(AN: I'm back after a long wait? How shocking! No, work didn't keep me busy this time even if I have been super tired lately, the long wait this time (and my excuse lol) is that since the release of the last chapter, I've been busy primarily archiving a mobile game for a series I really like (Arc the Lad R if you must know), I've spent a LOT of time attempting to back up as much as possible and while the game isn't KINDA sorta shut down like I feared, I still thought it best to archive everything in the end but well, it ended up taking time away from writing. Hopefully, I don't think I should have as many huge interruptions.

Now, before we begin, I do wanna preface this: I mentioned last chapter that this is the chapter where we were gonna have something HUGE happen, like big things were gonna happen.

Yeah... well, change of plans.

When I got back to writing this chapter, I realized that I thought not only was the chapter not going to be long, but it was going to have a... very strange tonal shift. Like, this chapter has a LOTTTT of fluff, and I don't think it's bad or anything, but having it contrast with what I had planned originally for this chapter? It would have felt BEYOND weird. Like, sometimes it's okay to just... not have someone in this story be a total dick for one chapter for lack of a better word lol, but also as I continued writing it, it got long soo... oops!

Don't worry, I PROMISE the big huge stuff I promised last chapter, it WILL happen next chapter, and I'll try to get it out sooner so it's not a huge cliffhanger, you have my word on that.

With that out of the way, let's all celebrate Christmas in July and continue on with the story! And remember, lemme know what you thought as usual! One more thing, thanks for not just 10k views, but thanks for sticking around as Transfer: Re-Enrolled hit its 1 year anniversary since the last hiatus! I'm super glad you all are still reading and still sticking around! Don't worry, I hope to finally finish this story soon if I can focus more!)

The wind and snow from the mountains of Northern Mobius blew into the Historic District almost overnight, white sheets covering the minkas, dojos, shrines and pagodas of Genshu, alongside the main temple: the Temple of Meetings. Within the temple, Brides of the Conquering Storm and Rich Nights sat around their usual Chabudai, waiting for Constant Vigil and Endless Reach to arrive for their meeting. While there were multiple things to discuss on the agenda, one big one loomed over the two…

"Tell me, Rich Nights…" Conquering Storm said. "Does your Crystal Ball say anything about Espio-kun's future?"

"His future?" the bat replied, turning her head.

"You know what I mean. While we're waiting for Constant Vigil and Endless Reach, I must confide in you something. I'm getting very concerned that when Espio-kun returns to Gojo, he'll have been so corrupted by what he's seen in the Outside World that he'll refuse to become a suitor."

"I don't see why he would resist fate. After all, it's only natural that all the men of the Shinobi clan dojo, as with our own clans, would have one to call their wife."

"You've seen the Outside World yourself, Rich Nights. Look at what they display in that putrid world, their idea of how to treat commitments such as matrimony and self-ideals. We cannot let that consume Espio-kun the longer he stays in that world."

"How can he possibly understand it if he still doesn't properly know their language?"

"He may not know the language, but the seeds of resistance are planted once he sees how the people of that world act. I say that Constant Vigil bring him home for New Year's at least. Not only am I sure he wouldn't like to miss it, as he did with Obon, reminding him about our way of life is the best way to refresh his mind from how damaged the world that school he went to must be."

"What does this have to do with my Crystal Ball, however?"

"I must ask you to look into the future and determine whether or not Espio-kun does what he's told. Not just by my accord, but the accord of Constant Vigil herself. That his mind is pure, that he'll refuse to enter the Outside World again, then marry someone from one of our villages or from Gojo, and start a family as he begins to rule alongside his mother. I've already begun to find many virgins from Hironotsuka his age, and once he returns, I'd like to see which is the best for him personally."

"Specifically virgins?"

"The men of our villages are free to marry any woman they please, but for us of the Clan houses, especially one of royal blood like Espio-kun, he must only have the best of the best. Now, look into the Crystal Ball and tell me what it says!"

Bride of the Rich Nights huffed before looking down at the Crystal Ball she had in front of her as she put her hands over it, closing her eyes as the ball began to fog up as a dull, blight light glowed around it. Conquering Storm could only watch as the ball began to glow, waiting for a response from the bat. Her answer was the only thing confirming if Espio's exposure to the Outside World could potentially harm the Historic District in the future, and the more she was kept waiting, the more irritated the lynx became. This became evident as two minutes later, Bride of the Rich Nights STILL had her hand on her Crystal Ball.

"What is going on?!" Conquering Storm demanded, only to notice the fog inside the ball turning green and a stern yet confused look on Bride of the Rich Nights' face. She then opened her eyes, a look of confusion on her face.

"What happened? What did you see?"

The bat opened and closed her eyes repeatedly, continuing to look confused. "I… I… don't know how to describe it…"

"What do you mean?"

The bat looked over at the lynx, making her clear confusion evident to the lynx, who was now starting to become concerned herself.

The katana of the samurai within the Temple of Meetings raised as Brides of the Constant Vigil and Endless Reach walked the halls of the temple, heading to where the two other Brides were waiting for them. The two were silent as they continued to walk down the hall, down multiple corridors, and to the main door itself. Opening it, they already saw Bride of the Conquering Storm and Rich Nights at the Chabudai, only to see the two women by the Crystal Ball. They quickly turned their heads towards them before standing up and bowing.

"How honorable is it for us to meet again," Bride of the Conquering Storm said as the chameleon and spider woman returned the bow.

"Likewise," Constant Vigil replied as the two walked to the Chabudai, sitting down in front of the two. "What seems to be the issue? You two seem… conflicted."

"Just some personal issues that Conquering Storm wished to discuss with me privately," Rich Nights replied. "Not to worry though, we have much more pressing issues at hand."

"Such as the suitor period of your son, Constant Vigil," Endless Reach added. "You have already mentioned it to him, correct?"

"He has replied back, mentioning that he understands," Constant Vigil replied. "In the meantime, I am looking for potential women to be soon-to-be wife."

"As we all are, Constant Vigil," Conquering Storm said. "The sooner that Espio-kun's wedding occurs, the sooner that Gojo will return to its glory since your husband's death. And not to mention... taking on the responsibilities of leader alongside you means that Espio-kun will forget about that silly little world he's in right now…"

"Right now, our main focus is to discuss this plan with Espio-kun and to hopefully have him back in Gojo as soon as possible," Rich Nights said. "Myself and Bride of the Conquering Storm were just discussing how it may be a good idea to bring Espio-kun back to Gojo for New Years. Not only will he need to listen to the New Year's bell for purification, it will be the perfect time to introduce him to his potential bride."

"Are there no women in your Dojo who suffice? Our Coming-of-Age ceremony this year was primarily made up of men, not so much women," Endless Reach replied.

"Most of the residents of the Shinobi clan dojo are our guards. Our only woman guard, Liza, is planning to be married before Espio comes back from his school. All of the chameleons of Gojo are those within the Shinobi clan, so my attempt to look for a bride has not gone very well," Constant Vigil replied as one of the servants of the temple came into the room with a tray of cups and hot sake.

"Must it be a chameleon?" Conquering Storm questioned. "I believe that no matter what, we should still look for a bride even if we have to cross-breed the species. I know members of the Shinobi clan have had to do so, Constant Vigil."

