Chapter 1

Shortly after they had robbed the Goth Corp warehouse with extreme ease, Denny and his crew rested comfortably in the Chevy Express cargo van as Royce drove the blue painted van down the vacant city streets as they exited West End and into enter the neighborhood of Edgewood, which was the exact moment three Rockay City Police Department issued Chevy Impala sedans drove right past them with the sirens blaring out.

"And there goes the cops." Denny stated with a casual smirk on his face as Royce, Nikki and Michael glanced out the left side windows as they watched the three police issued Impalas drive right past them.

"Anyone care to guess where's Rockay's best and brightest are headed?" Nicole asked with a similar grin on her face as she playfully asked her brother and teammates if they knew where the Rockay City Police were heading.

"Oh, gee that's a tough one, but if I had to guess, probably...a warehouse on West End." Caitlyn answered with an equally playful tone in her voice as she fairly guessed that the cops were no doubtingly responding to a warehouse robbery...that they had just pulled off!

"Heh, and its a small wonder why the crime rate in this city's so high." Sam added with a smug grin on his face while shaking his head at the RCPD's incompetence, which was what allowed them and the other criminal gangs operating in Rockay to get away with their crimes.

"You can say that again brother." Michael stated as he and the blondish redhead bumped fists and glanced back to the front of the Chevy, as they heard a cellphone go off and watched Denny reach into his left pants pocket and pull out his personal phone before he answered it.

"Yeah, its Conroy." Denny answered professionally as he answered his phone.

"Did you and your crew acquire the cargo?" A male voice speaking in a Nigerian-English accent and businessman like tone asked professionally.

"Yes, Simmons. We raided the warehouse and were able to lift the platinum." The brunette answered with a soft smirk as he informed his crew's silent 'business partner', Simmons that he and his team had hit the warehouse and made off with the platinum without alerting the guards and police.

"Excellent Denny. Once you and your crew reach the club, come in through the rear entrance." The Nigerian male stated, showing that he was pleased that Conroy and his crew had pulled off the warehouse robbery with extreme ease.

"Got it. We'll be at the club in 10-15 minutes, tops." Denny replied, showing that he understood his 'partner's instructions perfectly before they hung up and he placed his phone back in his pants pocket.

"Simmons wants us to use the back entrance?" John asked with casual look on his face as he, Nicole, Michael, Sam and Caitlyn overheard the brief phone conversation between the brunette and their 'silent partner'.

"Yep. So you guys know the drill." Conroy answered casually with a soft nod before he turned on the Chevy's built in radio and much to his, John's and Sam's pleasure, Rockay City's number one radio station, QRX had just playing the 2002 American classic, Drift Away performed by Uncle Kracker and Dobie Gray and as they listened to the soothing country music, Denny and Sam couldn't help but sing along to their favorite part of the song while Michael, Kate and Nikki softly nodded their heads to the rhythm.

Oh, give me the beat boys, and free my soul

I wanna get lost in your rock n' roll and drift away

Oh, give me the beat boys, and free my soul

I wanna get lost in your rock n' roll and drift away

As Conroy and his crew listened to the radio, Royce who also nodded his head to the soothing Country music drove the 2002 blue painted cargo van down the empty street for 10 whole minutes before exiting Edgewood and entering North Edgewood and after driving for another 3 minutes, a bright grin softly appeared on the dark haired man's and Denny's face as they spotted their main destination: the Crimson Rose Nightclub. As soon as they had arrived at the club, Denny and his team removed their masks and placed them in a 4th duffel bag, along with their handguns and Sam's Remington 870 shotgun. After they had stowed their masks and weapons away for safe keeping, along with their vests, Denny, John and the rest of the their team exited the Chevy cargo van with Michael and Sam placing the two duffel bags carrying the platinum over their left/right shoulders and Conroy carrying the 3rd bag before they entered the nightclub through the back entrance, just like like Simmons requested.

As soon as they stepped inside, Conroy and his team rode the private elevator up to the 2nd floor of the nightclub, where they entered a loft that had been converted into an office with a huge maple desk and decorated with high end furniture: a large roulette table, a liquor cabinet behind the desk, a dart board on the far right wall, a Bluetooth Jukebox. The office walls were also decorated with a number of exotic paintings done by famous artists: Morning in A Pine Forest by Ivan Shishkin and Konstantin Savitsky, Portrait of a Lion by Rosa Bonhuer, Becalmed Off Halfway Rock by Fitz Hugh Lane and The Church at Auvers by Van Gogh and five animal head trophies of a grizzly bear, Kudu, a white Rhinoceros, Cape water buffalo and lion hanging above the liquor cabinet.

