So, I was on a RWBY fanfic binge, and I noticed that there was a fanfic called The Arc House, which had Summer marry Jaune's father, making Ruby and Jaune siblings. So I wanted to do a story where the same concept was used, but with a different member of the RWBY team. This will have an AU as the things I am planning for the future of the story will go extremely different.
Well, let's go.
(Bullhead)
"This is the best day ever!" Yang said as she forcefully rubbed the head of her younger sister. While she had expected to meet her at Beacon two years later, given their age, she was pleasantly surprised to know that her sister would be attending at the same time as her. How did she get in?
Well, Ruby, her sister, had stopped a Dust robbery and that was enough to impress Ozpin, who had offered her a spot in the prestigious school. While it was a good news, it was a bit hard to explain to their father that he had to pick up his second daughter from jail. It was thanks to Glynda Goodwitch that the damage wasn't that bad, allowing Ruby to go back home with nothing but a slap on her wrist. Speaking of Glynda, Yang was glad that she was present in Beacon as she knew the Huntress would be impartial. She didn't want any advantages due to her family.
Her uncle, Qrow Goodwitch, nee Branwen, had met her at Beacon and hit it off. Normally, it was the woman in the relationship taking the last name of her husband, but he had said something along the lines of 'the world having too many Branwens' and left it at that. The two also had a daughter, Sparrow Goodwitch. She was only thirteen years old, but was already showing a great deal of interest in being a doctor. The dream was also amplified with her parents training her which allowed her to access her Aura and her Semblance, Medical Healing, which allowed her to heal the patient using her own aura.
Anyways, when Taiyang, their dad, was called, he was surprised on seeing that it was Ruby who had to be bailed out of jail, rather than Yang, something which he made quite heard throughout the day. "I half expected it was Yang who needed my help." He said with a laugh.
Yang had grumbled all day. She wasn't that bad. Since it was Glynda who had encountered Ruby after her fight, so the charges didn't stick.
"C'mon Yang, stop it." Ruby Rose groaned. Sure she was glad that she was going to Beacon early, but Yang was there to ruin that moment of satisfaction. It wasn't that that she hated her sister, she loved her dearly. But she did have a habit of being extremely overbearing. Yang still thought of her as a little kid despite being fifteen. And it wasn't like she was going to be a child forever, she drank her milk. After some tries, she was finally free from the clutches of her sister as she tried to fix her hair. "Man, it took me hours to get my hair right." She moaned.
"Would you say it took you…" Yang started as Ruby winced as she knew what was coming next, "Xaio-Long to fix your hair?"
"Damn it Yang." Ruby said, prompting Yang to let out a laugh.
She had the habit of making puns constantly, something that their dad had. However, unlike their father, Yang wasn't that good at making puns, so that often left her groaning at her Oum awful puns.
She looked to her left and saw another Beacon hopeful. He was a blonde, having a white sword and a shield. She wondered what types of other weapon it shifted into. Was it also a gun like her weapon? She really wanted to go and ask him, but she was really socially awkward, so it was a real problem. She was a weapons nut, wanted to ask people about their weapons, but felt awkward even talking to anyone else not named Yang, Taiyang, Qrow, Glynda and Sparrow. Not her fault when everyone treated her like a little kid and did whatever she wanted to do.
"So, you ready to make a ton of new friends?" She asked.
"Why do need friends when I have you, Yang?" Ruby replied.
Yang's eyes softened as she hugged her little sister, "Oh Ruby," She said as she squeezed her, "You do have to make friends, otherwise you'd be alone."
"Yaaaaaaang." Ruby groaned as her older sister reduced her grip.
"So, I see a couple of my friends, gonna leave the friend making to you, Rubes." Yang said as she left the younger member of the Xiao-Long family alone, moving in such speeds that she was left spinning.
"Yaaaaaang!" Ruby said as she tried to balance herself, only to end up falling onto the ground. "Man this sucks." She said to herself, not paying any attention to the people around her. She always did this. One moment she'd be all mushy mushy with her, and then the next moment, she'd ditch her to hang out with her friends, ruining any momentum the two had going.