"If that is what must be done, then I see no issue with it. Perhaps I simply wish to see our family continue to grow as the sea of powerful chameleons we are."

"A mother's personal wishes, I see… but even a mother must realize when to let go of her own ideals and focus on the future of our lands. I fear for the worst when Espio-kun returns…"

"Still you concern yourself with the idea that my son is a rebel?"

"Our cases of spending time in the Outside World are different because we are only there for limited time. All of Espio-kun's time is devoted to that world, a world that beckons and entices people to stay with whatever… power it has."

"On the topic of power, it may also be a smart idea to discuss what we should do once Espio-kun takes up as your second in command. He shall be the first of the next generation of rulers of the Historic District, and it will be some time before our children, or in Conquering Storm's case, her assistant, as well as your youngest daughter, soon will take our place. What will you do with him first?" Endless Reach asked.

Constant Vigil closed her eyes as the servants finished pouring their sake into the cups, leaving as the chameleon woman soon opened her eyes and grabbed the cup, drinking its contents.

"We shall lead our village to greater heights than before until Shami becomes the next Bride. I believe that he too, should join us here in Genshu for our meetings. Not only will he be a valuable asset, but I have faith in him that the experience he learned in the Outside World of hard work, as well as focus and study, will only work in our favor."

"You seem confident," Rich Nights commented.

"As I've told you all time after time again, my son has no reason to disobey me or my word. Right now, I know that he will be where Valdez-san tells me he is every week, as well as what he writes in his weekly letter. By himself, no influence from the Outside World anywhere around him, and more accurately, focused on his return to Gojo…"

Constant Vigil looked stern as Conquering Storm looked at her, not noticing the look of dissatisfaction on the lynx's face.

"Well, now that we've discussed what we shall do, let us continue trying to find maidens for him for his return before the new year. In the meantime, let's change the subject to something different," said Endless Reach. "I wanted to discuss our level of production and how this oncoming weather might potentially hamper many things due to how unprepared we were…"

MEANWHILE

A large hand shook Espio awake as the clock hit 6am, the chameleon slowly opening his eyes as he saw Vector in his usual winter clothing as he came back from his run.

"Ya know what time it is!" he said, grinning that grin of his. Days ago, he would have melted at the sight of that grin, but now he was starting to feel… embarrassed. It had been a few days since he played that game with Mark and his friends, and the more time he was around Vector, the more awkward, nervous, and… hot he felt just by his mere presence. Still, he hadn't told anyone about what was going on. He wasn't the type to be open about himself, and he wasn't sure who he could trust about what was going on with his body.

Still, Espio tried not to let it get to the best of him as he got out of bed, rubbing his eyes and yawning.

"C'mon, chop chop! Ya know that the second round of the playoffs are soon and we gotta train train train!"

Espio looked over at his friend and smiled, knowing that he was doing his part in making Vector stronger. In fact, it was very much becoming clearer just how strong the crocodile had been getting thanks to not just his solo training, but also the training he did with the chameleon. In the past couple of days, he had been doing many things to push Vector as hard as he could. Ranging from meditating on his shirtless, sweaty back as the crocodile did push-ups, to one training routine involving the two having to be in the snow while the crocodile attempted to look for him as the chameleon used his ninja powers, training both his stamina and his reflexes. It had seemed like all this had helped too, as the quarterback looked more muscled than usual, his forearms more defined, his shirts even seeming like they were a bit smaller on him than usual, and-

There it was again, all these thoughts about Vector. It had only been a couple of days since playing that game with Mark and his friends, and those thoughts never really… went away. If anything, Espio simply tried his best to not think about them, ESPECIALLY if the crocodile was around. Vector thankfully hadn't taken notice, although now he was starting to get concerned that others were starting to notice. Not only were Mark, Norris, Dave, and Hacker waiting for Espio the following Monday morning to see if he was okay, the tapir asked again after their Algebra lecture, leading Espio to worry whether he suspected something.

And what's more, it wasn't JUST Mark… that purple gorilla teammate of Vector's, who wasn't as outspoken as Connery, seemed to look at his direction far more. Unlike Connery, his expression was far less readable, but it still concerned Espio to the core. If other people learned about what he was feeling, least of all Valdez, who would likely report it to the Bride, he wouldn't know WHAT he would do…

Regardless, it was best to not dwell on it. It was time to help Vector with his training after all. With that, the chameleon got out of bed, yawned, and soon gathered a new pair of clothes for after their training.

For the most part, that day's training session was similar to other days that month. Since there was a still a bit more time until Vector's second game (he explained that there were other teams playing, as well as the losers of each round competing against one another for a runner up place), the two were making quick use of their time training. Starting with his warmup of touching his toes, Vector moved onto 4 sets of 15 kick/kick/catches; 2 sets for each leg, then Espio watching over the crocodile as he moved to doing barbell squats with a 160lb barbell, 3 sets of 2 sets of 25 dumbbell step ups, 3 sets of 15 pull ups with weighted equipment on his arms, chest, and legs, alongside a few other workouts he had been doing throughout his December training, all while Espio motivated him from the side, timed him, as well as helped him up and set up any equipment on the machines.

Finishing off with 2 sets of 50 calf raises as his cooldown as the timer on Vector's clock passed an hour, it was time for the final workout of them all: kendo. Unfortunately for Vector, despite his clear improvements on his reaction time, as well as a few instances where he was able to catch Espio off guard, it wasn't enough. Vector lasted almost three minutes until the pipe was forced from his hands, despite this…

"You are d-doing good!" Espio said, smiling as he nodded his head.

"Am I?" asked Vector. "I still ain't knocked that damn…" he took a few deep breaths, tired from how much he had put into his workouts earlier. "…pipe outta yer hand…"

"You are..." Espio put his fingers on his mouth. "How do you say…"

"Gettin' better?"

"Yes, exactly. You are getting be-better!"

"Aw, well thanks, dude," Vector smiling, giving the chameleon one of his usual toothy smiles. Espio returned the smile, feeling a slight warmth in his stomach. The two simply stood in the spare room of the I building, taking in the moment as they were both breathing in heavily from how much they had gotten into their workout. Breaking the silence though…

"Alright, now it's time to get washed up and have some breakfast! Although…" Vector put his thumb to his chin. "…I dun think we can go just yet. I got some homework that's due today a minute before midnight, and practice has kept me so busy and that and these mornin' trainin' sessions have me so beat, I haven't had time to get around to all mah classwork. Mind if ya wait till I finish it up? I'll try and rush it as best as possible. Maybe ya can use that time to do some of yer trainin' back at the dorm?"

It was all a little too much for Espio, with the crocodile still speaking fast as he did, but he nodded, remembering that it was just as important for his friend to do his academic work just like he did his physical training. Not just that, but he HAD been slacking on his training a bit, so maybe it was a good idea to get that and some morning meditation in, least of all now that he felt his heart in his chest starting to pump rapidly and the thoughts of the game with Mark starting to come back.

"Okay," he said, with the two leaving the room and heading towards the shower area.

As the two reptiles returned back to the A building with a hot shower taken care of and fresh clothes on, the two made their way back up the stairs as a few students were now starting to walk the halls of the building. However, thanks to how cold it was, alongside some of the snow that had been falling since sunrise, Espio wasn't looking straight ahead or at Vector, but around him. It was at that moment that he realized that the A building had been looking… different.