Once they stepped off the elevator and entered the office floor, Denny and his group had spotted their 'silent business' partner, Simmons; an African American man in his 40's with dark brown skin and black hair in short dreadlocks wearing a deep blue violet business shirt underneath a blueish gray suit and matching pants sitting in a Rockefeller chair behind the desk with a pair of sunglasses with red lenses covering his eyes, covering over a single sheet of paper in front of his desk.

"Ah Denny, I've been expecting you and your crew." The mysterious Nigerian stated professionally as he glanced up to face the brunette and his team the moment he heard the service elevator 'ding' after it reached the office floor.

"Hello Robert." Denny greeted professionally as he, John, Nikki, Sam, Kate and Michael cautiously glanced at a bald headed Caucasian man wearing a coal gray Michael Strahan business jacket, jet black shirt, matching pants and black sunglasses whom was standing directly on the right side behind Simmons with his hands behind his back.

"Do you have the platinum?" Simmons casually asked, even though he already knew the answer, due to speaking to Conroy over the phone not too long ago.

"Got it, right here." The brunette replied while glancing to Michael and Sam, whom were carrying the duffels bags holding the platinum over their shoulders and presenting the bag he was carrying before placing it on the table.

"Mike, Sam. Go ahead and give Simmons the platinum." He automatically added with the African American and reddish blonde silently nodding in agreement as they did as their friend and crew leader ordered and placed the two other duffel bags on the desk.

Once Michael and Sam placed the two bags in front of him, Simmons naturally unzipped the first bag and couldn't help but smile as he reached for and held a single 1 oz. platinum bar in his two hands.

"Ah, such lovely craftsmanship. Tell me Denny, how much of the platinum did you and crew obtain from the warehouse?" The mysterious Nigerian asked.

"We filled those two bags with 12 bars of platinum, each." Conroy answered honestly as he informed his silent 'partner' on how he and his team had looted a total of three dozen platinum bullions.

"Hmm, you, John, Nicole, Samuel, Caitlyn and Michael do good work. My client will be deeply pleased." Simmons stated with a casual grin on his face as he complimented Conroy and his crew on a job well done in acquiring the platinum.

"You already have a buyer for the platinum?" John asked while crossing his arms against his chest after hearing Simmons say he already had a client looking to purchase the platinum he and his team just stole.

"Indeed I do John, and I've already taken the liberty of providing the client with yours, along with your sister's and the rest of your teams personal banking accounts. So you can expect to receive your shares of your payment in just a few short days." The Nigerian club owner answered casually as he opened the top right drawer of his desk, took out a single Cuban cigar and lighter.

"Good. That's very good." Michael stated while glancing to Sam and Nicole, whom nodded as they were pleased to hear that they would receive their payment for lifting the platinum in two to three days.

"And here is your payment for the warehouse job, as promised." Simmons added while turning to the bald headed man standing behind him, who simply handed him an envelope before handing to Denny, whom opened the envelope and smiled, along with his group after seeing the bundles of six hundred $100 bills.

"Always a pleasure doing business with you Robert." Denny stated casually as he handed the envelope to John, whom safely tucked the 60 grand in the hem pocket of his shirt for save keeping.

"Speaking of business...I do have two other jobs that are currently available." Simmons replied with similar grin on his face as he lit the Cuban cigar and placed it between his lips as he blew out a small huff of smoke while leaning back in his chair.

"You already have two more jobs?" Kate asked, even though she and the rest of her friends/teammates were not that surprised that their 'business partner' already had landed them two additional jobs: due to his various connections throughout Rockay City's criminal underworld.

"But of course Caitlyn. After all, I do have a list of clients that are willing to pay the full amount of whatever valuables you, Denny and the rest of your crew acquire." The shady Nigerian club owner answered as he reminded the redhead on how he had a number of 'clients' whom were willing to pay for how much gold, silver, drugs they lifted from various malls, warehouses, banks and rival gang stash houses throughout the city.

"Alright Robert...what sort of jobs are we talking about?" Denny asked as his and his team's interest were piqued.