It was easy for Yang to make friends since the blond was out going and boisterous. She was the life of the party, always bringing the fun with her wherever she went. Ruby, on the other hand, was the shy one of the family. Wherever Ruby went, Yang was sure to follow, to make sure that no one was bothering her. Though while it had good intentions, it caused a long term damage as Ruby wasn't able to start or continue a conversation if it didn't include weapons. Yang would usually start the conversation when they were kids, and that often derailed to them making plans with her rather than the plain ol' Ruby.
She understood. Why would anyone want to be friends with the little dork when they had the cooler big sister. Heck, half of the friend group Yang saw and ditch her for was made up of people she was supposed to be friends with.
She felt tears come up in her eyes as she felt weak again. It was always like this; Yang would instil confidence in her, and then ditch her the very next moment. She felt tears begin to form in her eyes, blurring her vision slightly. A few of them did threaten to spill, "Oh Oum, I am hopeless." She sniffled. Why would anyone want to be friends with a crybaby. She remembered when she tried to make friends on her own after Yang had made plans with someone else, again, and they had promptly rejected her.
She suddenly felt someone trip on her leg. "Oh, I am sorry." She said as she stood up. She didn't wanted to make a bad impression on her first day. Wait scratch that. It wasn't even their first day.
She noticed the mess around her. Vials spilling around, some of them threatening to fall out of a white luggage. Besides them, a white haired girl was also starting to stand up. She had ice blue eyes and was a bit shorter than her. "Sorry about that, didn't see you there." She said as she stood up, dusting herself. "Hello there," She said as she lifted her hand, expecting a handshake.
"Huh?" Ruby yipped as she stared at the hand in front of her.
The girl raised an eyebrow at her confused expression, "You do realize it's rude to leave a hand unshaken, do you?"
"Oh, uh, sorry." The young girl said as she promptly began to shake the offered hand with such speed that one could assume that vibrating was her passive state. On seeing the state of the white haired girl, Ruby promptly let go of her, "Sorry about that. I get really excited really quickly." She tried to explain.
Getting her bearings right, the girl chuckled, "Well, this is perhaps one of the most memorable handshake I have ever received." She then crouched down to gather her belongings, which made Ruby help her as well.
"So what was the reason a cute girl like you was on the ground?" The girl asked, which made Ruby's tail stand on its edge.
Yes, Ruby Rose was a dog faunus, more specifically a German Shephard. Her mother was one, so it wasn't a shock when she was one as well. The island of Patch was relatively Faunus friendly, but other areas on Remnant still did receive discrimination.
Back to the question at hand, "Well, my sister ditched me for her friends, and left me alone." She answered, "She wanted me to make friends, so she ran away." 'Like usual.' She added in her mind.
Soon everything was gathered and the two were now standing. "So, wanna walk with me?" The white haired girl asked.
"Huh, me?" Ruby asked in return. Most of the time, people would just have a chat until they had the option to do anything else. This was a first. Perhaps she could be her first friend. 'Don't get your hopes up.' Ruby thought to herself.
"Of course you, you dolt." She chuckled. "I do want to make friends at Beacon." On hearing this, Ruby's eyes widened as her heart began to beat faster and her tail began to wag at such speed that she could have propelled herself in the air.
At breakneck speeds, Ruby moved forward and hugged the white haired girl. The girl could do nothing but 'eep' at the sudden affection she was receiving.
After a while, Ruby realized what she was doing and promptly released her, "Sorry about that, I get really excited when people want to be my friend." She tried to explain. 'That would be the truth if people did want to be my friend.' She mused. Plenty of her so-called friends only extended the branch of friendship to be friends with Yang, the cooler older sister of the Xiao-Long household.
"Anyways, I am Ruby, Ruby Rose." She said, hoping she hadn't destroyed her chances of a friend with her hug.
The white haired girl chuckled, "Oh, this is so adorable." She said, raising Ruby's hope. "You're like a cute little puppy."