"Hm? What's up, Espio?" Vector asked as soon as he realized that the chameleon hadn't been walking next to him. Espio could hear his friend's footsteps as he stared ahead around the east walls of the A building's first floor, looking at all the strange things plastered along the wall. A strange white shaped symbol, grass of some kind with something white on it arranged similar to the roofs of the pagodas of Genshu, another piece of grass, this one circular with all sorts of different items on it, multicolored balls hanging from the ceiling, and a large tree by an area with different places to sit just by it.

Espio turned his head, confused as to why the interior of the building changed to have these things he's never seen before. It had to have been another Outside World thing, but what was it?

"First time seein' yer first proper Christmas decorations, eh?" Vector asked, elbowing his friend softly. Espio looked up at the crocodile.

"Kris.. mas?" he asked. It wasn't the first time he heard the word, as Valdez had mentioned it before he came to his apartment for Thanksgiving break, but was this what it was?

"It's another holiday we celebrate here in Central Mobius, hell, I'd imagine everywhere. It's a holiday where ya get to spend yer time with the ones ya love, enjoyin' time with each other as ya show yer appreciation bein' in their lives by givin' them gifts, enjoying all sorts of Christmas sweets and spoilin' yerself since it's a once a year thing, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. As much as I fuckin' hate the cold… Christmas makes up fer it," Vector explained.

The more Espio was hearing about this 'Krismas', he was getting more excited. Sure, he didn't really know WHAT you did, but this was still nothing like a holiday back home. And these things decorated around the building… it was… pretty…

What caught Espio's attention the most was the tree in the middle. It was decorated with multicolored balls, a strange looking stick that was white and red, some brown shaped thing he couldn't make out, but the thing he awed at the most was the light. Reds, greens, purples, oranges, so many colors as far as the eye could see. Below the tree he saw multiple crates that seemed to also be multicolored as well. He hadn't seen any like those before in his life though…

"Heh, I'll give ya a minute to letcha awe. I gotta head back to the dorm and do those assignments. Then we'll go eat, okay?"

Espio nodded as Vector headed towards the stairs on his way to West Hall. Turning around, the chameleon stared at the decorations some more. He was still trying to process everything he was looking at, and even as multiple people passed by him, he still continued to stare at the small display of Christmas decorations in front of him.

"Espio-kun? You're up very early," a sudden voice said. Espio turned to see Valdez walking up towards him, a multitude of things in his hands.

"Ah, Valdez-san, good morning," the transfer student replied as he bowed.

"Were you staring at the Christmas decorations? No wonder, it's probably your first time getting a look at them. They're a sight to behold, but wait until the campus installs the lights around every building on campus. THEN things get prettier. They've just only started installing stuff around the interior of the buildings and in our offices, but I hear soon they're going to install the massive tree in front of North Hall, as well as the lights on every tree on campus. It's a sight to behold."

"Valdez-san… you mentioned this Christmas… but what is it? Vector tried to explain it to me… but I didn't understand too much."

"Christmas? Well, it took me a while to understand too when I first arrived to Central Mobius. For me, I like to see Christmas as a holiday similar to New Years back in Gojo. You get to be around those you love, you enjoy a nice feast, and the little ones get presents. Of course, on Christmas, EVERYONE gets a present, so no one gets left out. And that's just a small part of it. There's the different kinds of foods they serve around Christmas, special occasions, and even cultural things you would have never seen back in Gojo. Frankly, it's a little too hard for me to explain quickly. But do you understand?"

"Y-Yes… I think I understand… you said, present? As in-"

"No no, not in that context. You give wrapped presents to others on occasions outside of someone's passing here in Central Mobius."

"Ah… I see… Valdez-san… I… I want to give a present to Vector."

Espio however, wanted to slam his tongue back into his mouth. He told himself he wasn't going to make himself too revealing about what was going on with Vector around Valdez, and guess what the FIRST thing he did was…

"A present you say? Interesting… what do you think he'd like?"

Espio thought about it for a couple of seconds. "Well… perhaps something football related or… or… music?"

"Give it some thought. I'm sure you can get him a good gift. I'd love to help you pick out one, but it'll be debateable if I have extra money. My finances have been in ruin thanks to all the debt paying back I've done not just for your bail, but also for your attorney for your trial in January. You haven't forgotten that, have you?"

The mood suddenly changed as Espio hung his head, realizing that he had been doing so much in his time on campus, he had COMPLETELY forgotten about that.

"Don't worry, it'll be okay, Espio-kun. The headmaster referred me to a really good attorney, although he did cost me a fair bit," Valdez sighed. "I'll be paying it off for quite some time, likely after you return back to Gojo…"

Espio frowned, not only feeling bad for his family's friend, but remembering what was going to happen once he returned to Gojo.

"B-But, I don't want to be too negative this morning. I came in a lot later than I would have liked, it snowed a lot on Sunday in Northern Mobius, and I couldn't come back until today. I'm sorry that I wasn't here, Espio-kun. I've been trying my best to get home, but now I have to do some work before I head with you to Creative Drawing. Here's your mother's letter," Valdez handed him Bride of the Constant Vigil's weekly scroll. "And with that, I should be on my way. Oh, and by the by, as we continue to go through this month, I'll need to talk to you about what classes you'll be taking for next semester."

"I understand. I'll see you later."

Espio bowed as Valdez headed towards the back exit of the A building to head to the J building: the Students Services center where the offices of all non-instructor and athletics staff was. With his mother's scroll in his hands, he was about to turn around until he realized something.

"Valdez-san!" he called out, with the blue chameleon turning around before he could open the door. Espio ran up to Valdez.

"Did you get the Omamori?" he asked. Valdez simply looked at Espio, his eyes widened before…

"Damn…" Valdez replied. "I'm so very sorry, Espio-kun. It was such a hassle to reach Gojo because of the snow, but not only that, when I delivered my letter, I was told that there was no letter to give at the moment as the Bride was out of the Gojo and at Genshu and to come back when she returned, so that's why I went the next day to retrieve it and spent all of Monday attempting to return to Central Mobius."

"Genshu? Why is Mother and the Brides meeting there? It feels too early before the next meeting."

"I wasn't told why… but I do think it's a little strange too… Regardless, I PROMISE that by next Monday, I'll have the Omamori for you."

With that, Valdez turned around and walked out of the A building, leaving Espio behind. The chameleon was disappointed that he couldn't get the Omamori to Vector, especially since he wasn't sure when the next game was. As he held his mother's scroll in his hands, walking back to West Hall, Espio closed his eyes and held his hands together.

"Please, whichever of the Seven Lucky Gods can hear me right now… bless Vector and his team with your power…" he prayed mentally.

DAYS PASS…

…and much of Vector and Espio's daily routine stayed much of the same. Vector would wake up, drink his morning carrot juice and stretch before running, then wake up Espio for early morning training, eat breakfast then go to class until they were all over, then do some English studying before an early dinner prior to Vector leaving to practice 20 minutes before 6, then Valdez came over to not only help Espio study for his midterms and any final exams, but also to take him to the city for his final project in Creative Drawing. Much of this routine didn't change, and it felt like all their time was committed to their assignments, or in Vector's case, football added to that. There would even be times where they were so busy in finishing the piles of remaining homework, even on Sundays, that Vector would order a part pepperoni and cheese pizza for him and Espio for lunch and dinner.