"These two assignments should be rather easy for you and crew, Denny. The 1st job is another warehouse theft, only this time in Riverside. The Templarios have just received a shipment of heroin from their suppliers in Sonora and are sending a small handful of foot soldiers to transport the drugs from the warehouse to one of their stash houses in Low Haven. As for the 2nd job, a strip mall in Old Bruno has just received a shipment of high end Rolex watches." Simmons answered as he explained to Conroy and his crew on what the two jobs entailed: the 1st job was to rip off drugs from the Templarios and the 2nd was a simple mall robbery.

"So you want us to rip off the Templarios and steal a bunch of high end watches from a strip mall?" Denny asked as he, John and the rest of their crew shared an uneasy look: especially after hearing how one of their jobs included stealing a shipment of heroin from the Templarios, one of their rival gangs, whom didn't share their level of restraint and had no qualms with spilling innocent blood.

"That pretty much sums it up. The jobs are yours if you and your team want them." Simmons answered with a casual nod as he exhaled another huff of smoke from the cigar and softly handed Conroy two separate folders, which the brunette and his group suspected were surveillance photos and files they would need if they decided to pull the two jobs off.

"...What time are the drugs arriving to the warehouse in Riverside?" The brunette asked.

"The truck will be arriving to the warehouse at 1:30 pm tomorrow afternoon. The Templarios will arrive to retrieve their shipment by then." Simmons answered as he exhaled another small huff of smoke, revealing how the truck transporting the heroin would arrive at the warehouse at 1:30 pm and that the Templarios would arrive to pick up the drugs when the warehouse employees would start moving the crates.

"We'll need to talk it over." Denny stated simply, claiming that he and his crew would need to discuss on whether or not they would accept the jobs.

"Very well. Oh, and Denny? There's one last thing I thought you'd like to know." The Nigerian club owner replied professionally as he understood how Conroy and his team would need to think the mall and drug heist over and informed the brunette of one last matter he needed to discuss with him.

"And what might that be?" Denny asked as he was curious to what it was his group's silent partner and handler wanted to tell him.

"Candace is waiting for you downstairs at the bar. She has a business proposition she'd like to discuss with you." Simmons answered truthfully as he exhaled another small huff of smoke from the still burning cigar between his lips.

"Alright." Denny stated as he and his group understood what time the Templarios would arrive to pick up the heroin from the warehouse at Riverside and how the bartender wanted to speak to him before they exited the office floor and walked down the main staircase down to the nightclub floor.

"Miller..." Simmons stated plainly as soon as Conroy and his crew left the room.

"Yes boss?" The Caucasian bald headed man asked, even though he had a good idea what his employer was about to say/ask.

"Call Carter and tell him to stand ready for when Conroy and his crew carry out the jobs I just gave them." The Nigerian nightclub owner answered casually as he exhaled one last huff of smoke from the Havana before stamping it out on the seashell shaped ashtray on the table and dumping it the nearby trash bin.

"Yes, sir." The bald headed man, Miller stated with a soft nod as he reached into his right jacket pocket, pulled out his cell phone and dialed in a programmed number.

Meanwhile, shortly after he and his team exited Simmons office and walked down the stairs, Denny and his group couldn't help but chuckle softly as they saw how packed the Crimson Rose: as the entire club was filled with a huge crowd of people, mostly college boys and girls whom were dancing to the loud music the DJ was playing from his PA system and speakers and socializing and drinking at the nightclub bar, where four bartenders: two men and two women were serving drinks to their hard partying customers. As they continued to watch the other patrons dancing to the techno song Take Me Away by 4 Strings, John and Michael couldn't help but smile and chuckle softly as they saw Sam, Nikki and Kate nodding their heads to the beat of the song while Denny silently glanced towards the bar and spotted the 2nd female bartender: a woman whom in her early 30's, just like him, Caucasian/tan skin, light caramel brown hair in a Casual Lob style and crystal grey eyes waving over to him, which he naturally returned.

"There she is." The brunette stated as he turned to John, who also spotted the bartender that Simmons mentioned not too long ago.

"Michael, I'll go with Denny to the bar. Think you and Sam can keep an eye on Kate and Nikki?" John stated as he informed Mike that he would accompany Denny to the bar while assigning him and Sam to watch Nikki and Caitlyn while they stepped away for a brief moment.

