar. For the past month I had tried to figure out what went wrong. I mean she tells me she loves me then she breaks up with me a month later. I was in a real funk, guess I worried everyone, so much so that Logan decided that I needed to be set up on a blind date. Said that I need to move on, I was hesitant, like you I didn't want to go through another heart break. But you know what," he asked
"What," Kitty asked
Peter smiled, "I'm glad I came," Peter said as he felt his heart warm up.
Kitty smiled in return, and felt her heart skip a beat, "So am I," she said
"Glad enough, to go on a second date," Peter asked
"Definitely," Kitty responded, she them stepped closer to Peter, "And you know what?"
"What," Peter said as he stepped closer to Kitty.
"All of those girls, they were idiots for breaking up with you," Kitt said
"I could say the same with the guys who broke up with you," Peter said
"You can certainly say so," Kitty said
"Their idiots," Peter said making Kitty giggle. They then noticed how close they were and as they looked at each other, they knew that they both wanted the same thing. But both couldn't help but feel awkward, "You know, I um don't normally do this on a first date."
"Yeah, of course, I mean it's a first date, first dates are about getting to know each other see if something is there," Kitty said
"It can be a very bad idea," Peter said
"Really bad, but," Kitty said
"Would I be a jerk if I said that I have thought of it a few times during this date." Peter asked
"Really," Kitty asked getting a nod from Peter, "Well if you're a jerk, then so am I because I have been thinking this since we left the golf course."
"Really," Peter asked getting a nod from Kitty, "So, should we?"
"Do you want to," Kitty asked
"I'd like to," Peter said
"So, would I," Kitty said
"Ok then," Peter said
"Ok," Kitty said, a few minutes passes and neither do anything , "Are we gonna do this or what?"
"Sorry, guess I'm feeling a little nervous," Peter said feeling his heart speed up.
Kitty sighed, she can feel her heart speed up as well, "Same," she said
They both stand there for a moment long still feeling nervous. Peter finally takes a deep breath, 'Screw it,' he thought, with that Peter grabs Kitty's waist and pulls her into a kiss much to her surprise, but once the surprise passed, she closes her eyes, wraps her arms around Peter's neck and kisses him. The kiss lasts for 20 seconds, and it had to be the best kiss that either of them has had. It was like fireworks going off right in front of them. Finally, after 20 seconds, the two break apart and rest their foreheads together. As they looked at each other they couldn't help but smile, "Wow," Peter said, that had to have been the best kiss that he had had.
"Yeah, wow," Kitty said, she couldn't believe the kiss that she just had, it was amazing, her lips are tingling. Kitty couldn't help but grin, "You know I'm still angry that you cheated at mini golf."
"You are such a sore loser, you know that right," Peter said
Kitty rolled her eyes, "Shut up and kiss me," she said, with that Peter and Kitty once again met in another kiss.
Later at Peter's apartment
Peter opened the door to his apartment and entered. He closes the door and locks it, Peter then sighed, tonight was great, he hasn't had that much fun in a long time, and that kiss at the end certainly was amazing, the make out session was better though, he can't wait to do that again. "Petey," Liz said from behind him making him look at her in surprise. He sees that she is getting up from the couch.
"Liz hey, what are you doing here," Peter asked
"I decided to try and take a go at sowing your costume, it's certainly giving me a hard time, I wound up falling asleep," Liz answered
"Told you that you would regret it," Peter said as he headed to his room to change into some pajamas.
At the same time, Xavier Institute
Kitty opened the door of the institute and entered, she takes a quick look around and sees that no one is around. 'Perfect,' she thought, good no one is around, now she can go straight to her room, and in bed, she'll probably hear about it in the morning, but she doesn't care, it was so worth it for that kiss, or maybe she should say make out session, considering that is exactly what that second kiss tuned into. Not that she's complaining, Peter Parker certainly is an amazing kisser that's for sure. Kitty snuck her way up the stairs and to her room, finally when she got to her room Kitty phased through her door, entering her room.
"There you are," Rogue said surprising Kitty.
"Rogue. What are you doing here," Kitty asked
"Waiting for you, what else," Rogue answered
"Right," Kitty said as she started to get changed into her pajamas.
Peter's Apartment
Peter's door opened revealing Peter in a white t-shirt, and black gym shorts, "You mind if I crash here," Liz asked
"Sure, go ahead," Peter said
"So how was the date," Liz asked
Xavier institute
"So, how was the date," Rogue asked as Kitty put on a white t-shirt, and sweatpants.
Peter's apartment
Peter looked at Liz and smiled, "It was astonishing," Peter said
Xavier institute
Kitty looked at Rogue and smiled, "It was spectacular," she said