There were some moments that did change up the monotony. The first night that all the decorations around campus were lit, almost all the students watched from either the coziness of their dorms, the windows from the A building, or crazier enough, stepped outside into the cold. Vector and Espio got the privilege of watching the lights on the front part of the campus be lit, and the chameleon simply awed as he watched the multicolored lights turn on, gasping audibly as Vector smiled at how cute his friend was being.

"A beauty, ain't it?" he asked as Espio simply pressed his face and hands against the foggy glass. "I know some people are pessimistic 'bout the holidays, and right now a lot is real tough. Hell, I'm still achin' from practice, and it's a miracle I got back early enough to see the lights bein' lit up… but it's worth it. Stuff like this reminds me why I love this time of year… Which reminds me, I gotta see when Knux and Mighty are free to go Christmas shoppin'. Mighty might have a bit more free time since his season doesn't end 'till the end of January, but Knux and I really need to find a good date…"

Espio didn't respond, simply continuing to appreciate the beauty of a sight he had never seen before.

There was also the time leading up the final project in Creative Drawing before the art show, which Espio learned was going to be in the evening on the 23rd of the month. Thanks to Valdez taking a picture of the scenery, Espio was able to finish up all the linework in person and with permission from Professor D' Coolette, he was able to begin the coloring process in class due to how much being in the cold was starting to physically hurt the two chameleons, especially Valdez.

"Hey, that looks really good, Espio!" Jewel said as she looked over Espio's painting. It felt so weird hearing her compliment his work, as months ago, she would have absolutely torn it apart with no care. But seeing her say nice things about it… "Honestly, you could be a really good environmental artist! Your linework for these buildings and their detail, and… and your coloring as well! You have a talent for that!"

Comments like these made Espio smile, and it encouraged him to work harder. But it wasn't Jewel giving compliments either, the chameleon looked at what the beetle was drawing; a drawing of a stone Overlander woman from the back, her flowing hair to the left of the canvas as she hugged herself. Espio thought it looked very good, especially since the woman really did seem like she was made of stone.

"That is good!" he said.

"Aw, thanks! I cannot wait for the art show, Professor D' Coolette's inviting not only some people from the university he worked at back in Spagonia years back, but he's inviting a lot of his art critic friends, some of which have REALLY good connections with art gallery owners, so maybe we might be scouted out! Ooh, I'm super excited! Art isn't what I'm majoring in, but it's such a huge interest of mine, and even just the fact that we're going to be displaying our works at the Museum of Arty Art is just invigorating! I've been a few times to the museum and the pieces are so inspiring! They have stuff like art found from ancient civilizations, to all different kinds of modern art pieces, I think they might even have a few stuff from Northern Mobius too-"

"Jewel, I understand that you're very passionate about the upcoming art show, and I'm happy that you're sharing your excitement with Espio…" Valdez said, looking up from the work he was doing on his tablet. "But I think it's important that you two don't waste any time and not slack off."

Jewel looked back at the blue chameleon sheepishly. "Y-Yes… sorry, Mr. Valdez…"

She turned around back to her canvas, but then gave Espio one final look. "Keep up the great work, okay?"

And then there was after Creative Drawing, when the two chameleons were walking to Espio's ESOL lesson, and Valdez reached over Espio's shoulder.

"You remember how your mother mentioned in your letter that she wanted you to come back to Gojo for New Year's? I just got in contact with your attorney last night and asked if officials would allow you to leave the country for family obligations despite your pending charges. She said that she'll try and see if the officials proceeding your case would allow it to the best of his possibilities, and she's certain that you will be able to go," he said. "That means we'll likely be able to return to Gojo."

Espio smiled, happy that he was able to return to see his family, the village, and life back at the place he called home even if it was for a couple of days. Plus, the New Years bell in Genshu would hopefully wash away all the bad parts of his time at Mobius U, and perhaps his year would get better. Of course, there was still the case of his suitor period… but he tried his best not to let it get to him, as getting to return mattered more than anything, even if it meant being away from Vector.

Moments like these made everything all the better, and eventually, it was soon time for the second game of the Central Mobius Winter College Football Playoffs on the 13th, with Mobius U's game leading the first match of the winners of the first round against the Grand Metropolis U Mechanics. Unfortunately, the date of the game fell before Valdez's return to Gojo to not just deliver his mother's next message, but also the Omomori's he promised him. Worst of all, it was yet ANOTHER away game, and Valdez too was busy that night and expected Espioto study and work on any remaining projects and assignments he had before his exams begin. Espio's complaints fell on deaf ears, and he was stuck at the ST building computer lab with Valdez on the day of Vector's game, working on his final project for Environmental Studies I.

"Okay, I'll cut you a deal. You can return to the dorm after you finish another hour of work here. I have to leave on guard duty in twenty eight minutes, so when your time is up, you can return to the dorm. However-"

"Make sure I'm studying, I know…" Espio replied.

"Good. Look, I'm very sorry I'm being strict, I just don't want the Bride to be upset at either of us if your performance isn't top quality. You know how she is, Espio-kun."

"I know… but I won't even get to say goodbye to Vector before his game… and… and… and I still haven't gotten to see one of his games."

Valdez looked down at the chameleon and sighed. "I'll tell you what. Since this week, many of your projects are due before either a midterm or final exam or final project are due, if I see that you're getting very good grades on them, I'll reward you."

"Reward?"

"When is the date of Vector's next game?"

"I… don't know…"

"Well, regardless I'll talk to him about it. Whatever the case, if you can achieve high grades on the work you're turning in this week, I promise I'll take you to Vector's next game."

Espio quickly turned his head towards Valdez, somehow not hurting himself due to whiplash. "D-Do you mean it, Valdez-san?!"

The blue chameleon nodded. "I promise I will. Just show me that you're going to put a lot of effort into your work and that it'll pay off, okay?"

Espio almost felt like crying. Finally after SO long, he was FINALLY going to see his first away game, and more importantly, he was going to see Vector win in what will likely be the biggest football game he's even seen. Espio quickly got up from his chair and stared at Valdez, hands and feet together.

"Valdez-san…" he said before bowing in a perfect 90 degree angle. "Thank you very much!"

"Don't you want to prove to me first that you can do it? Don't get distracted now, remember: amazing marks."

"Yes!"

That was all the motivation Espio needed to get back on his chair and continue working on his final project.

It wasn't until a quarter until 7 that Espio returned back to the dorm. Despite his insistence that he was going to study, part of Espio simply wanted to get on the floor and turn the TV on to watch the game. After all, he missed most of the first game due to the game he played with Mark, he wasn't going to miss this one for his LIFE.

But then he thought back to his deal with Valdez. He NEEDED to study if it meant going to see Vector's next game. But what if he lost this game because he didn't have the Omomori on him?

Espio shook his head. "Stop that, Espio," he said. "I'm sure Vector will be fine."

With that, Espio opened up his Psychology textbook and began to look at the Chapter 12 Review Questions, trying his best to ignore the TV to the right of his peripheral vision as he proceeded to get out his study guide.

The entire room was silent as in between Espio reading all the long passages, he kept looking back at the TV. The game must have started by now, and he still didn't know if Vector was going to lose or not. He tried his best to turn his eyes at the book, but the more he did, the longer he would look at the TV.

