The Slave girl and the King
Chapter 4
They had made their way to the room that was filled with pods of Saiyan babies.
Ann stared in awe. "wow there are so many babies!"
King Vegeta led her through all the babies and up to the spot where his son's pod was, on a platform higher than the others.
She let go of his arm and went up to the pod and peered inside. "Oh wow… he's so cute! He looks just like you too. He'll grow up to be handsome like you."
The king smiled. The nearby doctors were shocked that the King brought Ann there to see the babies but they continued their work.
"I think he's supposed to come out of his pod today, would you like to hold him?" The king was now standing next to Ann looking down at her and smiling.
Ann was shocked. "Really!?" She looked at the baby, then back at King Vegeta. "I've read about the babies here and what they're capable of, while they are cute, they are very terrifying." She laughed at the thought. "Are you sure he won't hurt me? I don't have any abilities like you do… I am only human and I'm fragile."
He only smiled and laughed. "Oh I'm sure he will love you. I know I like you, besides I would never let him hurt you. It will be alright I assure you."
She put her hand to the class of the pod and looked sad. "You know I'm unable to have children, but I have watched children in the past… I do love babies." She then smiled up at him.
King Vegeta walked over to the doctors. "How long until Prince Vegeta comes out of the pod?"
"He is about to be removed in a few moments your majesty." One of the doctors said as he typed something on the machine.
Ann smiled at the king when he turned to her. "You named him Vegeta? After you? That's perfect!"
He smiled at her but didn't know what to say. The doctors were just draining the fluid in the pod and they unhooked Prince Vegeta from the machine. He was wet and just waking up. He immediately started crying. They began to dry him off but he continued to cry. His father picked him up and held him but his crying did not stop.
"Here maybe if you hold him." King Vegeta walked over to Ann and handed him to her.
She took him hesitantly and wrapped her arms around his back holding him like a mother would and started to rock him. She soothed him with soft shushing sounds. He opened his tear filled eyes and looked up at Ann. Ann Smiled at him as his crying subsided. He then smiled and reached his little hands up to her face. Ann took his little hand in hers and kissed it and he wrapped his little tail around her wrist as he gave out a little giggle.
Ann had tears in her eyes. "Hello, your highness… welcome to the world. You are so handsome just like your daddy." She smiled at him.
He smiled back at her and she nuzzled his cheek, smelling his scent and just as she expected, he had that wonderful baby smell that she loved so much.
"See I told you he would love you." King Vegeta said with a smile and gave a little laugh.
The king only smiled and watched as Ann snuggled his son and cooed over him and Prince Vegeta loved every second of it. They stood there for a long while as Ann rocked him to sleep and sang him a little lullaby which instantly put him to sleep.
Ann Whispered. "He's sound asleep now… I think we need to put him to bed."
The doctor then showed Ann where to lay him down in his little crib that looked round, like a pod without a dome but cushioned. He continued to sleep. She very gently unwrapped his little tail from her wrist.
Ann stood up smiling. "He's so precious. I just love babies." Ann then yawned.
"I am sure you must be very tired by now. Allow me to escort you back to your room." King Vegeta said.
"What about you, your Majesty? Will you get some rest?" Ann asked yawning again. "excuse me for yawning so much."
"It's quite alright. I'll probably be up and will take a nap later today. I have a lot to do."
He then held out his arm and escorted her to her room. "Thank you for the lovely tour your Majesty." and she gave him a bow.
"You are most welcome my lady." He then kissed her hand. "Sleep well."
He then turned and left. Ann went into her room and collapsed on her bed, exhausted. She immediately fell asleep. When she awoke, it was evening and the sun was just beginning to set. The sky was a beautiful orange color. She didn't realize she was so tired and had slept so long. She immediately got out of bed. She still had her robe on and she stepped out the door and went next door and knocked on Yamma and Diako's door. She wondered if they would be mad at her or if they knew she snuck out.
Yamma answered the door and she saw them both and they did not look too happy. "You're both upset with me aren't you?"
Diako and Yamma let out a sigh.
Diako spoke first. "Ann you really should have awoken us. What if something happened?"
"Exactly what Diako said." Yamma says with his arms crossed.
"I'm sorry guys… You know I love you both… I had nightmares again… you know the bad ones." Ann paused.
Both Diako and Yamma's expression changed to worried looking.
Ann continued. "I have so much to do on this article and since I couldn't sleep I went to the library to do some research… Then King Vegeta showed up."
Yamma and Diako both let out a sigh.
Yamma nodded. "We know…. I came to check on you and when you weren't in your room, we both went looking for you. We saw you in the library with the king."
Ann only looked at him not knowing what to say to that.
Diako added. "We didn't come in the library because you needed the privacy but we did stay outside the door."
Yamma immediately added. "We didn't eavesdrop too much I promise but… I did overhear one thing… that story you told him about your past." He seemed embarrassed.
"So you followed. That's good."She nodded, thinking. "You heard the story of how I came to Lord Frieza?" Ann was biting her lip and put her hand to her mouth, biting a nail. She did that when she was upset or nervous.
Yamma and Diako nodded.
When Ann didn't answer Yamma spoke and rubbed the back of his head. "I had no idea Ann, I'm sorry."
Ann shook her head. "No I'm sorry… I should have woke you both. I just wanted you both to get some rest in case something were to happen."
"It's ok just please let us know first. We were really worried." Yamma said and winked at her.
