Another Interlude chapter. This time it focuses on Lady Tengu and her backstory. Also I don't own Soul Eater.

Interlude 3: Lady Tengu

A swirling black and red vortex appeared in the midst of a darkened littered room. Lady Tengu stepped out of the portal, the medallion of rage still clutched tightly in her hand. She had just narrowly escaped from the clutches of Death the Kid. As the portal swallowed itself up she took in her familiar surroundings. The interior of the room was full with old spell books and loose papers. Trinkets and ritual objects adorned every inch of the walls. She looked out the window at the verdant green jungles of the deep African wilderness. This was one of her seldom used hideouts, but it was also the least likely location for anyone to find her.

She glanced down at her chest as the Medallion of Rage glinted in the sunlight. She smiled wickedly as she admired the flame adorning its surface. She clutched it tightly to her chest and laughed maniacally. Finally, the plan was coming to fruition. It was almost too easy. All they needed now was the rest of the Medallions and they could upend this wretched world.

She glanced over to a shelf adorning the wall. At it's center sat a lone picture frame, surrounded by candles and sticks of incense. She approached the wooden shelf and with a snap of her fingers the candles and incense alighted with flame. She had one of these shrines in every one of her hideouts. She grasped the picture frame in both hands and held it close to her face. The image showed a young witch, with large innocent yellow eyes. She wore a brown and white cowl over a buttoned up plain tan dress shirt. Her hair was worn in a bowl cut with side bangs that framed a picturesque face. She smiled at the camera and held a bundle of spell books under one arm. A forest of gray oaks stood behind her. Raven stroked the image of the woman with her fingers gently.

"My dear, sweet Owletta." She whispered gently. "I'm one step closer to enacting my revenge my dear sister. Just wait a little longer." She kissed the frame and set it gently back down on it's place in the middle of the shrine. She clenched her fist as she remembered the thought of her dearly departed sister. Owletta was an innocent witch, she stayed far away from humans and others, content to focus on her own magic. But the DWMA still saw fit to kill her in cold blood 300 years ago. She was defenseless. Lady Tengu's breathing grew heavy and rapid as the centuries long anger she held bubbled to the surface.

"Aaaaahhhh!" She yelled, swiping debris off of the work surface of her table. Books and devices clattered to the ground. But her outburst was not enough to sate her anger. She ran along the walls of her enclave, gouging clawmarks in the stone walls. Her eyes glowed a brilliant vermillion with unmet rage. She screamed as she tore apart her domicile. Unruly tendrils of crimson magic lashed out around her, shattering glass and setting stray papers alight. She would make the DWMA pay for their crimes against witch kind. They had gone too long without consequences. And now all of her traitorous witch sisters were ensnared by the new Shinigami's promise of peace? Raven knew better. It was only a matter of time before the DWMA would turn on them again. She wouldn't allow it. She would rain down righteous fury on Shibusen and destroy every last one of them.

"I WILL HAVE MY VENGEANCE!" She screamed as she threw a model globe against the stone wall. It shattered into hundreds of pieces. Exhausted, Lady Tengu stood hunched over, she breathed heavily with the exertion. As she regained her composure she straightened up and patted the sides of her dress down. She clutched the Medallion hanging from her chest and looked down on it. Even now she could feel it's influence roiling just out of reach. She smirked slightly and opened another portal, this time to Pantheon's home base. It was time to report in.

Without a second thought, Lady Tengu stepped through the swirling portal. In her wake she left a destroyed residence. The already messy hideout was left in total disarray from her passing. The only exception was the shrine with Owletta's photo. It was left untouched with candles still burning bright.

This interlude is a little shorter than the others. But I didn't want to reveal too much. Hopefully this gives some better context behind Lady Tengu. I thought about giving her sister the name Nocturnia but I figured it wouldn't be as clear that her witch theme was an Owl.