"Stop… please… stop…" he thought to himself, now starting to shake as he looked at the TV. Everything he was taught about self-control back in Gojo felt like it was being thrown out of the window. After all, for other things, he knew to hold himself back. For Vector? That was another story…

"Valdez-san, I'm sorry!" Espio said as he got up from the chair, turning on the TV as he scrolled through all the channels to find MSE and turned the volume down just in case Valdez happened to come by. With him stopping once he found the correct channel, Espio got on his knees as the game soon displayed on screen, showing Connery running with the football in one hand and his free hand outstretched as he collided into the other team's defense, lucky enough to get away and to still continue running without being fouled. As the horse continued to run towards the goal, he threw it over to his left, passing the ball to-

"V-Vector!" Espio said, seeing his friend's tail swish up and down as he grabbed the ball and made a rush towards the end zone, and despite a group of players from the other team moving their attention from Connery to Vector, it was too late as the crocodile had touched the end zone, throwing the ball onto the ground as he made a touchdown and ran back to his fellow players. Espio could only smile and hold his hands together as he watched the expression of pure bliss and joy on Vector's face.

Quickly getting up before the game continued, Espio rushed over to the dresser drawer and knew there was only one thing he could do to show his support from the dorm. Grabbing the shirt Manic had given him almost a week ago, he put it over himself due to not wanting to take off his haori and risk either getting it dirty or wrinkling it for a small bit of time. Getting his horn out of the shirt and seeing that it wasn't ripped, the chameleon grabbed onto the shirt with his fingers, feeling the less silky cloth compared to most of his clothes, which didn't matter to him as long as it showed just how much he loved the Badniks, and more important, how much Vector meant to him when he was out there on the field having the time of his life. Tail curling from excitement, he got back on his knees, watching and celebrating every time the Badniks scores, while making sure he wasn't TOO loud just in case Valdez came by. Thankfully, the entire game, he didn't, and with only six minutes on the clock until the second half, the Badniks was at a steady score of 33, with Home being at 18. As long as they kept their score up…

11:04 P.M.

Espio looked over his remaining study material, homework, as well as textbooks, to make sure that he had finished everything so far that he needed to. Looking at the notepad kept on the desk, the chameleon grabbed his pen, and then…

Sighing, Espio stood straight back up on his chair, proud of all the work he had gotten done since the game ended about two hours ago. There was still English to do, but he and Vector didn't have a one on one lesson due to how busy the crocodile was with the game, which he figured could be done tomorrow.

With his homework done and notes and books studied for upcoming examinations, the chameleon wondered what there was to do now. Should he stay up and wait for Vector? Maybe it was a good idea to look back at his English notes again? Or maybe-

That's when Espio began to hear a sleuth of voices and footsteps from outside the window. The chameleon turned to the window and got up from the chair, looking out to see several dozen members of the Badniks returning to campus thanks to the Christmas lights. Gasping, realizing that this meant Vector had returned, and the chameleon wanted to be the first to greet him back and wish him a congratulations for winning tonight's game. With his Badniks shirt still on, the chameleon left behind his books and notes and ran out of the dorm, happy at the thought of seeing his best friend again. Running down West Hall, opening the door connecting the hall to the A building, he quickly ran from the third floor down the steps and around to the second floor, his geta clacking with each step he climbed down. It only took him until reaching the steps to the first floor where Espio stopped, seeing a few familiar figures coming up the steps: Knuckles, Connery, Brawny, Bull Bones, some other members of the team he didn't recognize, and-

"Vector…" Espio said, seeing his friend. "Co-Congrach... no… tulations? Congratulations?"

The group all looked up at the chameleon.

"Oh come on, don't say that like you're not sure!" Knuckles replied. "Say it with a little more gusto, Espio!"

"C-Congratulations!"

"Heyy, there we go!" Vector clicked his tongue, pointing his fingers in a strange way at him as he walked up the stairs. Espio noticed a jacket on him and everyone else that wasn't there earlier today…

"What is… that?" Espio asked, pointing at the light blue and white jacket Vector and the others had on. He could notice that the Badniks' logo was on it, with a different number on each person's jacket (in the quarterback's case, his had a 5 on it).

"This? Heh, knew yeh'd like it! It's our letterman jackets! Coach told us that we were only gonna receive these if we made it to the semifinals, otherwise he wouldda made us all throw them in one pile and watch them burn! Spooky he can get with his threats, huh? But we didn't lose! We're headin' to that semifinals and we're gonna win this time! Don't they look great? He got 'em custom made and everything! Now we really look like big men on campus, eh?"

Espio nodded, thinking that it not only complimented the members of the team, but on Vector especially, it made him look not just important, it… it made him look amazing. The chameleon could see how much the crocodile was beaming as he wore it, and it made him happy to see his friend enjoy it so much.

The two spent some time talking, catching up with the game as the rest of the team joined in, crowding around Espio and Vector as the crocodile and chameleon chatted, nodding and smiling as they looked at one another, the quarterback showing off Espio's shirt to his friends and talking about how their biggest fan was cheering from the dorm…

Vector's friends, except one person.

From the stairs to the first floor, Connery stared up at his team, at Vector… and Espio. His eyes lowering to a scowl as he stared specifically at the two reptiles, watching them with intensity as they continued to talk, an almost star like gaze in the transfer student's eyes.

Unfortunately, with the Badniks' game being the first game of the second round, there was a lot of waiting to be done in between the other teams playing their games as well as the losing teams playing runner up rounds. In this time, Vector was getting busier, not just with training and practice, but also with schoolwork as well, which is where he was using most of his time throughout the next couple of days. In between getting up early for training and getting back to the dorm late from practice, Vector and Espio also used time in between classes to study (which Espio was getting on Vector's case for, just like Coach Augustus wanted him to).

Many afternoons were spent back to the usual routine: doing any remaining assignments as in just a couple of days, their first midterm; the Advanced English Literature midterm, was coming up, and the two reptiles mainly studied together at the desk in between English lessons and the like. One night, after practice was cancelled due to below -30 degrees wind chill and Headmaster Robotnik advising Coach Augustus to cancel for the safety of his players, the two reptiles spent the evening studying for their midterm, and with Vector's laptop open on the desk, they had spent the last hour reviewing everything on the study guide.

However, in between Vector going over the section on narratives in short fiction, he turned to see Espio starting to doze off right next to him (the two were sharing a chair). Smiling, Vector minimized the tab with the midterm review.

"He's probably really tired from how much Mr. Valdez has been makin' him study…" Vector thought to himself, watching the chameleon slowly close his eyes more and more as he watched him doze off. "But look at just how sweet he looks…"

Vector shook his head though, back to thinking these thoughts about Espio. In fact, in the very small free time he'd been actually able to have, the crocodile had been thinking about what had been going on throughout the month. These… thoughts about Espio… Far be it from him to deny any type of affection, but… this time it felt different. He wasn't sure if what he was feeling was just love for his friend or… or something-

"Ugh, there ya go again, Vector!" the crocodile complained to himself. "Yer doin' that again… and right in front of Espio too! I'm sure it ain't nothin' huge, it's just yer mind wantin' to play games. Espio is just probably the closest ya been to someone in a long while, and nothing else!"

Just then, Vector began to hear noises right next to him and turned around to see Espio rubbing his eyes.

