Meaning: Happiness, warmth
Sometimes Zatanna wishes she could just drown out the world's problems and revel in its warmth.
Her closest friends know her as the unwavering star, but she'll be the first to say that she's just as wavering as anyone around her. Happiness tends to be a stranger when she needs him most, and sometimes the weights she carries everyday manage to slip off her shoulders and into her heart.
Bioship touched down mere minutes ago, but she was too exhausted to attend the debriefing. It's late at night, she's got school tomorrow, and in the back of her mind she realizes that she still hasn't finished math homework or her literature essay. It's fine, her lazier half tells her. Artemis can help her with the essay during lunch break, and her boyfriend's a math wizard. She'll find some way to pay him back…maybe even get some enjoyment out of it.
Zatanna's really quite fortunate M'gann disconnected the mind link.
Pushing all dirty thoughts out of her brain, she slinks back to her room in the cave and collapses onto her bed, still in uniform. She's too tired to even change out of it, especially after what the day's thrown at her.
She closes her eyes and feels herself begin to drift off into the solitude of sleep, hardly even noticing when the door flutters open and a familiar figure crawls into bed with her. His frame is skinny, able to slide under the covers without much fuss. She feels him press up against her perky chest and revels in the warmth he brings her as his arms slide around her lithe waist. She immediately takes note that he's still in uniform, but that's okay because his uniform is pretty skintight.
Another thing she'll be able to take better advantage of in the morning.
He moans softly into the pillow, more a tired whine than anything else, and Zatanna feels a delightful tingle rush down her spine when he kisses the top of her head. She responds by snuggling up to him and throwing her own arms around his body as if he were a teddy bear.
She wonders how he's able to pull off so many acrobatic feats when he's so scrawny, and she makes a mental note to challenge him to an arm wrestle tomorrow because she's pretty convinced she can beat him.
He doesn't say anything, and at first she's worried. But pretty soon she hears his own snores and closes her eyes, letting a soft smile stretch across her lips as she hurries to join him in sweet relief.
On second thought, she realizes she doesn't need to drown anything out. She'll do just fine as it is.
Because happiness is a person, and he's got her heart in his hands.