"Oh, fuck you John. I don't need a damn babysitter." Nicole countered with a slightly annoyed look on her face after hearing her brother asking Sam and Mike to keep an eye on her...even though he had a good reason to.

"Ahh forget your brother Nikki. C'mon, let's go dance." Caitlyn casually stated as she broke up the negative tension between the Morales siblings and gently grasped her hand over Nicole's wrist as she led them to the dance floor.

"Okay Kate." The Latina stated with a soft grin, which swiftly replaced the annoyed glare on her face as she and the redhead joined the patrons whom were dancing to the techno music.

"Huh, looks like Kate will be looking after your sister Jack." Samuel stated casually as he, Denny, Michael and John watched the two ladies dancing to the loud music blaring from the DJ's speakers, along with the other college men and women.

"Tskk, that's for sure." John stated while scoffing at his sister's attitude before he and Denny softly pushed their way to the bar while Michael and Sam leaned against the back wall with their arms crossed as they watched Kate, Nikki and the other people dancing to the music as the DJ played the song, Burnin' In The 3rd Degree by Tahnee Caine and Tryanglz from the ever loving 1984 classic Terminator.

As Nicole, Caitlyn and the other patrons danced, Denny and John eventually made their way to the bar and casually sat down on two stools that were fortunately vacant.

"Hey barkeep. My friend and I would like to order." The brunette stated casually as called out to the 1st male bartender, as his friend and the 2nd female bartender were busy serving the other customers, whom were nearly inebriated.

"What will it be buddy?" The male bartender asked as he turned to face Conroy and Morales.

"I'll take a glass of Corona Premier." John answered as he ordered a glass of Corona, which the bartender wrote down on his notepad.

"Okay and what about you sir?" The bartender stated as he jolted down John's order and asked Denny on what he wanted.

"I'll order a..." Conroy was about to say...before he was cut off by a female voice who answered for him.

"A glass of Jack Daniels Tennessee Fireball Whiskey." The brunette bartender stated with a casual smile on her face...which Denny naturally mirrored at how the woman knew exactly what his preferred drink was.

"Okay, one Corona and one Fireball Whiskey, coming up." The male bartender stated as he wrote down Denny's and John's orders and turned around to prepare their drinks.

As soon as the bartender turned away, both Denny and the brunette smiled softly at each other...before they slowly leaned in and shared a sweet kiss, which earned a couple of wolf whistles from the other customers sitting at the bar, whom were either straight or hungover whilst John simply smirked and chuckled at the sight.

"Hey Candace." Conroy greeted casually with a soft grin on his face the moment he and the bartender, whom was in fact his girlfriend pulled away.

"Hey Denny. Hello John." The bartender, Candace replied with a similar smile on her face before turning to greet the Hispanic male.

"Hey Candace." John greeted casually as he glanced over his shoulder to see his sister and Caitlyn still dancing to Burnin' In The 3rd Degree, along with the other patrons on the dance floor.

"I see the club's at full capacity." He added plainly after seeing the large crowd of civilians the moment he, Denny and the rest of their crew walked down the stairs from Simmons' office.

"Yeah, well what did expect? Rockay City is practically the coastal version of Vegas and New York, where the people come to party." Candace stated as she pointed out to her boyfriend's second in command on how Rockay City was practically Las Vegas and New York City combined on the Florida Panhandle and how people from all over the US, especially college kids came to party.

"Simmons said you had something you needed to discuss?" Denny asked with a casual expression on his face.

"Yeah...I do. I take it that Robert already told you guys about the strip mall job?" The brunette bartender answered with a similar expression while speaking softly, so none of the other patrons sitting nearby would hear them.

"Yeah, he did." John answered as both he and Denny nodded their heads.

"Well, I'm guessing he left out the part on how the Cobra Familia would also be hitting the strip mall on Old Bruno as well." Candace stated as she revealed a rather unexpected revelation to her boyfriend and his right hand man: how another of their rival gangs, the Cobra Familia was also planning on hitting the strip mall in Old Bruno!

"...Oh, really?" Denny asked softly...as he and John glanced at each other with light glares on their faces on how Simmons 'conveniently' left that part out when he briefed them on the warehouse and strip mall jobs earlier back in his office.