Diako gave a laugh. "I think the term really worried is an understatement."
They both laughed.
"I'm really sorry guys and to make matters worse I slept all day." Ann said with a tone of worry.
"We saw the notes you took in the library. They're really good. You deserved some sleep, yesterday was a long day." Yamma Stated.
"You'll do great as you always do Ann, but you need your sleep too." Diako added.
"Thanks guys. Looks like I'll be up all night." Ann nodded. "I'm going to put something else on to wear. I don't know what, since I didn't bring a lot."
Yamma then remembered something. "Oh yeah that reminds me. Some things were brought up for you today. We kept them in here so we could let you sleep."
Diako and Yamma returned with packages tied with a bow. "They arrived this afternoon."
Ann led the way back to her room and they stacked them up on the table in her room. "Who are they from?"
Diako smiled. "Take a guess."
Ann looked at Diako, then at Yamma who was also smiling.
Ann was confused at first then decided to take a wild guess, though it didn't seem possible at all.
"King Vegeta?" Ann asked with uncertainty in her voice.
They both smiled and nodded.
Yamma was almost as excited as she was and pleased from the looks of it. "One of the boxes came open by accident and I only saw a glimpse of a garment and I think you will like them."
Ann gave a smile even though she couldn't believe that she had received such gifts. "Well let's open them, shall we? I want you both to see them too!"
Ann had received gifts before but not usually this many and they were usually small. They went to Ann's room and helped her open the boxes. They were filled with beautiful clothes and shoes and other things such as jewelry. Then as she had just opened the last box that contained a pretty dress, a thought occurred to Ann. How would her masters take this? How would they feel about her receiving such gifts. She had seen how much he disliked the Saiyans, but not so much that he didn't send her here.
Ann paused, staring at nothing in particular. "Yamma, Diako?"
They had been examining the jewelry and they stopped and looked up at her and and they both said "hm?"
They could tell something was wrong.
"How do you think Master Frieza would feel about these gifts?" Ann asked and picked up one of the dresses that was a sky blue color.
Yamma and Diako hadn't thought of that.
Diako spoke fist. "Well it's not like you haven't received gifts from others before. I mean you've gotten them other times that you've visited other planets."
Yamma nodded. "That's right. Plus Lord Frieza did say to do what it took to get a good story and to get on his good side." He picked up a particularly piece of jewelry that had light blue stones and diamonds on it with matching earrings. "I would definitely say that you have done just that. So I am sure it would be alright."
Diako was nodding and thinking. "Don't forget, Ann, King Cold personally called you and seemed concerned on how you were being treated and asking if you were sleeping in a barn."
Diako and Yamma looked at each other in some silent agreement. Ann noticed. She had the feeling there was something that they weren't telling her.
"Is there something you would like to tell me?" She looked at them both with a pleading look on her face.
Diako sighed heavily. "You may as well tell her. If she doesn't hear it from you, eventually she'll hear it from someone else."
Yamma sighed in defeat. "We didn't want to tell you because we all know how you are. You get upset and you get these panic attacks. Even Lord Frieza told us not to tell you but did say that if you asked, not to upset you more. So… I guess we can tell you."
He paused looking at Ann but she didn't say anything.
Yamma looked at Diako and he nodded. Yamma sighed again. He wasn't sure what her reaction would be but she was his best friend, she deserved to know. "King Cold was pissed about the whole incident with the barn. So was Lord Frieza. Remember when he saw the rashes you had and the bite marks you had all over you? He got mad and you thought he was mad at you?"
He waited for an answer, but Ann could only nod. She remembered that so well. She was so upset that he had gotten angry, she had never seen him get mad at her her or at least, she thought he was mad at her. He made her go to the infirmary and wouldn't talk to her or see her for a while. She was so upset that she cried a lot.
Yamma tilted his head to the side looking at her sadly. "He was never mad at you Ann. He was mad that you had been treated so horribly. Lord Frieza and King Cold had left the main ship and paid them a visit… and they all paid for how they treated you. I'm sorry Ann, for not telling you sooner. I know how you feel about people being hurt and he didn't want you upset about it and think it's all your fault."
Ann stared at him and didn't know what to say. She was thinking back to all that had happened and it made sense in a way. She had always suspected after her Masters had seen her again and acted as if they were pleased and as though she had done nothing.
She finally looked down at the dress she was holding. "I guess I had always suspected something had happened but I tried not to think about it, also thinking it wasn't possible… I see I was wrong about that." She sighed and looked at the dress and held it up. It was so pretty. She shook her head in thought. "I honestly don't know why they are so fond of me." She had a sad look. "There's nothing special about me, not like you and Diako or the Ginyu Force that he prizes so much or any of his soldiers for that matter. That day I met them for the first time, was like a dream, still so surreal to me and I was sure I was dreaming all of it. Something just clicked between us. Between the awe I felt and everything else I was so confused." She started putting the dress away. "Ever since then, they have done nothing but shown me kindness. Taught me to read and write and even taught me some of his own language." She smiled at the thought. "It was cute actually, Master Frieza would lose his patience so many times but he never gave up… often he would get mad, walk out of the room, leaving me sitting there all confused, not knowing what to do. Then he would return and we would continue. If he was too busy then King Cold taught me or sometimes a tutor would."
She smiled at the memory. Yamma and Diako watched her silently. Yamma had wanted to ask her something about her past for a long time but never did, because he knew her past was painful.