This surprised Ruby a bit. Did this girl know that she was a faunus? "Regardless, my name is Weiss, Weiss Arc-Schnee." She said and this actually shocked Ruby.
In front of her was a child of the popular Arc-Schnee family. From what she remembered, the unification of the two houses was a win for Faunus as the family was the reason why racism against Faunuskind had gone down drastically. She heard that the Schnee Dust Company also offered internship and fundings for Faunus kids to give them a better education.
Many small but successful businesses in Patch had opened that were the result of the help Schnee Dust Company did.
"Hello, Remnant to Ruby?" Weiss asked as she waved her hand infront of her eyes, snapping, "You there?"
"Oh yeah, sorry. Got lost in my thoughts." Ruby explained. "Just surprised that the heiress of the SDC wants to be friends with me." She mumbled out, something which Weiss heard.
"There there." She said as she tried to pat Ruby's head, but alas, it was covered by her hood. "No need to worry, I'll be your best friend." She told the girl who now had a huge smile on her face.
"REALLY!" Ruby yelled out, ignoring the attention she was getting from the people around her.
"Really." Weiss replied. Soon the bullhead landed and the two got off. Ruby's tail was wagging all the way, she knew that this was the friendship she always wanted, the friendship she was denied in her childhood.
(Beacon)
The younger of the two awed as she stared around, her eyes wandering all around as she took in the sights. Beacon was beautiful. Nothing like she had ever imagined. It was big. Sure ever other major Hunter academy was big, like the one in Atlas or Mistral, but Beacon held a sort of charm she never expected. Like it was inviting. Unbeknownst to her, that was the main reason why many students from all around the world applied to Beacon.
"So, what's your weapon?" Ruby asked shyly. Sure she was a weapons nut and was trying to limit how much she showed, she was still curious about the weapon her new bestie had.
Weiss smiled as she stopped her luggage and then brought out her weapon, "This here is my beloved weapon, Myrtenaster." She exclaimed with pride as her weapon gleamed in the sunlight.
"Oooooh, what does it do?" Ruby started, "Is it a mechashift? Does it turn into a gun? What's special about it?" She asked before she realized she was doing it again. She reeled herself back as she gave a cheeky grin and scratched the back of her head.
"Well, Mytenaster isn't a mechashift weapon, it stays as a rapier. So, no guns for me." She started, "However, the lack of ranged weapon does not limit me in anyway as it allows me to use my semblance in conjugation with the dust which are in the chambers here." She said as she pointed to the rotating chambers that were present at the hilt.
Ruby gasped at the masterpiece that was present in front of her. "That's amazing." She said as she pulled out her weapon, "This here's my Crescent Rose." Ruby said as the scythe. "I based it on the weapon my Uncle has." She said with pride, "However, instead of a shotgun, mine is a sniper."
Weiss was in awe of the weapon. She had seen a few scythe users, and they were usually bulky, but this girl here was able to use a scythe with ease despite her stature. "Don't you get any issues using this?" She asked. Along with having a requirement of being bulky, scythe also required the users to have years of experience, sometimes decades. It was one of the harder weapons to master, and if one wasn't careful, they were at risk of disarming themselves.
"Well, I did have issues when I was starting, but my Uncle, Uncle Qrow, taught me how to to use it more effectively." She said as Weiss nodded. She knew the person her new friend was referring, albeit indirectly. After all, her sister did work with him on occasion. "He's the reason I can use it more effectively. I can even use the sniper mode to help me reach places I couldn't reach."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, I can use the recoil to launch myself off the ground and I can continue to do that until the clip is empty." Ruby explained as the tow sheathed their weapons and started to walk towards the main hall of Beacon. "I can change the direction as well."
Weiss clapped her hand as she smiled, "My, that's amazing." She complimented her, "I assume that you found this on your own." Weiss wondered.
Ruby nodded at that, "Yeah, I noticed that the recoil was really big, and even though I trained my body to withstand it, it did effect me when I shot while I was in the air." She explained.