"We're going to have to tell Michael and the others about this." Morales stated with the brunette nodding in agreement with his 2nd in command.

"And what I wanted to talk to you about Denny is that I need to ask for a favor." Candace added as she informed Denny that she needed to ask him and his crew for a personal favor.

"What kind of favor are we talking about?" Conroy asked as he and John were curious to what sort of favor his girlfriend needed.

"One of our vendors who supplies us with our merchandise promised us a shipment of alcohol two days ago, but it never came and they've been ducking our calls. And we're running low on stock." Candace answered as she explained to Denny and John on how one of their distributors that she and Simmons did business with had been withholding their alcohol supplies and that the club was running low on the refreshments they served to their customers.

"And I'm guessing you'd like us to swipe a couple of bottles from the mall?" Denny asked with a sly grin on his face as he immediately understood what his girlfriend was getting at.

"Hmm, I love it when you read my mind Denny. Although, I can't pay you, John and the others..." Candace replied with a similar smile while regretfully informing her boyfriend that she had no money to compensate them for stealing the alcohol from the strip mall.

"Don't worry about it Candace. We'll do it for free." The brunette answered as he assured Candace that she wouldn't need to pay him and the team for swiping the alcohol with John nodding in agreement.

"Thanks Den. You're the best." The brown haired bartender stated with a soft grin, as she deeply appreciated her boyfriend and his crew swiping the bottles of alcohol the club needed to stay in business.

"No problem, babe." Denny replied as he and Candace were about to lean in for another passionate kiss, but were interrupted as the DJ spoke through his handheld PA microphone.

"Hey, yo yo! Is everybody have a good time?" The DJ, whom was known by the people of Rockay City as DJ Price asked as soon as Burnin' In The 3rd Degree was over.

"Yeah!" The crowd cried out, showing that they were indeed having a wonderful time.

"I can't hear you!" He playfully cried out with a huge grin on his face, claiming that he 'didn't' hear their answer.

"YEAH!" The crowd shouted out again with equally bright grins on their faces.

"A'right, if you folks enjoyed that song then you're gonna love this one, which is from another popular movie!" DJ Price exclaimed as he played the next song on his playlist with the PA speakers playing light techno music and the crowd dancing to the slow steady beat of the song, which they identified as the song Keep it Up by MAKAO from the 2014 action/thriller film The November Man.

As the song started to play, Denny and Candace shared a soft smile before she went back to work and her co-worker handed him and John their drinks, which they gladly accepted. As soon as the bartender handed them their glasses and turned around to tend to another customer, Denny and John took a small sip of their drinks before glancing back to the dance floor and witnessed the other patrons, along with Caitlyn and Nikki moving to the rhythm of the music.

Hey, why'd you stop?

Play the game to the beat on!

If you don't want to

Let me know to

Drop and keep it up!

Hey, why'd you stop?

Play the game to the beat on!

If you don't want to

Let me know to

Drop and keep it up!

As the DJ continued to play the upbeat techno music blaring through his PA speakers, Michael couldn't help but grin and chuckle softly as Sam couldn't help but nod his head as they listened to the song while hanging in the background. Meanwhile, as Kate, Nicole and the other patrons danced to the hot techno music...the redhead and Latina couldn't help but smile gently at each other and glanced at the other's soft tender lips as they danced. After five minutes passed, Sam and Michael eventually joined Denny and John at the bar: where the reddish blonde ordered a shot of Bourbon and the African American ordered a White Russian and watched in amusement as Nicole and Caitlyn continued to dance on the dance floor.

~Meanwhile at the Goth Corp Warehouse~

Shortly after they had unknowingly drove past Denny and his crew, whom were riding in the Chevy cargo van, the three Rockay City Police issued Impala sedans drove past the front gate and parked right outside the warehouse. Once the police officers had stepped out of their vehicles, they entered the warehouse and after they found the security guards and warehouse workers restrained in the locked up control room, they called for paramedics and requested their crime lab to send a forensics team to search for evidence. As they secured the crime scene, two of the patrol officers, a man and a woman spotted a 2009 blood red Honda Accord sedan arriving and a Caucasian man in his mid 40's with golden brown hair in a short mullet style and teal green eyes wearing a tan brown jacket over a red buttoned shirt and Stonewash blue jeans stepping out.

"Detective, you're right on time." One of the patrolmen stated professionally as he waved to the man, whom was a well respected detective in the RCPD's Gang Unit.

