Meaning: Light, simplicity
Her mother studied the stars.
Sometimes they'd lie down together and admire them from the patio of her place in New York. She always thought they were beautiful, like tiny beacons of simplistic elegance dazzling the dull, dark sky with sprinkles of light. But when her mom passed away, she lost some of that adoration. It felt ridiculous to admire the magnificence beyond her reach when that magnificence did nothing to keep her family safe.
She remembers one thing, though. Something her mother told her on her deathbed.
'I'll always be with you, baby. For whenever you look to the stars, think of one of them as my soul.'
She only dreams the stars weren't so far away. Maybe that way she could one day see her mother in the night sky, smiling down at her like a guardian angel. Maybe that way she could come to admire them once more.
He found her on the shore of the cave's beach, staring aimlessly into the night sky. Her hair flows through the brisk wind with more grace than the cold waters that reach just inches away from her feet. Her legs are crossed and she's hugging them together, completely lost in thought but somehow looking like she has a purpose nobody can deny.
The muffled pattering of his bare feet in the cold sands alerts her of his presence, but she doesn't flinch when he sits down next to her. He snakes an arm around her back to pull them closer together, and it doesn't take long for her to feel his gaze on her figure.
She faces him, the pale lavender hue of the night sky casting a beautiful aura over both their features, and in an instant she finds warmth in the locking of their crystal blue eyes. Without warning he leans in to kiss her, and she cups his cheek with her palm, savoring the soft, delicate smoothness of his skin. Her touch is gentle and the kiss is innocent, but somehow that makes it even sweeter.
They pull apart and she rests her head on his shoulder with a soft smile on her lips, and as her hand finds its way to his in the sand between them, she swears the distant sparkles in the night sky grow just a bit brighter.
Tonight all the stars feel a little closer.