"Oh…" the large reptile replied. "Sorry fer wakin' ya up, Espio. Ya must be really tired since ya been studyin' like crazy… Also, dun forget we had a bit of a heavy dinner too."

Espio nodded, still dozed off and sleepy from their dinner of Chun-Nan Express as well as being generally tired from studying.

"Tell ya what, Why doncha head on to bed early tonight? Ya likely have been bustin' yer ass off to study, ya can take this day off. Ya deserve it."

"B-But…" Espio replied, yawning. "St-study…"

"Studyin' can wait 'till tomorrow. Besides, remember we're still doin' training, right? If ya head to bed now, ya can get in a good 9 hours of sleep. Just make sure to do everythin' ya need before bed, shower, brush yer teeth, all that, okay? Besides, I think I need to study more than ya. I know yeh'll be fine."

Espio looked up at Vector, proceeding to turn around in the chair and getting up. Vector turned to see the very clear look of exhaustion on Espio's face, his scales seeming like they'd seen better days.

"Yer gonna do great on these midterms, Espio, just like I'm gonna do great on the next game, right?"

Espio nodded, softly smiling.

"Good, now head on down to the first floor and get yerself washed up and all that."

Turning around, Espio left the dorm as Vector opened up back his laptop, hoping that he actually wouldn't get distracted from studying, only to open his phone seconds later upon logging in. As he checked his social media notifications, then a few text messages from the team groupchat, as well as his groupchat with Knuckles and Mighty, Vector returned back to his Advanced English Literature notes.

"Fer Gaia's sake though…" the crocodile said to himself. "Even when he's super tired like that… he's a bit of an angel lookin' like that…"

Training had also been much of the same for Vector, who had been increasing the amount of carrots he blended into his morning juice, increasing the amount of laps he ran around campus, and changing up what workouts he did each day or adding stuff like pull ups, sit ups, jump rope, deadlifts, or with Espio intervening to make things harder yet more rewarding, such as having him stand on his back, geta still on, with one of the pipes they use for kendo in Espio's hands pushing it into Vector's back as well as the crocodile did 2 sets of 30 pushups, pulling battle ropes as hard as he could to make Vector use them as hard as he could without tiring him out, the like.

And of course, there was the obligatory kendo session at the end of sessions, and despite all his attempts, there was still no difference in who came out at the end, as Vector would usually be disarmed by Espio, though each day he would last longer and longer with each session.

With the crocodile's body growing with muscle, Espio even noticed it from afar that Friday after training as the crocodile took pictures in the mirror in the I building locker room.

It was the next day; Saturday the 16th, after the one hour training session at their usual time, it was time for that day's kendo session to finally cool down. Getting into position with their usual pipes in hand, Espio made the first move as he swung first, the two zooming past each other as their pipes clashed together, turning around in synchronization as they went back to slowly tapping the pipes against one another.

"C'mon, Espio… this time I'm feelin' lucky! Ya know how much stronger I've been gettin' thanks to trainin'!" Vector said as they made baby steps, trying to find the best opening. He then made the next move, attempting to swing at Espio's head only for the transfer student to block, slashing the pipe against the shaft as he attempted to go for Vector's body for an opening shot. However, Vector was able to block at the last minute with the tip, Espio slowly moving back as he swung again, the crocodile blocking once, and then twice as he swung again, moving around graciously around the spare room. They swung simultaneously, clashing the pipes against one another as they got closer, holding them upright as they stared into each other's eyes with certainty.

"C'mon, ya know ya can't stay concentrated like that forever, Espio!" Vector added. "I'm gonna break that focus of yers and win if it's the last thing I do!"

Continuing to circle around one another, lightly tapping the pipes against one another trying to find the best shot, Espio then proceeded to yell as he move forward quickly towards Vector, swiping as Vector raised his arms up, holding his pipe above his head as Espio had to almost get on his tiptoes to reach the crocodile's pipe. He then swiped down, going for a side shot to get him on his side only for Vector to block. Espio's face filled with intensity and determination as he attempted to go for another disarm strike from above, moving past Vector as they turned around.

In the hopes of once against disarming Vector, Espio attempted to fool Vector into thinking he would do another side slash, only for him to strike from below to disarm the pipe from the quarterback's hands. However, Vector was ready, and with him seeing this move, Vector retaliated by blocking the sideswipe early, which caught Espio off guard. Upon seeing this, the chameleon moved forward as not only was Vector able to tap Espio on his shoulder, he then slashed the pipe from his shoulder down to the chameleon's pipe, forcing it out of his hands and onto the floor where it collided as Vector held up his pipe to Espio's neck.

Breathing heavily, the two reptiles looked at one another as Vector looked at the pipe on the floor, sinking in as to what just happened.

"I… I won…" Vector said, taking deep breaths before starting to chuckle. "I… I won! Ha ha ha… I actually won!"

Espio looked at the pipe before turning towards his friend, starting to form a small smile on his face.

"I… never l-loose? But… you w-won, Vector. I am very happy for you," Espio replied.

"I'll say! I didn't think I ever won before, but the fact ya never lost before back home? That just makes this win even more special! Dun feel bad, Espio. I'm sure ya didn't want to ever lose either. Ya were my first ever opponent period, and yet somehow I won. I bet it was by chance."

"No. You get better."

"It's got better, but I know whacha mean!"

"S-Sorry, got better…"

"Ehh, no biggie, dude! Come on, let's put these up and get showered and enjoy breakfast! We both deserve a good meal after what happened!"

As they put the pipes up and left the spare room, Vector stretched as Espio looked up, smiling at his friend.

"Man, am I beat, but I just know this is gonna help! The game is in two days, and I'm really pumped thanks to all the strength, endurance, and reflex workouts I've done! All this trainin' yeh've done with me means a lot, Espio, and I'm really happy that yer here since trainin' by yerself gets a little lonely… Ya make things a little more lively, ya hear?"

"Thank you, Vector," Espio nodded, bowing.

"Is this the type of training ya do back home?"

"It is… how do you say that word… yes and no?"

"Similar?"

"Yes, si-similar. But, you are very st-stro… strong… More than me."

"Aw, dun sell yerself short, dude. But.. thanks. This ain't…" he then proceeded to flex his biceps on the spot, the muscle on them raising boldly on his arms. "…aargh, ol' flabby Vector anymore!"

Espio laughed, enjoying how silly Vector looked while continuing to smile at his friend. Rather than shower, the two spent some time laughing and chatting as more and more people began to enter the gym. The others mainly ignored them, going on with their early morning workouts as they listened to music or let their mind focus on their workouts.

All, except one person.

From outside the I building, Monk stared at Vector and Espio through the window of the building's door, looking cross at how the two were looking as he exhaled heavily out of his nose on the window, fog filling the glass.

THE NEXT DAY

It was Sunday, the 17th of December, and thankfully, it was a rest day for the two reptiles. Espio had his first Midterm for Social Science the previous day, which he thought he did well on. Next week, however, was looking to be the busiest, as not only were there SEVERAL midterms and finals, but Monday was Vector's game, and Friday was the day of the Creative Drawing class' art show at the Museum of Arty Art, alongside the two having to discuss with Coach Augustus and Valdez respectively about classes for next semester. As such, Vector and Espio were planning to use their final rest day to good use before the longest week of the year was about to commence.