"What do we got?" The detective asked as he crossed the crime scene tape and approached the two patrol officers whom, no doubtingly waited for his arrival.

"We've got a straight up robbery. According to the witnesses, a six man crew broke into the warehouse and made off with the shipment of platinum that was scheduled to be delivered to Rockay City First National tomorrow afternoon." The 1st patrol officer answered professionally as he consulted his notepad for the statements he took from one of the guards or warehouse workers: revealing to the detective how a six 'man' crew of robbers raided the warehouse and stole the shipment of platinum that was meant to be delivered to Rockay City First National Bank.

"How much did they take?" The detective asked as he entered the warehouse with the two patrol officers following right behind him.

"...Well, the guards and warehouse employees didn't actually see it, but according to the manifest...the robbers made off with 36 bars of platinum." The female officer answered as she informed the detective that one of their colleagues had checked the warehouse manifest and how the crew of robbers had stole a total of 36 platinum bars!

"36? This crew just made off with 34 fuckin million dollars worth of platinum." The detective asked, as he was deeply surprised at how much of the platinum Conroy and his crew stole and stated on the 36 bars they lifted were worth 34 million dollars!

"34 mil?! Holy shit, practically anyone in this city could retire with that amount of money!" The male patrol officer exclaimed while whistling after hearing how much the platinum that Denny and his team stole was worth!

"But how did they even get inside and why weren't there any alarms?" The female patrol officer asked, as she was deeply curious to how Conroy and his crew even managed to steal $34 million dollars worth of platinum without being noticed by the guards or ware house workers, whom would've no doubtingly seen them.

"I can answer that, Novak." A male crime scene investigator, whom was a Vietnamese-American in his mid to late 30's answered as he casually walked up to the detective and two patrol officers.

"What did you find, Tran?" The detective, Dean Novak asked as he already knew the name of the CSI: Raymond Tran.

"My team and I found six separate shoe impressions in the soil behind those crates/pipes and a single .45 ACP shell casing by the wall near the front entrance." CSI Tran answered as he informed the detective that he and his forensics team found shoe prints by the industrial pipes/crates that Denny and his team were hiding behind for cover and a single .45 ACP casing that belonged to Conroy's Colt Commander.

"Well, that explains how the robbers snuck inside: they took out the camera and if I had to guess, they probably used suppressors to muffle the gunshots." Det. Novak stated as he noted the wrecked state the security camera covering the front door was in and fairly guessed on why the guards or warehouse employees didn't hear the gunshot when Conroy shot at the camera to disable it.

"Well, you're not wrong there Detective...as the guards and warehouse workers stated that only of the robbers was armed with a handgun outfitted with a silencer. And another warehouse worker did give a statement on how he caught a glimpse of one of the robbers...before he felt someone knocking him unconscious with a blunt object." The male patrol officer replied as he informed Novak that his intuition was on the money: as the security guards and warehouse employees stated on how only Conroy was carrying a handgun equipped with a silencer and stated on how one of the workers caught a glimpse of Denny sneaking his way towards the control room...before John swiftly rendered him unconscious.

"And let me guess...he deactivated the rest of the cameras from the control room?" Novak asked with deep sarcastic tone in his voice, as he already suspected on how the rest of Conroy's team were able to sneak inside the warehouse without alarming the guards inside.

"Yep...you guessed right." The female officer answered as she informed Novak on how his hunch was correct: how Conroy snuck inside the control room, restrained the guard stationed inside and deactivated the remaining cameras and alarm from the main security station.

"Alright...Tran, have your team bag and tag everything they can find and send it to the lab. Maybe this crew left something we can use to identify them." Det. Novak stated as he instructed Tran and his team to thoroughly search the warehouse for any traces of evidence that Denny and his team may've left behind.

"On it." The Vietnamese-American CSI stated with a soft nod before walking away to do as the detective ordered.

"Nelson, you and Wills come with me. We're heading back to the precinct. The Captain wants everyone present for the debriefing tomorrow afternoon." Novak added while turning to the two patrol officers, stating how their precinct's captain wanted them to return to their house for an important debriefing.

"Alright." The male officer, Nelson replied as he and his partner, Ofc. Wills followed Novak back to their cars and drove off while the rest of the cops and crime scene techs worked the scene.