"~Ara ara~, it's a blessing that my friend is smart." Weiss said as Ruby blushed under the praise. She had gotten similar praises from her uncle, sister and father, but none of them could even compare to the one Weiss said. It felt real, not that the ones her family said felt fake, but hearing it from someone who wasn't related to her in anyway felt genuine.
Tears in her eyes, she rubbed them, wanting to not look like a crybaby. "Sorry about that, had some dust in my eyes." She said, trying to not seem childish.
Immediately she was pulled into a hug, "Huh." She squeaked out, not being the one to initiate the hug for once.
"There there." Weiss said as she patted her back, "Let it out, it will be okay." She cooed, making Ruby feel appreciated. Her family had always tried to make Ruby stop crying whenever she felt down, but this girl here, Weiss, was making sure her emotions were true, they weren't something to be disregarded because she was feeling sad.
She left out a few sniffles before she let herself go, "Thanks for that Weiss." She said with a smile, "I am really glad you're my first friend." She said which prompted Weiss to look at her in shock.
"I'm your first friend?" She asked, and was shocked to receive a sad nod, "Well, have no fear Ruby, I am sure my little brother would love to be your friend as well."
"Your brother?" She asked, with a little excitement in her voice, "Did he get into Beacon early as well?" She asked.
"Well, he isn't that young, I was born five minutes earlier than him, so he's my wittle baby bwother." She said as she laughed a bit. It was then when Ruby's words registered in her head, "Wait, you got into Beacon early?"
Ruby nodded, "B-b-but I am capable of fending for myself!" She started, not wanting to look like a kid in front of her new friend, "I can fight!" She said as she brought out her scythe and spun it around with one hand before posing with it. She then realized that perhaps her action did make her look like a kid.
Despite all this, Weiss did nothing but smile, "~Ara ara~, it seems like I'm in the presence of a prodigy." She looked over to the young girl who blushed with praise, "Ruby, if we get into the same team, and I hope we do, I'd gladly follow you if you do get made leader."
"Really?" Ruby said, awestruck.
Weiss nodded, "Yes, I'd be a fool to not recognize the skill you have. Not everyone can come to Beacon early. In fact, I think you're the youngest entry ever." She praised her.
Ruby blushed again as the two continued to walk towards the main hall of Beacon
Elsewhere in the same Academy, a pair of ember eyes stalked someone. The owner of those eyes looked patiently as the subject of interest looked around, taking in the sights. Her short black hair barely reached the bottom of her neck as the cat ears on the top of her head twitched.
The target had blonde long hair, reaching the shoulders, though it was wrapped in a wolf-tail. The target wore a black hoodie with some armour on top, blue jeans as well. The target was equipped with a sword and a shield that doubled as the sheath as well.
She stalked her prey, getting closer and closer, not making a single sound. The wind blew against her, masking any scent she made. She knew she had one chance, one opportunity, one moment, to get everything she ever wanted, she wouldn't let it slip.
With a leap, she pounced her target as she squealed as she glomped him from behind, "Jaune, I found you."
"AAAAHHH!" The target, Jaune Arc-Schnee, yelled as he fell to the ground due to the suddent shift in momentum and the added weight on his back. Once he got his bearings right, he looked at his 'attacker', "Blake, how many time have I told you not to do that?" He asked.
"Too many times." She replied cheekily. "But I don't care, how long have it been since we last met?" She asked as the two got up.
"We talked last night." Jaune replied.
"Yes, we talked on the scroll." Blake answered back with snark, "We haven't met up ever since Adam's graduation."
Jaune chuckled as he hugged his sister-from-another-mister-and-mother tightly and looked around, "So, this is it, Beacon." He said.
Blake nodded, "Yup, we're finally here." She looked at the gleaming building, "Never imagine the day would come so soon."
The two stared at it for a little bit longer, but they knew that their destinies awaited them inside.
So, I had this idea after reading The Arc House, where Ruby is Jaune's sister and the two start Beacon at the same time with Joan, Jaune's twin. This fanfic has Weiss and Jaune be siblings, fraternal twins, as they face the challenges laid in Beacon and life together, perhaps with some new friends as well.