...at least, that's what Vector thought until Coach Augustus texted him during breakfast to come meet him in his office personally in the I building for an emergency meeting before the Semifinals. As such, the crocodile had to rush his breakfast after telling the Badniks' table about the meeting as Vector and Espio walked into the snowy and icy outside, falling snow blowing onto Vector's letterman jacket and Espio's black hakama and haori as the chameleon almost slipped on ice on the slippery concrete walkway.

"Oi, watch yerself, Espio. These walkways can get really icy," Vector said as the two were steps away from the I building. Entering inside and walking past the main gym area, the two made their way into the hallways, past the extra courtrooms and indoor swimming pool, past the locker rooms and towards the offices of all of Mobius U's coaches. Just as they reached Coach Augustus' office-

"Alright, I'll talk with ya about the spring season soon, George," a sudden shrill voice said. "I get that the football and wrestling and basketball and volleyball and whatever is all busy and such, but I'm just rarin' for all this snow to melt! That track is looking lonelier by the day!"

Just then, a lankly purple man with the strangest haircut the chameleon had seen walked out of Augustus' office, turning his direction towards Vector and Espio.

"Oh, if it ain't Vector!"

"Mornin', Coach Zazz," Vector replied. "Surprised yer here early this mornin'. What's goin' on?"

"Just talkin' with George 'bout the upcoming track season. I wanted to do signups early this year, but he ain't letting me since he's already swamped with the other sports goin' on, and the Swim Team's startin' in January, so it looks like we're back for another March season. Ain't February the best time to get on the track?"

"Still cold around that time, but I know whacha mean. Probably beats the temperature now."

"Ha! Knew ya could agree with me, Vector. Ya sure are the quarterback of your team for a season. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go beg to the headmaster about letting signups open early. If you're looking for Augustus, he's in there with George right now."

With that, Coach Zazz left the two as Espio could only stare back at him.

"That's Coach Zazz," Vector explained. "Our track and field coach, as well as the only Zeti we got as faculty 'round here. He's a lil' bit of a nutjob, and looks more like a punk than a track coach, but he's actually a pretty cool guy. Although I've seen him get just as crazy as coach can get! Anyway uh… ya heard him, AD Sommersby is in there with Coach. It likely means I won't be gettin' out fer some time. Here, ya dun need to wait fer me. Why doncha head back to the dorm fer now? Get started on yer day rather than wait fer me. Maybe ya can do some last minute studyin' or hell, see if anyone else is available? I dun wancha to wait fer like… three hours or four knowin' AD Sommersby."

Espio looked a little sad, but he knew Vector had good intentions. The crocodile looked down at him, noticing Espio's expression.

"Hey, it'll be fine. I promise we can hang out, maybe… maybe grab lunch somewhere before practice later tonight, okay?"

The chameleon nodded before Vector unzipped his jacket. "Here, it'll probably be really cold leavin' outta here, so just as long as ya dun get it dirty…"

Crouching, he placed his letterman jacket over Espio. "Keep yerself warm with this as ya head back to the dorm."

Espio gasped, grabbing onto the jacket as he looked at it. "V-Vector… this…"

"Ya dun need to say anythin'. Just think of this as me helpin' ya out-"

Vector couldn't finish what he was saying thanks to Espio hugging him. Chuckling, he returned the hug before letting go.

"Alright, now fer real I gotta head in there before those two ask me what I've been doin' standin' outside fer so long. See ya in a bit, Espio!"

With that, Vector entered into the office and closed the door behind him as Espio stood in the hallway, already becoming warm with the crocodile's jacket on. Even with him just standing normally in the hallway…

"It… feels and… smells like him exactly…" Espio thought to himself.

Leaving the I building, Espio wrapped the letterman jacket as tight as he could around himself as the wind blew in his face. He closed his eyes and shivered, hoping to get warm as soon as possible. Seconds upon climbing down the steps towards the I building, Espio then began to hear the strumming of a string instrument, the whistle of wind instruments, and the rattling of something metal as a voice began to sing out.

"The holly and the ivy,

When they are both full grown.

Of all the trees that are in the wood,

The holly bears the crown…"

Espio was confused. What was going on? Where was that singing coming from? And why did it… sound so beautiful? His answer would be quickly answered as he followed the sound of the voice and the instruments, walking towards the giant Christmas lights covered tree in front of North Hall as he was surprised, seeing Bow and his friends under the tree. The sparrow and Thorn were playing some kind of shakuhachi, only smaller and holding it sideways, and Alan was playing with lute alongside Munch, who had a small object in his hand that seemed to have a taiko on the top and metal discs on the side, playing along as Alan was the one who was singing, with Buck joining alongside him. The chameleon was surprised, he didn't expect Buck to be such a good singer like Alan…

"The rising of the sun,

And the running of the Pocky.

The playing of the merry organ,

Sweet singing in the choir…"

Suddenly, Thorn messed up her playing as she turned towards the chameleon, eyes opening wide.

"Oh, Espio! Good morning!" she said as the others followed suit.

"Why, blessed be this morning of holy, white snow, Espio!" Buck added. "It seems that Solaris has let himself relax today to bring this wonderland to us."

"Hello, good morning," Espio replied. "What are you doing?"

"Singing Christmas carols, ol' buddy!" Alan said. "Back home in Mercia, on the 17th until Christmas Eve, we would all sing songs celebrating the coming of the holidays, goin' around the town or visiting peoples homes, wishing them all a lovely Christmas. Oh, what a joyous occasion it would be. The children and their families singing, bells from the local churches ringing, and the smell of delicious meals for all to enjoy during celebrations."

"With exams and finals and all that going on, we can see how stressful things are around here, so we at least wanted to bring a little bit of joy today!" Bow replied. "Turns out, Christmas caroling is popular here in Central Mobius, so at least there's love and appreciation for this art! And besides, look around this wonderful campus. Not just during the day, but its beauty at night too. This part of Mobius loves the holidays just like back home in Mercia, so of course we'd gladly sing songs we would sing back home!"

"If yeh have the time, c'mon and join us," Munch replied. "I'm sure Buck could use a backup singer! After all, I'm sure Christmas is celebrated in Northern Mobius… erm, roight?"

"I know they do, many places around this world do," Buck replied before his face slightly fell. "…however, judging by your confused look, Espio, it seems they did not celebrate Christmas in your village."

Espio shook his head, as he was still getting used to all this 'Krismas' stuff around the campus.

"Well, if you don't mind, we would love to show you one of our traditions for this time of year! If you don't, that's perfectly fine. We'll be here all day if you'd like to come back and hear more of our songs."

Espio turned his head back towards the I building, remembering that Vector was going to take some time. Plus, he didn't want to just keep studying, and it HAD been some time since he last saw Bow and his friends, and he did promise that he would come and 'hang out' with them. As such…

"Okay."

Espio walked towards the group under the tree as they all gasped.

"R-Really?!" Bow exclaimed. "Wow, I'm so happy, Espio!"

"You're going to be a great singer, I promise!" Thorn added, smiling.

"We sing many different kind of songs," Buck replied. "Some about the holidays, some you'll only hear in Mercia, some in dedication to Solaris and His offspring, Gaia, even some that are very popular here! We're learning as many from all over Mobius as we can for when we return home. Come, let's sing something new in dedication to you joining us! Do any of you have suggestions anyone?"

"Ooh, I got one! It'll be perfect for you to sing alongside us, Espio!" Alan replied. "Oi, Munch! Start shaking the tambourine!"

"What do I… do?" Espio asked. Just then, Buck reached into his bag and pulled out a bundle of papers for the chameleon, who grabbed it. The chameleon looked at it oddly until he opened it up.

"This has lyrics for all the songs we sung last year during this time which we're doing this year," Bow replied. "If I'm correct... Munch is starting first… is this perhaps?"

"Yes, this song, Espio, is a song that was taught to us from a penpal in Southern Mobius, a song that they translated from Spanish to English for us. We've always wanted to know as many carols from not just Meriia, but also everywhere around Mobius, and this was one of my favorites to learn." Buck said, pointing at the page in the pamphlet with the lyrics to the song.

"I always quite liked this one! Lemme get in on this too if I can!"

"If you'd like to begin, Alan," the deer nodded his head at his friend. The quail nodded as he began to strum his lute, Thorn, Bow, and Munch all playing along as the bird opened his mouth, the quail and deer began to sing. Meanwhile, Espio tried his best to follow along.

"Come, let us sing

A little lullaby, o' lulla~by~,

My little girl is sleepy,

O' bless her, please bless her

Come, let us sing

A little lullaby, o' lulla~by~,

My little girl is sleepy,

O' bless her, please bless her"

Alan and Buck unfortunately left Espio behind before the second lyric ended, so the chameleon instead tried mouth the words the two were singing as Munch, Bow, and Thorn continued played alongside the quail's lute.

"Little fountain that runs,

Clear and sonorous,

Nightingale in the jungle,

Singing and crying.

Hush while the cradle,

Sways back and forth,

Come, let us sing a little

Lull~a~by~…"

By now, the group was already starting to attract a small crowd of students who were walking around campus as they continued, and despite the freezing cold, many of them stayed behind to listen to the group play their instruments and sing, mesmerized by the voices of the group. By the end of the song, the people who stood around the Mercian transfer students and Espio began to clap as Buck bowed for them all.

"Thank you," he said. "Solaris bless you all for coming to listen to our carols. We know things are hard this time of the year with exams or anything else, so we're happy to be here all day singing for you all and take your mind off everything and focus on what's important to us this year. The wonderful scenic views you see, the friends and family whom you all love so much, and the values of being a virtuous person. Please, come stay and enjoy our next song with us!"

It wouldn't be until almost close to 1pm when Vector would finally leave his meeting with Coach Augustus and AD Sommersby, and at this point, they had droned on and on about their plans for tomorrow's game: what strategies, team positions, scenarios, and the like for all that time. The crocodile was exhausted, and he didn't have much free time before practice later tonight, as thankfully the wind chill wasn't as bad as it was a few days ago.

"I just hope Espio's warmer than me right now…" Vector said as he opened the doors to the main gym. He saw Thrash and a few other members of the team on the bench presses, but decided not to say hello out of just wanting to leave the I building for today. Upon opening the door outside to the back campus however, Vector was surprised to see a large crowd, including students, some faculty, and what appeared to be Officer Wachowski all standing around by the big tree in front of North Hall. There was, more noticeably, a choir of voiced coming from the area.

"…all is calm, all is bright…

Round yon virgin, Mother Solaris…

Holy Gaia, so tender and mild…

Sleep in heavenly peace!

Sleep in heavenly peace!"

Curious, Vector walked towards the crowd and tried to see what was going on, and thanks to his large stature, he could see that rat friend of Mighty's with a tambourine in hand, singing alongside several of those archery friends of Espio's.

"Didn't think we'd be gettin' Christmas carols this year," Vector said to himself. It was really good though… they could surprisingly sing very well. Just then…

"Oh, Vector! Didn't think you'd be here. Where were you?"

Vector turned to his right, where the voice was coming from. It was Rotor, standing right next to him.

"Oh, Rotz. I could say the same. I just got outta meetin' with Coach and AD Sommersby. What's goin' on?"

"The Merician transfer students are doing Christmas Carols all day. You might be surprised about their guest singer. I didn't know Espio could sing so well!" the walrus replied. Vector quickly turned his head towards the walrus.

"W-Wha? Espio?!"

Vector turned his head back towards the group, and just behind Bow, the crocodile could see Espio clearly. He was singing alongside the group and… happy looking. He didn't think that Espio would be able to understand Christmas carols, considering that he didn't know everything about Christmas, but to see him sing like this, especially a song that was as beautiful as… well, he didn't remember the EXACT name at the moment, but still…

"It's… beautiful…" he said. Not wanting to be a buzzkill, he waited until the song was over and the crowd began to clap to sidle over to the group, trying not to step on any feet and shivering as he got to the front, where Espio noticed him.

"V-Vector!" he said, walking up to him. "A-Ah… hello…"

"Why, good afternoon, Vector!" Buck said. "Have you come to join us too?"

"A-Ah… I really ain't the best singer, especially when it comes to Christmas carols…" the crocodile replied, smiling with eyes closed as he shook his hands. "I was just lookin' fer Espio cause I sent him back to the dorm with mah jacket. I didn't think he'd be joinin' ya."

"I was surprised too," Alan replied. "But it's almost like he's a natural! Is it time for him to go though?"

"Yeah, we were thinkin' of grabbin' lunch together. Besides, he's…"

Vector touched Espio's face, only to jolt his hand back.

"Yikes! Yer really cold, Espio! We really need to warm ya up!" he said. "Are ya sure yer okay?"

"F-Fine…" he replied.

"Aah, dun say that! I'm glad yer havin' fun carolin', but yer still a reptile, and I dun wancha to get sick or anythin'! Ya hungry?"

"A… little."

"Alright, we can find somethin' small if ya want. Mah treat as usual, okay?"

Espio nodded, smiling.

"Aw, we were having fun…" Thorn said. "Oh well, we'll still be here for some time if you wanna come back!"

"Likewise! We'll be here same time, same place!" Munch replied. "By the by, Vector, tell Mighty I'll come an' train with him Tuesday before our match Wednesday!"

"Course, no prob dude!"

"May Solaris bless you two, Vector and Espio, with good tidings this holiday," Buck said, hands together.

"Yeh guys make sure ya keep warm, alright?"

"Of course! We've dealt with winters back home!" Bow said. "Anyway, let's get started on this new song! Thorn, if you would?"

The lop nodded before turning to the two reptiles. "I'll see you two during the class tomorrow, okay?"

Vector gave the lop a thumbs up as the two walked towards the A building, heading inside.

"Ya had fun?" the crocodile asked.

"Y-Yes…" Espio replied. "Was I good?"

"Ya weren't just good, dude… ya were bea-"

Vector stopped himself, realizing what he was about to say. It was beautiful singing of course, but how would the chameleon reply if he said it was beautiful, most especially his voice? As quickly as he stopped himself…

"Ya were the best."

Espio smiled and nodded. "Thank you, Vector."

With that, the two reptiles chatted and left the A building, on their way off campus to Vector's car to find lunch somewhere. Though it was looking to be a busy week once Vector got to practice, times like these were always the most special, especially with feelings of warmth when the two got to be close during a beautiful time of year like the holidays, and it would get better that very next day once Valdez returned back to campus…
